Apple tv syncing but unable to stream
Hi. I have just tried to stream to my ATV. The ATV gives me the code but the ATV page (ie clicking on ATV in devices)in itunes isn't giving me the boxes to write the code. Any advice is appreciated.
I'm a newbie so it could be something very straight forward.
This is only partially correct. The exception is photos. If you sync with a computer, you cannot stream photos, only sync them. This is a HUGE error in the software!!! If you have only one computer, and you're syncing to a 40 gig Apple TV, but you have thousands photos you wish to view, your only option is to sync them. But you don't have enough hard drive on the Apple TV to hold all your photos, and still have space for renting or buying a few movies! So all you can do is sync some selected albums. This changed with the current software release, the original ATV software would sync or stream everything. If you Apple guys are listening, PLEASE fix this.

My content does not stream from my Mirror Door computer. I have read the article listed above but System Preferences, Sharing does not offer the firewall setup posted, even though it was posted December 08.
When I first set this up it worked fine now it syncs and does not stream. I have hard rebooted the Apple TV, I have disconnected it from my current iTunes and then went through the process of re-associating it with my iTunes. All are most recent versions. Everything works fine except for the portion of streaming from my computer. I have not a clue! Any ideas? Is there a preference file I should delete?

Once you have entered the passcode from the Apple TV on your Mac or PC to establish a syncing or streaming connection, the sync or steam of content may not work.

This can result from a firewall being enabled on your Mac or PC. If you have a firewall enabled, please make the following adjustments:
On a PC
Make sure the firewall is configured to allow TCP connections on port 3689. This will allow the transfer of content for syncing and or streaming to your Apple TV. If you use Windows Firewall, see "iTunes for Windows: Music Sharing With Windows Internet Connection Firewall " for detailed steps. If you use other firewall software, check the documentation for that software on how to open port 3689.
On a Mac
Open the Sharing System Preference (choose Apple > System Preferences and then choose View > Sharing).
Click on Firewall.
In the "Allow" field make sure the "iTunes Music Sharing" check box is checked. This will allow the transfer of content for syncing and or streaming to your Apple TV.
If you use other firewall or internet protection software, check the documentation for that software on how to open TCP connections on port 3689.
Note: If you use "fast user switching" on a Mac with firewall enabled you'll need to enable additional ports to allow streaming to Apple TV. If you don't, only the first user will be able to stream to Apple TV. For one additional user enable TCP port 49152. For each additional user, open the next incremental port (49153 for three users, 49154 for four users, 49155 for five users, etc.).
Follow these steps to add the necessary ports:
From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
From the View menu, choose Sharing.
Click the Firewall tab.
Click New.
From the Port Name pop-up menu, choose Other.
In the TCP Port Number(s) field, type in:
491452, 49153
This example allows for a total of three users. If you need more, enter the additional number(s) as described in the note above. If you need fewer, just enter the first number.
In the Description field type in: Extra Apple TV streams
Click OK.Click on the greyed out library and a dialogue telling you the library is unavailable will appear with an option to disconnect, I haven't actually tried this since if it does what I think it does it will delete my registration.
You may want to try the 'change library' option I mentioned before for the synced library, it may avoid you having to resync everything over.
Sync and stream are initiated from different ends, streaming doesn't work because you have changed your libraries and the tv no longer recognises them. I assume you moved your libraries over to your new mac, when you sync from itunes it uses the info from before you moved it and of course the tv is still the same tv so itunes recognises it and it will sync. -
ATV doesn't show up for syncing but does for streaming..
My ATV was sync'd successfully months ago with my iMac - but is not set up for auto sync.
Now I want to update the ATV library and want to sync again, but the ATV's Settings>Computers for the iMac sync'd library is greyed out and the ATV doesn't show up as a device on the iMac's iTunes panel. Here's a weird thing, though. If I click on 'Add Shared iTunes Library' on the ATV, the ATV immediately shows up in the iMac's iTunes devices panel. If I then enter the passcode, I can stream from the iMac ok - but, I really want to sync from it. (My MacBook behaves the same way - the ATV showing up for streaming, but disappears otherwise).
This proves I don't have a network connection problem, I guess, but why doesn't the iMac (or the MacBook) see the ATV normally? The iMac preferences are set to look for the ATV.
The ATV is wired into my TC router and the iMac/MacBook are wireless into the network. I updated the ATV software to 3.0.2 but it didn't affect the problem.If you last synced months ago, is there any possibility you've made a major iMac change like reinstalling the OS, or thta you might have synced using a different user on the imac? Could you have created a new iTunes library under that user, eg moving one to an external drive, as a new iTunes library would be different.
As you say network seems ok.
If the library name is there but greyed out AppleTV/iTunes are not detecting this is the same library for some reason.
Also check in iTunes Preferences - under the AppleTV tab - how many AppleTV's are listed 'known' to iTunes (connected or not)?
If you can navigate to the greyed out sync library (top entry of the lot in Computers) and try to select it you could remove it as the sync library, then remove the streaming entry below and try to re-add it as a sync library once more - this will however wipe AppleTV content to prepare for a fresh sync. -
Apple TV Syncing But Not Connecting To Internet!

