Apple TV software upgrade

Apple TV ( latest ) Upgrading the software but appear to be stuck in a loop. Upgrade seemed to go through until I was invited to connect my box to a blue icon with a music note in it ( itunes ?) .It is now stuck with the white light flashing ! Help !

Just finally called Apple and talked with representative, very nice. Said she had been getting this question all day. She told me to connect a micro usb cable (don't have one, on my way to buy one) from apple tv to laptop and connect itunes. Needs to be factory reset and then start again. Hope this works. All I wanted was Apple Radio.

  • Strange trends in the latest Apple media software upgrades

I used to have chapter selection menu in previous versions of iTunes. Now in iTunes 9 all that is gone. How can I find specific chapters in 1 hour long audio book part if there is no chapter menu??? Previous/Next Chapter shortcuts are not the best solution here - I have to go through all chapters one by one, and listen their titles, to find what I'm looking for. Visual menu is soooo much faster - two clicks and I'm done. Who came up with this stupid "downgrade" idea to remove chapter menu? I really don't understand where Apple is steering to with its latest software upgrades… New QuickTime player doesn't play audio or video automatically when I open something in it, as old player used to do - there's even no preferences to enable this feature! Now I have to press Play button - every time I open something! Stupid. Now there is no chapter menu in iTunes anymore, apparently to make audiobook listening more complicated. WHY??? What software engineers at Apple are smoking? I have been Apple fan for years, but these latest developments are just plain stupid. Will Apple remove Previous and Next buttons and playlists as well? Maybe leave just one Play button? PLEASE THINK what you are doing!!!

It's sad that Apple didn't even bother to explain this in iTunes Help! I searched in iTunes Help before posting here, but there is NOTHING about audiobook chapters… Searching for "chapter" fetches two results: "Buying Audiobooks" and "Creating your own audio CDs".
OK, Chapter menu looks nice, it's good invention, but it's too well hidden (it appears only when you really play audiobook file) that only a few will notice it. I didn't! Apple had to keep old-style chapter menu where it was - it was advertised in Jobs' keynote and many people know where to look for it. Chapter menu in the menu bar is OK, but I still prefer the old style - chapter list in the iTunes info area in the toolbar as soon as I play audiobook file. Otherwise soon you'll never know in which corner to look. Controls are all around iTunes. Some in the menu bar, some in the toolbar, some in the status bar, some in the info display in the center or the toolbar... It's getting messy.

  • Epson printer software upgrade

After installing Apple's software upgrade 2.18, I can no longer print.  Any suggestions?

    Hi Cricket1949,
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you just installed new print drivers and can't print, try resetting the print system to "start fresh" with the new drivers.
Mac OS X 10.6: Resetting the printing system
If you can’t print to your printer and you’ve tried all other solutions, reset the printing system. This process deletes all printers from your list of printers, deletes information about all completed print jobs, and deletes all printer presets.
    To reset the printing system:
First, try all other troubleshooting techniques.
    If you can’t print
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Print & Fax.
Hold down the Control key as you click in the list at the left, and choose “Reset printing system” from the menu that appears.
    Add the printers you use.
    Take care,
    Nubz

  • First dumb software upgrade ever

Please -- someone tell me -- why would Software Update allow download and installation of new OSX software (iTunes 7.4.2) on top of an OS version that does not support it? Apple updates have always -- ALWAYS -- been the most intelligent in terms of not messing up one's system but someone surely dropped the ball here. So: do I upgrade to 10.4.7 or do I reinstall iTunes 7.2 (on my PPC G4 PB/OSX 10.4.2)? I lean towards the latter: there was little wrong with 10.4.2 AFAICS. What do you advise?

    Hi Mike,
Thanks so much for your help. I followed your instructions and everything was fine (even w/o repairing permissions). What surprised me was that in this case Apple's software upgrade simply wrote IT742 right over a working copy of IT72, rendering IT inoperable. The installer might at least have checked the OS version and asked: "if you install this version of IT on this version of MacOSX, IT will not run without an OS upgrade -- continue Y/N?". I am very happy with MacOS 10.4.2, so would have answered N. I have been using Macs since the year dot and it was always amazingly intelligent about not screwing things up, so I was a littel shocked. I guess we have been spoiled by Apple in the past!

