Apple TV sharing from IMAC 20 inch (2008)

is there a tutorial on how to share from my 2008 iMac to a phillips hd tv using apple tv?

Thanks Brian, Internet sharing is the term used in my iMac settings for using the iMac as a Wi-Fi network, we use this for iPhones, laptops etc as we dont have a wireless router. Did buy a wireless router but couldn't get it to work so thought we'd just keep using the iMac as it worked fine, until now. Apple TV connected to this network sucessfully for watching movies etc but not for Home Sharing so I wanted to find out if this was normal.
I have just spoken to Apple who let me know that this is indeed normal and that this type of network will work for movies etc but not for Home Sharing. So as you say will need to get a wireless router that works, or connect via ethernet (I didn't realise this was possible, but can see it now after going back to the little black manual)
Thanks Brian, thanks Winston, thanks Apple.

  • Can not login to file sharing from iMac

I have been trying to connect through the bluetooth feature to File Sharing from my iMac to my MacBook Pro.  I use the same password for login to my computers and for my File Sharing connections. For some unexplained reason; whatever password I enter when trying to connect from my iMac to the MacBook, it is rejected. I attempted to Change the Password. I entered what I have always used as my password and a new password. That was rejected. I assume because the "old password" was not recognized.
How do I go about establishing the correct password on my iMac to connect to my MacBook. I can log off my MacBook, and restart with that password; so I really don't understand what's going on.
    Please advise.

I read many threads about similar errors while connecting to BI Publisher I tried this:
    - Patch KB908002 (.Net for develosper) and didn't work
    - Patch KB907417 (office 2003 for client). Didn't work too.
I changed to a vitual machine with Windows XP and Office 2007. Everything is working just fine.
I think the problem with Publisher Desktop 10.1.3.2.1 (connection with BI Publisher) has to do with Windows Vista or Office 2003 (both installed on my pc). I'll install Office 2007 on Vista and see what happens.
    I'll post results.

  • TC as a brigdge to extend internet sharing from Imac

Hello, can somebody give me a hand on a proper config for time capsule + Imac.
My setup is: 3G Huawei modem/router - wi-fi (g) network - Imac Airport- internet sharing (airport to ethernet) - ethernet cable to TC WAN port (TC in a bridge mode) - time capsule wi-fi (n) network.
All seems to be functioning well, and I can access second (n) network from Ipad, Iphone, Apple TV2 etc.
The final goal of this setup is to block with MAC filter on Huawei router I-net access for Apple TV while keeping an access for Apple TV to my libpary (photo/music) on Imac. The reason to do so is very simple - I have very limited data plan/speed from internet provider and I don't need neither youtube or anything from internet to hungry Apple TV (automaticaly eating lot's of data even refreshing covers etc and there is no way to turn it off even with parential control) I've puted MAC address in Huawei filter but Apple TV still accessing I-net. Looks like it using TC router and I can't turn it off to force using Huawei router. Any thought? Thank you

Well, if there's anyone else with this problem, I have an update:
    1. After some reboots, for reasons unknown, the G5 started to connect.
    2. However, it would only connect to an unencrypted network from the iMac. When I tried to change to an encrypted network, it wouldn't connect. Nor would it work when I switched back to an unencrypted one!
    3. I then tried the following, from another site:
Start Internet Sharing if it's not already running.
In Terminal, type cp /etc/bootpd.plist /tmp/bootpd.plist
    Stop Internet Sharing.
Open "open -e /tmp/bootpd.plist" for editing using TextEdit or whatever.
Locate this section of the file, near the end:
    <key>replythresholdseconds</key>
    <integer>4</integer>
Change the value 4 to 0.
In Terminal, type sudo cp /tmp/bootpd.plist /etc
    Start Internet Sharing.
If you want to, check that your change to /etc/bootpd.plist hasn't been reverted.

    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.p...ery=xbox%2B360
    4. It worked. Now the G5 will connect to an encrypted Internet Sharing network from the iMac. Not only that, my iPad, which previously would not connect to an encrypted network from the iMac, will do so as well.
Hope no one else is as frustrated as I was!

