Apple tv takes forever (over 10 hours)

over 10 hours to download movie on the new apple tv. I could do it in less that 2 hours on my older apple tv, why

Welcome to the Apple Community.
Could the difference be that one is downloading SD whikle the other is downloading HD.
The first thing to check would be your internet download speed, you can do this at www.speedtest.net.
HD movies require a recommended speed of 6 Mbps, while SD movies require a recommended speed of 2.5 Mbps.

  • HT1551 Apple TV is taking over an hour to activate, is this normal?

I am trying to set up my new apple tv, and it is stuck activating.  it has been doing it for over an hour.  how long should it take?  what is normal?  Should I exchange it?

I  started to have the problem when I was trying to sync 1Password after first loading Yose...and before I set up iCloud Drive via systems preferences. I fixed it by quitting the set up and re-booting a couple of times and starting over from system preferences/icloud.  When I quit the set-up I just ok'd the warnings about not being able to access iCloud data. But not-to-worry all data seems to be available.

  • Why is my Apple ID still disabled when supposedly  was fixed by apple httsupport this am over 12 hours agora dithery said it would be disabled no longer then 8 hours and I still am unable to buy anything in the I tunes store or pay for any apps or games

Why is my Apple ID still disabled when supposedly it was fixed by Apple ID support over the phone  this am over 12 hours ago and they  said it ( my Apple ID and password) would be disabled no longer then 8 hours and I still am unable to buy anything in the I tunes store or pay for any apps or games.

We are fellow users here on these forums. Have you tried logging out of your account on your iPad by tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store and then logged in and seeing if it then works ?

  • Ever since I updated to the latest version of Premiere Pro my video is taking FOREVER (over 20 hours) to export.

the video is only 20 minutes long. I've exported longer videos in less than 2 hours before so I have no idea what the issue is. The first time I tried to export this same video it started at saying remaining time was around 8 hours, went all the way down and finally finished and then said it there was an error in the export after 8 hours and the exported video wasn't there. So I decided to try the exporting process again, and last night before bed it said about 8 hours to export again. I just woke up and now it's still not finished (over 8 hours later) and NOW the remaining time is over 20 hours!!!! Does anyone else have these issues?

  • Sign-in into apple account takes forever

Had a problem today whereby I got the Error_status_code by trying to sign into my account. Re-installed my software and all was fine, except, it takes me now forever to sign-in. Has anyone else has the same issues with signing into the apple account but it takes long?

As per the Apple iCloud status page, they are having issues. Do not make changes at your end.

  • Why does do Apple discussions take forever to load on MBP compared to PC?

I am sitting at a lab computer (PC) and realized that my MBP loads discussions.apple.com super slowly. What's the reason? Is it Safari? Cause I find that Safari loads up pretty quickly, but once in operation, it's pretty slow actually.

I'm with Ian on this one. I use a PC at work and a MBP at home and when the servers are behaving, I see very little difference in page loading speed. The servers have been horrible in the past week or so, slow and going off-line quite often. They seem to be better yesterday and today.

  • Loading local video with Apple TV takes forever

Today i bought a film in iTunes store.
Downloaded it w/ iTunes - so i got i locally (got only a small bandwidth)
Then i tried to view that film using my Apple TV.
I can browse all my local media, but when i try to start the film from Apple TV it loads and loads and loads ...
When i start the film directly in iTunes and display it in Windows everything's fine.
When i try to stream it to Apple TV - using iTunes from my Win7 PC - nothing. It won't even start.
    Equipment:
    MS Windows 7 / 64
    HD film
    iTunes 12.0.1.26
Apple TV current version, up to date software
    What's wrong?

    If on wifi try ethernet
Go to netstumbler or similar to get a network report. Look for signal strength, noise, nearby networks.

  • Why does my Apple TV take 3 hours to update, only to tell me, "The update was not successful?"

My Apple TV takes forever to update, an then tells me "The update was unsuccessful." What can I do? It's connected to my network via Ethernet.

Slow Internet connection is one possibility.

  • Do apple devices take priority (in bandwidth) over non-Apple devices?

When I use even 1 of my Apple devices at home, my housemate's PC slows down or even freezes. When I use a PC laptop, it also slows down or freezes, until I turn off all of my Apple devices.  (I have an iMac, iPad, iPhone and iPod.)
My housemate says she heard that Apple devices "hog" the bandwidth, i.e., take priority over non-Apple devices.  I didn't want to believe this, but after doing some experiments with shutting my devices off and on, while using a PC, it kinda looks like she is right.
    My questions:
    1) Is it true that Apple devices take priority over non-Apple devices when it comes to using bandwidth?
    2) Is there anything i can do to change this?  I like my housemate, and I don't want her to leave.  (Also, I appreciate the rental income.)  Also, I like my Apple devices.
    3) Do you know if switching Internet service providers would help?  (We have Comcast.)

