Apple TV remote is controlling the MacBook

New Apple TV remote is also controlling iTunes on the Macbook.  Can I disable the remote for the Mac?

In your System Preferences, go to Security and there is a check box at the bottom that disables any IR remote from comntrolling your Mac.

my apple remote wont control the volume in my itunes, any ideas??

Not via the Mac. I just hooked up a TV to mine via HDMI and it shows the It comes up with the volume logo on the screen with a line through it, when I select audio output via HDMI. If you select another audio output like internal speaker yo can change volume.

  • How do I use an apple tv remote to control my mac

I am having a macbook pro with retina. How do I use an apple tv remote to control my mac?Is there a way. For eg. if I want to control the volume using the remote how do I do?

No, the iPad has no IR receiver. (I think you mean "Airplay" and not "Airdrop", by the way.)

  • Bought an Apple TV and the remote affects my Mac book pro when in use is it possible to disable the remote function ion the MacBook Pro

When browsing on the Apple TV menu the remote affects my MacBook Pro and changes it to video mode even if not connected with the Apple TV

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
In that case, just disable the IR port of the MacBook Pro > http://support.apple.com/kb/PH7234
If you are using OS X Mountain Lion, you have to go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Advanced

  • How do I get my Apple TV NOT to control my Macbook volume?

We just recently bought an Apple TV. We synced it to our new remote to control volume and everything. Now, when we're on the Apple TV, when we move up and down on the screen, my volume on my Macbook Pro goes up and down with the tv. How do I get that to NOT happen.

If you don't want to use a remote with your computer the easiest thing to do is just to turn the IR off. (System Preferences > Security > General, click on the Advanced button in the bottom right corner - If the button is greyed out, click on the lock icon and enter your administrators password)
If you still want to use your computer remote then you must pair your computers remote with the computer AND the Apple TV remote with the Apple TV.
To pair a remote with a device hold down the menu and FF buttons together for six seconds or until you see a chain icon on screen (best take the computer into another room, or turn it off, when you do this)

  • When using apple tv, it also controls a macbook. anyone that have got this problem

installed an apple tv but when i started to use it, it began to control a macbook.
has this happend to anyone else?
    it´s the 1080 versjon apple tv (2) i think

They use the same type of remote that's why.
You can pair remotes with devices, computers so the device/computer only responds to that remote.
Simpler if you don't use a remote with the Mac just to go to System Preferences and under Security>General there should be an entry to disable the Mac IR sensor.

