Apple TV stopped showing up in iTunes. No way to get content across :(

I have an ATV1 that I hook up to my computer at work to load content onto via ethernet. This has been working fine for the last couple of years. I plugged it in recently and I am not getting an Apple TV icon showing up under the devices section. Uploading through my computer is the only way to get the same content on my iPod as well as on my ATV1.
The weird thing is iTunes seems to recognize that there is an ATV1 attached because I am getting the icon that lets me choose to use the computer's speaker or the TV's speakers. How can I get the icon to show up so that I can start moving content across?

The ATV2 does not stream the same way the ATV1 does, In other words ATV2 requires HomeSharing instead of streaming like the ATV1.
1) Make sure you have the most recent version of itunes (Check updates)
2) Turn on home sharing in iTunes
3) Turn on home sharing on ATV2.
4) Input name/password for iTunes account and your good to go.

Is there a way to force my first generation apple tv to show up in iTunes without a TV?

It would have to be connected to a TV to get the code off of it to to set it up in devices.  After that it would not actually have to be connected to a TV just to show up in devices....  but I am assuiming you actually want to USE ATV?  And for that it would still need to be connected to a TV.

  • HT201335 Apple TV stopped showing up on AirPlay, and Apple want to charge me $19.00 +tax to ask a question.

After I updated AppleTV to 5.2 and iOS to 5.1.1 on my iPad, Apple TV stopped showing up on AirPlay. I searched for an answer on the Internet with no luck and I asked support through Apple's website. I was able to talked to someone on the phone from Apple but he said I have to pay $19 + tax. He said I will find answer on Apple support page, but I still don't have any answer. Please help me!!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
    Restart your router.
    Restart your mobile device.

i had a problem with my iphone and had to restore and now i have lost all music from itunes any way to get it back ?

It should ne in itunes on your computer and included in your regular backup of your computer.
If for some reason you have failed to backup your music, then - in the U.S only - you can get previous itunes purchases from the beta version of icloud.  Open itunes store, click Purchased, under Quick Links.

  • Another Apple TV not showing up in iTunes...

Ok, this is the config: Apple tv Software 1.1, iMac Intel 07/2007 with OS X 10.5.1, iTunes 7.6. All of a sudden the Apple tv did not show up in iTunes anymore (after working perfectly before). I have another MacBook and a Windows Vista System, both have no connection problems with the atv.
The atv can be pinged from the iMac, who does not show it in iTunes, without lag or packet loss. There is no firewall enabled. The atv connects perfectly to the internet and to the other computers (MacBook and Vista PC) via WLAN.
I did anything described on the support page to try to resolve the problem. I resetted the atv, I re-installed itunes... i upgraded to Leopard (after the problem showed up)... not resolving this issue.
    Any clues?

My ATV mysteriously disappeared from iTunes today as well. I'd been using it all weekend to play music. Today I come home form work and it has disappeared from iTunes.
I restarted everything including the ATV. It will show up in iTunes at first but then I get a message that I might have a firewall enabled because iTunes can't communicate with the ATV. It gives me port umber to stop blocking. Then the ATV disappears again.
No firewalls turned on (Leopards Firewall is useless anyway since you can't specify numbered ports to allow communication through.) Nothing has changed in my setup.
I tired linking the ATV to my Macbook Pro Core Duo (G networking) and it kind of works. I got it to start syncing files but the progress bar in iTunes doesn't update. It stays stuck on one file. But the ATV is copying the files because after I lost patience I canceled the sync and found that some of the media had been copied over. When I tried to sync again I got the same error about a possible firewall blocking the port. After a few iTunes relaunches I got ATV to show up in iTunes again and it resumed trying to copy files over. Again the progress bar just stuck on one song.
The only thing I can think of is some kind of major interference that is nearby and out of my control. The ATV shows full strength in the Wifi Signal. It can connect to the internet and YouTube. But its iTunes connection is just plain flaky. I've switched on interface robustness in the AirPort base station. Still nothing.
Sorry I can't be of any help. Maybe more squeaky wheels get grease faster.
I'm so glad this thing broke right before "Take 2"

  • IPhone 4S has stopped showing up in iTunes devices, but does show in iPhoto?