HP couldn't find its own apps with both hands and a flashlight.
As of Lion all scanning functions are incorporated natively in OS X. You can scan three ways:
Use Preview: File > Import from scanner
    Use Image Capture
(Preview and Image Capture are both in your Applications folder.)
System Preferences > Print & Scan. Select your HP and use the Scan tab.
If you have HP's "Image Zone" software installed, you no longer need it and it no longer works anyway.

Same phone, same tv, same broadband network so everything the same so I assumed that it would.....just work!!! :-)
I'm away this weekend but I'm going to turn off and reload the Apple TV to see if that might work.
If not I may be begging your assistance again next week!!!
    Have a great weekend.

  • Have an iPad mini with latest software upgrade 8.1.2. Verizon Messaging  on use after working for 1 yr. deleted app and downloaded fresh app. Same problem. Neither Apple support or Verizon store support could find problem. Sometimes can type txt befor it

Have an iPad mini with latest software upgrade 8.1.2. Verizon Messaging app crashes on use after one year with no problems. I deleted the app and downloaded a clean version. It crashes whether or not I have any apps running in the background. Sometimes I can type part of a message before it crashes. Other times it crashes as soon as I try to use the app at all. Neither Apple Support nor Verizon store staff could find any reason for the problems. Any ideas??
THE TEXT SHOULD SAY THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE APP CRASHING Message was edited by: Steady_RI

Steady_RI, thanks for keeping us posted. Did you uninstall that application by pressing/holding down the icon until the (X) appears? Tap the (X) to delete it. Once the application has been deleted, you will need to reset the network settings on your device in Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings. Power that device off/on and then download the application again. Additionally, we also recommend that you disable Wi-Fi and connect to our network to test the messaging feature again.

  • IPod Touch skips, stutters, glitches through songs since software upgrade!

    Hi everyone,
*Since I upgraded my iPod Touch* to the latest available software update +(for the 1st Gen is 3.1.3)+, it has become *unable to properly play any music encoded above 128kbps*. Before the upgrade, my iPod could play music encoded in any higher bitrates like a champ! All the way to 320kbps, variable, even Apple Lossless format used to play flawlessly.
Suddenly after the last *firmware update*, most of the songs in my iPod Touch would *skip, glitch and garble, making electronic glitches and annoying noises* for no apparent reason. On occasion, the iPod would even *add several second of silence in the middle of random songs*. It's bizarre!
It definitely took me a while to figure it out, and spent weeks testing and researching what could be the problem. It was truly driving me nuts! The result of all these tests was clear: the *iPod Touch now CHOKES on any music file encoded higher than 128 kbps ACC*. Truly pathetic for such an expensive little jukebox. Even the early MP3 players I owned 10 years ago were able to play variable rate MP3 files without a glitch. *_This is a major bug that needs to be solved_*.
For those interested, I did the following tests through my weeks of research to find out the culprit to this problem:
    - - - Reinstalled the device software
    - - - Reformatted the device, then updated the software
    - - - Uninstalled all apps, reinstalled and tested my music after reinstalling each app
    - - - Disabled Wi-Fi (no difference)
    - - - Copied over my music library from scratch, several times (it was painful)
    - - - Reformatted a few albums in different bitrates, from 96kbps, all the way to 320kbps, both in constant and variable rates, and tested them one by one. This took days.
In the end, there is one thing that was consistently clear: *any songs encoded over 128kbps would skip, glitch and sound corrupted. Time after time*. All those music files I had encoded at higher rates +(192 kbps, variable 240 kbps and beyond)+ would make the iPod choke.
There is one temporary solution to this mess, but it involves reducing the quality of your music files: The only way I can now play my music collection in my iPod Touch without skips and glitches is by downconverting my files to the now *obsolete 128kbps*. Only when I converted my music to 128kbps, the annoying skips and glitches stopped. For an audiophile like myself, this was an absolutely painful decision, as I can tell the *obvious loss in quality and nuance in my music files since i had to downconvert them*.
Funny: this skipping problem *also affects any files purchased from iTunes* +(encoded at 240 kbps variable rate)+. Should I ask for my money back, Apple?
I find this irritating and painful, since *the ONE THING the iPod is supposed to do well* (aside from apps, games, and web browsing) *is to PLAY AUDIO AND MUSIC FILES*.
I spent a lot of money on this machine, and until recently it worked like magic; I just wished it played music again like it's supposed to. It's what the iPod was built to do. *Apple: Please fix the software!*
I wonder if there's a forum where I could post my detailed findings, so Apple engineers can take note of this *MAJOR BUG*.
PS: I have recently learned this is a very common bug, and tons of people are reaching out telling me they are experiencing the same annoying problems. Furthermore, *this seems to affect not just the 1st Gen, but ALL generations of the iPod Touch*. It's a *widespread software issue* that was not properly addressed in the latest software upgrade. I'm starting to worry about Apple's quality assurance process.

