Apple TV stuck @ startscreen after update (no remote)

Hello -
I have recently updated my Apple TV (2nd Gen) to the newest firmware. I no longer have the Apple TV remote. I now have a situation where the unit is stuck on the Getting Started / What's New screen and no way to advance to the main menu to pair with the remote app I have on my phone.
Do I have another option outside of buying a new remote? Seems like there should be some solution.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Here are some steps and notes to try:
MANY people are reporting they've had to try multiple micro USB cables to find one that works. I got one that worked from a neighbor.
For clarification, this needs to be a "micro" USB, not a "mini" USB
Some people have also reported they've had to try the Restore process more than once.
1. Unplug Apple TV and move it to your computer running latest version of iTunes.
2. Quit iTunes if running.
3. Plug micro USB cable to the back of the Apple TV.
4. Power the Apple TV using the AC cable.
5. iTunes shoud either launch itself (a good indication that the micro USB cable you're using is compatible), or launch iTunes.
6. Click Restore. Software will download and install (big file).

Apps stuck "waiting" after update - no solutions working

I have three apps that have been stuck "waiting" since my iPad crashed when they started installing (I think it was a full storage issue, which I have since resolved). I have tried all the solutions I have seen everywhere... fully rebooting the iPad, checking that there are no other pending downloads in the App Store or iTunes (in fact other updates have downloaded fine since), logging out of my Apple account, and even deleting the apps by going to Settings>General>Usage. After I deleted the apps, they stopped showing up in my list of apps in Settings>General>Usage>All Apps, but they still appear on my home screen and in the App Store as "waiting." I can't delete them from the home screen, because they stay grayed out and don't get an "x" on them when I make all the app icons wiggle. Any suggestions?

I think that may be part of the problem right there. Rather than deleting an app through Settings, delete it by holding it until it wiggles and then tap the X to nuke it. But now that you've deleted it the other way, this no longer works.
I'd suggest adding the apps back to your device, either through syncing or re-download, then delete them as I described above if they are still stuck in an update download, and then re-download them again.

Apple logo showing up after update...

Hi All, after updating to 7.0.3 is anyone getting the Apple logo (the white apple logo with a black background) every now and then? It shows up for me quite often and even showed up while making a call, which was interrupted
I reset it, restored it, anyone else having this weird issue?
This started right after i updated to 7.0.03

If you plugged it into iTunes and restored it from the computer and it is having the same issue... It may have a firmware problem and would most likely fall under apples warranty.

You ran a defective third-party "utility" such as "CleanMyMac" or "MacCleanse" that purports to "clean up" "junk" files. What it really does is to corrupt the operating system and many applications.
The first thing you need to do is remove that software according to the developer's instructions. Never install it, or anything like it, again. Then see below. If you use any iWork applications, you may need to delete them and redownload them from the App Store.
If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS.* You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need the backup unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
If you use FileVault 2, then before running the Installer you must launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the FileVault startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another icon with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar and enter your login password when prompted. Then quit Disk Utility to be returned to the main Recovery screen.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode. All other data will be preserved.
*The linked support article refers to OS X 10.10 ("Yosemite"), but the procedure is the same for OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later.

Sort problems in apple tv 2 events after updating to iphoto 9.2

After updating to iphoto 9.2 and iTunes 10.5 the following problem occurs in apple tv 2:
When I import new photos to iphoto on my new Mac Mini and watch them on apple tv 2, the according new event is shown in apple tv 2 as the last event on the very end (I sort fotos by name putting 201110..+day number on the beginning as event name in descending order). The older events do remaine in the correct order as before (up to an event called "20110924 Marriage ...". So I have to scroll down years on my apple tv 2 to reach the newest events. Only the newest events (since October "20111009 ...") are put to the very end. This is strange.
In iphoto itself everything is fine and in correct order.
I think it is a itunes or iphoto problem on my Mac Mini, because everything is still fine when watching photos from my MacBook Pro iPhoto Library via apple tv 2.
Does anybody have the same problem or know a solution? I already did all the "repair and rebuild things" in iphoto, but nothing helped.

