Apple TV stopped responding (1.5 years old)

My Apple tv of 1.5 years old, stopped responding and the light blinks fast.
I can't get it on the video screen to use the settings.
I've unplugged everything several times and re-set the wireless modem.
Right before this happened while it was working, I installed the most recent update.
My Macbook Pro still needs to update the lastest OX S Mavericks operating system, which i am hesitant.
Would this have something to do with it no or should i try to restore it somehow?
I'm lost.

AppleTV needs restoring.

  • Apple TV stopped responding to remote, tried everything, what now?

Tonight my husband and I sat down to watch our rented movie and strangely, the Apple TV didn't display any rented movies, and when I tried to connect to the iTunes store it said it was unavailable and to try again later. Promptly it stopped responding to the remote—not even to the Menu and - combo that is supposed to restart it. When I held those keys down, after about 5 seconds the light on the Apple TV unit turned amber, but nothing happened. I tried this several times and finally gave up. Then I unplugged/replugged the unit and held down the key combo while it restarted. It have me the option to run diagnostics, and at this point the remote started working again, so I ran the diagnostics (it says everything is OK), and then I chose the option to restart. Once it restarted and was on the main menu, it no longer responded to the remote again.
I have over 100 gigs of movies plus rented films on my Apple TV, so needless to say the LAST thing I want to do right now is to do a factory restore and wait DAYS and DAYS for all the data to get back on there (plus have my network hogged by the activity).
BTW I've tried both key combinations to pair and unpair the remote with no success. I'm so frustrated right now!! Is there ANYTHING else I can do?

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I did the factory restore and the Apple TV is now responding correctly to the remote. However, I'm having a problem in iTunes now: the Apple TV appears in the list under Devices, but when I click on it, under Summary I only see the software version (2.1) and the serial number—no choices on syncing. The Cancel and Apply buttons at the bottom are grayed out. The only other tab is Photos, which allows me to choose photos to sync and offer the Apply button, but after I click it there is no choice anywhere to sync.
    Very bizarre, no?
BTW I'm running the latest version of iTunes.

  • Have a bit of a problem. I'm trying to adjust the resolution on a 2013 27" iMac. Brand new, bought on April 6 2013 from Apple. My friend is 84 years old so, I'm trying to help him adjust the screen so he can see the screen. Any direction would be great.

OK. Have a 84 year old that has a hard time seeing the screen. I've been able to adjust Safari's resolution to accomadate him however, I would like to adjust the screen resolution. When I open preference's / displays, it doesn't have an option to adjust. Is there a way? Maybe thourgh terminal? The computer is the new 27" iMac purchased on April 6, 2013 from Apple. Yes, it is the newest iMac without the disk (DVD) drive. It's running Mountian Lion.
Anyone have some direction on how to solve this enigma???
    bish

The purchase date isn't the important info here.  The actual model of the iMac is and this info is in the model identifier.  For example, I have a late-2012 iMac, model identifier is iMac 13,2.  I will add that there is no 2013 model available.  The most recent at this time is the late-2012 model which I have.
On my display if I select Apple->System Preferences->Displays then press the button "Display" I am presented with a screen which shows Resolution and Scaled as button options.  "Best for built-in display" is the default, however, clicking on "Scaled" brings up the various resolutions that can be used with the display:
From this I can select a display with larger items, but keep in mind that while a larger image can be selected (using a smaller width x height value) it will not be as crisp and sharp as the default.

The Apple launch issues article suggests pulling 3rd-party plug-ins if the problem doesn't happen in Safe Mode.

  • Is Apple going to support a 5 year old computer or am I better off switching to PCs going forward?

It's been frustrating since I got an Ipad given as a gift and tried to connect it to my otherwise perfectly working G5. Cannot install new Itunes unless I upgrade to OS 10.5, cannot upgrade to the widely available and cheaper OS 10.6 because I have a Power PC and not an Intel processor, cannot upgrade to 10.5 (easily) as Apple does not support the location where I live outside the US. I can only purchase a more expensive copy on the internet - hope that what I will get will be legit and spend through the nose to upgrade to an already obsolete operating system.
On the other hand, Windows XP is still supported, so my ancient laptop has now become my "Ipad" computer. Considering upgrading as that one is really slow, but I am weary on investing on another Mac, indeed, more expensive than PCs. I always thought they were worth it, but if now Apple forces us to replace our home computers every three or four years, then I no longer see the point of sticking with Macs.
Has anyone found a way to run Itunes for Ipad, AppleTV on older OS versions? or any idea if Apple plans to release an Itunes that will work on their own computers?

I'm not trying to be intentionally dismissive but no, Apple is done with PowerPC hardware. There will be no new upgrades for any software that will run on that hardware. With OS X 10.7 Lion Apple has completed their transition to Intel processors and going forward that is what they will support. If you wish to stay in the Apple eco-system you'll have to purchase new hardware; or, as you ask, you can go wtih Windows. I also would not count on WinXP being supported for very much longer either. So either way, if you wish to keep using iDevices, and iTunes and the iTunes Store you will have to upgrade to a modern, supported operating system from either Apple or MS.

  • WRT54G stopped working, only a year old

My WRT54G wireless router quit working today. I tried to reinstall the software but it didnt help, the software did detect the router. I tried all four of the out ports and no help. I tried another router this evening and it works fine using the same cables. I also went straight from the dsl modem to the computer and it works fine as well. It has to be the router. Is a year the normal life for one of these routers? Not to happy with how long this lasted.

