Apple TV or airport express?

Hello everyone!
My wife and I are getting ready to purchase our first iMac, and we would like to buy the Apple TV as well to go with it.
I currently have an Iphone, and would like to control my itunes library with it. I do have a question about the Apple TV though. Can the Apple TV sync my entire music library (so I can play music if the computer is turned off) and stream my itunes library at the same time?
EX: When the computer is turned on I would like to simply be able to play certain songs off the computer using the Iphone remote app, and have the Apple TV downstairs play that same song at the same time along with it. Will that work that way by default even if we have synched all of our itunes content?
Thank you for your help, I am excited about joining the Apple family!

I forgot to add the second part to my question. If the Apple TV does not sync and stream content, would the airport express be a good option to go with? (I would use it along with the apple tv)
If I have read correctly I could buy an airport express, hook it up to my receiver, and it will play whatever my itunes library is currently playing upstairs at the same time, right?
Then, if my wife is upstairs on the computer and wants to listen to something different than me downstairs, I could simply switch to the Apple TV and be good to go. Seems like a very inexpensive way to have "whole house audio" if you ask me! Just add an airport express to each area of the house where you would like your music to play. Can you tell I am excited?

  • Apple TV doesn't show up in iTunes when AirPort Express is running at the same time - Can't play music on both Apple TV and AirPort Express speakers together

    Hi there!
I am trying to play music from my Mac on multiple speakers, Apple TV and AirPort Express. But as soon as the AirPort Express station is plugged in, the Apple TV does not show up in iTunes anymore. When trying the same using iPhones Remote app it works perfectly.
Does anyone of you have an idea why iTunes does not show me both Apple TV AND AirPort Express? (it has nothing to to with the IP adress as the adresses are different).
    Thanks for any help!

As my english isn't too good I made a screenshot to show you what I mean.
As you can see in the image below iTunes only shows me the computer speakers and the AirPort Express. But at the bottom you can see that iTunes actually recognized 3 different speaker (Mac, AirPort, Apple TV 2). Why does the Apple TV not show up in the multiple speakers window? Any ideas?

  • Hi there, I'm thinking of buying both a new MacBook Pro and a small 22 inch LED tv for my kitchen... what would I need to be able to use (wireless of course) the tv as a monitor for the new computer? Apple tv? Airport Express? something else? Thanks.

    Hi a,
    http://www.mctiviausa.com/
There has been "talk" on and off of Apple TV doing it (and people have done it with a hack), but I haven't really followed it.
It would be a whole lot cheaper getting an adapter (as needed) and cable and simply pluggin it in when you're in the kitchen.

  • I just purchased Apple TV AND AIRPORT EXPRESS. I am questioning if  I need it when I already have a Netgear Powerline AV 200 Adapter Kit XAVB2001. Does the Airport Express do the same thing?

Thank you so much.  Any specifics I should know about prior to connecting? The goal is to watch  Netflix from my iPad or iPhone 5 on my tv (located in different room from where Comcast internet modem is hard wired to main computer in house).  Movies would depend on wireless transmission to a smart tv not connected to modem.

  • Can you share iTunes music w/Apple TV and Airport Express?

Can you share iTunes music between Apple TV and Airport Express?
I have been very happily using 2 Airport expresses to share my itunes library from my iMac to 2 other rooms. I just bought an Apple TV for the bedroom (and I ASSUMED to replace the Airport Express), and can not figure out any possible way to have the same music in 3 rooms any more.
    Anybody have any ideas?

I think you may have misunderstood the OP, I believe they wish to be able to walk from room to room and listen to the same music over the tv and the express. itunes will send music to the tv and the express at the same time but in two different streams, so even if you chose the same music over each device it would be quite difficult to sync.

  • Why has my audio from Apple TV to Airport Express suddenly stopped working?

    Hi.
For over a year, I have had my Apple TV and Airport Express connected together and the audio worked perfectly fine. All of a sudden the audio playback on movies and Netflix had dropped off considerably. I now have to turn my amp upto 70 to get even the slightest sound. Music plays fine to the AE but not Movie Audio.
Anyone else having the same issue??
I'm confused because it's worked ok for a year!!
    Any help please??

    try restarting all of them

  • Apple tv3 and airport express

I don't know...... a way to send the music from Apple TV3 to an airport express?!
    Thanks for help!

