Apple TV or Xbox 360

I own a Xbox 360 and was wondering if there would be any benefits from buying a Apple TV. I have Netflix on my Xbox but wasn't sure if there was any difference between the two. Any help would be nice. Thanks

If you are only interested in Netflix I doubt you would gain anything by having an ATV. The Xbox 360 has much better graphics performance than the ATV and will support Netflix in 1080p, something the ATV can't do.
However, if you are interested in streaming video from your iTunes library, renting video from the iTunes store, or having access to the extensive collection of podcasts there, then the ATV is the only game in town.

  • Replacing Apple TV with Xbox 360, Video Questions

I have had an ATV for a little over a year and thanks to Handbrake I now have an incredible Movie Library over 600 flicks ripped for ATV with the .m4v extension. This month I am getting an Xbox 360 and would like to use it in place of my ATV and move the ATV to another room. I have been doing my research and everything says I should use Connect 360 or Rivet to make contact between my iMac and Xbox 360. Though I have read that movies with the extension .m4v will not read. I have read on various sites that I could just change the extension to .mp4 or .avi and it will work fine. Though alot of the data out there on connect 360 and Xbox 360 streaming seems to be outdated and I can't tell what has been fixed by updates. so... my questions are,
    1. Will my movies stream to xbox 360 via connect 360 in the .m4v format?
2.If no, can I just change the extension to .mp4 or .AVI? (I changed the extension from .MP4 to .m4v on some movies when I got the ATV due to some recognition issues in itunes last year and had no problem)
    3. If I change the extensions will my ATV still be able to play these videos from elsewhere in the house?
    4. Will it all just work flawlessly with no problems thanks to amazing updates from all parties?

I wanted a next gen game system. Part of the way I could convince my wife to let me get an xbox (Im whipped) was to offer to move the ATV to the bedroom so she could view our media in there. Since the Xbox has media center qualities I figured I would take atvantage of them. Now I trying to figure out the best way to get both working.

  • Apple - Please add Xbox 360 support!

Hey, a new update is being released for the xbox this month that adds support for the latest ipods, but iPhone and iPod Touch support apparently isn't supported.
They said this was due to the software on the iPhone, not the 360... that I'ld have to contact you directly.
Do you think this would be possible? There's tons of people on the xbox forums who have the same problems as I.
We all can't play music on the 360 from our Touch or iPhone.
    -Thanks.

  • Airport and xbox 360

Has anyone been able to connect wirelessly their airport or airport extreme with an xbox 360? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank-you

Hello mikegmalibu...Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
    Xbox 360 & AirPort Setup
    On the AEBS/AX:
    - Use the AirPort Admin Utility to check the following settings:
    AirPort Tab
    - Jot down the AirPort Network Name. (Note: The AirPort Network Name is the same as the SSID used by the Xbox.)
    - Note, whether or not, you have "Create a closed network" checked.
    - Note your Wireless Security settings.
    Network Tab
    - Make sure "Distribute IP addresses" is checked.

On the Xbox 360:
    - System tab > Network Settings > Edit Settings
    - IP Settings: Automatic
    - DNS Settings: Automatic
    - Wireless Mode > Select Wireless Network (Note: If you had "Create a closed network" enabled on the AEBS, then you will need to select "Specify Unlisted Network" otherwise you should see the AEBS's AirPort Network Name.
    - Edit Wireless Security Settings (Note: You will have an opportunity to select your wireless security settings. They must match those set in the AEBS.) If you're not using wireless security, then select "No Security" from the list.
    - Apply Settings
    - Test Xbox Live and/or Test Media (This will run a series of tests to verify that your wireless is setup properly.)

  • XBOX 360 with Apple Airport Express/AIrport Extreme?

Well im about to buy an apple airport extreme wireless router for my house. The router is going to be located on the second floor with my cable modem. Planning to put my airport express in my room on the third floor.
So i am just wondering if you can directly plug in the xbox 360 ethernet cable to the airport express for xbox live.

...I will get a better connection using the Xbox wireless adapter and my Airport Extreme Base Station, than I do by connecting the Xbox via Ethernet to an Airport Express that is wirelessly connected to my AEBS?
    Yes
If I get the xbox wireless adapter, do I still need to configure my AEBS as WDS...
    No
...and could I get my old network communication speed back?
    Yes

  • Xbox 360 + Apple Cinema Display... is it possible?