My Apple TV is syncing with my iMac just fine over WiFi. But for some reason it can't connect to the Internet on its own. The problem with this is that YouTube no longer works!
Prior to installing Leopard, the Apple TV worked just fine, and didn't have a problem connecting to the Internet automatically on its own. So what's changed? If anyone can help me I'd appreciate it, 'cos YouTube was one of the main things I used on it.I still can't connect. On my Network Settings screen it says:
IP Address: DHCP 169.25.**.
Router Address: N/A
DNS Address: N/A
When the Internet used to work with the Apple TV, I don't remember seeing DHCP in the IP Address field. I also don't remember both the Router Address and DNS Address being unavailable. -
I have an iphone 5 and and ipad3 which I wish to sync.
I went to Apple store and tech unable to do this - wasn't happening and said there was an icloud problem and to go on line to find out, as they didn't do icloud issues in the store.
I've backed up my phone in the meantime.
I want to be able to read my kindle books and access contacts between these items.
Another question, I brought more icloud storage, but iphone is not saving to icloud as well.phone will not back up as says not enough storage - keh?
Appreciate any assistance on these two things.
I have another appointment with Apple store end of this week.
Last time they also said I may need to have my iphone replaced - this would then be my thrid iphone in 4 months! First iphone the camera didn't work (lucky I found out on second day and automaticallly replaced).
This iphone is doing black screens, will not ring (despite techy trying to get phone to ring - YET the alarm works fine to wake me up). Phone vibrates but won't ring, even though set to ring.
Appreciate any help with icloud issue mainly.
I think I'm feeling a bit fatalistic I will end up with yet another replacement phone.
I am very disappointed as this is m first introduction to the iphone - not going well so far.

I have changed my apple ID through computer. But unable to change my apple ID in my i phone. How to do that?
Depends on what you want to change the ID for. To change the ID...
To change the ID:
For iMessage, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID sign out, sign back in using the other ID.
For FaceTime, do the same thing in Settings>FaceTime.
For Purchasing, do this in Settings>iTunes & App Stores.
For iCloud, you'll have to delete the account, create a new account with the other ID, and migrate your data to the new account. Before deleting the account, if you have any photos in photo stream that are not in your camera roll or backed up somewhere else save these to your camera roll or you will lose them. To do this, open the photo stream album in the thumbnail view, tap Edit, tap all the photos you want to save, tap Share, then tap Save to Camera Roll. Once this is done, go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account. When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data, be sure to select Keep On iPhone. Next, set up a new iCloud account using a different Apple ID (if you don't have one, tap Get a Free Apple ID at the bottom). Then turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On, and when prompted about merging with iCloud, choose Merge. This will upload the data to the new account. -
I am unable to stream Netflix to my Iphone or Apple TV, from my wireless router . . . even though I am able to watch Netflix on my WII (also wireless) and desktop computer (not wireless).
On the Iphone and Apple TV I can connect to Netflix . . . it recognizes me and my account settings . . . and I can veiw all my recent programs and show titles, descriptions, etc.. But when I select one to watch I get a message saying:
"ERROR A PROBLEM OCCURED WHILE PLAYING THIS ITEM. TRY AGAIN LATER, OR SELECT A DIFFERENT ITEM. GO TO WWW.NETFLIX.COM/SUPPORT FOR MORE INFORMATION. (139)
Netflix support say there is nothing wrong on their end . . . that it is an Apple issue. They see the request for the show, the devices are registered . . . but it shows 0 bandwidth to the device.
My Apple TV did this when I first hooked it up a couple of weeks ago. Then after a few days started working with Netflix, for no apparent change . . . now doesn't again for the past couple of days (I think that it auto restarted the other night after a virus scan).
Very frustrating, and driving me nuts! Has anyone else had and been able to resolve this problem?Troubleshooting
Apple TV2 update one day and netflix is browsing but not launching the actual content (error 139)
Ipad2 (another ios device) forces me to update netflix if I want to use it and I get the same error 139 on it.
**** now I have two not ways not working where prior to some update it was fine.
Nintendo Wii is still working ( mind you running an ancient version of netflix ) Dusted the Wii off and gave it to the kids use. Now they are happy again...
PC is also still working ( using some other flash client ) but that's just of interest, we're not going to be watching tv with that.
My wife's iphone 4s is still working. Odd.. still ios but for somereason I am not forced to update the version. So basically she could mirror stream up to the apple tv with it. Nice feature of Ios5. Later found out it is using 1.4 version of netflix. The most useful thing out of that is that all 3 of the devices are Ios and it was actually the iphone with the 1.4 version of netflix that still worked!
I heard from a friend who was on a different ISP he was still working so I took my appletv2 and ipad2 over to my brothers house who is on that same ISP as my friend and both started working. So the ISP is involved too!
Brought the appletv2 and ipad2 back to my house hoping it would maybe still work. No dice Broken again.
Searched the appstore for a decent packet analyzer and there isn't really anything. I was able to sniff the traffic with my PC and also on my juniper ssg5 confirmed that. Turns out port 80 traffic is actually failing and authorization is not happening. The other clients do not do this...
Asked a buddy from work who used to work at the ISP if he could make a call to some one who might actually know what is going on. He came back pretty quick and said yea they are trying really hard to get the beta patch in from Bluecoat asap.
So knowing that it was actually Netflix that changed when it hit 2.0 and in my case the ISP made the adjustment it's pretty safe to say this issue is going to be ongoing unless netflix changes again the way they authorize for licenses.
So that's the summary of what went right down the troubleshooting path but I'll tell what what didn't
2 calls to Netflix (useless... waste of time... they are too quick to blame anyone but themselves)
1 call to apple support (support call was going to cost more than it cost for me to change ISPs)
2 calls to ISP (through the normal means - regular support number)
So why is this intermittantly working sometimes? If you are lucky enough to authorize to an IP address that is not cached they voila you are going to get an authorization / a license to watch the show. Some people report after defribulating their appletv (reseting, rebooting, dns changes, you name it) they get it working. Over the past month we all seem to have got it working for some period of time only to lose it a day to two later.
It's now been several days since the beta patch to the bluecoat and 4 of us who have been communicating on the issue appear to be online all at the same time for those several days and that is a good sign that we might be out of the woods on the issue.

