Apple TV showing no signal strength

My appletv is showing no signal strength yet my internet is fine on all other devices. PLEASE HELP!!! I want to airplay yet the icon is not there and I think this is the result of the 0 signal strength.

That would be due to your local network. Make sure router is up to date. Go to istumbler (Mac) or netstumbler (PC) to get a report of your network and see if there's interference. If on wifi try ethernet.

I am about to go get my 4th iphone 4s since November!  Up in the left corner where it shows your signal strength, it goes into searching mode and stays there.  Kills my battery.  While in searching, no calls can be made/recieved, no internet, etc. This one has lasted the longest-I got it December 23.  Any ideas out there?

Both.  The first two, I did use my itunes.  The guy at the apple store said that could be the problem.  The last time they gave me a new phone and SIM card, and the tech said it wouldnt be the itunes.  Just to be safe, I never connected this phone to the itunes until last night-after it started searching- to save everything since I'm sure they will be replacing the phone today.  But hey, thanks for the suggestions.  I'm about at my wits end with Apple!!  Especially since i added a third line to my account just so I could get an iphone back.

  • My MacBook isn't connecting to the Internet. When I try to connect, it shows the signal strength in the top right corner as if it was connected, but the Internet doesn't work. When I go to my network preferences, it says the ip is self-assigned.

My MacBook won't connect to the Internet, but it's connected to my router. When I go to network preferences, it says that it has a self assigned ip address, and can't connect to the Internet. How can I fix this? Please help!

First thing you need I think is to get your iMac connected to the Internet.
Shut down your iMac and you iPad. Then power off your router. Wait 30 seconds and power up the router.
After the router indicates that it is connected to the Internet then start up your iMac and see if it connects. If the iMac connects to the Internet then your iPad should too.
If this power up sequence doesn't work you'll have to dig into the router setup to make sure it is working properly.

  • HT1424 when i connect to a vpn on my ipod touch it says no internet even though my signal strength is full

i setup a vpn on my home network recently but when i am connected to it my ipod shows full signal strength but when i try to use the internet it says i have no connection why would it do this?

    See:
iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim
One user reported that placing the iPod in the freezer fixed the problem.
If not successful, an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is usually in order.

  • Airport Indicator Shows No Signal on MBP

    Hi,
I'm using AirPort Extreme with my MBP and for some reason the little indicator on my screen shows no signal strength. When I right click on the indicator it says "AirPort Not Configured." However, I'm able to connect to the internet with no problem. Anyone know how to correct this problem?
I'm running the latest version of Leopard.
    Many thanks!

Is this the adapter that you have to plug in an HDMI cable, as well, as a connection for your iPad's charge cable?
If yes, try plugging in your iPad's charger cable and power/charging block into power while having the cable connected up to your iPad. See if this works with your TV then,
If still no joy, try unplugging and replugging the connector at the iPad to see if this works.
If STILL no joy, leave the cables plugged in and do a hard reset of your iPad by holding down together the iPad's Home button and Sleep button until your iPad screen goes dark bad boots up with the Apple logo, then let go of the buttons.
Also, what video apps are you trying to watch from your iPad to the TV?

  • 2010 11.6" MBA, connects to wifi, full signal strength, barely works

I'm staying in a hotel with unencrypted wifi. I know the wifi works fine because my iPhone connects to it and it's great--very snappy, great download speeds, etc.
My MacBook Air finds the wifi router instantly, connects to it without any problems, shows full signal strength, and works horribly.
Basically there's a huge delay when doing anything. Downloading the simplest web page or email takes anywhere from 5 seconds, to 60 seconds, to never. Looking at Activity Monitor, I am never able to download more than 10-20 kilobytes per second. I have moved the MacBook all around the hotel room, changed its screen angle, etc. in hopes of finding a better position for reception with no luck.
Meanwhile there's no delay doing anything with my iPhone in any position from anywhere in the room (connecting to the same router of course) and it is always able to download files at over 200 kilobytes per second.
I should also mention that the MacBook works fine with my router at home and in the hotel lobby.
Any idea what gives, and/or how to fix it? Much appreciated in advance!!

