Apple TV suddenly wants to connect to iTunes?

Hello Apple Community,
As I wanted to use my Apple TV it suddenly started blinking and showing an image, which tells to connect the device to iTunes.
That's all fine for me but the thing is that there wasn't a micro USB cable within the purchase of the Apple TV. I tried to use one from my philips wireless headphones but that didn't work.
I'm always keen to apple products but expecting from a costumer to buy a new cable after a couple of weeks... that seems a bit over the top for me. At least they could have set it up in a way in which cables from the iphone, ipad or other apple devices work with the apple tv.
Am I now forced to buy one or is there another possibility?

This will be caused either by a corrupted update or other interruption within the users environment that puts the device into recovery mode. It's not something that impacts most users. The cable you used is either for charging only (not transferring data) or designed to only work with the headphones. If you don't have another cable they can be found cheaply.

That is weird. My Gen.1 Apple TV started to behave wonky a few days ago. It shows in the settings as being connected to iTunes, but I cannot access trailers, there are no settings to access iTunes in the menu either. It actually lost all of the local synced content and after a restart, everything copies over again. It is very sluggish and I have not tried to play a movie yet.
There appear to be a few threads on this, all within the last few days. I really like my old Gen.1 and want to keep it running. Help!

Hi i want to connect two itunes accounts. my old one with all my music is on my pc with one email address and i have a newish mac which has a different email account number. how do i move the old accounts music to the new one. thanks kellie

At this time you can not. Apple IDs can not be merged, and content purchased with one Apple ID can not be transfered to another. I suggest you keep using the original account. There is no need for you to create a new Apple ID for the iTunes Store just because your brought a new computer.

I must say I'm most frustrated by apple at the moment! I've tried everything that's been suggested by your so called APPLE Specialists/Bots regardless of my frustrations this is my problem both my itunes on my desktop and laptop or up to date and my ios is updated to on my iphone 5 so this rules out old software issues, my iphone 5 connects to the desktop but not my laptop so now i must leave the comfort of my living room to move all my files from my laptop to my desktop in order to have the files i want onto my iphone and yet this goes against apple policy as i remember apple is supposed to have this slogan that states simplicity for ios 7 yet im seeing nothing simple about been online for 3 hours trying to get a solution to my problem yet all that can be said it go check out iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for OS X

That is referred to recovery mode. At this point your only option is to restore to factory & then from a backup if you have one

You need to get the cable to restore the ATV to factory settings, following the procedure here.
USB mini cables are available from many different sources; often even from local stores like CVS or Walgreens. They are inexpensive, as little as a few dollars online & around $5 from some local discount stores.

you could try forcing it into recovery mode by turning it off, hold the home button and plug it into iTunes at the same time, keep holding the home button until iTunes says its detected a device that needs to be updated or restored. Then restore.

It seems as though you are describing two different things, unless you are trying to say that you cannot connect to the iTunes Store on through the phone. If that is correct, suggest you try and do a search, the question has been asked a great deal and answers can be found. Maybe even try and describe the error message you are seeing when trying to connect.

G3 click-wheel iPod suddenly janky when connecting to iTunes

Starting Monday(7/9), my reliable G3 20GB iPod all of a sudden had a hard time connecting to iTunes.(v7.3.0.?) Whenever I connect to Windows, it took a long time recognizing the iPod and even when Windows recognized it, iTunes took even longer. Eventually, iTunes would either crash or recommend reformatting the iPod. Even after doing so, it would still have difficulties, making iTunes/Windows stall. Once in awhile, connection would be successful, in which case the syncing would be problematic.(I listen to a lot of Podcasts)
I made an appointment at the Genius Bar on Tuesday(7/10) and they were no help. Eventually, they concluded that my iPod is dead and that I should just get another one. I walked out with my G3, looking like someone whose puppy had just died.
Today, I got an auto-update notice for a new update to iTunes.(v7.3.1.3) Once I did this, my iPod connected fine(after another round of reformatting) and no problems syncing.
So if anyone has had a similiar problem this week, I have a sneaky suspicion that it was related to the first version of iTunes that was released in preparation for iPhone. Maybe the new update released today fixed some bugs? Who knows. I just wanted to share in case this is helpful to some of you.

My iPod Classic is also sticking in verify then iTunes freezes. This only happened after iTunes was updated to 9.2. According to CCleaner's registry check, two problems appear - both are missing TypeLib References; the IUserHelper and the IiPodManagerUI. I can only assume that the latest iTunes is causing the trouble because of these missing files. This led to me completely reinstalling iTunes yesterday, but all that achieved was to empty my iPod and leave me library-less. The only way around it I can see is to wait for a new iTunes update. A real pain.

Apple TV 2 Won't connect to iTunes 11

I have the Apple TV 2 and am running iTunes 11 on two different computers. Home Sharing is enabled on all devices and everything is running on the same network with all software up to date.
If I start a movie on the computer in iTunes then have it stream with airplay, it will play perfectly fine on the Apple TV but when I try to access the movies to browse and play from the Apple TV without getting up and using the computer it doesn't show the computers on the main menu and when I select "Computers" on the main menu it says "Connecting to iTunes Library" for a minute or two then I get a screen that says "Cannot connect, make sure everything is on, updated and running on the same network."
This is getting really frustrating when I want to browse my movies from bed but instead have to go sit at the desk and select a movie to play. I never had this issue before the most resent updates.

I have pretty much the same problem. My Mac (7 days old) was working with the Apple TV just fine but tonight it will not do AirPlay nor will Apple TV play home share with the Mac either. Rebooting has no effect. Same error you are getting. When I try to play music (AirPlay) it is weak and intermittent at best and often simply does not play at all.
My ASUS laptop still works just fine as normal so Apple TV seems to be working just fine. Now I am wondering why I spent so much money on the Mac.