Recently had permission issues with i7 27" Mac running newest mavericks (10.9.5). After fixing permissions my iPhone 4S no longer shows up in iTunes, but I still can see it as a device in my Apple iTunes acct. and it does show (and upload photos) to iPhoto. I'm stumped. Have reset Location and Network settings on phone, computer asks to Trust device and I press Trust, but it still does not show. Tried several USB cords, but they all work with iPhoto, but still no device in iTunes.
A little help would be appreciated!

    Hello there, stanphoto.
The following Knowledge Base article offers some great and practical steps for troubleshooting your iOS device not being recognized in iTunes for OS X:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for OS X
Follow these steps to resolve your issue:
If you haven't connected your iOS device to this computer before, unlock the device and tap Trust. Learn more about the Trust This Computer alert.
    Restart your iOS device.
    Restart your Mac.
Make sure that your Mac meets the minimum system requirements for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
Install software updates on your Mac.
If an iTunes update is available, apply the update.
Check USB connections. iOS devices need USB 2.0 to work properly. If you're not sure your Mac has USB 2.0 ports, check the computer's specifications.
Disconnect other USB devices and connect your device directly to a USB port on your Mac.
    Try another USB cable.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • Bonjour issues preventing Apple TV from showing up in itunes?

After hours of trouble-shooting and trying out pretty much every fix suggested in this forum and others to make my brand new AppleTV show up in iTunes I think I found something useful. Apple TV uses the Bonjour protocol to make itself known to other systems on the local network. A utility called Bonjour browser shows all the multicasting services on the local network..and voila, AppleTV is broadcasting and showing up in the browser on my MacBook. Issue is, with the AppleTV broadcast I'm getting a "can't resolve link-local name" error message. In fact, I'm getting that error for every device listed in the Bonjour browser. Another tool that I read about in a blog (Bonjour Conformance Test) fails to complete the test (probing failure).
I know more about Bonjour now than I ever wanted to know but still feel completely clueless. Hey, these are APPLE products, this is supposed to be EASY Any ideas what's going on here?
    DANKE!

I wouldn't worry about the 'can't resolve......' message, the fact that the browser application has seen the tv means that the tv is advertising it's services. Bonjour does nothing more than this, it does not enable or allow sharing, it merely advertises that a device can share.
It might be worth checking that itunes is also advertising it's sharing properly, you should be looking for something like itunes DAAP, which is the protocol itunes uses to share its library.
Moving on slightly, I recently did some tests and found that it is possible to stream to 3 tv's and 3 other macs from a single library, to cut a long story short, this doesn't fit in with my understanding of DAAP which limits sharing to 5 devices. My conclusion is that itunes doesn't use DAAP to share with the tv. If this is correct itunes needs to advertise another sharing service over bonjour specifically for the tv, so you should see another service advertised in the application you are using, let's say itunes-appletv, although it is likely something different.

  • HT201210 My partner updated iphone 5, and it now shows 'Connect to iTunes'. Then we get 'iTunes could not contact iPhone software update server because you are not connected to the internet'. Please help.

iPhone 5 was updated (version unknown), and now screen shows 'Connect to iTunes.  When we try to do this, we get message 'iTunes could not contact the iPhone software update server because you are not connected to the internet'.
Please tell me how I fix this problem.
    Thanks

Yes, the reason you are getting the error is the phone cannot provide internet for the laptop and then update itself. It would lose connection as you erase the firmware and try to update. You need to connect the computer to the Internet in some other fashion before you connect the phone to try and fix the update problem. As Ocean20 says, and I completely agree, how would you think you could use the Internet connection of a device that is not only going to turn off and on, but is going to get completely wiped of firmware and restored? It would completely remove the device from the equation here. Does that make sense to you?

