Apple TV - Onkyo Receiver - HD TV = FAIL
Is this particular setup supposed to work? We just moved into our new home (brand new construction) and we got hardwired surround sound with an Onkyo receiver and since all signals these days are digital everything runs through the Onkyo. The cable box and the DVD player plug directly into the Onkyo and only a single HDMI cable runs into the TV. No other cables plug into the TV.
The Apple TV doesn't even show up but when we plug it directly into the HDMI port on our bedroom TV it works just fine.
Anyone else successfully set this up in their house?

I had strange flickering image with my ATV 3 connected to a Sharp LCD via an HDMI switch box - same idea as the switch in a receiver...
The solution for me was to go into the ATV settings and change the resolution from "Auto" to 1080p 60 Hz.
Seems that there was some challenge handshaking with the TV to determine what resolutions it really accepted; forcing the ATV to output a specific resolution did the trick.
(Connecting the ATV 3 directly into an HDMI port on the Sharp TV worked fine in Auto ... but I need the HDMI switch as the older rmodel TV doesn't have enough HDMI inputs.)

Can't see ipod videos from 60GB ipod classic. I have Apple USB/video cable running through Onkyo receiver into Samsung TV. Video & TV out settings seem correct-I can see album cover, but no video. Is it possible to get itunes music videos to play or do I need to get new ipod. It works on my iPad and iPhone, but not through iPod Classic.
Are these music videos located under Videos on your iPod? Do it play other regular movies (if you have any on the device)?

Apple TV attached to an Onkyo receiver
I have my Apple TV attached to an Onkyo receiver and my Samsung tv is attached as well. The Samsung has a dvi port and I use a dvi hdmi adapter. My problem is I have audio from the Apple TV but no video feed. Any ideas what might be the problem?

that would likely be your problem try connecting the Apple TV by optical to the receiver and with hdmi to the tv
if the tv does not have a hdmi port then you likely need a new tv -
Playing Apple TV through my Onkyo receiver requires the TV to be powered on, can this be avoided?

My wild guess is they were trying to close some kind of security (DRM) hole and ended up making the AppleTV less useful for streaming music than an AirPort Express. Sigh.

Optical Audio Is Not Working with Onkyo Receiver TX-SR501

I can't seem to make the optical audio from Apple TV work with my Onkyo Receiver TX-SR501. The Onkyo has 2 optical audio lines in in the back. When I hit the "digital input" button on the front of receiver, I can select from OPT1, OPT2, or COAX. I currently have the optical audio line going into OPT2, but if I select OPT2, I hear no sound. Any suggestions?

HollyI have the exact same receiver (Onkyo TX SR-501) and tgibbs is correct...you must (during a setup process) link each function (DVD, Video 1, Video 2, Video 3, CD, etc.) with its audio source. The Optical cable doesn't connect to a "function" in the back, it connects to an "input". The receiver gives you the freedom to use different inputs with different functions. It's your job, durng the "setup" to map each of these inputs to each function...that way the receiver knows where to go looking for the audio that you are feeding into it for each function you choose. The owners manual has a pretty clear setup process outlined in it.
Not clear to me that you understood this, so forgive me if I am explaining what is already clear to you. -

I have an Onkyo TX-SR313 and have the HDMI from the Apple TV going to one of the HDMi ports on the receiver and the HDMI out from the receiver to the TV and it all works OK. In addition I have a DVD player and a ROKU stick connected to two other HDMI ports on the receiver and they all work as expected.

There could be a couple causes for this and I will include a couple solutions. Sometimes the account credentials need to be authenticated and can cause this message. Try forcing all applications to close and power cycle the device. Two step verification may be enabled causing this error, try checking if this feature is enabled, disable and test. The last solutions I could recommend would be in the second article and third article below.

Why do not Apple send a fix for all fail´s / slow mac`s afther upgrade to Yosemite
I have upgrade 2 of my Macbook air 11" models. Both have major slow functionality in allmost every programs. slow mail, safari, pages. Allmost nothing of the funksjonalitys can being uses in numbers. Slow functionality when jumping between programs. Allover i have BIG problems with mac for my first time. And why do not Apple send a fix for all fails there is after upgrading to Yosemite. When thousand of users have the same problem with major slow mac`s.

Apple maps has received a poor performance rating just after introduction of the iPhone 5. I am running Google Maps app on the phone. SIRI cannot seem to get me to a specific address. Where does the problem lie? Also can anyone tell me the hierarchy of use between the Apple Maps, SIRI, and Google maps when the app is on the phone? How do you choose one over the other as the default map usage? Or better still how do you suppress SIRI from using the Apple maps app when requesting a "go to"?
I have placed an address location into the CONTACTS list and when I ask SIRI to "take me there" it found a TOTALLY different location in the metro area with the same street name. I have included the address, the quadrant, (NE) and the ZIP code into the CONTACTS list. As it turns out, no amount of canceling the trip or relocating the address in the CONTACTS list line would prevent SIRI from taking me to this bogus location. FINALLY I typed in Northeast for NE in the CONTACTS list (NE being the accepted method of defining the USPS location quadrant) , canceled the current map route and it finally found the correct address. This problem would normally not demand such a response from me to have it fixed but the address is one of a hospital in the center of town and this hospital HAS a branch location in a similar part of town (NOT the original address SIRI was trying to take me to). This screw up could be dangerous if not catastrophic to someone who was looking for a hospital location fast and did not know of these two similar locations. After all the whole POINT of directions is not just whimsical pasttime or convenience. In a pinch people need to rely on this function. OR, are my expectations set too high?
How does the iPhone select between one app or the other (Apple Maps or Gppgle Maps) as it relates to SIRI finding and showing a map route?
Why does SIRI return an address that is NOT the correct address nor is the returned location in the requested ZIP code?
Is there a known bug in the CONTACTS list that demands the USPS quadrant ID be spelled out, as opposed to abreviated, to permit SIRI to do its routing?

how can i get mountain lion reinstalled if my mac says apple id never purchased? hd failed 2 wks after wty expired, I am the original owner, put another hd in, done command-r & sys reinstalled, but it wanted to update & now am stuck. I don't mind paying for mountain lion; it is too far to get to an apple store. but, i only have one mac, so i cannot download with another mac. lots of other apple, but only one mac.
You will need to do a network recovery:
Install Lion/Mountain Lion on a New HDD/SDD
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
2. After DU loads select your external hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless. -

Welcome to the Apple Community.
Your Apple TV may have become paired with another remote. Hold the remote close to and pointed at the Apple TV, hold down the menu and Rewind buttons together for 6 seconds or until you see a broken chain icon on screen.