Hi everyone. Thanks to a tip in another forum, I think I had a breakthrough regarding this problem. I have the strong suspicion it's not the software for the iPod Touch, but instead, the problem comes from *iTunes and how it handles USB 2.0 transfers*.
To make a long story short, all your *music that's encoded above 128 kbps gets corrupted when you transfer it to your Touch from iTunes through your USB 2.0 connection*. That's where the problem is!
    I performed this simple test:
    *PART 1 - WIFI*
    - I connected my iPod Touch via Wi-Fi to the iTunes Store. Bought an album encoded at a very high bitrate (Coldplay's "Viva la Vida", encoded at 256KBPS).
    - Downloaded the Coldplay album directly to my iPod Touch via Wi-Fi.
    - Tested every song in the album, and they all played flawlessly.
    *PART 2 - USB 2.0*
    - Now, I erased the Coldplay album from my iPod Touch.
    - Connected my iPod Touch to my computer, and downloaded the album again via iTunes. I copied the very same album to my iPod Touch, this time using the USB 2.0 connection.
    - I tested every song in the album. Guess what: most of them are corrupted, skipping, glitching, making garbled noises.
I think a reached a minor "eureka" moment. *It's not the iPod Touch software: It's iTunes, and how iTunes deals with your USB 2.0 connection*.
Now, I'm not an engineer, and I don't know how to fix this problem. I wonder if there's anyone out there there that knows why high bitrate files get corrupted during the file transfer. Hope anyone can shed some additional light on this issue, so we can find a solution.

  • Ipod no longer works in car after software upgrade

After doing the most recent software upgrade on my ipod touch, the device is no longer recognised when i cnnect it to my car stereo (infinity). How can i uninstall the last upgrade??

Downgrading the iOS is not supported by Apple.
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
However, sometime the iOS update breaks compatibility and yo have to wait for either an iOS update or a firmware update for your car system.

  • Photos and Podcasts won't sync to Apple TV after upgrade

I recently switched from one MacBook (10.5) to a newer one (10.6) running iTunes 9.0.2 (25) and have upgraded my Apple TV software to 3.0.1. I was able to sync the Apple TV to the iTunes library on my new MacBook, but it will only sync music and movies. I get an error message saying "iTunes cannot sync photos because of a problem on your computer. An unknown error occurred (-50)." I have already tried deleting and re-creating the iLife preferences file and the xml file for iPhoto. Can anyone help me figure this out?

I had a similar problem with my cousin's Apple TV and new 27" iMac. After finding a warm body to speak with at Apple, they asked if there were any slide shows in iPhoto. When I said, yes, they suggested deleting them. Since the photos were already in albums, that was not a problem. After deleting the slide shows from iPhoto, the photos sync'd to the Apple TV just fine.
They did have a follow on suggestion that I did not need to try and that was to restore the Apple TV to the factory settings, downloading the software updates and trying to sync. Please note that this was not necessary and so I do not know if this is an alternative "fix".
Deleting the slide shows from iPhoto did the job.

  • IPhone 2.0 firmware for iPod Touch with Software Upgrade

Okay, don't get me wrong... I don't think Apple should always give everything away for free. But since I already spent my precious $20 back in January for the Software Upgrade, I should DEFINITELY get the $10 2.0 FW update for free since it INCLUDES the software I already purchased! Apple... ya listening??!!??

i COMPLETELY agree with you. i mean the math alone reveals the nonsense. i will be spending approx. $30 for the two upgrades, while plenty of people will be getting the EXACT same package for only $10! it's almost like we're being punished for purchasing early. what gives?