Thanks for your helpful hint, but unfortunatly it did not solve the problem. I know, its rather difficult to explain:
I use the same order on MacBook Pro & Mac Mini (sorted by name in descending order). Both display the photos in iphoto correct as follows:
"20111009 London
20111008 Festival
20110924 Marriage
20110820 Summer
20110617 Italy
20110524 Spring
...etc...
20030101 Wintertrip"
But on apple tv 2 - only when using the Mac Mini as the source - the order is wrong like this (on apple tv 2):
"20110924 Marriage
20110820 Summer
20110617 Italy
20110524 Spring
...etc...
20030101 Wintertrip
20111008 Festival
20111009 London"
Using my MacBook Pro as source for the apple tv 2: everything is fine, the sort order on my apple tv 2 is correct. I imported "20111008 Festival" and "20111009 London" both after the update to iOS5, when I returned from London. I updated my Mac Mini, MacBook Pro and my apple tv 2 (ios5, iphoto 9.2 and iTunes 10.5).
I did another test and changed the sort order on the Mac Mini to be sorted by date and in ascending order. This had no effect to the way the photos are displayed on apple tv 2. The photos are still displayed wrong as described above ("20111008 Festival" and "20111009 London" are put to the very end). It seems, as if apple tv 2 does simple ignore the sort order given by Mac Mini. On apple tv 2 I have to scroll down to the very end to watch my Festival photos and my London photos.
I have two apple tv 2 and the problem is just the same. This is why I thought it might be a problem of my Mac Minis iphoto library or the way it is transmitted via iTunes.

Apple cinema Display problem after update

Immediately after updating to 10.4.11 and rebooting the toparea on my cinema display went dim and I saw the 2 short, one lon blinks on my power display LED
I didn't try it on another computer yet or try to change my power source but I may need a new backlight card as well. Please post if you have had similar problems after updating and suggest possible solutions.

Have you tried the Command-Option-P-R keys to reset the PRAM? (Maybe the upgrade has messed up the display settings?)

Error -1426 : Solid Apple logo on Iphone after update

Here's a new one. I went through and downloaded the 2.0 update about an hour ago. The update backed up the Iphone, then restored/updated it to 2.0. So far, so good! Then it got to the part where it looked like it was going to put back my own settings and files when it came back with "An error occurred while restoring this Iphone (-1426)" on my desktop in Itunes. This was immediately after my Iphone restarted and my passcode came up on the Iphone with my custom wallpaper behind it.
I thought maybe the update tripped up because I had a passcode on the phone at startup. So I put in the passcode and tried re-syncing, but got the same -1426 result. I restarted the Mac and tried syncing after it came back up, but got the same -1426 result.
At that point I ejected the Iphone from within Itunes. I saw the phone had the application update, but my photos and music were gone. My contacts were there as well as my calendar appointments.
I reconnected the Iphone and clicked on the Iphone icon under devices and hit CONTINUE when it said "an Iphone has previously been synced with this computer - do you want to restore". After a long progress bar filled up, the Iphone is now stuck with the Apple logo. No response from Itunes either.
I'm leaving it plugged in to see if it will resolve itself, but this doesn't look good. Any ideas? Should I unplug it after awhile? Force reset?

Last update - leaving the Iphone alone connected to Itunes seemed to work somewhat. It quit with an error after awhile, but the Iphone finally came back from the white apple logo. I'm still missing all my music and videos in the Ipod portion, but my photos, contacts, email, and bookmarks are back. Pretty much everything else but the music and videos. No big deal on that - after this update, I'll sync them manually and call it even.
I wonder if the Iphone password on startup was what caused the problem? Or maybe because I have part of my Itunes library on a external drive? That's the only two strange things I can think of. Everything else is plain-vanilla system config.

Apple tv not working after update to 6.0

After attempting to update Apple Tv 2 (3rd) to 6.0 and failing I was directed to plug it into itunes for a restore and upgrade which I did. It said it was completed successfully. I plugged it into the tv and turned it on. I get the apple logo on a black screen. I am holding down the menu and right buttons on the remote for at least 6 seconds. It just goes to the blue screen. Tried it several times. Trien unplugging Apple Tv and starting again. Same thing. Any help?

