Apple TV or NMT popcorn hour

I am a dedicated apple user and am seeking to organise all my DVDs digitally. I am immediately drawn to the ease of use apple TV but have some caveats.
1. Can I attach the necessary terabytes of hard disc I will require?
2. I love the browse feature via DVD cover/Director/Actor. However can i get the same organisational lovely GUI for my own ripped DVDs
Popcorn hour has several such GUIs available eg "Yet Another Movie Jukebox" but they are pretty PC biased YEUCHHH!!!. Nonetheless they are providing me with the functionality I need for my desired jukebox experience. In essence this is kaleidiscape on the cheep but a degree in programming seems a pre requisite.
3. None of the blurbs on apple TV explain how it deals with pre-existing DVDS in my collection? Can someone enlighten me?

1. You can attach as much storage to your mac/pc as you like, but not directly to the tv itself. You can store 40 or 160 GB on current tv's but can stream an almost limitless amount of content via itunes. The tv does run into issues with extremely large libraries (100,000 items +). For the avoidance of doubt the size of a library is judged by it's item count, not its storage requirements, so 130,000 tunes using 350 GB may be an issue, but 5,000 movies using say 10 TB, would likely be fine.
2. The way you browse itms content on the store is not the same as the way you browse your own content, whether purchased or home video. However one of the great features of the tv is it's GUI, I doubt you'll find other alternatives to equal it.
3. You won't find any instructions for converting your own DVD's, this is illegal and is not only won't you find  providing instructions to do this, but you will also find discussion of this nature is not permitted on its forums.

Hold down the power button and restart whilst holding down the Command and R keys. This should take you to the Recovery partition. Use Disk Utility to both verify and repair permissions and your hard drive (if needed). See if this will get you started again.

How much data does the apple maps app use per hour ?

i would like to know, if somebody could give me a rough number of how much the Apple Maps app uses per hour for navigation ?

Apple's Maps app uses vector graphics, so it doesn't have to download data everytime your view changes, & also has an offline mode...you can download quite a large area over WiFi & then use this cache to navigate.
So, I really wouldn't worry too much about its data usage. Most tests I've read indicate it uses about 80% less data than Google Maps.

When I rent a movie using Apple TV, it takes several hours to load and then I select watch later. When I go to my rented movies and try to watch it , it starts loading all over again. This can't be normal. Is there something that I am doing wrong?

If it's taking several hours then that is likely due to your internet connection. You can verify at speedtest.net
6mbps required for instant 720P
8mbps for 1080P
You can switch to SD in the settings (which only requires 3mbps)
You can also check istumbler or netstumbler for interference
Make sure you are on your ISPs DNS
The reloading is normal. There is no accessible storage on ATV. The small flash is used for caching streamed content, if you access other things or turn the device off it will be flushed.

I am getting the same thing on 3G. I have been for an hour or so. I can't get any WiFi so I can't try that. Everything else seems to be working ok so I'm wondering if all is well with the iTunes Store. E-mail and phone working OK. It seems like some services are working and some are not. Maps wasn't working right and now it seems to be. I can figure it outbut I'm in work and don't have a lot of time to play.

You should reset your iPhone,
Reset your iPhone by pressing the 'Sleep' and 'Home' button at the same time for about 15 seconds or so. Your iPhone will then go through a reset / reboot procedure and will be ready for use within about a minute.
Don't worry about doing this as you will not lose data or settings.

The second time I tried the samething happened so after nine hours I found that the "Quit Aperture"button had greyed out so I had to Force Quit. I do not know if the order wascancelled but I do not think that the upload was successful.
What can I do about this problem?

I also am not able to print a book. I have Aperture on two Mac, MacBook Pro (current) and a MacPro - both printed books prior to update 3.1.3 now all I get is the spinning ball then I have to Force Quit. I tried books I have ordered in the past (trying to print a new book) and they also failed. This is not a picture problem but a problem with 3.1.3 update. I would like to print some more books and give Apple some money but can't.
Any suggestions?

Airport Express and Popcorn Hour (or other wired only ethernet device)

I have a popcorn hour media tank that has a wired only ethernet port. Can I connect this to an Airport Express base station, have the Airport Express connect to my existing wireless network, and have the popcorn hour or other wired only ethernet device get out to the internet?
Once again for simplicity DSL>Wireless router>Airport Express>popcorn hour. The setup guide says that I can connect a modem to the Airport express, but it does not say anything about the Airport Express acting as a wired hub. Thanks.

I recently purchased the Airport Express and plugged the SAME ethernet cable into it. Now my Laptop is no longer able to connect to the desktops or printers. The wirelss network works fine. I can get on the internet, just not connect to the other devices.

