Apple TV repeatedly giving message, "Unable to connect to server, please try again."

I'm having a horrible time with the Apple TV I purchased 3 days ago.  I'm using it wirelessly, the signal is strong, I've already power cycled the modem and router, but it continues to give the message, "Apple TV unable to connect to server..."  It works intermittently.  All the other devices in my home are working properly, so I know it's not the internet itself.  The ONLY thing that works is restarting the device, but even that only works briefly and before long the connection fails.  Does anyone have a genuine solution other than having me restart the device?

I ended up getting a new VMS box as the rep thought that the HDD was going.  I am still having latency issues with the remotes and the TV displays.  Also there still are times when the signal freezes for a second along with the sound but resumes.  The Techs have replaced my splitter and these problems continue.

    ok, please try below steps,
    1. Quit ADE.
    2. Choose Start > Run.
    3. In the Open text box, type regedit and then press Enter. The Registry Editor opens.
    4. In the left pane of the Registry Editor, locate the following registry key:
         HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adept
    5. Right-click the Adept key and choose Delete.
    6. In the Confirm Key Delete dialog, click OK.
    Your authorization will be deleted.
    ADE will be deauthorized now.
    Now Authorize ADE again.

    I am no longer able to send or receive any files via messages on my desktop - im running OS X 10.8.4.
    I haven't change any setting recently, its just started saying "unable to connect to proxy. Try again"
    If i go to preferences in messages and server settings the server is api.oscar.aol.com and the port is 443 with Use SSL checked, connect using proxy is unchecked.
    any suggestions?

    Hi,
    iChat and Messages are rubbish with Proxies.  (but see 5th paragraph)
    Older version of iChat had proxy settings you could make in the app itself (As in on the AIM account's pane)
    It always did slightly better when set to use the "System Settings" if a proxy was in use.
    In Messages this have been reduced.
    See Messages > Preferences> Accounts > Aim account > Server Settings tab.
    It is now a Tick Box and a "Use System Settings" box.  There is nowhere to actually stick info.
    IS the computer using a Proxy to access the Internet ?
    Is it set up correctly in System Preferences > Network > (Advanced Button) > Proxies tab ?
    As I have never run a Proxy my knowledge is limited after the point.
    My Post reading habits/Methods.
    Read Email alerts and visit new posts in threads I am already involved in.
    After that go to Using Mountain Lion and filter "Messages" and read oldest Unread first.
    Quick scan of page one from things that might be about Messages that were not marked for the filter.
    Repeat for iChat Community.
    Repeat if time for Lion Comunity > iChat and iChat Sharing filter.
    Most days I do get all new posts.
    (yesterday I didn't though).
    Bumped posts can therefore get "Missed" for longer as they go up the Unread list.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    Try the following.
    Go to Settings > iCloud > Delete Account (This removes your data from your device, but not from your account, it will be added back later).
    Restart the device.
    Sign in again (Settings > iCloud, don't use the 'Create New Apple ID' button).

    Have you turned the iPad off then back on? That often helps with problems.

    I'm experiencing the same problem. Don't think I can help, but maybe I can offer an explanation. It looks as if Flickr has changed their API and Adobe will need to update the export plugin to comply to get it working again. I found this announcement on Flickr:

    You may not really be connected to your WiFi network.
    Your router may not have given your iPad a valid IP address. Go to Settings > Wifi > your network name and touch the ">" to the right to see the network details. If the IP address starts with 169 or is blank then your router didn't provide an IP address and you won't be able to access the Internet.
    Sometimes the fix can be as simple as restarting your router (remove power for 30 seconds and restart). Next, reset network settings on your iPad (Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings) and then attempt to connect. In other cases it might be necessary to update the router's firmware with the latest from the manufacturer's support web pages.
    If you need more help please give more details on your network, i.e., your router make, model and version, the wifi security being used (WEP, WPA, WPA2), etc.

    ...Re-installed iTunes
    ...Turned off firewall
    Connects to iTunes Store and Ping with no problems, computer is authorized.

    The process of AquaDan88 had worked for me (one million thx to him/her for the tips !). Now, I've to say something (maybe usefull for you kevinfromnorman). It is very important that you create a new account (not necessarily in USA. In my case, I'm in Switzerland and I've created a new account (without credit card into the app store in my country). The important thing is how to create this account:
    You absolutely MUST follow this Apple process to create your new account (without credit card) since the point 2) of AquaDan88 procedure. Follow carefully what Apple wrote on the page I've put the link here under

    Doing this will for sure resolve your problem (as he resolve mine right now).
    A last information. For those that already have an second account created, don't try to use your second account in place of create a new one. It is really important to CREATE a new account and not use one already created one ! I've tried with an already existing account yesterday evening and it won't make the deal.
    By the way, I'm amazed by the answer you received from the iTunes support kevinfromnorman !!! As soon as you've recover your Genius, answer back to their email with the right solution ! ;-)

    Is anyone at apple reading this. This has been happening since I updated my useless ipad to IOS 6 about a month ago. Apple breaks iMessage, FaceTime, safari and just about anything that has to do with sending pictures and all they do is remain silent. What kind of customer service is this? I loved my ipad until I updated to IOS 6. IOS has turned it into a piece of junk that just continues to frustrate me and obviously a lot of other people that just keep trying to get the apple applications to work when the problems are all on the apple server end. I will never spend another penny on an apple product after being treated like this. If this keeps up it won't take too long before the most valuable company in the world sees a crash in their stock price, and rightfully so. We need to talk to apple by selling our stock because once this gets out their stock will be worth about as much as my useless ipad.