Well... after scratching my head and getting a few ideas from discussions I realized there problem probably began due to some loss of transmission between my PC, Apple TV, and my Router.
Some information I found online suggested that one possible solution was to reset/configure the internet firewall.
in my case I found the fact that somehow my primary internet browser, chrome, was corrupt and could no longer get to the internet. This originally happenned a week ago and I though nothinig of it to use my safari browser instead. Then is clicked. Itunes was probably trying to use chrome to get to the internet as well.
Solution: I removed Chrome from my PC and then was able to connect to ITUNES. Then I plugged the brick... lol AppleTV into my PC and restored it. The restore process did the update first and then reset everything to factory settings.
Everything works fine and it's all so much better. I'm getting better performance overall and I do see a difference. Before the update youtube videos would stall several times during playback and now.. it's streaming nice and smoothly! Purchases on Itunes radio work great as well. Perhaps AppleTV links direct to the router now rather than performing checks in the transmission via the PC - so it acts now as a truly standalone device?

Apple tv wont start after update

So i just turned my apple tv on and was informed I needed an update so I did this, i didnt actually watch it install I just left it while I did other stuff and after about ten mins looked at my tv and it was flashing no signal check power cables etc
The device is responsive to the remote in the sense that the little light flashes when i press a button
here is the best bit...when I unplug the device from the power source and reconnect it the little apple logo appears on the screen then disappears only to show the same no signal msg

Sounds like the update went badly.
Get a USB to microUSB cable, use that alone to connect the device to a computer running itunes and restore the device to latest software.

Apple tv stopped working after update

just updated apple tv, the remote app on the iphone 5 is now lagging, no airplay or mirroring of the iphone 5, no netflix, trailers lagging and my airvideo app just wont play on apply tv now.
Please do not say its my network as 5 mins before the update everything way working fine.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first form backup then as new). Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

Screen Sharing doesn't work after updating to Remote Desktop 3.6.1

Hi everyone!
I hope others can help. We just noticed this at two different schools today after upgrading to 3.6.1. We upgraded Admin and Client Apple Remote Desktop to ARD 3.6.1 today and now we cannot share our screens with the clients. It turns black, hangs, then returns the client to its original desktop.
We tried from a 3.5.1 admin machine, and it still works fine as it used to.
We feel like the issue is 3.6.1, but cannot find any support for the issue online.
Other troubleshooting steps:
1) emptied user and system Caches
2) restarted all units
3) tried 3.6.1 admin to 3.5.1 clients, no luck
4) tried 3.6.1 admin to 3.6.1 clients, no luck
5) checked for loops in the network, nothing.
We can perform most other tasks like controlling the clients and copying files, but not screen sharing.

All right! Total workaround here, and no fix, but at least we're able to Screen Share in ARD now. This is how we downgraded to 3.5.1 Admin in Apple Remote Desktop. The only hiccup that may not work for most is that you must have an older Remote Desktop file on hand. (hopefully from a computer that was not upgraded which was our case).
Here is what we did...
1) Login as an admin.
2) Throw out the Remote Desktop app (in Applications)
3) From another computer, drag in an old Remote Desktop app into your Applications folder
4) Throw out the "RemoteManagement" folder inside System/Library/CoreServices
5) From support.apple.com/downloads, download Remote Desktop 3.5.1 (both the Client and Admin installers).
6) Run the Admin install first, then the Client Install.
I did the above steps in two schools in a different order, but I wrote it this way to make it more streamlined. I never had to re-enter the Serial # or anything. Once I did the steps above, it just worked again.

Can't get the apple widgets to work after update

I have the same problem, but only with the apple widgets such as calculator, dictionary, weather and world clock. At some point I for some reason put them in the ~/library/widgets folder, and the problem arose when I installed 10.4.5 with the new updates. Putting the new ones in the folder and deleting the old ones did not help, nor did moving them back into the /library/widgets folder.

I suggest running the combo update for either .5 (again) or .6. And, as the previous poster suggested, repair permissions after the update/restart.

Apple TV not working after update

My Apple TV is not working after an update, shows an icon on my TV with an Apple USB pointing to the iTunes logo, after a minute it then goes blank and has "no signal" listed, worked fine before update, this version is 2nd generation I think, its black 2010 maybe '11. I have the HDMI, a non-Apple brand, plugged into my receiver and its on the correct setting. Can anyone help?

The update installation failed. It needs to be connected to iTunes on your computer via a USB cable to install the firmware agian.
