Apple TV stalls indefinitely when accessing My Music (v3.0 problem)

I have to restart it, but can only do so by unplugging it per another thread I started which discusses my inability to start my Apple TV from the remote.
Need fixes fast from Apple.

I've got the same problem with 3.0.1. I think I've narrowed it down to the network.
I noticed some serious frame rate slow down during the opening video on boot, most of the time leading to device lockup. Like you I've lag when scrolling through the menu, with ~30 secs pause. If I press over multiple times, the device will usually reboot.
So if I unplug the router, the problems go away. I'm running wireless.

I moved my iTunes library to my external hard drive some time ago and I followed the directions listed here on the apple support page. It did copy my library and now is on my hard drive... I can open iTunes and use it to sync all of my devices but I would like to play my music... I can see all of my music files but can not play them if I click on an album or song it says the following: "(file name) could not be used because the original file cannot be found. Would you like to locate it?" I click locate but do not know where to go from there? I need a way to access all files and not to hunt down one at a time on my hard drive... I am pretty sure I deleted the original library to make space on my internal drive which was the reason for moving it. I have tried and tried to fix it and do not have a lot of time to do so with a one and two year old at my house who do not like it whenI sit down at my computer. What to do??? Any help is much appreciated!!!

See Make a split library portable. Move all of the bits of the library together in the the correct shape and it should work. Or undo exactly what you did and then start over.
If you're a former Windows user don't try merging two folders together that have the same name by dropping one into the same folders as the other, as that goes badly on a Mac.

Apple TV crashes when accessing Shared Music

_Short Description:_ Every time I try to access Shared Music on Apple TV, it crashes.
Detailed: I have a Windows 7 PC running iTunes. My music library is very large (1 TB), so it is on an external drive, and I have just added that folder to iTunes. Apple TV is connected to my network, and shows as a "speaker" in iTunes or Remote, and I can stream music TO it fine, but every time I try to access shared music from the Apple TV, it crashes. Initially, I thought it might be due to fact that my iTunes library is so large, so I tried creating a small playlist of iTunes songs, and only sharing that playlist, and Apple TV still crashes when I select SHared Music from the menu. I have been searching the web for months to find a solution, but can't. Any assistance would be appreciated.

The physical size of your library is not relevant (mine is closing in on 4 TB - but the vast majority is video). What is important is the number of items since this will determine the size of your itunes database, if your 1 TB is all music you may well have in excess of 100,000 items and this may be your problem.
Since you are talking about shared music you must have a secondary library, but you don't get an option to share playlists with a secondary library, so I'm a little confused. Assuming for a moment your nomenclature is misleading me and you have a primary library, then you are likely talking about syncing playlists. Syncing a playlist will not change the size of your database since all unsynced content remains able to be streamed.
If you are using a primary library, try checking the only show synced items and resyncing.
(Please excuse my unsupported nomenclature)

Home Sharing on Apple TV keeps cutting when playing my music

I've got my Apple Tv connected to my Sony Bravia via HDMI.
It is then connected to my wireless router.
I've turned on home sharing and play my music via the APTV, however after say 30 mins of playing music, it just stops. I go to the home page of APTV and my 'library' is missing under computer.
Only way I can fix is to go to the laptop itunes and turn off home sharing and then turn on again.
I've only had this a week and its very frustrating!!
Sometimes it lasts more than an hour before cuts out.
Ive got no problem with accessing internet etc, so doesnt appear that connection is stopping.
Any advice greatly appreciated!!!

This problem is driving everyone nuts. I have tried everything. I have fixed all the IP addresses on my wifi network, uninstalled, reinstalled iTunes, hard reset the ATV, check all the port settings, turned QoS on the router on and off...at the end of the day, the only thing that makes the homeshare appear is turning the ATV off and on. And when it cuts out again half an hour later, you have to do the same thing all over again....
As for the suggestion for some - presumably - Apple support people that its a problem with third party routers, that is just baloney. My router maintains internet and wifi connectivity perfectly. Buy an Apple router?? No thanks, not after this ATV fiasco.
On top of this, it doesn't play AVI or other normal movie formats so everything has to be transcoded to MP4. And I need to have iTunes open on my PC for the homeshare to get picked up (or rather for it to get intermittently picked up).
This is the biggest piece of junk I have bought recently. Think I'll use it as a paperweight. No more Apple for me.

Apple TV OS6 - Reboots when accessing Movies, Podcasts, iRadio

I have searched high and low but I have not found anyone else experiencing this. When I select Movies, Music, Podcast or iRadio the Apple TV reboots. I can access my computer and all the other features just not the built in Apple ones.
This started after updating to OS6 and OS6 revisited.

Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
Reset the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings)
Restore the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Restore)

- Apps are locked to the account that purchased them.
- To update apps you have to sign into the account that purchased the apps. If you have apps that need updating purchased from more than one account you have to update them one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased from one account.
Also note the 90 limit for redownload purchases.