  • Unable to connect to Fon when signal strength is l...

Hi. I am new and this is my first post, so please be gentle with me.
I signed up to BT so that I could make use of the mobile WiFi from Fon & Openzone while away in my motorhome. If I get a realy strong signal I have no trouble using the service, however, if I am only showing a signal strength of say 50% I cannot sign up to use the service. Although I am quite happy to put up with a slow connection, I do not have that choice as I cannot get to the log-in page to sign in.
Am I doing something wrong or is there something I can do when this happens?

Not always the case John. A weak signal that is stable can and does work. I feel that the OP may in inside their motorhome (aluminium) which would affect the signal.....

    Hi Geoff and welcome
It should work at 50%. Are you using a laptop with a built in wifi card or a plug in USB wifi adapter?
Via a built in card - If the signal drops have you tried sitting near a window or an open door to rule out your motorhome itself from degrading the signal.
USB adapter - Have you tried using a USB extension lead(s) that you can fix the adapter in a window to maximise the signal strength.
Clearly in both cases you would need to be facing the direction of the signal.

  • Airport signal strength seems way too low...possible for antenna to break?

    Hi,
I have a 17" aluminum Powerbook 1.33Ghz that came with built in Airport. I use it on wireless networks both at home and at work. In recent weeks, it's seemed like my connection drops a lot or I have a hard time getting a solid signal.
Right now at work I'm sitting about 15 feet and through a sheetrock wall from a Cisco Aironet 1200 wireless access point, which I understand to be a quality item...MacStumbler is showing a signal strength in the low 20s, but can sometimes jump up to around 50. It seems like the Airport menubar icon used to always show full strength at work, but lately usually shows 2-3 bars.
At home I get a signal strength in the 30s when parked right next to my Airport Extreme, and have trouble losing connection in other parts of the house. An older Powerbook one floor above gets a signal strength in the 60s.
    I'm considering the following options:
    (a) Take Powerbook apart and see if the antenna has somehow become detached from the Airport card.
    (b) Buy an upgraded antenna for the Powerbook from QuickerTek.com
    (c) Open an AppleCare ticket, but I hate to send the PB to Texas even for a few days.
or is there something else I should be doing? or is this normal?

From reading your post it sounds like Interference.
In a commercial building you will find that the Metal Studs used in the construction, will and can Interfere, not to mention Metal Bookcases. Just about anything metal.
    http://www.wi-fiplanet.com/tutorials/article.php/1497111
    Note the 3rd paragrapgh
This of course doesn't rule out that you could have a loose Antenna connection, or your Airport Extreme Card could have become unseated, or loose as well.
Remember the use of microwave, wireless phones and any number of other things can cause Interference.
    Cheers Don

  • C3-01 signal strength problem.....

C3-01  Does not capture signals as other phones do,this model shows poor signal strength all time..i am using lattest  6.05 Version..

We are business users and have 3 of these phones. I find it hard to beleive the signal strength is so poor on a service such as Vodafone in 3 different city centre locations throughout the UK. The hand sets are only 4 months old, so is there a known design flaw?

