Apple TV Remote drives iMac nuts.
When using the Apple TV remote on the Apple TV all functions on the remote are mirrored on my iMac and drving it nuts. Sound up and down, up and down all the songs in iTunes and starts playing them. Some functions on the Apple TV remote cause the iMac to download TV shows and etc.
I don't think it's the remote itself. I blocked the iMac with cardboard to block any IR and it stills does it. It seems to be the Apple TV is somehow sending this information to the iMac. I have no clue how to stop this. Also is Front Row really necessary to run the Apple TV from the iMac? It's a nuisance as I would like to use my iMac while the Apple TV is in operation which is not possible. If I quit iTunes then I get my iMac back!!
After posting this message I found a solution in one older post. Ignore remote in System Preferences/Security. Thanks, everything is working fine now and Front Row doesn't launch and quit, launch and quit. Yay!
Also AirPlay works fantastic from my iPhone 4S albeit a little on the slow side for HD.
A tip I learned on my own, connect your ATV2 with ethernet as well as wireless so HD movies from your Mac load a lot faster.

I have an older iMac 5,1 and the disc drive no longer works. I was hoping that I could the Apple USB super drive as a replacement, but the info on the super drive page says compatible with iMac 2012 or later. Does anyone know why it would not work for me?
A reply to similar question (Q & As , in product page Apple Store) says:
"...dissable the internal reader hardware from devices setup. Then plug the external usb superdrive and that's it." Answered by Enrique T from Lima Oct 25 2013.
If you can locate an external Apple USB 'Air" superdrive for earlier model MacBook Air, that should work. The newer one for the Air is the same as for iMac, now.
You may be able to use other brands of external USB optical drive with your older intel-based iMac, as some of them function capably. A few should also be able to see system discs or other bootable utilities on DVD.

If you don't want to use a remote with your computer the easiest thing to do is just to turn the IR off. (System Preferences/Security/General)
If you still want to use your computer remote then you must pair your computers remote with the computer AND the Apple TV remote with the Apple TV.
To pair a remote with a device hold down the menu and FF buttons together for six seconds or until you see a chain icon on screen (best take the computer into another room, or turn it off, when you do this) -
Does Apple Genius change my iMac hard drive to SSD?? If i already bought a ssd ??? and just take ssd and my imac to genius and maintain my apple care??
wouldn't it make a difference if the SSD was an Apple product? And can't you order just the Apple SSD? At the local Apple store many of the geniuses won't touch it if it's a third party item.

Apple TV remote "controls" the iMac's Volumn!
My new Apple TV remote obviously is able to control the volumn of my iMac when I toggle the remote up and down although I have paired the remote to Apple TV. Any suggestion and solution? Appreciate.

How can i get my imac to stop responding to the apple tv remote?
I installed my Apple TV in the same room as my IMac computer and when ever I use the Apple TV remote to watch a movie, my computer starts responding. Is there any way to stop my IMac computer from responding to the remote?

I've been trying to sort this out for a while; somehow my Apple TV is no longer homesharing with the rest of my network. I had hoped to use my apple TV remote to re-activate the Remote Apps I have on my iPod, but the remote isn't responding. I've tried unpairing, but if I press menu-rewind for six seconds, it sends me to the resolution screen instead, and the white light flashes repeatedly - I can't get the remote to accept the resolution settings, or get the cursor to even so much as move. Extremely frustrating as I've been unable to make this work for a week and I don't drive (I'm disabled and housebound) so just popping into a shop somewhere to get it fixed is a slim-to-none chance of possibility.

What are the penaltys to operating lion from a remote drive?
My Macbook pro with Lion installed is runing slower and slower and I have tried all of the fixes that I can find on the internet including, clearing the SMC, resetting the PRAM, defraging my 1 TB internal disk, run Kaspersky, run Mackeeper, fixing permissions. I have done all of these multiple times without much improvement if any. There are times when I can type a sentence into mail and watch as the program runs one or two words behind my typing. I have 8 Gig of memory, 2.66 intel dual core. The rotating spere is my worse enemy and I am sick of it.
I need to run Windows 7 in a paralles VM much of my work time. I use the computer for architectural work and I run an Autocad Program called Revit in the VM. Other times, I need to use Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom in the Lion enviroment. I never try any more to have the VM running and photoshop at the same time - I could go on vacation and back before I get the machine to respond in that circumstance. I have tweated the amouts of memory allowed to both without seeing any real change. I suspect at times video card problems but have turned off acceleration in the Autocad enviroment to get around it.
The one thing that I haven't done and don't want to do is a clean install of Lion. This problem has been progressive and I doubt if the problem orginates with Lion but who knows? So I got this idea, I could install Lion on a cleaned 500 GB remote drive and then install Paralles and Windows 7 in that version of Lion. Then I could boot from the remote drive where there is nothing else installed and Paralles/Autocad/Lion would have total free access to all of the resources of the computer by itself. Do you think this will work? I realize that it would have no effect on the programs installed and their slow response time for the internal drive but I could almost live with that.
If this improves proformance for Autocad on the remote drive, does that imply that a clean install of Lion on my internal drive would fix the current problems? I do not want to go to a windows POS to solve this problem with all of its inablity to start up and shut down and blue screens - been there, done that. But frankly, I'm not that far away from the same kind of time wasting computer issues with my Macbook.
Any help will be appreciated and I am willing to try almost anything.

yes, you can drag the library to your internal drive. if it has the same name as your current Aperture library rename it or drag it to a different folder.
I followed the instrucitons when formatting the drive, although I would not rule out an operator error
You can see the name of the file system on the drive, when you select the drive in the Finder and press the key combination ⌘I (for File > Get Info). The file system will show in the "General" brick of the Info panel. -

JJAs I was saying earlier that is not possible because the Apple TV has no accessible storage and streaming from your iMac is done via home sharing on your local network.
iTunes purchases can be accessed via the cloud on Apple TV. If you have iTunes Match you can access your full music libary from the cloud.
Using the iPad to watch your films would require syncing them and then connecting the iPad to a TV. -

If your iMac is the new slimline models, there is no longer a bulit-in IR receiver input to use the separate Apple remote any longer.

If you purchased the iMac less than 3 years ago and it has got one of the defective hard disks, Apple will still replace it for free. Make a backup of your files with Time Machine and take your computer to an Apple Store or reseller. A Genius will check if your Mac was purchased less than 3 years ago.
If the computer is older, you will have to pay. Note that if you already have the iMac on April 12th, 2013 and before, and you knew that your iMac had a defective hard disk, you should have taken it even if the hard drive was working correctly -
I have the latest 27" iMac and can't pair my apple IR remote, I haveread a lot of the other posts regarding this "problem", I have no option to "pair" in the security settings that has been mentioned in other posts. I tried the IR remote i have for the Apple TV and that doesnt work either. I dont really want to install CandelAir, what else can i do?
