Apple TV requirements for Windows PC

Is it true that I must have Adobe Photoshop Album 2.0 or later, or Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0 to stream photos from my Windows PC to the Apple TV. Isn't there a way that I can just 'point' iTunes to a windows directory and stream from there?

I was actually looking at the streaming option and not synching --- I found this article ---
"Summary
Apple TV can be used to stream your favorite photos from iPhoto or Aperture on a Mac, as well as Photoshop Album or Photoshop Elements on a PC and then view them on your widescreen television. Photos can't be streamed to Apple TV if the client computer is setup for syncing. To learn more about syncing photos to Apple TV, go here."
I couldn't find anywhere that it said that you can set a default folder on a windows PC. I did read that a Mac can have a default folder but I couldn't find any reference to a windows PC streaming from a folder on the drive and not software.
Just want to make sure on this. Thanks for the reply

Is the apple configurator available for Windows or even ubuntu?

    Hello,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Apple Configurator requires both Mac OS X, and the most up to date version of iTunes, and can only be installed from the Mac App Store.

WARNING: This procedure involves moving, deleting, modifying, and copying system files and possibly sytem registry entries. If you make a mistake you can kill your system [I killed two of mine until I
figured out the problem with the outdated GEAR drivers]therefore:
1)Back up your entire system or better yet, get a cheapie new HD like Western digital 2 TB for $69-129 depending whether on sale or not and reinstall your system from scratch on the new drive. If

    3) I wrote these instructions down from memory. Read and understand entire procedure before you start. There is some troubleshooting you may need to do to make it work on your particular system. This

    16) Change Launch Condition from (VersionNT>=501 AND ServicePackLevel>=2) OR VersionNT>501 to (VersionNT>=501 AND ServicePackLevel>=2) OR VersionNT>=501
    18) Install itunes64.
    19) Shutdown and Reboot.
    20) Search your PC for GEAR*.*
    21) Delete all the files found that are deleteable. This will get rid of the bogus Gear drivers (Version 2.2.0.1 from 2008 and 2009) that iTunes installs.
    22) Run Gear drivers installer you downloaded earlier. This will load the correct Gear drivers (Version 2.2.2.0 [or 2.02.02.00- depending where you look in windows for the version number] from 2011 and
2012 drivers versus defective 2008 and 2009 drivers). The Gear driver connects the cdrom to itunes for sync. The usbappl driver connects the iPod to itunes for sync (Via the USB).
    23) Ensure the file GEARAspiWDM.sys, usbaapl64.sys, also ksthunk.sys is in C:\Windows\system32\Drivers. If not search and locate these files. Then copy them to the correct directories Remember to set
your More advanced options to Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and search subfolders.
    24) Now you must verify registry entry for UpperFilters exists and has GEARAspiWDM for value.
    25) Go to Start, then Run, then enter regedit, then OK. Select HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, then SYSTEM, then CurrentControlSet, then Control, then Class, then {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}, then
UpperFilters, right mouse click and select modify, then verify the Value data has the entry GEARAspiWDM. If not go back to {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} and right mouse click select new, then
Multi-String Value, then name it UpperFilters, right mouse click and select modify and enter GEARAspiWDM for Value data, select OK and close registry.
    26) Shutdown and reboot.
    27) Now you need to update the cdrom/dvd driver and the USB driver.
    28) Go to Start, then Control Panel, then System, then Hardware, then Device Manager, select DVD/CD-ROM drives, select Don't search. I will choose the driver to install, then select Next, ensure Show
compatible hardware is checked. Select CD-ROM as the driver, then Next, then Finish.
    29) Shutdown and reboot.
    30) Start computer, plug in iPod to USB, wait for windows to detect the device, probably detected as a camera. Go to Control Panel, then System, then Hardware, then Device Manager, and find the iPod.
    31) Right mouse click and select Properties, then Driver.
    32) Select Update Driver, then select Install from a specific location (Advanced), then Next, then select Don't search, I will choose the driver to install, then select Next, ensure Show compatible
hardware box is checked, select USB driver for iPod, then Next, then Finish.
    33) Shutdown and Reboot.
    34) Start iTunes. Ignore the message iTunes was not properly installed. If you wish to import or burn CDs you need to reinstall iTUnes (This message comes from the device driver install failure for the
cdroms because the current Itunes installer still contains the bogus outdated Gear drivers). Select OK.
    35) Now Itunes should work.