Connect the Modem to the computer ... download the latest firmware on the computer ... Connect back the router to the computer... upgrade the firmware ... after upgrade ...reset & reconfigure the router .. ... see if it works ..

  • Apple mail not responding 10.9.1

My apple mail stopped responding.  It was working after the mavricks update, but now it has stopped responding.  I have to force quit every time i try to open it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm having a similar problem. I have two mail accounts, my .mac account and one through my ISP. Yesterday, on my .mac account a box would pop-up and say that my password was being rejected. I would reenter my correct password, but .mac would not accept it. I can get my .mac mail via Safari (going to .mac and logging in), but not through Mail. This is still happening today. I'm wondering if there is a problem with .mac?
I tried logging out and doing a restart and when I did that, I got the same weird pop-up box I got last summer (WebDav wanting password for a web site that included iDisk).
Methinks this is an Apple .mac/idisk server problem.

  • Do I give my 7 year old his own apple id for a new ipad mini or use mine

I just bought an ipad mini for my 7 year old. we have other ipad, computers, iphones etc under my apple Id. I don't want my son to access some of my information, however many of the games and apps I've purchased are for him on my devices so I wouldn't have to re purchase them if I use my id.
I guess I'm wondering how do I set his mini up and make it kid friendly? Is there an option to create a kids apple Id as it asks for what year you are born and he is too young

Its really up to you how you manage your kids content.  Think about what you want him to access. Do you want  him to access Messages? iCloud? Facetime? or only the iTunes and App Stores?
You can use your Apple ID for just the stores so he can access the purchased Apps for free but avoid setting up an Id for the other services if you don't want to.   In the end its up to you whether you want to create an ID for him at this point.  You certainly don't need to.
You can also use restrictions to setup some parental controls.
    iOS: Understanding Restrictions (parental controls)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4213
As to the age restrictions to create an apple id, you need to enter a valid date above 13 years of age to create one, but no one is stopping you from lying about his age. As long as you are sure about what you are doing and are prepared to handle the Apple Id access it should not matter what age you enter.

  • HT1904 How do I set up my Ipad to stop my seven year old grandson from buying ad ons for "Minecraft"? I have set it so a password is needed to purchase any item but "Minecraft" still nibbles $1.50 here and another 1.35 there every time he uses my IPAD.

How do I stop my seven year old grandson from being able to purchase add ons for "minecraft"
We thought we had set all the right stops to have passwods for all purchases but they do not seem to work. Every time he comes over a plays games I end up with a bill for bits and pieces he seems to buy whilst playing the game.
He swears he does not buy anything and he has been threatened with a ban if he does. Yet every time he plays "minecraft" I end up with an invoice for some extra that has been bought whilst he is playing.
As I said we have tried all of the Apple security ideas but the invoice keep comeing.
    Please help.

Have you got Settings > General > Restrictions > In-App Purchases set 'off' - that should stop all in-app purchases. And what have you got 'Require Password' set to on the Restrictions screen (I can't remember what version of iOS that setting came in with, so you may not have it) ?

  • HT4009 My 6 year old was playing on a app we have used for ages, then i received numerous emails sating about $600 of in app purchases had been made. i don't understand how this happened as my child does not know my apple i.d password.

You can try contacting iTunes support and see if they give you a refund or credit for some/all of it : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchaes, Billing & Redemption.
To stop it happening again you can turn off in-app purchases on your iPad via Settings > General > Restrictions > In-App Purchases, and also in Restrictions change Require Password to 'Immediately' - the default is 15 minutes during which it doesn't need to be re-entered.

  • 3 year old iMac 24 running OS10.7.4.  After it has been on for a day or so, it stops going to sleep and becomes very slow.  This only happens when Safari is running. Quitting Safari solves the problem.  Has anyone else have the same problem?

Hello Albert, see how many of these you can answer...
See if the Disk is issuing any S.M.A.R.T errors in Disk Utility...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH7029
Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
How much RAM & free space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
In the Memory tab, are there a lot of Pageouts?

  • Menu botton stopped working and this nano is only a year old

So what do I do? I've had this thing for a little over a year and the menu button does not respond to anything. The only way I can back out of my music is if I connect it to my computer. That gets pretty old. Anyone else having this issue? Should I assume that this is just not a good product and try a different MP3 player? HELP.

Take it to Apple. There is a one year warranty on the iPhone.

  • My Macbook is 5 years old (purchase date July 06). It suddenly broke down : the diagnostic by Apple is that I have to replace the Mother Board.

My Macbook is 5 years old (purchased July 06). It suddenly broke down. The diagnostic by Apple Store is : I must replace the Carte Mere (Mother Board ?). The repair cost is outrageous ( $800). I cannot afford it and do not accept it. IT tech is supposed to last longer than a mere FIVE years. Even if it is out of date after a year, a computer should not technically fail like that. That is what I cannot accept. Will Apple pay for it ?

Sorry I wasn't clearer ... in the case of an auto, agree that owner wear items/maintenance aren't relevant to the discussion ... what if the electronic dash, for example, dies in 5 years? Unless you have an extended warranty, the manufacturer isn't obligated to repair it for free.
It's unfortunate that the logic board has failed after 5 years, however, it does happen.  It's not unusual for notebook hard drives to fail in 3 to 5 years, too.  You can always ask Apple if they will repair it. at no charge.
As a related aside, if you do repair your Macbook, you should have a good hard drive backup routine, assuming that your hard drive is the original one.  Since notebook drive failures in the 3-5 year timeframe aren't unusual, you've gotten good life from your drive, and you want to be prepared when it does stop working.
