Apple TV setting date/time

I have been waiting for an hour for my apple tv to set the date and time, but it still isnt doing anything. Any suggestions?

It is having trouble connecting to the network. Make sure location is set correctly. DNS should be set to automatic (settings - general - network). If on wifi try ethernet. Reboot ATV and router.

Is the only option getting micro usb cable and factory restore ???
    Please help guys... Cheers..

    Hi, Katie.
I had this same issue and what worked for me was power cycling my wireless network and the Apple TV.  However, if the issue persists, here are a couple articles that will walk you through troubleshooting this issue.

If the steps in the article above do not resolve the issue, then a restore may be needed.

  • I get the message  on Apple TV "setting date and time"

I get the message  on Apple TV "setting date and time", but seems to be stuck in that action. When I check, network settings, everything seems OK.  Any suggestions?

This will normally happen if you continually turn the AppleTV off at the wall (happens each time you turn it on). If its stuck on that, just turn it completely off, then see if it gets stuck on that again. If it keeps getting stuck (as in for more than 5 minutes) on it, plug it into your computer and attempt to update the AppleTV. You may need to restore it if the software is already up to date or it's still not working after the update.

  • Where does Apple collect their Date & Time Information?

I'm trying to isolate a problem for why the date and time for Unalaska and Dutch Harbor, AK when set automatically is on Hawaii Time when it should be on Alaska Time.  The islands further west on the Aleutian Island Chain are on Hawaii Time, but not Unalaska Island.  While in Unalaska, I have to set date & time on all my Mac devices to manual, and switch it back to automatic whenever I leave.  As much as I travel, it is a nuisance having to switch back an forth between automatic and manual. This has been an ongoing problem for the past 2 or 3 years, and previously, it worked correctly.
I've noticed that some date/time websites have it wrong, but some have it correct.  So, if I can find out where Apple collects their Date & Time information, I should be able to figure out whether it's an "Apple" problem or an "ISP" problem.

Wonder why Ford, General Motors and all those car manufacturers don't do this? Hmmm?
I thought that they put out recalls for stolen cars.  Am I wrong on that?
    Yes.
A vehicle recall is to fix issues that the manufacturer feels they need to do something about such as bad parts.
Or the Government felt they needed to do something about.

  • Set Date & Time Automatically

I have an Airport Extreme tied to a cable modem. I also have an Airport Express setup using WDS (remote base station). On both the Exteme and the Express I have checked "Set Data & Time Automatically" and selected "time.apple.com".
The Extreme finally has the correct date and time. (And I assume year.) However, the Express keeps loggin this error; "No address for NTP server time.apple.com." (I am using the "AirPort Management Utility" to view the logs for each Airport.)
I tried typing in the raw ip address for time.apple.com but it didn't change anything. Other then this minor issue both Airports are working fine.
    What am I doing wrong?
      Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Your setup is similar to mine but my Express is in Client Mode not WDS. Here are some of the log entries I see. After it powers up the time is wrong and it reports the same as you of "No address for NTP server time.apple.com." but after a short time it does!

  • "Set date & time automatically" not staying checked

I don't know if this has already been discussed (searched and found nothing) but I just noticed tonight that on both my black MacBook and my new MacBook Pro will not retain the "Set date & time automatically" function. I check the box, close the window, open the date & time settings pane again and it's unclicked. I have no idea when this began happening but it's getting pretty annoying. I believe this could also be contributing to the older MacBook not working with Back to my Mac anymore.
    Anyone else having this problem?

    HI,
Open System Preferences/Date & Time. Make sure the box is checked for automatic. Now click the gold padlock icon so it's closed. You will be prompted for your admin password. Quit System Preferences and restart your Mac.
    See if that helps.
If not... Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Set Date Time Computer with Java in Linux OS

    Dear All,
How to set date time computer with Java in linux OS?
    Rgds,

There is no API for this you'd have to run an external command using Process.exec.
This is the wrong forum for general Java "how to" questions.

  • RT set date/time error

    Hi all,
I have noticed that whe I use the "RT set date/time" vi to set the time on my cFP-2010 the result is 12 hours out. i.e. If it is 2:00PM, I write 14:00 to the vi, and when I read it back, it reads 2:00 AM.
Can anyone please suggest why this is occurring, and a solution?
    Thanks
    David

What time zone are you in and how are you reading back out the time?  I believe FieldPoint
keeps GMT and if you read its time directly, i.e. view an indicator running on the controller,
it will display GMT.  If you bring the timestamp back to the pc and display it there it should
be tz adjusted according to the settings on the pc.

