Apple tv optical convert to rca

I have amplifier that only has RCA input . Any suggestion on how to use my Apple TV optical output to connect to amplifier? I have seen several product that can do optical  to  RCA conversion but also read that some converter may not work properly due to PCM LPCM output compatibility.
Thanks

Will it work?
Yes, this device will convert the signal. I use a more expensive unit (Musical Fidelity V-DAC) that does the same thing.
Will I be able to control volume via apple tv remote/iPad ?
No. The ATV2 has no volume control. Also, when streaming audio from iTunes on my Mac Pro, the volume setting in iTunes on that machine has no effect, either. To control the volume, either use the controls on your speakers (if they have a volume control) or look for a converter that does have a volume control.
My ATV2 feeds into my stereo system's amplifier, and I use the volume control on that.
Will the sound quality be good enough for the Beolab 1s.
Hopefully someone who is acquainted with the Beolabs can answer this. My V-DAC has gotten very good reviews in audiophile publications, but it costs probably about 5x the Lindy, and I don't know how much difference there really is between them. I have a fairly decent 2-channel audio system, so I figured I'd better get a DAC that has some claim to quality.

I got a Orei da21 optical converter. Anyone have this one? I didn't try it yet

Where did you get the idea it was a 7/8"? Can you give us the model number or a website with a picture of your product? The soundbars we sell in the store both have optical ports on them.

Hey, i have the old style back box TV & i was wondering is there anyway to connect my 1st gen apple tv to it using RCA? as cheap as pos

Officially no, unless it (the TV) had component inputs.
There was a 'workaround' for getting composite video out of one of the component sockets.  Try to Google it.

  • Apple certified cable for AV RCA out and USB sync with BMW car's COMBOX

My recently purchased Apple certified cable for AV RCA out and USB sync works very well with the PC and TV. I bought it to connect to my BMW car's COMBOX interface which is designed to connect to Apple products.
It doesn't even power up and BMW fails to recognize iPod, same combox works well with the original usb sync cable which came with the iPod but that doesn't have AV out so can't play music and video to the head unit. I think this could be due to low power coming from the car's USB, am I right to think this? If yes what options have I got to fix this? Can I supply additional power to iPod?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
I'm afraid that's to be expected in most cases, you need to turn your TV speakers off.

  • Apple external optical drive not working on macbookpro

I removed my optical drive from my 2011 2.3, macbookpro 13" and added a 2nd hard drive. I have an apple external optical drive(cd/dvd) which I hooked up

  • HT4108 Apple digital av converter suddenly not working...

Used my Apple digital av converter the other day with no issue...now the status bar glows blue when it is connected but get no signal to the TV.  Ipad2 with iOS 6.1.3 and adapter is AV 1388.  Nothing has changed, why won't it work?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPad and adopter for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Optical digital to RCA converter.

    Hello, everyone.
I have noticed the Apple TV comes with an optical digital audio port.
I would like to connect the Apple TV to wireless headphones I have. They come with a trasmitting base that only has two types of connectors on the back. They are (1) the more traditional Red/White RCA connectors and (2) the 3.5 mini-jack (I think the size is 3.5 mm).
Is there any converter cable and/or box that would allow me to connect the optical digital audio port to one of the two connectors above ?
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Thanks, Alley-Cat.
I followed your advice and found the right converter from Monoprice. I've already ordered it and it is on its way.

  • Audio Problem with new Apple TV: Audio Optical (Toslink) to RCA

    Hi guys,
I just set up my new Apple TV but don't have any audio so far (picture works).
It's probably because I connected the HDMI to DVI, as my Sony TV only has DVI.
Now I am thinking about getting audio by connecting the optical audio of the Apple TV to my stereo receiver to solve this issue.
Problem: my Sony STR-D315 receiver only has RCA connectors ( looking like this: http://media.photobucket.com/image/receiver%20rca/xyphon112/IMG_1701.jpg not sure if this is digital or analog)
Now I figured out that there would be converters:
    http://www.canadacomputers.com/advancedsearchresult.php?keywords=toslink+converter&sid=moqhnqo7m5eup531h3dp3l62g4
Do you think this could solve my problem? I am little confused atm, but would I need the "toslink to digital coaxial(RCA)" or the "digital coaxial (RCA) to toslink" product?
My shopping list atm would basically be:
    - the converter
    - optical cable ( http://store.apple.com/us/product/TR841LL/A )
    - this RCA cable ( http://www.daydeal.com/files/images3/blkrcacable.jpg )
Do you think this might work?
My goal is only to get sound, doesn't need to be super quality
Feedback from a cable expert would be very much appreciated.
Thank you very much in advance!!!
    Martin

Jim, thank you so much for your answer.
That's what I was worrying about, I also think that the audio inputs of my Sony STR-D315 receiver are only analog. My Sony TV has audio input but unfortuntately it's not optical
A "TOSLINK to analog RCA converter" really sounds like the only solution. Would this be an appropriate one?
    http://www.canadacomputers.com/productinfo.php?cPath=5_72_73&itemid=032471
I really like the new Apple TV but want to avoid buying a new receiver (or even TV). So thanks a lot for your help.
Have a good evening & all the best,
    Martin

  • Optical out and RCA audio out -- do they both work simultaneously?

On teh Apple TV, does audio get output over the digital optical output and the RCA audio jacks simulatenously?

Optical and HDMI sound works simultaneously as well. You can use an optical to SPDIF converter to convert it to coax, then send across the house via cheap RG6 satellite cable and convert it back if necessary to optical if you want your surround amplifier in an equipment closet somewhere or away from your wall mounted TV.
When you don't want surround sound, you can simply turn the TV speaker volume back up. I haven't tried the RCA jacks, but it appears that all audio outputs are active simultaneously.
When you activate volume control, the apple remote will modify the volume level of the optical output as well.

my tv is a widescreen HDTV. it has a DVI-D port and RCA red and white audio inputs. i can purchase a HDMI to DVI-D cable. the only issue that i have to sort out is the audio. so, what converter do i need to convert from digital audio to analog?

  • My apple TV optical connection is not working with optical to analog adapter after the update to 6.0.

When i bought the apple tv, i could listen to my iPhone's music on my home's audio system, which was connected to the apple tv through a digital to analog audio converter. It was working until the apple tv upgrade to 6.0. I tried connecting the apple tv directly to another amplifier with optical input and it worked fine, i tried the converter on the play station and it worked as well. I switched the DD on the apple tv settings from Auto to on and the problem remains. Any ideas?