I was wondering if anyone knew if it would be possible to hook up my Xbox 360 to my 20 inch Apple Cinema Display. Microsoft sells a VGA cable at the moment.

"I thought i read somewhere that the 20'' apple cinema display is not HD like the 23'' and 30'' are. Is this true?"
The 20 doesn't get the 'HD' moniker because the vertical resolution is less than the needed 1080 for HD content. Both the 23 and 30 have more than 1080 lines.
    I suspect if the HD you're referring to is 1080i you'll need a 23 or 30.

  • APPLE 30 inch ACD and XBOX 360

Hi, I haven't yet bought the Xbox 360, but wonder if anyone could tell me if its possible to adapt my 30 inch screen to an Xbox 360? Is there, or will there be a special adaptor or something, or will it just fit?
    Thanx in advance
    Pete

Osharu, I wondered if you managed to get your Apple monitor to work with your Xbox 360?
I have tried numerous things like buying gender changers and cables and nothing will work with the 30inch, it just will not comply. It seems to me its just not able to convert the appropriate signals. I even phoned Apple, they were useless and I also phoned Xbox people and they were useless too.
    I bought this:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=9701799431&rd=1&sspagename= STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1
    and this:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=9701505659&rd=1&sspagename= STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1
    and this:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=9701507959&rd=1&sspagename= STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1
    and of course this:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8269589300&rd=1&sspagename= STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1
Nothing gets the 30inch running with the 360.
Now I'm told there are different DVI connectors with different pins, maybe I've overlooked things.
Looks like I may have to buy a high Definition telly when I can afford one.
    Regards
    Pete

  • XBOX 360   APPLE TV = ?

Out of curiosity , if you connect an Apple TV Via HDMi to an Xbox 360,what will happen?

would i have my xbox screen on my mac?
What?!?  How would you see that ever happening?  No.  That would not happen.  Nothing would happen since as has been posted twice now the XBox 360 does not have any HDMI input ports.  Only output ports.  Even if it did AirPlay sends the desktop to ATV.  ATV can not send anything to your Mac.

  • Xbox 360 and apple airport ip address HELP PLEASE!

hey i just got an xbox 360 and i got the wireless internet adapter than microsoft makes to pick up my wireless internet. I have an ADSL ethernet modem that is plugged into my Airport, which is streaming in my house. So on my xbox i got the test for the wireless connection to work. then the test for the IP address failed. I have looked online to find the IP address, but i dont know which one i need (of the computer? the airport? the modem box?) and the subnet mask, and gateway, and the DNS numbers. can anyone help please? i have mac os X if that helps

i think that's what i mean. sorry im so confusing. i have a mac laptop, which is connected to my wireless network at home, which is an apple airport (you know the little white box that plugs into the electrical outlet) which is also plugged into an ADSL ethernet modem box from US Robotics (which is my cable internet). so then i will be able to find the IP of the airport where? network settings? and last thing, if that is the gateway for the xbox, what is the subnet mask, and the actual ip address of the xbox?
also, if this helps, when i look at Network, under System preferences, Airport is the network, and under TCP/IP it says that the IP Address is 10.0.1.2, the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0, and the Router is 10.0.1.1

  • Xbox 360 elite + apple 23 inch display???

so i found the converter from hdmi to dvi but its really expensive around 400+ and would like to find an alternative so if i was to use the dvi to vga for the 23"display then use the vga adapter on the xbox 360 would that possibly do the job needed? or in another scaler needed to run that?

it will not work unless you shell out 300-400$ usd for a converter box

  • Xbox 360 to iMac, lets finish this once and for all!

    Hello Everyone!
New to the forum here and I joint to get a finalised answer to a question I've heard people bickering about for ages! (hopefully the answer will come from someone who has done it/tryed it, not just someone who is going to create a theory of what would work!)
So I want to use my iMac as a screen for my Xbox 360, because, well, it would be awesome!
I have so far heard too many different things, for example, if I have a new 27" iMac (which i do) that its possibly just a single wire, mini DisplayPort to HDMI.
Another thing i have read said, it can only be a single mini DisplayPort to HDMI as long as i have 8GB of Ram.
Another has said I need to get a complete video converter to run through my mini DisplayPort that would cost around 150 pounds.
I'm a student and cant really afford to be wrong other wise I would guinea pig this myself, so what im asking for here is someone to lay the smack down. Which is it, if any?!
Does anyone even know if it has been successfully done yet!? And if it has, to how much success, does it have high lag? Because the guys at AppleCare Support were pretty sure it has been, but they were not allowed to recommend me anything because there is no official Apple fix for it. . . . Hence the reason why i was directed here. . .
    Thanks in advance!

