Apple tv reboots trying to play a number of mp3 files I have

I have hundreds of mp3 files that do not play on my Apple TV; although, they play fine on iTunes, and iPod Classic, and iPod Shuffle.
The files were recorded on Windows and have the following info:
kind: MPEG audio file
bit rate: 96 kbs
sample rate: 44.100 kHz
format: MPEG-1, Layer 3
channels: Joint Steroe
ID3 Tag v2.3
encoded with: Unknown
I've had my Apple TV for 10 months, and these files have always crashed the system (through numerous software updates). Is a fix for this problem in the pipeline?

I had the same restarting issue with standard mp3 files. I also didn't like the idea to encode hundreds of files again or send the ATV back, cause I like the rest of it. After searching a while I finally found a solution for my problem:
in the ID3 tags there is a field for the total number of tracks of an album. I never maintained that field and found in iTunes, that for some albums it was set to the maximum (?) value "65535". E.g. the second track of an album appeared as "2 from 65535" in iTunes.
Exactly these tracks caused the ATV to restart. After deleting the "65535" from the field or setting to the correct value in iTunes and resynching the song the ATV played the song without any problems. Hope that helps.
Improvement suggestion for the ATV developers: develop a better error handling. Simply restarting the ATV is annoying and doesn't fit for a otherwise superb product.

It can come about without any change done by the user, and it's not just from other networks. The placement of the router can also affect performance. Also make sure router is up to date.
Apart from that would be the reboots.

Thank you for your detailed question. It sounds like the real issue is pdf files. Are there any antivirus/firewalls that might be blocking this specific file type? or are there any preferences in your control panel that might be blocking this?
Do you have any stored preferences for PDF files in Firefox?

Itunes/quicktime crashes when trying to play video podcasts and 3GP files

I've searched these forums and didn't see anything that might help me, so if know of any solutions posted already, please let me know. I have an HP laptop(AMD Turion 64 X2 2.0 GB processor, 2 GB or RAM) running Windows Vista Home Premium. I used to be able to play 3GP files at one time with Quicktime, but now I cannot. Then, the other day I tried to play a video podcast and it starts to play, then says, "Itunes has stopped working". Quicktime does the same thing with 3GP files. This was before my update to Itunes 8.0. It happpened with Itunes 7.5.11.1 or whatever the last version was. It obviously does the same thing with Itunes 8. I've tried completely uninstalling Itunes and quicktime, then reinstalling them both and I still have the same problem. Just a note: I tried playing the video podcast via Windows Media Playey, and it worked fine, except for no audio(I don't think WMP has AAC support) so I think something is conflicting between Itunes and my computer. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance!

I downloaded Real/Player. When I tried to play clip got msg: You do not have authorization to update this copy of Real/Player, R/P is op. on locked disc. Have no idea what to do?

I just downloaded Real/Player to my SnowLeopard Mac OS X version 10.6.8 dual core processor intel core 2.16 GH. 2.5 GB. I downloaded and tried to play a clip from the web. I received a message: YOU DO NOT HAVE THE AUTHORIZATION TO UPDATE THIS COPY OF Real/Player. Real/Player IS OPERATING ON LOCKED DISC. I'm new at navigating on a Mac. I would appreciate any help I could get for this or any beginner tutorials out there?

I cannot get a clean copy. The clips I downloaded are still there and so is the problem, no audio, no video. I opened up the console and it's like reading a different language, literally! I know I'm taking a huge liberty but perhaps you can find something in the errors that will help (I thank you in advance this gives you any clues)

If I could figure out thes tring of messages or errors in computer language specifically related to Real Player, I could narrow the errors down from the search box. Because there were many other messages in the console.

Aperture crashes upon trying to play video. Exporting .AVI file wont play.

I uploaded my holiday pictures and 4 videos into Aperture and when I try to play the videos I get pretty bad beachball with no playback of the video. When I export the file I am presented with a SAM_xxx.AVI file. (SAM from Samsung camera). I have tried to play the file with Quicktime, VLC & MPlayer X. I ran the 4 files through DivFix++ and I am given the error, "Input file is not .avi"
Any thoughts as to whats going on? Aperture shows a thumbnail for the videos and VLC shows correct length but no playback.

I have both an iPad and iPhone connected to my Mac. I disconnected both, then restarted my Mac and Safari. No improvement. Used Lion Recovery System to reload Lion. Interesting thing, Safari 5.1.7 was installed rather than Safari 6. This made me happy, as Safari 6 has been nothing but trouble for me. When I opened Safari, it took me back to apple.com, even though my homepage is yahoo.com. I was immediately confronted with the infamous Steve Jobs video, that has crashed my computer every time it's popped up on my screen. This time, however, it didn't crash ... I just got the spinning beachball for about 30 seconds, then the Quicktime thermometer at the bottom started moving and I was sure it was going to work. After the thermomter passed about one-fourth of the way over, the screen blanked and the Quicktime thermometer started all over again. This behavior persisted until I got tired of it and went to my home page. However, I can open Quicktime and watch videos again, even the YouTube ones that were crashing every time. Now I just have to figure out how to never let a Software Update stick me with Safari 6 ever again. If it does, I'm simply through with it and will make Firefox my default browser. Thank you so much for getting me this far. I will keep monitoring these discussions to see if Apple ever gets Safari 6 to the point that I'll give it another trial.

IOS 8 won't play podcasts, RRS or MP3 files on ipad2

i uograded to iOS 8 and now can't play podcasts, nor MP3 files on safari, RRS feed doesn't work either. My iphone 5 suffers from same problem. They are pretty mush useless now that I have upgraded
i have restarted each device, delet d and reinstalled software, changed search engines to see if any of those available will work. I've run out of ideas and may just restore to old system.

Why is the audio file stop playing midway through a .mp3 file in Firefox and not in the IE browser ?

I tried update Firefox, but I lost some major add-on, which me caused to return to my present Firefox browser, and the .mp3 file still would not play completely in the updates browser either.

Itunes won't play some of my .mp3 files or add them to its library

I recently have had some strange issues with Itunes. On MP# files I purchased elsewhere, I would add the folder for the new artist to my library, and then voila I would have them in my Itunes library. Here lately, it would play some of the files but not all of them from a few of the artists, but not others. When I click on the song nothing happens; there's just a little gray apple up there and when you play the song in front of it and advance to the next song, it skips the one it would not play entirely. This is happening on 2 or 3 artists randomly; I know the songs used to play on there but now they won't. So, now I have uninstalled Itunes, eliminated all its directories, and reinstalled Itunes again and made my new library. Now Itunes will not even put those songs in my library so I can't even see them. In fact, for my Kings of Leon songs, it now won't add any of them to my library when before it would only add a couple after I had removed them and tried re-adding them. What is going on here? Any advice is much appreciated!!

Those are the usual symptoms of iTunes being strict/finicky/incompetent (pick your own interpretation) about slight variations in MP3 formats. It can usually be resolved by treating the files with a 3rd party tag cleanup program such as MP3 Validator, and then adding them to your iTunes library.

I am trying to enable writing of my bookmarks file and have followed the directions to do so but I can't open the places.sqlite file. I have no application with which to open it.

The problem I am trying to fix is that I can't save any bookmarks. I uninstalled then installed again and still have this problem. There are no other problems but this one. I have tried disabling my extensions but that didn't work.