  • Forum : Apple Software Update for Windows

Anyway we could get a notification at the top of the Forum : Apple Software Update for Windows
Something in red with big letters similar to at the top of the discussion forum page as it seems that the majority of the posts in there have nothing to do with the Software Update for Windows software.
Just to let people know that the forum is for something in particular not a place to post random queries.
I was clicking through trying to find some info (that i couldn't think of the right words for so didn't search) and the amount of unrelated stuff in there is surprising.
Anyway thought i'd bring it to peoples and hopefully the hosts attention, and figured something at the top to advise people of the actual use of that forum might help cut down on the dross.

The Hosts might be willing to give it a try, but I'd wager a cookie that it wouldn't help. There are huge red letters above this forum telling people not to post technical questions here, but people do it all the time anyway. It can be annoying, I know, but people often just seem to get focused on what it is they're after and just don't notice they're in the wrong place, or they're confused and/or frustrated and post in the first place they can find. There's not much that can be done other than to gently redirect them to a more appropriate place to get assistance (and if you're Level 2 or above, you can notify on the post and ask that it be moved to the correct forum).
    Regards.

  • Upgrade to I-Tunes 7.4.2 with Apple Software Update for Windows

I upgraded to I-Tunes 7.4.2 and that went great. But I was also offered an Apple Software Update for Windows which would not install. The error message said something about a part of it not being able to run. Is this a Vista thing? I still have Windows XP and don't plan to change to Vista. Will I have issues with newer versions of I-Tunes if I can't get this Software Update for Windows to install?
    Thanks!

Thanks for the replies, but what I am hoping for is a solution.
Even though I asked, you never said if you have an ASU 2.0.0.21 ... so this solution runs the risk of being irrelevant to your situation. (It applies to the issue of ASU 2.0.0.21 on an XP PC returning an "invalid signature" message when trying to download an ASU 2.1.0.101.)
If that's what you've got here, then usually a software installer bundle from Apple which contains a higher version of ASU than the 2.0.0.21 will install on the PC in question.
(Avoid using the BonJour for Windows 1.0.4 standalone installer just at the moment, as a precaution. Last time I checked, about 20 minutes ago, that still contained an ASU 2.0.0.21, and that won't get you any further forward than you currently are ... assuming that you've currently got an ASU 2.0.0.21 in place.)
So download and install another Apple installer bundle. Here's a link through to the QuickTime Standalone installer, although the Safari for Windows or iTunes installer would also work:
Latest Quicktime Installers … get the one that doesn’t mention iTunes
That should, as part of the install, update your ASU to version 2.1.0.101. To check on that, launch ASU ("Start > All Programs > Apple Software Update"), go "Help > About Apple Software Update" and check the version number. If you're now at ASU 2.1.0.101, you're past the problem with ASU 2.0.0.21 returning an 'Invalid signature" message when trying to install an ASU 2.1.0.101 (assuming that's the particular problem you were actually experiencing).
You can then uninstall QuickTime for Windows (or Safari for Windows, or iTunes and QuickTime and Apple Mobile Device Support, depending on what installer you used to update your ASU version) through your Add/Remove programs control panel.

  • Should I let it install "Apple software update for windows 2.0.2"?