Both Apple TV and Airport Express are pulling the music from iTunes.
Your question is a bit unclear.....are you trying to stream an online station from AppleTV over to Airport express so you can use the analog audio output on airport express?

  • Can I send the radio/music from Apple TV to AirPort Express?

I am considering purchasing an Airport Express to send music from my Apple TV to another stereo in the house. Is this possible or does it only work with iTunes from my iMac?

Sorry, but the Apple TV is not an iTunes server. Media on the second generation Apple TV is streamed from the Internet or from a local iTunes server. In turn, the Apple TV can then send these streams out of either its HMDI or optical digital port ... but not out via wireless to another Apple TV or AirPort Express Base Station.

  • I have set up apple tv and airport express but cannot get apple tv to recognize the airport express wireless. Any solutions?

Airport Express set up a wireless network in my classroom.  Apple TV is working but only recognizes the school network.  I would like a solution other than connecting the two with a cable. That would require hanging cables since I am using apple TV to run a video projector.

    Hi there,
I would recommend taking a look at the troubleshooting articles below and verifying that you have the Apple TV and Airport Express configured properly.

  • Itunes 11 issues with airplay (doesn't recognize APPLE TV or Airport Express

I have Iphone 5, 4 and $s. Ipod, Macbook Pro 13 and 15, Apple TV and Airport Express. They all worked perfect (Itunes 10) until i downloaded Itunes 11. No this system is a full on POS. Can not connect to Apple TV or Airport Express. I run Aiport Utility and it works for awhile. Drove to the Apple Store. Airport is fine. Everything else still connects to the WIFI network.  Seriuosly is Apple trying hard to make stuff work like Micorsoft?  I'm so ****** as I spent an hour on the phone with Apple support and they could not fix it and sent me to the Apple store.  Itunes 11 is the issue.  Operates the same on MB Pro's with Snow Leopard.

Yesterday the mirrowing would not work. Went to Apple Store they were clueless.also had no sound from my ear phones. 4 hours later. I downloaded the latest software 8.0 on  my IPAD 3. MIRACLE THE MIRRORING WORKS AND MY EAR PHONES WORK? NO HELP FROM THE PEOPLE IN THE APPLE STORE

  • How to connect apple tv and airport express on same Hi-Fi?

    Hello everybody,
My question first : Is it possible to output the sounds directly from the Apple TV to my Airport Express (via Airplay, wifi, or whatever connection) and connect with the jack my Airport Express to the stereo? This way I could hear the sound from my tv or listen to my music via airplay the way I want.
Now, the long explanation : I have a Tivoli sound system which only has a Jack as input plug. I also have an Apple TV (2) to watch movies. For my movies, as my stereo doesn't have any optical audio input, I've connected the television directly to the stereo. As I used to listen music from my Iphone on the dock aswell, I installed a double jack adaptor to permit two connections to my stereo (1 for the iPhone dock and 1 for the television).
Now things have changed a bit. I bought an airport express to replace the dock station.
The problem is that I can't use the double jack adaptor anymore. If I want to watch tv I have no sounds from stereo until I unplug the airport express Jack. The reverse works, I can listen to my music when both airport Express and television are connected.
If you have an idea? Let me know.
    Thks.
    Christophe

....... Is it possible to output the sounds directly from the Apple TV to my Airport Express
    Unfortunately not.

  • How can I connect my Apple TV and Airport Express to the rest of the network for the least lag?

    Hey guys,
I have an Airport network here in the office.  All new Airport Extremes.  The internet comes into one, which then connects to our switches, which then connects to other Airport Extremes over ethernet.  Everything is setup to create its own network with the same SSID, and only the leader is the DHCP server.
I recently added an Apple TV to the network, only it was too laggy for video chat.  I bought an Airport Express (for the audio), and ran ethernet to connect it to the network and the Apple TV, but things were still slow.
Now, I set the Airport Express up as a DHCP server (with NAT) itself, with a separate SSID, and it's working great.  The only problem is that people would rather not have to switch wifi networks.  Is there any way around this?  BTW, the AirEx is complaining about Double NAT, which I understand is happening, but it's still working fine... it's really just the having to switch networks that's a problem for us.
    Thanks!