  • HT5706 I have not used my apple tv in a few years, and just got it out of the bag. I connected it up, and it cannot set date, time.  it also does not interact with the remote.  Could it be as simple as a new batter is needed for remote?

I have not used my Apple TV in a few years, and just got it out of the bag to use on a new TV.  I connected it up to power and with an HDMI cable toTV.  It attempts to set date and time and cannot.  I cannot get the remote to interact with the box also.  Could it be something as simple as needing a new battery?

    Hi kybriar,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  This article has steps you can take to troubleshoot the remote itself:

Reset Apple TV by unplugging it from the power outlet, waiting about five seconds, then plugging it in again.
Power off your TV, wait five seconds, then power it back on.
Apple TV (2nd and 3rd generation): Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connectionshttp://support.apple.com/kb/TS4546
Ensure that Apple TV is within range of your Wi-Fi router or base station.
Confirm that your Wi-Fi router and cable/DSL modem are connected to power and turned on.
Make sure other devices (computers, iPhone, iPad, for example) are able to connect to the Wi-Fi network and access the Internet.
Check your Wi-Fi network settings on Apple TV:
Select Settings > General > Network > Wi-Fi and press the center button on the remote to display nearby networks.
Choose your Wi-Fi network from the list.
If your Wi-Fi network uses a password, make sure you are entering it correctly.
Restart your Apple TV by selecting Settings > General > Restart.
Try restarting your Wi-Fi router or modem by turning it off and then on again.
If possible, connect an Ethernet cable and verify your Internet connection. If you can connect to the Internet using an Ethernet connection, verify that your Apple TV is using the latest software by selecting Settings > General > Software Update. If your Apple TV can be updated, install the update and then try the steps again.

  • Apple TV (3rd Gen) won't activate or set date & time

I have just purchased an Apple TV however it will not activate or set date and time.
It was able to update to the latest software but will not log in using my Apple ID.
    I have tried the following:
    1. Reset all settings on ATV.
    2. Reset router (two different internet connections have been tried, both mobile broadband running 3G, the first as a Wifi modem router, the second as a USB modem running through an ASUS RT-AC68U.
    3. Have tried setting port forwarding on port 123 on the router for the ATV.
    4. Have tried connecting the ATV through ethernet from the router.
None of these have worked so far, are there any other solutions?

AppleTV is not seeing the internet from the sound of it.
If you can detect the wifi signal with another device then it must be a connection issue.
I would look at the encryption used - AppleTV didn't used to like WEP and I would suggest using a WPA2 variant for home usage if possible.
Which country are you in and which mobie broadband solution?
The best option is generally ethernet connection to AppleTV:
I assume the ASUS siupports this?
    http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CE0QFjAA&u rl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.asus.com%2FNetworking%2FRTAC68U%2F&ei=8_u7UpqMNeWX7QaM3ICAAQ &usg=AFQjCNEcVDxwzob0BGvwNVYK6mnP9C-4Lg&bvm=bv.58187178,d.ZGU
One other thing, how does the USB modem connect to the ASUS?  From the specs, I can't see the Asus directly controlling a USB modem from its USB sockets, so presumably connected to a computer?

  • Apple TV won't set date time

Rest Apple TV and it will not activate setting day and time

    Simply do this:
To fix the Apple TV date/time issue (ex. power is lost and comes back on):
    1) Turn off router
    2) Turn off Apple TV
    3?Turn on router
    4) Turn on Apple TV

  • Cannot set date& time and only computer and settings icons are showing

I am having difficulty with my appletv(MC572LL/A). It will not set the time & date after it downloaded the last update. It just stalls saying "setting date and time". I have reset the system and even re-installed the latest update to the unit but get the same results. Any suggestions?

Assuming this is not the first time you have used your Apple TV
You might try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
    Also try restarting the router.
If the problem persists, try a restore, you may want to try the previous procedures several times before doing this.
If this is a new Apple TV, it may also be that your network router is not allowing access to the timeserver, check that your router allows access over port 123.