  • Iphone in Great Britian discovers Apple tech problem - Signal Strength -

    November 25, 2007
    Signal trouble: British iPhone mystery
Is O2’s network to blame, or Apple’s (AAPL) iPhone?
That’s the question posed by more than a few British iPhone owners who purchased the device in the past two weeks and have been struggling ever since to get decent telephone reception on it.
The problem surfaced two days after the phone went on sale in the U.K. when “Matlock” in Derbyshire started a discussion thread on Apple’s support board entitled “UK 02 (poor signal strength/reception problems)”:
My iphone can barely pick up even the slightest signal, although on occasion can pick up 3 ars, only for it to drop out again. I have two other 02 phones, a Sony Erricson and a Nokia n95 with no reception problems at all. Is anyone experiencing same problem with their iphone, I would like to hear from you. (link)
Two weeks later, Matlock’s query has received more than 100 replies (and 3,723 pageviews), most of them registering similar complaints. Some users found that reinstalling the software made a difference. When others returned their phones for new ones, the problem went away (although some reported that the new phones were no better).
Definitive U.K. sales figures are not available, but O2 reported that it sold “tens of thousands” of iPhones the first weekend it was available.
Several posters on the Apple discussion board volunteered that unlike the complainants, they were getting great reception on their iPhones. And many owners with signal problems expressed pleasure with how well the device performed its other functions.
But unlike American iPhone owners, who tend to blame any reception headaches on AT&T’s (T) cellular network, the assumption in the U.K. seems to be that the signal problem is Apple’s. The impression is reinforced by O2, which has been referring callers directly to the manufacturer.
One clue is that many British iPhone owners can, like Matlock, compare the signal strength on their iPhone with other cellphones using the same network (one user even posted photos showing the phones side by side). Another is that the indicator on the iPhone tends to jump to five bars as soon as it is placed in the charging dock, which suggests that the problem is battery related. As user Richard Catledge points out:
It says in the manual that phone signal is adjusted to the minimum power when not in use, just enough to detect the incoming pings, then it will power up to get the best quality call. It is digital, so as long as the signal power is strong enough to reconstruct at the other end, more power is pointless. I suspect this is what you are seeing, or a slightly flakey implementation.
Meanwhile, the consensus on the discussion board is that unhappy owners should let Apple know. Writes one user who posts as ::…SAM…::,
The only way to get anything done about it is if people that have poor signal problems is to take your phone back and get it replaced. The more phones they get back, the sooner they will do something to fix the problem. Emails and complaints are fine, they can be put in a folder, high handset return numbers cant be so easy to hide under the rug.
Thanks to InformationWeek’s Alexander Wolfe for the link. See his report here.

Interesting post. My previous phone was an 02 XDA Exec, a smart phone based upon a common handset (forget which one), but the smart phone before that was the same. They all had one thing in common - poor reception.
tbh, I think its an inherent problem with smart phones. However, with my iPhone I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary really. Its better than the XDA, at least the iPhone doesn't drop out completely!
But compare it to a normal handset and the normal handset will normally have a much better reception strength.

  • Status bar shows "iPad" instead of signal strength

my ipad shows "iPad" in the status bar area where you would usually see signal strength/wifi/3G. I cannot get the 3G or wifi to connect. any suggestions?

    Hi,
If 3G and WI FI are enabled, and you are still having problems, tap Settings / General / Reset / Reset Network Settings.
Then restart your iPad. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPad. To turn iPad back on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears.
See if that makes a difference.
Make sure Restrictions is turned off. Settings / General / Restrictions.

  • TS3623 I cannot activate my 3rd gn AppleTV due to NetworkTime problems, what is that? I am able to mirror fine. And my network read shows that I am accessing my network, with good signal strength, but the net work time has stopped me cold.

I am able to mirror fine, but that limits me, my wifi extend only to airplay, my ipad, my iphone, but not the store, or netflix Network stats are good, and signal strength excellent, but due to the problem of failing to  set my Network time no activation. I have unplugged and replugged so many times my i need to see a chiropractor. What gives, I have seen this question on the forums but no diffinative answer. HELP!! —Bob

Try a reset or restore if you can get to that.  I found when trying to use a wired ethernet setup (which wouldn't work but that is another story) that I couldn't even get to the menus without the atv3 wanting to connect with apple for the time.  When I went back to wireless, I got the tome sync to let me get to the menus but then an apple rep had me restore or reboot (I forgot which sorry) and then I finally got my wired connection to work.  That is, until tonight and I am having to download the 4 hour update.  Download to what, I don't know.