i have 2 apple ids and one is from years ago when icloud wasnt a thought but now somehow it became my primary apple id and i cant photo stream with the apple id i use. Even if im signed into my old one the photo stream doesnt automatically go to my mac. Im not exactly technology savy but id love to figure this out.
I have also noticed the same "problem". I do not fully understand the impact of using the same ID on multiple computers and devices if I want to keep them all in sync.

I, too, am looking for the same answer. Since I created my first Apple ID when I purchased an Apple G4 computer, my login has always been the first part of my email address. When setting up my iPad for "Find my iGadget", I was required by that login to change my Apple ID to the full email.
Now, any attempt to use iTunes, App Store, or whatever, from my iPad defaults the ID to the old one, with no way I have found to change it.
Since the rest of Apple Corp is just fine with the change, and everything linked to the old one is now linked to the new one, I doubt one is required to use the old one in iTunes for anything. Fact of the matter, the whole issue is that it recognizes that the old ID no longer in existence. There just is no intuitive way to make it all better. -

Help, I can't sync any music to my iPhone 5s or iPad 2 ! it says it's finished sync but the music is greyed out and not on my devices.. I've tried unchecking the music and doing it manually. Nothing works. I took it to Apple store Robina no help..
So I have found a common denominator to this phenomenon. After having the same problem, I started to recopy my playlist of 500+ songs in groups of 10-20, 30+, 75+, and then over a 100+. Any music I have purchased from iTunes won't copy, but everything else did. Unsure if I made a playlist called "Purchased" at some point or this is an iTunes default, I also noticed it had some of the songs contained in my other playlist and was showing on my iPhone. Regardless of what I did such as dragging music from that playlist to the other and clearing songs from that playlist, I removed it altogether from the iPhone itself vs. doing through iTunes. After that, music copied fine to my playlist.
So, my theory is that iTunes is getting tripped up on purchased tracks already showing on the phone and all songs are showing grayed out/dotted circle because iTunes can't resolve the conflict with purchased tracks.

If you look at Settings > iCloud on each phone, is the Account different? The Apple ID listed there should control iCloud storage allocation. [I assume your "icloud purchase" was more storage capacity.]
The Apple ID is separately specified to control iMessage, iTunes and App Store purchases, etc. -
Can multiple iPhones share one iTunes without syncing the phones together? We just got new iPhones and set up seperate apple id's, but don't know if we can both sync to our existing iTunes without linking our phones together (contacts, apps, etc) ????

How to reset your Apple ID password.

i and my brother have different apple id's but are using the single itunes library on our home PC.When i am syncing my iphone most of the times the apps that were purchased with my brothers apple id is also getting on my iphone.
How do i differentiate the apps that were purchased with my apple id and sync accordingly.As i want only the apps that were purchased in my apple id.
I am aware of the fact that i can click on the app and check with "getinfo" to see with whose apple id it is brought.but there are hundreds app which i cannot check one by one.