Thanks, in advance... it may just be a ditz of a question.
Running Vista and when in Mac occasionally run Parallels, Apple Software Update window popped and this update appeared:
Apple software update for windows 2.0.2 with the description
"This update includes general fixes and renews the root certificate that authenticates software delivered via Apple Software Update."
I figure it was logical enough considering the obvious link but the description just looked to vague. So, I put it off... today searching the internet, Apple Help and so on for this "update" cannot find it anywhere. I have already had problems with file corruption so "fixing root certificates" unnecessarily is not ideal.
Anyone else know one way or another or just tell it to go away for good?
    Thank you,
    Kylie

I never actually use Software Update excep to tell me there is something (if I hadn't read about it). I go to the standalone downloads. There was one for QuickTime for Windows that you DO want.
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/
It sounds like Software Update for Windows, and that probably does deserve installing (I use x64 and don't really trust support yet or installers from Apple for now) so I have Apple software update in vista turned off.
I do have the 9-17-2007 2.0.2 "Apple Software Update for Windows" installed.
Why I don't trust Apple: alerts and UAC's are always hidden behind the installer window in front. I just tried to close the windows or dialogue box for Apple Software Update Preferences, it asked for UAC and went black, but I can't even close the box even though all I did was hit "Okay" button. So its 'hung' now.
Apple needs to improve the installer for Vista - a lot. I like not having to type a password every time, that has gotten old after 6 yrs.

  • Apple Software Update for Windows and Proxy servers

I try to run Apple Software Update that just got installed in Windows, but it is unable to locate the server and immediately quits. I know I have to go through a proxy server here in work, but I never get the opportunity to enter the proxy information and cannot get to the menus in the Apple Software Updater for Windows to see if I even have the option to enter Proxy information. Anyone has a solution for this??? Any help would be greatly appreciated...oh and by the way, my iPod is not connected when I am trying to update.

I am trying to update my iTunes on my PC and I keep getting this message after I click the button to install the update ... "Apple Software Update for Windows" has an invalid signature and will not install
Okay. Rather than using Apple Software Update, let's try updating your iTunes using an installer downloaded from the following location:
    Latest iTunes Installer
Does the install using the iTunesSetup.exe from there go through any better? If not, what error message do you get from that?

  • Apple software update for windows box that pops up changed to diff.language

Hey, Everyone. The little window that pops up for "apple software update for windows" and lets me know when I have an update for itunes, quicktime, etc. has changed languages. Now it shows up in Spanish. My itunes, quicktime, etc. are all in English, as well as my OS (Win XP,SP3) so I don't know how that one application could have changed. Luckily I can understand Spanish but just wondering if there's a way to change it back.
    Thanks!

    Hi Troy,
I had the same issue as you. All of a sudden the Software Update window was in swedish. After uninstalling and reinstalling ASU a few times I realised there was no need for it at all. All you have to do is go to Control Panel, Clock Language and Region, Regional and Language Options, Administrative, and then Change System Locale. I changed mine back to English (United States), restarted and voila, it was fixed! I hope this works for you too.
EDIT: Just noticed you are running XP. I am on Vista but it shouldn't be too different I suppose.

  • "Apple Software Update for Windows" has an invalid signature.

Hi. Iam trying to update from iTunes 7.3.2.6 to iTunes 7.6.2 but always get this message: "Apple Software Update for Windows" has an invalid signature. It will not be installed. Can anybody help me wth this?

always get this message: "Apple Software Update for Windows" has an invalid signature. It will not be installed.
There is a problem on some XP machines where Apple Software Update for Windows version 2.0.0.21 will always return an invalid signature message when trying to update to ASU 2.1.0.110. Since it tries to do that prior to updating other software, the update of the other software is blocked. (To check what version of ASU you have, launch ASU by going "Start > All Programs > Apple Software Update", and then in ASU go "Help > About Apple Software Update".)
The way around that issue (if that's what you've got) is to update itunes using the link to the iTunes installer that Jefe gave you in his/her post. That iTunes installer will also update your ASU to at least ASU version 2.0.2.92 which should then be able to successfully update itself to ASU 2.1.0.110 next time you run ASU.

Yes. However I personally find it easier and more reliable on a Mac.
For Windows considers the following, Foobar 2000 with iTunesEncode, I believe the free version of dbPowerAmp can also do this with a plugin. Other than that Super see http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html can do this and many other conversions but is not aimed at handling music files and as such is likely to not preserve the tags.
The best tool is XLD for Mac.
