Apple Tv Remote Issues

I just bought a new Apple Tv and seem to have some issues. The **** remote that came with the Apple Tv is making my iMac play music and much more. Is there a way around this? Does iTunes have to be open and my iMac on for my Apple TV to work?

Go to the Apple Menu and choose System Preferences. Click on Security. Under the General tab check 'Disable remote control infrared receiver'.
Launch iTunes and under the Advance menu and select 'Turn On Home Sharing'. You'll need an iTunes (Apple ID) account to turn it on.

Our Apple TV remote stopped working after a few months of use...
We replaced the battery, but it still does NOT work.
Wondering if there is anyway to troubleshoot the remote itself?
Hopefully we are not out another $20 for the replacement - haven't used it that much!

Welcome to the Apple Community.
Your Apple TV may have become paired with another remote. Hold the remote close to and pointed at the Apple TV, hold down the menu and Rewind buttons together for 6 seconds or until you see a broken chain icon on screen.

HT201335 It got nA new router today and wanted to turn on apple tv but my remote app on iPad and iPhone will not recognize apple tv. Btw- I do not have apple tv remote.

It reboots it but unplugging can also rectify communication issues like this. A restore would be the next step.

Apple infrared remote not working

Just a few days ago I updated Keynote, my time scale is a little hazy but I know recently, like last week, I used my appl infrared remote to control Keynote. I was able to press play and advance slides. This was a great thing, I remember doing and thinking wow apple is great. Now it doesn't work. I can turn the volume up but playing or advancing the slides does nothing. It sure seems like the last update removed this feature.
Anyone know whats going on?

Are these controls legit? While in know some of these are simple and work on the device without much risk, I don't want to blow my device trying out unknown/new control.
Restart Your Apple TV
p>This is my favorite tip on this list because I frequently find myself navigating into the Apple TV’s layered Settings screens to restart the device whenever it gets <a href="/glossary/wi-fi" title="Wi-Fi is a way of wirelessly connecting to the internet over a broadband connection." class="lexicon-term">Wi-Fi</a> issues. Well, no more! Simply press and hold the DOWN and MENU button at the same time for six seconds to restart your Apple TV.

p>You can also quickly put your Apple TV to sleep using the remote. Usually it goes to sleep at after a predetermined amount of time passes. To make that happen sooner hold the PLAY/PAUSE for five seconds.

p>Sometimes you can be knee deep in submenus on the Apple TV, especially when using some third-party channels. The good news is you don’t need to back out of each sub-menu step by step. Simply press and hold the MENU button on the Apple TV remote for three seconds and you’ll be taken to the Home screen right away.

p>For the longest time the layout of the Home screen was fixed, but then in a software update last year Apple finally added the ability for the user to rearrange and hide channels. p>To rearrange channels simply hold down the SELECT button for two seconds. The channel icons will jiggle. Use the DIRECTION arrows to move the selected channel. Or press the PLAY/PAUSE button to hide an channel.

p>Everyone knows you can use the left and right direction pad to skip backwards and forwards, but you can actually use the same left and right buttons on the direction pad to rewind and fast forward at different intervals. Alternate your rewind speeds further by pressing LEFT once each time to cycle through slow, medium, or fast rewind.
p>The opposite applies to fast forwarding as well. Hold the RIGHT button to fast forward 30 seconds. Press the RIGHT button to fast forward continuously. Alternate your fast forward speeds further by pressing RIGHT once each time to cycle through slow, medium, or fast fast forward.

p>This one is really cool. You can rewind or fast forward through video in slow motion on the Apple TV. To do this simply press the PAUSE button then press the LEFT or RIGHT button to rewind or fast forward in slow motion.

p>Sometimes you might want to adjust audio or other settings for a video that is already playing. If you don't want to use a remote with your computer the easiest thing to do is just to turn the IR off. (System_Preferences/Security/General)
If you still want to use your computer remote then you must pair your computers remote with the computer AND the Apple TV remote with the Apple TV.
To pair a remote with a device hold down the menu and FF buttons together for six seconds or until you see a chain icon on screen (best take the computer into another room, or turn it off, when you do this)

My Apple TV remote workers for me not my wife

My brand new Apple TV remote works fine when I'm using it but when my wife tries to push the large button to launch a video it will not work for her. She has tried to carefully push the middle only but still it responds with an error sound. I take it back and it works fine again. We have repeated this many times. I upgraded the software as prompted on screen a day ago. Could that be an issue?

Problem solved. She was pushing AND HOLDING not just pushing

Installed iOS 8.1.3 on iPhone 6 and Apple TV Remote App no longer works

After installing 8.1.3 and rebooting, the Apple TV Remote App stopped working. I can tap to select options, but cannot swipe or gesture to move to other options. Rebooted Apple TV and iPhone 6, no change. No other apps were affected.

Can you set up Remote app to Apple TV without original Apple TV remote?

I lost my Apple TV remote, so I tried looking up other ways to control my Apple TV. I found the Apple Remote app, but I can't get it to work. The setup information I found indicates that you have to turn on home sharing on the Apple TV, but that can't be done without a remote. Obviously I don't have a remote right now, so I'm trying to find out if there's another way to get my Remote app to work on my Apple TV without the original remote. Can anyone help?

Learn how to set up your Apple TV (3rd generation) using an iOS 7 device.
With Apple TV software 6.0 or later, you can set up your Apple TV (3rd generation) by transferring the following from your iOS 7 device:
Wi-Fi network and password
iTunes Store account
Language and region format preferences
System requirements
To use your iOS device to set up Apple TV, you need the following:
Apple TV (3rd generation) using Apple TV software 6.0 or later
One of these iOS devices using iOS 7 or later
iPhone 4s or later
iPad (3rd generation or later)
iPad mini
iPod touch (5th generation)
Setting up your Apple TV
Follow these steps to set up your Apple TV (3rd generation) using your iOS 7 device.
Connect your Apple TV to your television and power and wait until your Apple TV displays the setup screen.
Unlock your iOS 7 device and ensure that Bluetooth is enabled. Also ensure that you are connected to the Wi-Fi network you want to use with Apple TV.

Apple TV remote skips music tracks when navigating menu

I've just set up my Apple TV and paired it to my Macbook through home-sharing. However, when I'm navigating the main menu (using the Apple TV remote), it will pause/skip/go back on the music tracks that are playing, as well as moving between menu items. Is there any way to keep the same track playing without skipping it every time you click the remote?
I have set up the remote app on my phone which doesnt seem to suffer the same issue but I'd like to use the tv remote if possible.

Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy. Click Advanced in the lower right. Click "Disable remote control infrared receiver."

Apple tv streaming issues with netflix

Can anyone help ?
I have also used my apple tv for using my netflix streaming, for some reason i can access all the movies but when i click to watch them it states an error has occurred. I have now started using my wii u to access netflix and i have no issues. I havent changed any settings on my apple tv.

Yes, I'm having the exact same issue since the latest update. I thought it was my internet connection but it worked perfectly fine in my ipad and macbook air.
I also have 2 Apple TV's and the problem is in both of them. I really hope apple fixes this issue ASAP.
In the meantime, if you wanna watch your netflix content on your apple tv with good streaming and you have an iPad/iPhone with netflix on it. I recommend Airplay mirroring the iOS device and then opening netflix, it will airplay the video content and the iphone/ipad screen will function as a remote control with all the settings and stuff...its kinda cool...the only bad thing is that you can't turn off the iPad/iPhone screen or it will pause the movie.
i hope this works for you while apple fixes this issue.