  • Apple TV Remote hidden controls

Are these controls legit? While in know some of these are simple and work on the device without much risk, I don't want to blow my device trying out unknown/new control.
    Restart Your Apple TV
p><span>This is my favorite tip on this list because I frequently find myself navigating into the Apple TV’s layered Settings screens to restart the device whenever it gets <a href="/glossary/wi-fi" title="Wi-Fi is a way of wirelessly connecting to the internet over a broadband connection." class="lexicon-term">Wi-Fi</a> issues. Well, no more! Simply press and hold the DOWN and MENU button at the same time for six seconds to restart your Apple TV.</span></p>
    h3 dir="ltr"><strong>Sleep Your Apple TV</strong></h3>
p><span>You can also quickly put your Apple TV to sleep using the remote. Usually it goes to sleep at after a predetermined amount of time passes. To make that happen sooner hold the PLAY/PAUSE for five seconds.</span></p>
    h3 dir="ltr"><strong>Get To Home Screen Instantly</strong></h3>
p><span>Sometimes you can be knee deep in submenus on the Apple TV, especially when using some third-party channels. The good news is you don’t need to back out of each sub-menu step by step. Simply press and hold the MENU button on the Apple TV remote for three seconds and you’ll be taken to the Home screen right away.</span></p>
    h3 dir="ltr"><strong>Arrange / Hide Channels</strong></h3>
p><span>For the longest time the layout of the Home screen was fixed, but then in a software update last year Apple finally added the ability for the user to rearrange and hide channels. This no doubt came in response to the increased availability of third-party channels on the Apple TV--some of which a user may never have an interest in viewing.</span></p>
p>To rearrange channels simply hold down the SELECT button for two seconds. The channel icons will jiggle. Use the DIRECTION arrows to move the selected channel. Or press the PLAY/PAUSE button to hide an channel.</p>
    h3 dir="ltr"><strong>Rewind / Fast Forward At Different Intervals</strong></h3>
p>Everyone knows you can use the left and right direction pad to skip backwards and forwards, but you can actually use the same left and right buttons on the direction pad to rewind and fast forward at different intervals. Hold the LEFT button to rewind 30 seconds. Press the LEFT button to rewind continuously. Alternate your rewind speeds further by pressing LEFT once each time to cycle through slow, medium, or fast rewind.</p>
p><span>The opposite applies to fast forwarding as well. Hold the RIGHT button to fast forward 30 seconds. Press the RIGHT button to fast forward continuously. Alternate your fast forward speeds further by pressing RIGHT once each time to cycle through slow, medium, or fast fast forward.</span></p>
    h3 dir="ltr"><strong>Go Slow-Mo</strong></h3>
p><span>This one is really cool. You can rewind or fast forward through video in slow motion on the Apple TV. To do this simply press the PAUSE button then press the LEFT or RIGHT button to rewind or fast forward in slow motion.</span></p>
    h3 dir="ltr"><strong>View Video Settings</strong></h3>
p><span>Sometimes you might want to adjust audio or other settings for a video that is already playing. You can use the Apple TV remote to quickly do this by pressing and holding the SELECT button for three seconds while the video is play. This will bring up the video’s settings including subtitles, speaker settings, audio, and closed captions.</span></p>
    h3 dir="ltr"><strong>Mark Episodes As Watched</strong></h3>
p><span>Many times we have full TV series we’ve bought via the iTunes Store that we watch on the Apple TV. However most of the time we’ve already seen some of the episodes in each season. This tip allows you to use the Apple TV remote to mark episodes as already watched. To do this you need to be in the iTunes TV Shows channel on the Apple TV. Select the episode you want to mark as watched and then press and hold the SELECT button. You can also mark entire seasons as watched by selecting the season and then pressing and holding the SELECT button as well.</span></p>
    h3 dir="ltr"><strong>Pair / Unpair Apple TV Remote</strong></h3>
p><span>If you’ve got lots of Apple TV’s in your house you may have some remote conflicts. The good thing is you can quickly pair and unpair remotes simply by using...the remote. To pair a remote to an Apple TV press and hold the RIGHT and MENU buttons for five seconds. To unpair a remote from an Apple TV press and hold the LEFT and MENU buttons for five seconds.</span></p>
    h3 dir="ltr"><strong>Switch On-Screen Keyboards</strong></h3>
p><span>Using the on-screen keyboard is one of the chores of navigating the Apple TV. You’ll use this keyboard whenever you need to enter login information (say, for Netflix) or when you are searching for a show. Thankfully the Apple TV remote has these hidden controls to make using the keyboards easier.</span></p>
p><span>Press PLAY/PAUSE when entering text to switch between the alpha, numeric, and symbol keyboards. You can also hold down the SELECT button for two seconds to bring up the accented characters and then press PLAY/PAUSE to select the one you want.

  • Apple tv Remote is controlling my electronic blinds

My apple tv remote is causing my electronic blinds to activate and go up and down. Anyone have a solution?

Less surprising was when I was doing some work on my MacBook Pro and my three year-old asked me to choose yet another Thomas the Tank Engine movie on YouTube on the Apple TV (which, in some megalomanaical possessive confusion with DVDs, he calls "My Apple DeeVeeDeeVee"), and the remote launched Front Row on the laptop at the same time as operating the DeeVeeDeeVee. Oddly, it doesn't seem to operate either of my Mac Minis.