Effectively, you created a second network (subnet) when you introduced the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) in the mix. When computers are on separate subnets they have trouble "seeing" each other.
To resolve this, you just need to reconfigure the AX as a bridge.
To set up the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) as a bridge, using the AirPort Admin Utility, connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then, make these settings:
Network tab
- Distribute IP addresses (unchecked)
- Apply the new setting.

Aperture slow sync to apple tv 2 ( I mean hours)

I have a large photo library within aperture 3.1.2, and I have an apple TV 2 that I use for casual browsing of the library.
The issue that I have is that when I add new photos to aperture, it can take a day or more until they show up in apple tvs photos.
Its almost as if apple tv is looking at an older version of my aperture library.
I have done a software update in the mac that serves apple tv, and also, ensured that apple tv is up to date. I've tried closing itunes, aperture, logged off, log on, rebooted apple tv 2 (by unplagging)- to no avail, restarted itunes, aperture, apple tv etc etc.
I just dont seem to be able to say to apple tv 2 the equivalent of "hey, go an refresh your view of aperture, there are new photos in there "
This is really frustrating, because the photos that i want to look at the most, are typically those that I have just taken.
Its really weird. As an other example, if i make a new smart album in aperture say "photos from last couple of days", with the obvious smart album selection criteria, then this too does not appear in apple tv 2 until a few hours later.
This smart album works as expected in aperture- no problems.
They will turn up later, but apparently with no rhyme or reason as to the timing.
I think its down to apple TV storing an older version of metadata for the aperture library.
I could understand it if I had no photos at all coming across, or if only photos with previews that come across, but no, it doesnt appear to be any setting such as that, becuase they will come over, eventually.
This appears to be a big bug- New photos cant be shown on apple TV for a day or two - grrrrrr.
Im pulling my hair out with it.

Before photos can be shared to the ATV2, the images must be optimized, and some info stored in a file in the package of the particular Aperture Library you last used (if you have more than one) named iPod Photo Cache (don't worry about the name). This takes time apparently, and I often see some elapsed time before seeing on the ATV2. Since the device has no memory to hold the image content, this is not really syncing in the same sense as with an iPad or first generation ATV.
However, I never have more than a few albums selected to Share, as my primary Aperture is very large, and impractical to peruse on the ATV2. Still, it can take time to update the needed file in the package.
This file, which is in the package both in each separate Aperture Library and that of the iPhoto Library. This is why only one library can be shared with the ATV2.

Our new AppleTv is really slow... even when the movies were downloaded to the computer, which we accessed from the Apple Tv it took an hour to load a 45 minute video! Is that normal?

Our new Apple Tv seems to be way too slow to be normal. We had tv shows from the Apple Store saved to our computer, and when we played them through Apple Tv, we found out that it would take more or less an hour to load! It was only a 45 minute show, and admittedly it was HD, but I still find this ridiculous. Is this normal, or can I fix the problem? Please help!

NO its not normal. Apple tv is so key on internet connection. How far away is your router? Hardwire is obviously the best, but with me for example, my apple tv is a room over from my router. Really close with no other devices being used at the time. It can be a number of factors. I run a macbook, xbox, ipad, and apple tv off my router with no problems. I have a good router, good location(router), and not all running at the same time sucking bandwith. Check this out:

Network is set up as such.. Apple TV hardwired with Ethernet Cable, MAC where iTunes resides is WiFi on a dual band wireless N network. No dropped connections, network showing in perfect connected status.. All other home networking functions working perfectly. No wireless or ethernet disruptions.
Apple TV works perfect for about one hour then all of a sudden stops and says home sharing is turned off.. but it's not. Double checked iTunes on the MAC, home sharing still set up no issues. I restart iTunes.. does not help, reboot MAC does not help. Reset Apple TV doesn't help.
About an hour later, home sharing shows up in Apple TV again..

Can not get Itunes match to work. It stops on the first step and on my status bar it just says "sending information to apple" this goes on for hours. Help please.

I am having a similar issue with iTunes Match. It keeps hanging up on the same number of files (11035 of 15455) during STEP 2. I've tried signing out, re-opening iTunes, re-booting, etc. Still comesup stuck for hours. What I also don't understand is why the "iCloud Status" option in "View/View Options" disappears intermittently. It was there when I first booted up this morning and I reviewed all my music files to see if there were any "errors" and there werne't any. But after Match gets stuck on the same file niumber (11035) I 've signed out and re-booted and now the "iCloud Status" check box is missing from "View Options" (only the "iCloud Download" option remains present all the time. Please help. (I've also checked to make sure all the music files are within the suggested bit rate parameters and file type - This is also a brand new iMac out of the box). Running out of troubleshooting ideas and beginning to think this service just doesn't work well.