    1) Is it true that Apple devices take priority over non-Apple devices when it comes to using bandwidth?
It is often reported.. but this kind of thing has been going on since wireless came along.. partly due to how many different manufacturers we have of wireless gear.. and the fact they all make stuff according to the code IEEE produce (cough, gollum, gollum!!) with their own little gidgets on side.
Apple systems are propriety.. they are designed to work with apple products.. and maybe windows.. as long as they don't use intel wireless cards or realtek or some others.. and the drivers are compatible.. and the moon is full and you hold your tongue on the left side of your cheek.
    2) Is there anything i can do to change this?  I like my housemate, and I don't want her to leave.  (Also, I appreciate the rental income.)  Also, I like my Apple devices.
Yes, it is very simple.. buy a $30 TP-Link wireless N-Lite router and use it as an AP plugged into your apple router.
    3) Do you know if switching Internet service providers would help?  (We have Comcast.)
Has nothing to do with ISP.. but if you already have a wireless router gateway from your ISP use the wireless on that for your housemate.

  • Takes forever to load YouTube or anything else. Network works fine on iPad and iPhone.

My new Apple TV takes forever to load up you tube or any content
Using wifi.  My network is fine and all other devices have no issue
Loading same content. I have updated the latest software
    and did not help.

Spent 1.5 hours with a Senior Apple Advisor. Apple practically turned my iMac inside out determining nothing is wrong.  He said the key phrase to tell Verizon and earthlink is that the ping does not respond.  Ports 110 & 587 do not respond.
1 hour with a Verizon rep who initiated a 3 way call with earthlink.
2 hours with an earthlink person who claims the only ports to use are the ones I have.  I don't believe that.
    Problem is still not solved.
At this point earthlink has opened a ticket and is supposedly looking into this.  I do not have much hope of a response from them.
Does anyone have an alternative mail client to rec'd?

  • Why does printing a pdf take more than one hour?

Printing a single page from a pdf document (simple text) takes well over one hour. Surely, this can't be normal. Is this a known bug or is something wrong with my setup? Is there a solution/workaround?
    Mac OS X 10.7.3, Canon MP550 printer.

The size of the document is 15.3 MB. I only needed to print one single page from that document, which took me about 70 minutes.
For the record it is possible to have a large text-based PDF. What can increase the file size is the presence of images in the document. I have a training document I created in Word with lots of screen grabs that is 17MB. After converting it to PDF using Acrobat Pro the resulting PDF is 9.6MB. I also have a Snow Leopard manual - one of the David Pogue missing manuals - that is 15.2MB. So a large PDF file does not automatically mean it is image-based as has been suggested. And even if it was image-based file, which is usually TIFF encoded for b&w and JPEG encoded for colour documents, a single page of that document should not take that long to print.
With the document open in Acrobat you can select File > Properties and under the Description section you will see what application created the document and under the Advanced section you will see what application was used to create the PDF. This will give you some insight into the type of document you have. But if you did not create this PDF then there is not much you can do anyway.
If the same single page prints fine using Preview, then there could be a print setting in Acrobat that is causing the long delay. One setting is located in the Advanced print dialog menu. With the print dialog window open, you will see the Advanced button (outlined in red).
With the Advanced setting window displayed you will see the setting "Print as Image". Having this enabled can dramatically increase the file size of the document to be printed.

  • Once rental in iTunes, ATV takes forever to download/play

I download movie rentals or tv shows in iTunes on my computer, but Apple TV takes FOREVER to download from the shared computer! I can't watch a movie in one go-- it pauses to download and takes forever. How do I avoid this? It never used to happen! Since I can download the movies in normal time frames, the internet speed is not the issue.

  • HT1577 It takes over an hour to download a movie to apple tv!

According to the estimated download chart, a movie should take 18-24 mins over a 5Mbps internet connection. I've been waiting for over an hour and my apple tv is saying another hour +!
I have changed my settings to only allow standard def videos and yes I've updated the software on the ATV. This is totally REDICULOUS! Apple, clearly there are ways to make this content transfer quicker. What gives?

Download finally done. Choppy... as in unwatchable and the sound doesn't match the video. How do I get the money on my acount back? First go at itunes and well, once is more than enough. *****, ***** *****!!!!
