Apple TV shuts off inadvertently

TV reboots and can only use with music option. If I try using one of the other apps, it just shuts down and reboots.

Thanks Rudegar.  To be honest i kind of dismissed your reply at first because this seems to be a common problem that goes way beyond the power issue. I tried the optical audio solution etc and turned a Setting called anynet off on my tv in hopes that would solve the issue.... None of it made sense though.  I could think of no way that the tv could cut power to certain devices connected to my receiver and not others.... So i read your response again, and looked at the surge protector im using and low and behold the apple tv was plugged into a grouping of " greenpower" outlets.  As soon as i plugged the apple tv into another outlet and saw the blinking light even though the tv was off i knew that had fixed it.... A little more testing and i dont even need to use the optical cable.  The hdmi works fine.  In short, Thanks!!!!!
That was driving me crazy!

If that works, then see if you can hook it up to your computer and have it show up in iTunes.

  • Apple blinks/shuts off

I have searched the forum and didn't find the same problem i had, only similar.
my ipod doesnt power on. when i reset the ipod the apple logo comes on for 10 seconds blinks and two seconds later powers off. i can hear the ipod shut down.
I am able to get it into disk mode where my pc can read the ipod i can do everything that is normal (add songs, play songs, change settings...)
After I saw that worked, i restored it. I pluggged into the wall charger, the bar came up, it loaded. then the apple showed up then shut down, with no new results.
has anybody had this problem before with a fix? thanks for any help or advice.
    steven

The power buttons seems like it is fine. The rest of your problems, ie not Restoring is a very bad sign. Make Genius reservation and take iPhone to Apple or take receipt, box and everything in it back to where you bought it.

    Hello JPhardboiled,
To save battery power, the camera turns off automatically after 1 minute of non-operation. To turn on the camera again, just press the shutter button halfway. You can change the auto power-off time with [: Auto power off] Setting the Power-off Time/Auto Power Off To save battery power, the camera turns off automatically after a set time of idle operation elapses. If you do not want the camera to turn off automatically, set this to [Disable]. After the power turns off, you can turn on the camera again by pressing the shutter button or other buttons.1 Select [Auto power off]. Under the [] tab, select [Auto power off], then press <>.2 Set the desired time. Select the desired setting, then press <>.
Even if [Disable] is set, the LCD monitor will turn off automatically after 30 min. to save power. (The camera’s power does not turn off.)

  • My Apple TV shuts off in the middle of a show/movie

I have checked the connection, updates, sleep time...everything I can think of that would lead to this discussion.
I am close to getting rid of it and getting a Roku.
    Someone help please!

I am experiencing the same problem. This has been happening for the last two weeks. It's very frustrating. I can't get through a show on Hulu or Netflix without my Apple TV (gen 2) freezing and restarting. While I am watching a show the screen goes black, the indicator light in the front of the Apple TV starts blinking, a circle of white bars flashes on my TV, and the the Apple TV starts up again at the main menu. I have unplugged my Apple TV and replugged it, but the problem persists.

  • Ipod Touch shows apple then turns off

so here it is, my ipod touch died and so I tried to connect it to the computer Via USB. It showed the apple then shut off and it keeps doing it... It also doesn't show up in "my computer" and a device... Please someone help!!

Let me try to go into more detail.
My Touch is dead. When I turn it on it shows the "connect to charge" screen then turns off. I connect it to my computer and it shows the "thunder bolt" screen. The changes to the Apple as if its trying to turn on then instead of turning on, it shuts off and repeats...
It doesn't even show up as an external device. I tried all those things and didn't work...

