Apple TV Showing imported movies in podcast directory

When I am working on a video project at the end of the day I export my rough cuts to an mp4 format then import to my iphone through Itunes to watch and make notes on during the commute home. Sometimes I can watch on my laptop by usually there is no room so my iphone gets more use. When I get home and try to watch the video through my AppleTV, the files are listed correctly in the movies directory and works great.
The issues is when I then enter my podcast directory through Apple TV, all the video files I imported are also there but listed as unknown. So I will have a listing Diggnation, TRS, then 80 files of unkown. You can watch the file and everything in that regards works.
How can I prevent the mp4 files I import from showing up in my podcast directory?

are they also showing up in the podcasts section of itunes ?
it's possible that it is a tagging issue, check what the "video type" of the file(s) are.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions and help.  Ended up logging out of my apple ID account.  Of note, when I did I did a quick test and checked out both the movies and tv show options, and it all worked perfectly.  I then logged back in, and now all my purchased and rentals are available which makes sense.  I guess with the update there was some weird bit of trons that required one to log out then back in.  Probably doing a rest in between may not hurt for some.  Thanks again for all the assistance. Cheers.
It looks like there is a Apple doc for this problem here -> Apple TV: Unable to access Movies, TV Shows, or other iTunes features after updating

  • Podcast imports into iTunes & Podcast Directory

I have a 30GB iPod and have no trouble with podcasts from the iTunes Store (7.0.2.16). With podcasts downloaded from places other than the iTunes Store is where the problem comes in. I can get these MP3 podcasts into the music directory in iTunes, and the music directory on the iPod, without a problem but I have been totally unable to get these non-iTunes Store podcasts into the Podcast directory on either iTunes or the iPod.
Can I import non-iTunes Store podcasts into the Podcast directory in iTunes and the iPod? I am set to manually manage music and podcasts with selective update for the podcasts subscriptions.

    Hope this helps!
Well I have had this problem once myself and i figured out that you have to convert the podcast to a certain form compatible with your ipod/itunes. All you have to do is right click on it and choose convert selection to ipod. Sometimes it will manually do it though when you click and drag your podcast onto your library. I have had podcast before though that will absoulutly not convert therefore you can not use them on your ipod. Like I said I hope this helps, good luck!

  • Why does Events Library sometimes fail to show imported movies ?

I have just imported 23 long movies into iMovie and saved them on a new external WD hard disk.
Two of them fail to appear in the events window (time line) screen. "Message No matching Video"
The items in question are on the external drive and can be accessed directly but not via iMovie.
What am I doing wrong? I am new to this game.

iI move the folder into trash, empty the trash, 'bingo' the file reappears in its original location (in the events library)... Thanks all the same, I would like to find a better way of deleting folders and files.
The idea here is to force iMovie '08 to re-thumbnail/cache the source files (which are not trashed) the next time the application opens. In cases where the supporting thumbnail/cache file was created with corruptions, this work flow often works by creating uncorrupted files which then display properly in the iMovie '08 Event Window. Basically, iMovie '08 scans all Event Folders each time the application starts up. If it finds any files are missing, it re-creates them automatically and hopefully gets them right the second time around. If it doesn't, then you can always fall back on trying to re-import the original files from the camcorder.

  • In the Movie/Podcast menu on my 3rd Gen AppleTV how do you reset the "Unwatched" menu to "Movies or "Podcasts"?

On my 3rd Generation AppleTV, in the Movie and Podcast Menus, the menus read "Unwatched", "Genres" and "Name". How do I change the "Unwatched" to "Movies" and "Podcasts".
    Thanks...

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Since Movies and Podcasts are not options to change to, I assume you mean change unwatched to by name or genre.
You need to keep scrolling up until the menu options are highlighted then use the left and right arrows to change selection.