The answer is behind Door #3. It is a very expensive proposition.
The two way mini-DisplayPort on the 27" iMac will only accept DisplayPort signaling. So you need a device that has DisplayPort video output, such as a new MacBook Pro which can be attached to the iMac with a simple m-DP to m-DP cable. If you have a device with a DisplayPort video port you can attach it to the iMac with a DisplayPort to m-DP cable. But if the device has any other video output, then you need a video converter to convert the signal to DisplayPort. And most of these converters can only supply 720p to the iMac. One very expensive one can do 1080p.
You can get the converters from Kanex and Atlona.

  • Airport extreme connecting with xbox 360 wireless adapter problems...help!!

Has anyone linked their xbox 360 wireless adapter to an Airport Extreme? I need help! Neither Apple nor Microsoft knew how to link the two devices. If anyone has successfully been able to make this work, your help will be much appreciated. Thanks guys

Yes - Mine works no problem. I have found that I have to unplug the Xbox360 wireless adaptor and plug it back in occasionally (if the green light is on everything is fine). Are you using the correct WPA Key?

  • Using the Mac as a wireless Bridge for the Xbox 360

Want to use your Mac essentially as a wireless adapter for an Xbox 360 or any console? plug in the ethernet cable between the two devices and follow the setup process!
    Wireless Bridge setup process
    1. Open system Preferences.
    2. Clisk sharing, then the internet tab and select Airport as the “share your connection from” then select the Built-in Ethernet in the list.
    3. Open up the terminal Application and type ifconfig en0 in the window it sohuld display an outcome like this
    ifconfig en0
    en0: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
    inet 192.168.2.1 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.2.255
    ether 00:16:cb:cc:80:aa
    media: autoselect status: inactive
    supported media: autoselect 10baseT/UTP <half-duplex> 10baseT/UTP <full-duplex> 10baseT/UTP <full-duplex,hw-loopback> 10baseT/UTP <full-duplex,flow-control> 100baseTX <half-duplex> 100baseTX <full-duplex> 100baseTX <full-duplex,hw-loopback> 100baseTX <full-duplex,flow-control> 1000baseT <full-duplex> 1000baseT <full-duplex,hw-loopback> 1000baseT <full-duplex,flow-control> none
    4. This gives you the information of what your computer’s IP address is. On the xbox dashboard in the network setup screen select manual and select the top section which contains the IP address, subnet mask, and Gateway address, for the IP address, input the Highlighted section above plus one, so its 192.168.2.1 (this is for standard configurations, again, just add one to the last digit of your IP address.
    5. Open Airport Admin Utility, the select configure on your airport. Then select the Internet tab This will give you your subnet Mask, input accordingly.
    6. For the Gateway address, you are going to put in the value in the blue box. This is because you are using your Computer as a gateway, therefor you need to tap into its connection.
So For the Average setup you will use:
    IP Address: 192.168.2.2
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway Address: 192.168.2.1
    7. Now for the DNS server, this varies according to What internet service you have, but, Airport admin utility provides the answer, right below the information we used above, you will see DNS Server. viola! Put that in as your primary DNS server in the second box of edit options in the network menu.
Now you should be complete, test the connection and you should be Ready to Go!! Happy Gaming!

    Welcome to the discussions, DanSwiggsD!
If you have a non-Apple device as your main router, unfortunately the AirPort Extreme has almost no chance of compatibility with your main router.
If you do have an Apple router as your main device, please post back with your model number and we'll let you know how your devices should be configured.
If you don't have an Apple device as your main router you have a few options to connect the xbox:
    1) A pair of ethernet powerline adapters could be used if you did not want to run a regular ethernet cable from your main router to the xbox.
    2) The new AirPort Express 802.11n model does have a feature called Proxy STA which should allow it to receive a wireless signal from any wireless router and allow the ethernet port to be enabled.