  • MacoBook Pro connecting wirelessly via Personal Web Sharing from iMac G5

Subject line says it all... more specifically my problem is that some things seem "blocked" on the MBP when i'm connecting wirelessly via my iMac network, but then are 100% functional when I use other wireless networks.
    examples:
    • gmail via Mail.app [mailbox always has the ! symbol and says it's timed out]
    • playing app-based online games, certian functions will not work
    • using FTP software, it won't connect
Maybe this an issue I can fix with port forwarding, if so how do I go about doing this? I was told my iMac is technically acting as a router, but I don't have a lot of experience with this type of networking. Thanks!
    iMac G5 2GHz • 15" MacBook Pro 2GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Personal Web Sharing can be a bit tricky and yes, it's because of the firewall on the Mac that's sharing its connection.
The actual firewall software in the Mac is completely configurable, but the friendly user interface doesn't support the more sophisticated configurations. Fancier setups would require the use of commandline scripts run from Terminal.
You'll save yourself a lot of headaches if you buy a wireless base station, and forget about using Personal Web Sharing. A $60 Linksys will do the job nicely.

  • Sharing from imac to windows laptop

I have 2 canon printers first is i990 second is ip1000
they are both running in to the mac printing no problem
they are set to share out I have a windows xp laptop which finds the printer when I try to set it up but when I tell it to print it says its printing but nothing happens.

On OS X, a print queue (a printer in the printer list is a "queue") expects to receive postscript input. When you print from Windows, it doesn't send postscript. One way around this is to use a postscript driver on Windows. Choose Apple Color LaserWriter xx, for example. Then it will send postscript to the Mac where it will be translated for the printer.
A different approach is to create a "raw" queue on the Mac - a queue that does no translation and passes input to output. I have instructions if you want to try that. (That way you can use the real driver on the PC)

  • I'm Unable to 'double click' when screen sharing from iMac to MBP

I want to use my new iMac to display the Macbooks screen but the double click doesn't seem to work ( most of the time ) !
I set up realVNC client on the iMac as well and the same problem happens, I can connect OK to windows hosts and can double click OK. This is a really odd problem it must be related to the VNC server built into OSX, is there a better/less buggy one that's free to use and easy enough to install ? I've never actually tried VNC to my MBP before.. I've recently started using the Remote desktop client from m$ too which seems OK
I've also managed to get Virtual box to reproducible hang my entire system, I thought thte iMac had overheated and shut down at first, the top gets pretty warm.
I am in love with this thing, 4 cores are definitively better than 2 !
    Simon

I believe I may have fixed this. My wireless router kept on needing resets so I changed its 'channel' to Auto from hard set to 10 ( default setting infact ;0) )..
Since I did that, the Doubleclick on VNC to MBP is working now and no more WIFI router reboots since. I Don't know if this is related to the new iMac on the net seems like a weird coincidence though if not. I can't really think of the reason for this BTW..

  • Apple Magic Mouse from iMac to PC

Hi there! I'm going to purchase new iMac 2011, but for the first week or two I can't use it for some reason (it's a present and I don't wanna show it). But I got my PC mouse broken so can I use iMac's magic mouse with my PC somehow?

I don't think it will work, here is what Apple says it's requirements are:
    System Requirements
Mac computer with Bluetooth wireless technology
OS X v10.5.8 or later with Wireless Mouse Software Update 1.0* or OS X v10.6.1 or later with Wireless Mouse Software Update 1.0
Existing keyboard and mouse for setup
    Two AA batteries (included)

  • Can't load photos into iCloud photo stream for sharing (from iMac)

In iPhoto, I select an event, hit "Share >> iCloud",  then "add new stream", then get the dialog box, then enter a friend's email, then hit "share". then get message "xx photos were posted". But when I look at my iCloud there is only an empty data stream (correct title but zero photos).

Where are you looking at the stream? On the same mac or on an iOS device?  Do you see the shared photos in the iCloud section in the iPhoto library? Is your Wi-Fi working correctly?
Can it be, that you have hit one of the sharing limits?

  • HT200153 I have Apple TV, an Apple router and an iMac.  I rented a movie from Apple and downloaded it to my computer.  How do I get it to play on my TV?

As I stated above:  I have an Apple TV, an Apple Router and an iMac.  I downloaded a movie I rented from the Apple store.  I downloaded it to my computer.  How do I get it to play on the TV?

Two ways.  The easiest is to play it through the purchased items on Apple TV.  The second way is to play through home sharing from iTunes on your computer by clicking on the Computers icon on the Apple TV.
    Have a nice day.

  • Messages not working while using Internet sharing from my iMac ... Any troubleshooting tips/approaches ?