I had this problem on my iMac and fixed it after a half hour of frustrated trying. I had changed my Apple ID on my iPad mini while traveling. When I finally got back home after a few months, I couldn't log in to iTunes on my iMac. The old Apple ID was still being used on my iMac. I tried just highlighting it and deleting it and typing in my new Apple ID. No dice. The login just defaulted to my old Apple ID. I tried clicking on the drop down menu that appears when you right right click your Apple ID that appears at the top of the page after highlighting the 'iTunes Store" in the left side list. I saw "account" so I clicked on that. The "account" settings on my iMac showed my new Apple ID but my iMac wouldn't use it. It just kept defaulting to my old ID. I shut down. I logged back in. Same result. Finally I right clicked the same drop down menu and saw "sign out" at the bottom of the list. Even though I was not signed in to iTunes, I clicked "sign out". My next log in to iTunes showed my Apple ID as blank and I was able to type in my new ID. Hope this helps.
I am a long time 20 year Microsoft user. I am somewhat ( 1 year) new to Apple. With Microsoft, I found that fixing problems was clunky and complex, but there was always a post somewhere that explained the fix. Microsoft's explanations stated even the most obvious fact. Even if everyone knew that the sky was blue, Microsoft's instructions would still tell you that the sky was blue. With Apple, I find that the obvious is sometimes not so obvious. But the fix is almost always easy once you find it, without many of the elaborate maneuvers needed in Windows.

How to connect my "home sharing" to access my music, even when my computer is off?

Okay, I can't figure out how to access my music from my iTunes on my Apple TV when my Macbook Pro is off. I need help.

And I want to come home and find playmates folding my laundry for me.... Which is about as reasonable and rational of an expectation. You want to be able to access a service on a computer that is not running..... How exactly do you see that working? If the computer is not on then how would it be able to server content?!?!?!

Getting Error Message When Trying to Access iTunes Music

Need some help.
Little Mac Mini has been through a lot after foobaring after the last update. To bring you up to speed, I had to get Apple Genius Bar to fix the problem but they re-installed the OS by installing 10.4.7, Safari 2.0.4 and iTunes 7.0.x even though it had had 10.4.11, Safari 3.0.4 and iTunes 7.5 on it before the problem. Even when it was offline with Safari and mail crashing, iTunes worked fine. After Apple's re-installing 10.4.7, iTunes had problems and gave me a message that it could not play the video files because the quicktime version was too old. So Quicktime too was re-installed using an older version. Why did Apple Genius Bar fellow do this?
Anyway... after this I found an underlying problem with the directory and had to restart with Tiger install disc and run Repair Disk to fix it. Then I got the computer back up to 10.4.11, Safari 3.0.4 and iTunes 7.5 using Apple's combo update and Software update. Repaired permissions and verified disk, everything.
So here is the problem, I can not get iTunes to access my music on the external hard drive anymore. I remember getting a message that suggested that something happened to the xml file.
Here's the thing: I have two complete copies of the iTunes music on two external hard drives. I also have, in addition to these, a complete copy of the iTunes Music backed up using the Apple program "Back-Up." Usually, I keep iTunes pointing to the music folder on one of the external hard drives, but now, it insists on opening up the iTunes music on the internal which has very little music on it. I know how to open the other music libraries by holding down the option key and starting iTunes and choosing a library. In the past when I did this I got iTunes up with all of my music, etc. fine. I used to be able to access the music library on one external and then switch to the other library by holding the down the option key while starting iTunes. But now, I get a message that says "An iTunes Library file could not be found in the folder 'iTunes Music.' Please change to another" irregardless of which library I choose. What does this message mean? How do I get iTunes to access the music in these libraries again?
I know that the music libraries are all fine on the externals, because I have gone and found them. All is okay with that, but I can't get iTunes to see them. Could this be because the xml file is missing? I can't seem to find it anywhere. Not in the main hard drive or on any of the externals. If it is missing and I need it, where can I get it and where, exactly do I put it. I am a bit sketchy on my understanding of the file hierarchy as you can tell.
I do have back-up. Would a restore fix the problem. My little mac only has about 6 gigs left in it's internal so there is not enough room to put the music back into the internal iTunes that it is currently working from. Can I restore the back up version on to one of the externals? I don't know really what to do.