  • Jdev CPU profiler doesn't show inherint method timing - Any way to get it

    Hi,
CPU profiler both in HOTSPOT and Callstack doesn't give method's inherint timings . it only shows parent + descendant timing (inclusive timing) . This doesn't help me to quickly find which method inherintly is expensive (ie timing withouts its child included ) .Is there a way to get the timing of a method without including its child method timing ..
    Regards,
    Indraneel

Depending on what version of JDeveloper 11 you are running, exclusive time in a method is called "CPU Exclusive" or "CPU Shallow" in the CPU profiler column headings. The column is there; there is data in the column for some methods (Click on the 'CPU Exclusive/Shallow' column to sort by those values). So it's hard to understand how the profiler does not report it.
Perhaps your issue is that the profiler doesn't report it accurately?

  • AirTunes stopped showing up in iTunes but fine on mac.

    Hi,
Have done a search but can't find this problem.
We had a network with one PC, one mac, 1 x wireless router and 2 x airport express (for airtunes).
After updating iTunes on the PC (maybe a coincidence), iTunes can no longer find any speakers. They still show up on the mac.
When trying to play with the airtunes setting on the PC itunes crashes.
I have now added a new PC laptop to the network and that is experiencing the same problem.
I have been trouble shooting and tried taking the wireless router out of the equation but no joy.
Any ideas as what to try next?
    PC - XP
    Laptop - Windows 7
    Airport Express latest firmware

    Hi,
I guess that your Airport Utility also can't find your Airport when scanning?
I found this resolution that seems to work for some - not for me though. But it might work for you

  • IPhone 3GS stopped showing up in iTunes 11.1.3 Mac OS X 10.7.5

My iPhone 3GS non longer shows up as a device in iTunes 11.1.3 on my Mac OS X 10.7.5 machine. The only warning was that the last time it was connected I got a message that it could not backup the device. I was still able to sync. Ever since then I have been able to get the iPhone to connect. I experienced the same thing with my iPod Touch 4 with the latest OS. Both devices are still recognized by Dropbox when I connect them, though that is the only place they show up.

  • IPhone stopped showing up in itunes

I recently updated itunes to the newest one and did some software updates on my computer. After doing these my iphone only is showing up as a camera, and does not come up in itunes. I reinstalled itunes but it still does not show up. Does anyone know of anything i can do?

If restarting apple mobile device does not work, you might need to completely remove itunes and reinstall.
Here is an article from the apple support website that might help out.

  • Apple TV not showing all my iTunes purchases in "Music"

Just got my Apple TV connected, all works fine (syncs with my MacBook iTunes etc) but one annoying thing is that under the "Music" tab, only a small fraction of the music I have purchased over the past few years appears, so that when my MacBook is turned off, I'm limited to those few songs. Any ideas?

The main Movies/TV Shows/Music icons play back either movie rentals/purchases, TV Show purchases or purchased music via the internet.
All the content in iTunes is normally accessed on the LAN using Home Sharing via the Computers icon and its Movies/TV Shows/Music submenus.  If iTunes is not running local LAN content can't be accessed.
If much of the music you have is from ripped CDs, MP3s from other sopurces/vendors, it will not appear under the main Music icon unless you have an iTunes Match subscription.  I'm not certain that even iTunes Store purchasesd appear under this without iTunes Match but as I have a subscription I can't currently tell.
If you have iTunes Match it's possible all your iTunes library has not been matched as yet as some non-recognised titles need to be uploaded to the cloud.

  • Another Customer w/Apple TV not showing up in iTunes

I have gone through all of the troubeshooting exercises except eliminating the startup items. By the looks of the forum, many have this problem and there is little shown to resolve it. I'm spending my free time trying to resolve the issue and feel like I'm back in the early days of having to create my own software solutions. Not sure that I have the time or energy to continue and maybe it would be better to return the product. Isn't there a better way out there to resolve the problem? Apple Support, where are you?

I entered the port forwarding information (Articles TS1453 and TS1392) after having no success with turning off all security firewalls and virus protection as well as ensuring both the router and ATV had the most recent software updates and having gone through all other trouble shooting suggestions listed by Apple. I have rebooted several times and reloaded iTunes 8. I actually have access to the internet through ATV but still have the problem of it not being recognized in iTunes. As mentioned before, the only things I haven't done is get into the startup items to eliminate them from consideration and tried a direct connect. I am able to ping the ATV successfully so I'm not sure why it won't show up in the iTunes search.