I am connecting to the internet using the Internet Sharing from my iMac ...
The trouble is the messages in the Messages app are not sent when I am connected through my iMac ... When I key in a message and hit send a progress bar appears fills up till 90% and just gets stuck there and after a while the red exclamation mark stating the message was not sent appears ... Now if I connect through my wi-fi router or thether through my phone it works fine ... I can send / recieve messages ...
Similar points to note - Today when I tried to make an App Purchase - The security info screen ( new additon - http://isource.com/2012/04/11/iphone-app-store-security-info-alert/ ) popped up but I got a blank screen for the securtiy questions screen ... It was not loading the screen ... Some games the game center invite does not work through my Internet sharing (tried in MetalStorm) ... but works fine thorough wi-fi or thether ...
What could be the problem with my iMac s sharing? Any suggestions would be really useful ///  Thanx in advance
I am running Lion ... and I have updated to the latest Airport software ...
Only thing I tried was changing the DNS ... but that s not related right ?

Powerline adapters use your home powerlines (mains a/c) to connect your devices via ethernet to your modem, they're easy to set up and the they TOTALLY fixed my ATV problem, the problem seems to be with the wireless. I've been trawling through apple discussions, and did found a workaround to my problem https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4222883?start=0&tstart=0
but its just a workaround :/

  • Have an iMac Early 2008 + Windows 7 and no sound from speaker out? SOLVED!!

    Hello everyone,
So I'm pleased to say after over a month of trying to solve this annoying problem, it's been solved! Basically, if you have an iMac, Early 2008 edition (8,1) and Windows 7 and notice that the default microsoft driver gives very low sound and the new realtek drivers only give sound through the internal speakers... then this solution is for you!
    What you'll need:
    7-zip (www.7-zip.com)
Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard Disc 1 (NOT Snow Leopard!)
Here's what you'll need to do, step by step:
    1) Uninstall the Realtek Driver (latest version currently 2.37) by going to Control Panel / Programs / Uninstall Programs.
    2) Reboot. Upon reboot, the system will automatically reinstall the default Microsoft drivers. You can check this in Device Manager (control panel / system / device manager).
    3) Insert the original Leopard Disc 1 that came with your iMac (very important, as this is the only driver I know for sure will work). Point windows explorer to the folder: D:\Boot Camp\Drivers (assuming d: is your cd-rom drive).
    4) Copy the "RealTekSetup.exe" file somewhere on your desktop. Do NOT install it!
    5) Decompress "RealTekSetup.exe" by right clicking the file and choosing "7-zip decompress". Again, you'll need to make sure you installed 7-zip from 7zip.com prior to doing this.
    6) Go to your Device Manager again, right click the sound device (which should be something like High Definition Audio) and choose "Update Device Software".
    7) Select "Browse my computer for driver software" and direct it to the folder that you extracted the drivers to.
    8) You now have sound through your EXTERNAL SPEAKERS!
This works because there is a bug that RealTek/Apple does not seem to want to fix where the newer version of the RealTek control panel detects the speaker out as line in and the line in as nothing! This forces drivers normally made for Vista or Vista64 to install on Windows 7, which work 100% great.
I promise you, if you have an Early 2008 iMac, this WILL fix your problem if you follow each step! Let me know if you have any questions!
    Brad Levicoff

If you don't have any Leopard disk then just google for "Vista_R199.exe".
This driver works nice on Early 2008 IMAC. I also tried an earlier version, Vista_R182.exe but there sometimes was a horrible background noise which made listening to music impossible.
Just download and follow the instructions above in the first post.
    Have fun.

  • How to play itunes music library from iMac using apple remote? Can only use my iPhone as a REMOTE to play on itunes to Apple TV!!

how can i how can I play itunes library on my IPHONE4 from IMAC using APPLE REMOTE? I can only use my iPhone 4 as a REMOTE to play itunes from IMac to APPLE TV.

You cannot.  The remote app is exclusively for remotely controlling an apple tv for playback of a library on your computer.  If you want to play your computer's music on your iPhone you just use home sharing on both devices and play the music in the Music app on your phone, not using the Remote app on your phone.

    Hey everyone,
I have a new 2011 MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard (10.6.7) and an iMac G4 running Panther (10.3.9).
The iMac doesn't have an AirPort card and the easiest way to get internet on it seems to be Internet Sharing.
I want to setup Internet Sharing from the MBP's Airport via ethernet to the iMac's ethernet, but am having trouble configuring the IP addresses etc to get the iMac to comply.