My iPhone 3Gs randomly shutting off at any given moment. I could be in the middle of a text, a call, or doing some games and it'll just shut off.
Now here's the unique part. When I go to turn it back on, the apple loading screen pops up but it takes somewhere from 3-5 minutes for it to boot up. Then the lock screen with the time and whatnot shows up. From this point on, my iPhone has a chance to shut itself back down and I have to repeat the process over and over again. Most of the time the lock screen flashes and then goes straight to black (shut down) but sometimes I can make it a few menus before it shuts itself down.
The only way to keep the iPhone on is to plug it into a charger of any sort. I'm fairly certain it isn't a battery charge issue because this happens at any % of power and sometimes my iPhone can use up all of its charge and not have this happen while other times I can be at 90-100% and it could randomly shut itself down. What can I do in this situation if some has some solution to this problem please let me know on [email protected] Thanks!

Not sure if this Term is Relevant towards an iPhone but, my iPhone won't Post unless if it's plugged into a Charger.

  • I'm having issues booting up my MacBook Pro. When I turn it on, I get the sound and the apple logo with the spinning wheel, then a loading bar appears, then after about 30 seconds it shuts off. Suggestions?

I believe it's OSX 10.7.5 or .4, can't check now. I'm not able to boot up past the login screen. A bar comes up below the apple logo as if it's installing an apple update, but doesn't make any progress. Eventually, the bar goes away and just the apple logo and spinning wheel are there, then it just shuts off soon after. I've tried holding shift key on power up to enter safe mode, but nothing happens.  Any help/ suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You can't backup without booting the computer unless you remove the drive. But it may be you have a more serious hardware problem, so I think you may be better off taking it in for service.
But here's what you might try since you now have an external drive.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Lion/Mountain Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your drive's main entry (topmost one) and click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. This will fix the boot block if it's damaged. Next, select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button.
If you have no problems with the above, then quit DU and return to the Main Menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu. See if the computer will boot properly.
If you get this far you should backup the drive ASAP. You will need to prepare your external drive:
    Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Steps 4-6 are optional but should be used on a drive that has never been formatted before, if the format type is not Mac OS Extended, if the partition scheme has been changed, or if a different operating system (not OS X) has been installed on the drive.

  • HT201412 ok i did the new update and now my phone wont even start up! the apple logo comes up then the screen will flash and the phone will shut off. any ideas?

as listed in the title, my phone just flashes on me no start up just flashes from the apple logo to shutting off and back and forth i did the update this afternoon (9-26-2012) and it still wont start up!!!

Something in your backup may be corrupt. Try wiping it and setting it up as a new device, then sync your apps, data and media back to it from iTunes. DO NOT resotre from your backup. If the problem is contained in the backup, it will bring it right back again if you restore.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

Its been like this for awhile and I can not fix it

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My iPod wont turn on anymore. I have had my iPod since the end of January of 2012, Last night it shut off on me. It keeps trying to reboot itself, but all it does it show the apple symbol, then the screen goes white and reboots again. I need help. :(

    Hi, My name is Cassie.
I bought my iPod off of amazon just around the end of January of this year (2012). Last night I was playing around on my iPod. Listening to pandora, and editing pictures. I got to a picture and clicked edit, and then my iPod shut off. It rebooted itself and seemed to be running as if nothing had happened. I put my music back on and went back to the picture and tried to edit it again. I clicked the edit button and the ipod shut off again. This time, it kept rebooting. It went to the apple symbol to turn on and about thirty seconds, the time it normally takes to turn on, the whole screen went white and then shut off and tried rebooting again. It kept doing this over and over again. After a while, it did eventually stop, but only to a completely white screen. It was like that all night long because I fell asleep. (gave up on it). It is now the afternoon and after I held the lock button and the home button down the screen when off. I let it sit for about a half an hour, then I tried turning it on again. But it still is doing the same thing. I have no idea what I could have done to make it do this. Unfortunalty, I am not home to connect it to my own iTunes, but regaurdless, it wont even connect to the computer. I did have my ipod plugged in the whole time it was rebooting and shutting off last night. It was connected to my wall jack which normally works fine. But even having it plugged into the computer as it is now, its still doing the same thing. I am dissapointed that I might end up loosing everything that I have on it. I have not been able to sync it to my computer to save all the apps and pictures and music I have stored on it. I really do hope I can get some help or advice!
    Thank You!!
    -Cassie Lawrence