Anyway.... solved my own problem. Apple should hire me.
Actually read another post and got an idea. Held down the option key while starting iTunes. Got the window that asks if I want to create a new library or to choose a library. I had been choosing and finding that my libraries on the two external hard drives were damaged. Yes... I think it was because the iTunes Library files and the iTunes Library xml files were missing. So instead of choosing library, I chose to create a new library. Of course it brought up iTunes with nothing in it. I opened the folder "iTunes" on that same external hard drive and boldly clicked and dragged it on to the empty Music section of iTunes. It imported! First importing everything. Music, podcasts, video, audio books, etc. and then imported album art and then boom, it was all there. With trepidation, I closed iTunes and reopened it and yes, all is there still... like in.... it works! It plays! I've been listening to music while typing this.
Of course, the playlists and play counts, ratings are gone. Yes... I expected that, but I have all of the media and that is what is important. Even the things I downloaded just before the problem happened is in there. Okay... well that's good.
Hey.... what ever you do, keep back ups and copies, like several and in several formats and all over the place. For instance, most of my music is backed-up in five places. On a cd, also on a dvd, and also in three places on two different external hard drives!
Okay.. for the weird thing and it's only weird to me because I obviously do not completely understand the file system in the mac. It's this: Before I created this new library, when I went to the external hard drive I found the folder labeled "iTunes" and no other folders. The iTunes folder only contained the media content and I could not find the library or library xml files. Now after importing that one iTunes folder into the newly created library and allowing it to get everything into it, going to the external hard drive I had expected to see a new folder with a new copy of all of the music content in it but instead I found a new folder labeled " iTunes1" and opening it, I found the library and library xml files. Ah.... so if I am understanding this correctly, what "creating a new library" did was to add in new the library and library xml files that were missing, but it still accessed the "iTunes" folder with all of the content that was already there. So... in essence fixing the problem. Yes... this would be correct because the external has the same amount of gigs used as it had before I created the new library. This is way cool! And no, I did not mess anything up, my computer's internal hasn't enough space for the iTunes music content and it's showing the same amount of space used so it's not like it moved the stuff into the internal. It couldn't do that, anyway.
I shall thank the guys on the other post for their help. Hope this helps others.
By the way... this whole problem happened originally because apparently my hard disk had errors in the directory and the downloading of the last security update (security update 2007-009) was just too much for it.
Look before updating always check by going to Utilities and performing a "permissions repair" and also running "Verify disk," even if you see that your S.M.A.R.T. disk shows "verified." If verify disk shows any errors or problems then perform a disk repair. Do this before any update or installation or you may run into serious trouble. To do this get out your OS install disk. Use the Tiger one if your computer is currently running Tiger. Leopard one if it's using Leopard. Put the disk in and re-start your computer. As soon as it is off and before it even begins to start up, hold down the C key on the keyboard and keep holding it down until you get the message asking what language you want. Don't panic, this is correct. It will look like it wants to install the OS again. Don't re-install the OS. But you can choose the language. Here I was panicking and I don't want you to. At the top you will see the installer bar. Go to Disk Utility up on that bar and click on that, it will take you to Disk Utility and you will then and only then be able to perform a disk repair by clicking on "Repair Disk." Do it! Do it a couple of times until the thing reports that the disk has no problems. I forgot how it states this but I do remember that the lettering is in green. Green is great! Close Disk Utility. Quit Installer. A window will come up asking you to choose where to restart from so choose your internal hard drive and it should restart and be good to go.
Trust me, the updates are fine. 10.4.11, Safari 3.0.4 and iTunes 7.5 are good, it's existing problems in your computer's directory or keychains that is causing the problems when updating or installing new stuff. I had to learn all of this the hard way, even though I tried to keep my mac clean and in top shape, and even though I asked and asked the Genius Bar guys at the local Apple store if there is anything more I needed to know to prevent difficulties. Welcome to the Apple Community.
That's simply not possible I'm afraid. You'd need to give them their own account and allowance or make it so you are required to be there to input the password when they wish to make a purchase.

I updated my apple Id, now I can't access my music

My old apple ID was an email I don't use anymore, so I decided to update it. When I logged in to appleid.apple.com, it prompted me to change my password because my old one did not fit the new requirements. After I changed my password I changed my apple ID. I verified that it had changed with my new email and everything was all set. I set everything up on my phone with the new ID (after some trial and error), but now when I sync my iphone to itunes it asks me to authorize purchases I made with the old ID. No matter what password I put in, it won't accept it, not the original password (before it prompted me to change it) or any subsequent. It then redirects me to iforget where it offers to send me my password. I check the old email, but the password never comes (it doesn't end up in spam either). Now, I can't access any music I purchased under the old apple ID on my phone and I have a feeling that when it comes time to update paid-for apps that I purchased under the old ID that will be impossible as well. If anyone can help me I would very much appreciate it. I know other people are struggling with this issue too.
Also, I didn't know which community to post this to, so this question might end up in a couple.

You might want to try contacting Apple for assistance by going to https://expresslane.apple.com, then click See All Products and Services>iTunes>iTunes Store>Passwords & Security Questions>Lost or Forgotten Apple ID password. They should be able to explain what's going on and help you reset the password for the old ID if necessary. The call should be free.