  • Possible to move iTunes 'Music'... but not 'Podcasts, TV Shows, or Movies'

I currently have an enormous iTunes library. I have about 1 TB of movies which is currently stored on its own hard drive separate from any of my other iTunes media (I'll refer to this drive as "Drive X" from here on out).
Aside from these movies, the rest of my iTunes media (which includes Podcasts, TV Shows, and Music) is currently being stored on a different external hard drive (henceforth referred to as "Drive Y"). "Drive Y" is is also the location of my my iTunes Music Folder (as specified in the iTunes application preferences)
I have about 20 GB worth of music, which is not really that much, and I would like to move this music back into my 'User>Home>Music' folder on my primary internal drive...My reasoning? - I've started using an online backup/synchronization service called SugarSync, which I was hoping to use to do two main things:
    1) Create an online backup of my music, and...
    2) To allow me to stream this online backed-up music to my iPhone wirelessly, which is one of the services that they offer...
    http://www.sugarsync.com/products/syncmusicphotos.html
One of the unfortunate downsides of SugarSync is that it's only capable of syncing files that reside inside of the User>Home directory... thus, my rational for wanting to move just my 'Music' to my User>Home>Music directory, and not my Podcasts, TV Shows, or Movies.
My goal here would be to do so while somehow leaving my TV Shows and Podcasts (which have an accumulated size of about 200GB) on "Drive Y" and leaving my Movies on "Drive X".
Is such a thing possible (without losing all of iTunes' track specific metadata, such as playcount, etc, etc...
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated... Thanks!
+FYI: just for reference, I am using iTunes v8.0)+

    Update:
Still having issues getting new videos to show in the "Movies" or "TV Shows" categories of iTunes. However, last night I discovered that Home Sharing on my iPad lists the newly imported videos in the Movies category (iPad & Video app). So, the files aren't corrupt or anything like that. It just seems like I need to 'refresh' the Movies page. Is that possible?
Since I can see the files on the iPad now, I want to remove the extra copies of movies I imported. But, since I can only find them in Playlists, how can I delete them?

  • IMovie 9 - imported movie shows black in preview pane

Hey everyone, first time posting here.
Here's my issue. I have been working on a project for over a week now and have imported over 30 big files without any problems. Once I imported a file, I would select the footage I needed and add the selections to the top left window for editing. Everytime I would add new selections to my project, I would edit and preview in the top right pane without any problems. But since yesterday, none of my footage is viewable in the preview AND the event panes. In other words, everything I have imported/selected/edited is there, but it's all black (I can't say for audio, 'cause it's a silent movie). However, in the project (top left) pane, all of my thumbnails show the image (not black) and I can even see that the footage is there and working when I hit the spacebar. I have tried exporting the movie to see if it was just a problem with my preview and event panes, but the exported movie also shows everything black. There are text frame and pictures in my project, and these show just fine.
All of the imported files are in the Movie/iMovie Events/"Title of event" folder with a .mov extension.
Help!? (keep in mind that I'm somewhat of a newbie to this. I'm not an incompetent, but definitely not a IT wizard... )