Hi - as you probably know, double NAT is not recommended - you might have problems with some websites and updating - but if it is working that is great - as far as the Wi-Fi issue is concerned, you should still be able to create a wireless network with the same name an password as the rest of your network so no one has to switch.

  • Can I stream music to apple tv and airport express at the same time?

Does anyone know if I can stream music to both AppleTV and Airport Express (speakers) at the same time?
I have a TV in my living room and external speakers on my deck and want to stream music to both at the same time so I have the same music playing in both rooms - but I can't get an answer on IF I can do both at the same time or it I'd have to select one over the other?
    Anyone know?

yes - the built-in music app allows to select one speaker only at the same time.
now i've found the WHAALE Multiroom Player App (http://www.whaale.com) - and it sends directly from the iOS Device to my 6 AirPlay speakers. One of them is an Apple TV...
all "in sync" and without any special hardware and additional software.
And i am able to stream different songs to different rooms...
    Just AirPlay speakers - wifi router - WHAALE -> that's easy :-)

  • HT201335 Can i use airplay with the apple tv and airport express without an internet connection? Basically Set it up as a closed network?

I was told I could set a local network with the airport express, apple Tv, and my iPad to stream videos or pictures to a TV for a presentation.
No internet connection is available at the location.
Is that possible? Or do I need to access itunes homeshare with an internet connection to make this work?
I've set it up at home where I have an internet connection and it works fine but I want to move the setup to my church for a class. The data I'm using is stored on my ipad.
I know I can do this wired with the HDMI adapter but would like to do it wireless.
    Thanks for any help!

Ok so we now have a solution to the problem.   A friend of mine came round to work this out with me last night and we were able to get it working, but it is not as easy as I had hoped.  Fisrtly we plugged the airport express into my router using the ethernet cable  (for this I am using an Airport Express Base Station") and in airport utilities selected the airport express.  In edit, we then gave the airport express a new range of IP address which did not conflict with any of the other applications that I have already assigned.  We also named the Airport Express with a distinguishable name.  We then waited for the changes to be registered then unplugged the Airport Express from the router.  I then plugged my AppleTV via HDMI into a tv to test it and selected the new wifi network with the new Airport Express distinguishable name.  I was able to watch a video that I have on my ipad directly on my tv without being connected to the internet, and was able to play Airplay presentations.
No the easiest solution, and certainly not something that anyone at Apple has talked me through in my lengthy conversations with them at Applecare.
    Hope this helps.

  • How can I stream audio from apple tv to airport express

    Hello,
i have an apple tv and would like to stream audio to my airport-express. Is this possible?
    Thanks,

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
It's not possible from the Apple TV 2 or 3.

  • How to stream from iPad to apple tv via airport express with the airport express being connected to the internet

I have an apple tv, iPad 3 and airport express. Im at school and the apple tv is technically not supported by the network. Ive read that one could use AirPlay to apple tv via AE.
Can someone help me make this work? Step by step process if possible.
    Thanks in advance,

The router does provide WIFI, but the thing is the Apple TV will be out of reach. I want to avoid having two routers / networks. That's why Apple TV is hardwired. The AirPort (also hardwired) should only work as a receiver for the iPhone - streaming iPhone content to the Apple TV.
BOTH the Apple TV and the AirPort Express are AirPlay "speakers." That is, you can stream from iTunes to either device. You don't need both if the Apple TV is hardwired to an existing router. That provided the necessary networking for AirPlay to stream over. Wi-Fi is NOT required for AirPlay if you have a wired connection between the AirPlay "server" (i.e., iTunes host) and the AirPlay "speaker."
The Apple TV would work as a "receiver" for your iPhone.
If AirPlay is an application layer software, how may two AirPlay device communicate directly? Normally all communication is relayed by the access point.
AirPlay is a streaming protocol that runs over TCP/IP. AirPlay "speakers" DO NOT communicate with each other directly. The basic communication path is between an AirPlay "server" and an AirPlay "speaker" or multiple "speakers." Again the path between them can be either be wired or wireless or some combination of each.
