Apple TV - pb when downloading a movie

When I try to download a movie, I get this message (translated from french):"in order to secure your account, need more information". Then nothing happens, back to the movie page. Worked fine before. Tks for help.

The 2G model doesn't have a user accessible hard drive, it has an 8GB flash-based storage used for caching. The movie will start once enough has loaded in order for it to play without interuption.
The time it takes will be based on your internet speed, there are other factors that can cause issues like DNS, ISP throttling etc.
For me rentals start after 5 seconds and are loaded after 45-50min

Yeah this "fix" is bunk. The movie is downloading just fine, but the extra features is the one giving me this error code. It is NOT my firewall. If it was, then both files wouldn't download. Plus, I already have the firewall "issue" tacked down and fixed. Have had it fixed for months now. No, this is due to the "new" itunes version 11 software. The only conclusion to fix this issue is UPgrading from 11 back to 10.7 which is what I am going to do. This is completely ridiculous! Come on, Apple, get itunes working once and for all, and fire the people responsible for itunes 11, just like you did to the guy who was responsible for apple maps. Thankfully Google came back to the rescue with google maps app.

  • HT1539 how do we not download extras when downloading a movie?

When downloading certain movies that come with extras it seems to take longer and several attempts to download the extras. Is there a way to not have these down Load?

The logout settings are under the Advanced tab under Security & Privacy in the System Preferences. More than likely you have it set up to automatically log you out after so many minutes. Simply untick this setting.

  • Do you have to be signed in to the same apple ID that you downloaded a movie to watch it?

We use my husbands apple ID to buy things or rent but I use my ID for apps and to keep us from getting the same messages. If I downloaded a rented movie from his apple ID do I have to be on his apple ID to view it? I ask because I tried to watch my movie on my 9.5 hour flight but it said, "cannot open." Please help soon!

There could be an issue if you had not fully downloaded the movie. There are some odd things that happen with airplane mode, many people can't get movies to work in this mode. Part of the porblem is the elevation of the device, and the time changes, not to mention entire time-zones and location changes due to modern jet travel can cause issues like this to happen.
Of course, when testing on the ground the airplane mode seems to never glitch up
It's a new technology with issues that still need to be worked out (which seems Engineering didn't think ahead of time)

  • Apple tv freezes when playing rented movies

This is a new issue for me. Every time I rented a movie from the Apple TV(3Gn) the movie doesn't download or freezes. Sometimes the Apple TV restart by itself. Also when I play movie trailers, sometimes it doesn't download the trailer completely.  I ran a speedtest and the downloads are above 20Gbps. By the other hand, Nexflix runs excellent without any problems at all. Please I need help to fix this situation. Thanks!

That may indicate interference. Netflix adapts to the connection whereas iTunes content is fixed. First try rebooting ATV and router. Make sure DNS is set to automatic (settings - general - network).
If on wifi try ethernet. Go to istumbler (Mac) or netstumbler (PC) to get a report, look for signal strength and noise.

  • My apple TV  can't download a movie without stopping several timese aftervindid the latest software update. Plus, I got a message that it could not connect to the iTunes server for a full day. Please don't tell me I spent all this money for nothing!

After a day of my apple tv not being able to connect to the iTunes server, I am now able to connect but can't even download a movie. Please don't tell me all the money I spent on this system as well as content was a waste. What the heck is going on apple?!? You guys used to be the best!

Thanks for running that test on the brand new library, jfinch420. I can add that Home Sharing seems to be otherwise working. Yesterday, as a test I shut off Home Sharing and rebooted the AppleTV and my iPhone Remote app stopped working. I reenabled Home Sharing and the app began working again. The Remote App requires Home Sharing to work. This would seem to indicate that Home Sharing on my AppleTV seems to be working.  So the problem for me is very specifically that all network services work on my AppleTV except the ability to access my iTunes library.
I'm trying to think of what variables changed. iTunes was updated to v12.0.1.26 on October 16th, and there was an AppleTV update on November 17th, but my 2nd gen AppleTV is still running 6.2.1. There is no later OS for it. I was using my AppleTV to stream media from my iTunes library on the 26th. For the life of me I cannot identify what changed while I was away over the holiday. By November 28th, my AppleTV could no longer connect to my iTunes library.
In addition, my AppleTV frequently crashes and reboots when accessing preferences from time to time. It's likely related. In fact, last week I changed my library name to see if the AppleTV would notice. I did it again a moment ago and my AppleTV crashed every time I selected "Computers". I rebooted iTunes and the AppleTV and that fixed the crashing problem. I don't know what it means, but I'm throwing it out there for what it's worth.
I will check the following things next:
    1) Connect iTunes & AppleTV via ethernet to rule out WiFi router issues.
    2) Use a different iCloud account to enable Home Sharing.
    3) Wait for the weekend when my friend can use his iCloud info to test home sharing between his laptop and my AppleTV.
    4) Call Apple. Maybe there is a component on the AppleTV motherboard that has gone bad causing the problems.
BTW, I have an enormous library, too, but your test ruled out library size as an issue.

  • "Cannot open" error when downloaded *purchased* movie from icloud?

This had happened multiple times and I cannot believe it hasn't been fixed when I see issues with rentals from years ago!  I fully downloaded a movie I purchased a year ago to my iPhone. It successfully downloaded, processed, etc. Shows the dot next to it as fully unwatched. Plenty of room on phone. Have watched movie on our Apple TV - no problem.
WHen I go to watch, annoying "cannot open" message. :-(
Do they seriously expect me to ONLY download movies to a computer with a hardwire connection and transfer them? I can't travel with an iMac desktop, obviously! What's the point of icloud then?!!!!! It's ridiculous!
ANY tricks to get this movie to play? Anyone have any luck in this situation?
    Thanks.

    Hi kfrau13,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you were not able to view the rented movie, you may want to report the issue with your purchase:

  • Why when downloading a movie is my iPad incapable of doing anything else except freezing

The last few weeks when downloading movies from iTunes both rental and purchased my iPad seems to freeze when doing anything else at the same time and I have to give it a hard restart. Help would be appreciated.

    Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
Make sure there's sufficient storage space. Tap Settings > General > About > Available

  • HT1725 How do I fix, "Download error." when downloading a movie to my iPad?

I started to downloaded a movie but now get and error when trying to resume. On ITunes it says "downloading" when it clearly isn't.  I am also unable to delete the download in the download tab on ITunes. Please help.

I found a SAP note, that is exactly what I expected, and now it is  solved.

  • Getting not enough storage msg when downloading itunes movie to ipad2

First attempt to download iTunes movie to my iPad2.  Got msg saying not enough storage.  I'm new to the whole Apple world and am not sure what to do to fix this problem.

Go to Settings>General>Usage and see what's taking up all the space. Delete what you can do without. Remember, you'll need about two times as much space as the size of the file in order to complete the download.
    Best of luck.

  • An unknown error has occurred when downloading (insert movie/song) (-1309)..." purchased from iTunes

I recently purchased a movie from iTunes and have received this message, which, seemingly will not allow me to download said movie.  DOes anyone have any suggestions on how to fix the bug?

    Thank you so much.
I renewed my credit card details at Apple and it caused the error message.
It was easy to understand what happened/ what to do by reading your message.
I hope that Apple make the message more friendly.
    Appreciated