I am guessing that these are big files that have been converted from something, maybe VHS or 8MM tape. If they were DV or HD from a modern camcorder, they would split into short clips naturally. Let me know if I am on the right track.
OK there are three ways to do this depending on what you are after.
    1) Option 1, get the three minutes I need into iMovie right now, and worry about the rest later
    2) Option 2, get all the clips into iMovie right now. I'll pick the 3 minutes later
    3) Option 3, Split all the clips into shorter clips so I can put them into real logical events. In other words, you have an hour long clip from a VHS tape, but you want to split it into the logical events that are contained in the clip.
    Option 1)
There is a free tool called MPEG Streamclip. Download it here. The Beta version is very stable, so I recommend that. http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
    Close iMovie.
Go to the Finder. Find your iMovie Events folder. I am assuming that your 17 hours of footage are on an external hard drive, so they would be in the iMovie Events/"your event name" folder at the top level of the drive. If they are still on your internal drive, they are in the Movies/iMovie Events/"your event name" folder.
Drag the first long clip into MPEG Streamclip. Move the playhead to the start of the bit that you need from this clip, and press i for in point. Then move the playhead to the end of the bit that you need and press o for out point.
Finally, use FILE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME to export it out in the same format it currently is. Or better yet, export it out as Apple Intermediate Codec.  HOWEVER, if your large files are DV, you will want to keep them as DV. You can do this by using FILE/EXPORT TO DV.  This will give you a short clip of just what you need. Repeat this for all your 30 clips. Then import these short clips into an Event in iMovie, using FILE/IMPORT MOVIES.
Also, in this option, I would move the original event file (the huge one) to another folder on the same drive. For example call it "Original clips". This way, iMovie will not think it is an event, and will choke on trying to load it.
    Option 2)
    Close iMovie.
Go to the Finder. Find your iMovie Events folder. I am assuming that your 17 hours of footage are on an external hard drive, so they would be in the iMovie Events/"your event name" folder at the top level of the drive. If they are still on your internal drive, they are in the Movies/iMovie Events/"your event name" folder.
You will want to make 30 (or so) new folders within the iMovie Events folder. Give them each a name of your choice, for example call them Tape 1, Tape 2, etc. Anything that makes sense to you.
Now go back to the original folder that contains the 30 big clips. You will want to move each of these into one of these new folders by dragging.
The only thing left in the old folder should be some folders called Cache, Thumbnails, and maybe Analysis. You can move these to the trash.
Now restart iMovie. iMovie should see these new Events and start creating thumbnails. This could take a while. Let it run. Now you can edit.
    Option 3)
You will use MPEG Streamclip, just as in option 1, but now, instead of just picking out the portion you will use immediately, you will position the playhead to the beginning of a logical clip and press i, then move the playhead to the ending of the logical clip, and press o. Then use FILE/EXPORT TO DV or FILE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME and repeat until you have them all. Your logical clips could either be at the Event level. (You would set the in point and the beginning of the Christmas footage, and then set the out point where the Christmas footage ends.) Or they could be individual scenes within the logical event. It can be anything your want.  To use another example, if your 17 hours of footage was of football games, you could set the in and out points corresponding to the quarter of the game, or you could set them for each play. Whatever will make it easier for you later.
Finally, in option 3, you have an opportunity to name your clips so they will be easy to find, and so they will automatically be placed into the right year in the Event Library. As you name each clip, give it a name in this format:
    clip-yyyy-mm-dd hh;mm;ss.ext
where clip must be lower case
hh is hours in 24 hour time
ext is the current extension (e.g. mov or dv). MPEG Streamclip should assign this automatically according to your settings.
You should now have separated all the clips from this one large clip. You can place them in logical event folders within the iMovie Events folder. For example, Christmas 1960, or Football Homecoming Game, whatever makes sense.
Now do the second large clip the same way, until all are done.
Restart iMovie and it will generate thumbnails.
That gets us through the three options.
I would strongly recommend that whichever option you choose, you do a test of it all the way through your workflow so that you understand it before doing all 17 hours of footage.
I wrote this quickly so it may be hard to follow. Do not hesitate to ask questions if something is not making sense.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The Apple TV should set it's time automatically from the network time server, if it isn't doing this try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for a 30 seconds, if this fails try resetting or restoring it.

  • Apple TV will stream music but will not connect to iTunes library to stream movies or podcasts.  During the unsuccessful connection process, iTunes becomes unresponsive and must be forced to quit.

Apple TV 3 will stream music via Home Sharing from iTunes on Mac running 10.6.8 but will not connect to iTunes library to stream movies or podcasts.  When trying to connect, iTunes becomes unresponsive and must be forced to quit.  ATV will stream movies purchased through the ATV but not those purchased through or ripped/copied onto the Mac.  I've tried fixes suggested for similar problems (rebooting ATV and Mac, signing out then back into iTunes Store) to no success.  Any suggestions will be appreciated.

This is the most bogus example of Apple rip-off EVER.  They do not advertise this *feature* and yet expect people to invest in an Apple ECOSYSTEM?  My experience with Apple TV using a central media "server" (a dedicated Mac Mini) has been atrocious.  I continually get "Cannot connect..." messages and with typical Apple "it just works" mentality, there is no reason stated.  I HATE APPLE TV and I HATE APPLE.  Peddle your crapple somewhere else.

  • Apple TV to display Movie Poster sized TV Show Art?

All of my TV Shows have movie poster sized artwork.  The Apple TV displays movie poster art for Movies, but it displays square CD-style artwork for TV Shows.
Is there any way to get the Apple TV to display movie poster sized artwork for TV Shows?
Since all my video artwork is movie poster sized, the Apple TV displays a cropped version which isn't that appealing

    No.