  • I got a new macbook pro and am having a great deal of trouble with it from the start!  But other than that, which I will get to, I have had macs since the one following Lisa and I am a diehard apple fan, yet now with the macbook pro and Lion and its

I could not download the upgrade to the mountain lion. my updates were taking an enormous amount of time for other programs. When I finally got the indication it was waiting to be downloaded I had to shut down. It was after 2 am and I was practically unconscious already with all the trauma of trying to find the right place for the redeem of the code to open the password. It was all confusing and poorly communicated by Apple. The terrible deterioration of Apple's written communications by non-American techies who can't write for easy understanding, even by this old time tech afficianado is heart-breaking and frustrating is putting the effects mildly.  I have not yet gone back to the mac book pro to finish the job. I am too frustrated and unhappy with the new system.  Also, I found out the hard way that my time capsule saved files on the macbook Snow Leopard, which still works fine after 6 years of use, is locked in that external drive and I cannot transfer the items except one by one or by folders on that computer to a DVD or to a flash drive, to mport to this new computer. Because the systems are not the same, I can't access the files automatically. I fear I will have further problems with the mountain lion vs. lion in seeing those files. What can I do? What should I do?  I am afraid to designate an external hard drive I purchased with the new laptop for the time capsule because then it won't work with any other computer.  I read of terrible incompatibility issues and crashes and things not working right once Mountain Lion was installed and now I am terrified they will happen to me. I just wanted the computer to be as easy to use as all the other macs I have and have had and now it is more like a horribly complicated and difficult Microsoft IBM compatible PC. I hate this. Perhaps Apple wanted to appeal to new Apple users and tried to make them comfortable while disregarding the comfort of loyal Apple users?  It's a sell-out. Meanwhile, I have to get senior tech people because the kids who try to answer my questions much of the time don't interpret what i am telling them and it takes a pro.  Perhaps the kids can answer what I should do in preferenced to scroll the screen, since the scroll indicators disappear and I can't see them and have to resort to using the arrows on the keyboard, which is not the way I like to work.    Please advise me about all of these things!

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

  • Does the Apple Radio Remote work after the update?

Anyone try it after the update? I know it didn't work before...
And a side question, since there doesn't seem to be anywhere to ask...are the support forums (especially logging in) constantly crashing Safari (Mac version, desktop) for you?

The Apple Radio Remote I am assuming you mean the one linked below
    http://www.apple.com/ipod/accessories.html
It would be the accessory attached to a ipod.
IF this is the accessory your referring too. Then please note that the compatible devices that it works with is only ipods and not the iphone. Check the link below for yourself.
    http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=B9E C42BD&nplm=MA070G/C
If you wish to have this accessory available for the iphone then leave feedback below
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
And no logging into the forums is quirky but it does not affect my safari especially not crashing.

  • Apple TV remote also affects my MacBook Pro.

  • Does the Apple 1 year guarantee cover the Macbook internationally ?

    Hi
I'm planning to travel to the US in the coming weeks and was thinking about picking up a Macbook Pro since its a lot cheaper than buying it in europe. I'm just concerned about whether the apple 1 year guarantee will cover me in europe. Is the guarantee worldwide ? Can anyone at apple help answer this question.
    thanks in advance

It's a worldwide warranty but you are only entitled to the level of warranty in the country you are in. So if you buy it in the US you get so many days phone support and warranty hardware replaced by apple, but another country may not have phone support and you have to take it to a service agent for repair. In the end it's all the same really but it's an interesting point to note.

  • Can multiple remote desktops control the same machine at the same time?

Can anyone please tell me if this set up possible:
    mac mini running XP app
iMac logged into to control that app
ibook logged in to control that app
of course, only one person actually moving the mouse / using the keyboard at one time.
    Miklos.

What I want it for is for both computers to be able to control a mac mini and the reason I want them both to be able to be logged in, is because I know at some point I"m going to go to the other end of the building, forget to log out of one, and need to use the other, and then I'll just shoot myself in the foot with the whole set up if you know what I mean. Mostly nobody else will use it just me so this is really helpful!
    Miklos.
