  • Movies rented on Apple TV, not synching back to iTunes?

I thought I understood that movies you rent from the Apple TV 2.0 would synch back to iTunes and be available to watch on the Macintosh or from there could be synched to a current iPod for viewing. (For 24 hours once the movie is started on any device, or for 30 days which ever comes first.)
I took the Apple provided update to Apple TV (40GB) so now I am on version 2.0. I took the iTunes update to 7.6. My Apple TV seems to sync just fine with my iTunes library, i.e. otherwise couldn't be happier with the product.
I launched iTunes on my Mac; my Apple TV appeared as a device and then went back to my TV and rented a movie directly from Apple TV interface and watched it immediately. That process went just as Apple described it should, i.e. very smooth. However, immediately after watching the movie, I checked iTunes for rented movies (devices: Apple TV, Movies tab, and didn't see it. In the Rented movie section of the screen it said, "There are no rented movies in your iTunes library that can be transferred to this Apple TV." This is correct, but I just thought somewhere I would see the movie I had rented from the Apple TV within my iTunes. I tried proactively hitting the synch button; nothing. Went to the Movies library; nothing.
Perhaps I misunderstood the process as described by Apple (Steve Jobs 2008 MacWorld keynote) and the process really doesn't work in the ATV to iTunes direction. But I'm hoping there is something simple I missed in my settings in either iTunes or Apple TV to enable this to work.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you so much! I was under the wrong impression about moving movies rented on the Apple TV back to the computer. The forum has come through for me three out of three times I have posted question. Thanks again!
*Can I play my rental on more than one device?*
If you download a rented movie on your computer, you can transfer it to your Apple TV, iPod, or iPhone. Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only be viewed on one device at a time. *If you rent the movie on your Apple TV, it is not transferable to any other device and you must watch it on your Apple TV.*

  • How can I delete songs from iphone 4s without the songs synching back with itunes?

How can I delete songs (forever) from iphone 4s without the songs synching back with itunes automatically?
My settings are , handle songs manually.
    Best regards PelleRPG

I did this with about 100 songs, and the problem is everytime I connect my iphone with itunes, It will automatically sync back every single song I did delete on the phone by swiping.
I did search on google and found out that serveral people has this problem. The songs wont delete from itunes library.
So why do they even make this function if it only deletes the songs for a short time?
    Best regards PelleRPG.

  • Apple TV not syncing back to itunes

    Strange things happening here...
At some point I bought a song on my apple tv. When syncing to itunes, I got a message saying the song could not be synced (i guess it was corrupt, but I checked "don't show this message again", so I can't reproduce the error message).
Now, every time I start itunes, it tries to sync with atv, but always tries to sync the corrupt file and fails.
Not too big of a problem, but somehow the atv doesn't sync back to itunes at all, since the 10 other songs I bought since then, seem to have the same problem of not syncing back to itunes, although itunes seems to try and sync for approx. 45 secs or so...
    Now, a few questions :
    1) How do I get itunes to show the error message again, so I can check if the new songs have the same problem.
    2) How can I delete the 1 song that started all this trouble from atv ?
    3) In the worst case scenario, how do I format the atv, so I can start from scratch again?
    Thanks

OK, just posting this because it might help others...
This afternoon, I got ready to call the local apple support, and with the phone in my hand I started up itunes.
And you won't believe this, but it synced beautyfully, in both directions ...
    What the * ?
There has only been 1 change on my mac, and that's the installation of the latest security update !!!
So my calculated guess would be, that the last security update closed certain ports, that atv needs to sync back to itunes, and that this security update opened those ports again...
I can only hope the next update won't f*ck things up again.
Anyway, my problem is solved, and I hope a lot of others out there are fine too after installing the 2009-001 security update.

  • Apple TV loses synched Photos after iTunes restarts

Everytime I restart my iTunes Server ( Mac mini with iTunes program- attached external drive with iTunes content) all my synched photos on Apple TV are gone and I have to synch again. Happened also before Apple TV 3.0. Why?

I have the same problem with my setup (all Mac OS versions, all Apple TV versions) since I purchased it back in March of 2009. Since then I have gone through all the different versions of Mac OS and the Apple TV OS and I am now on the newest version of everything involved (Apple TV, iTunes, MacOS and iPhoto). Nevertheless, this problem persisted the whole time.
I just got off the phone with Apple and they would look into it if I pay for a one-time support event ($49 or something) since my Apple TV is passed the initial 90 day warranty. If somebody is having this same problem and is within the first 90 days after the purchase or has the Apple Care package for the Apple TV you can call AT NO COST and get this fixed. Can anybody do that and help everybody with this problem? If you have support you can call them or ask them to call you right away, it certainly would be a great help to everybody.

  • I inherited a 3GS with music that wasn't all purchased from iTunes. I am trying to synch back to iTunes so I can add to my iPad2 but can't seem to do it.

Can it actually be done or am i wasting my time?

cannot be done.  By design, when you synch the phone with a different iTunes library, it will wipe the phone and replace what's in the current iTunes library on the computer
This is to prevent music stealing, which is what you're trying to do:  use someone else's music.

  • Re eBooks added to an iPad, what determines whether it will be sync'd back to iTunes?

I'm trying to figure out the rules of the road for back-syncing from an iOS device such as an iPad and the iTunes.app on a Mac or Win desktop machine.  In particular, I  am interested in ePub-based eBooks gotten from sources other than the iBookstore.  There are a number of possibilities:
o Sideloading to the iOS device via iTunes.app with "Manually manage music and videos" selected.  With this setting, one can drag and drop an eBook onto the device in the Devices listing in iTunes.app.  The ePub files transferred to an iOS device this way do not seem to be sync'd back to the iTunes.app on MacOS X regardless of the status of the "Manually manage ..." setting.  The Calibre eBook library management app has a similar direct transfer function.
o Using Safari for iOS, one can tap on a hyperlink to an eBook on a properly configured HTTP server (proper MIME Type declared for the .epub suffix) and be prompted to hand it off to iBooks or another app that iOS thinks might be able to handle it.  The ePub files transferred to an iOS device this way appear to get synched back to iTunes.app on the MacOS X desktop if "Manually manage ..." is not selected.
o I don't believe that the iBooks.app supports OPDS catalogs so that's not a point of entry.  Anyone know otherwise?  However, there is an iOS app called "eBook Search" that does and it will hand off ePub documents located in OPDS catalogs to iBooks using the same interface as Safari on iOS.
o An iTunes U public site via the Podcasts.app or an iTunes U Course via the iTunes U.app will download ePub books and hand them off to iBooks.
There are probably more ways than I have discovered to get ePub documents into the iBooks.app on iOS without involving either the iBookstore or  the iTunes.app.  So the question is, "What do I tell my students who are on a scavenger hunt for free, unencumbered (no DRM) ePub documents?  They will want to know what will happen after they get them on their iOS devices?  Under what circumstances will they be kept, erased, copied back to iTunes.app (or iCloud) and so on?
I have not yet found any Apple documentation on this important question.  Any leads will be appreciated.

    Recovery Mode
    1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
    Note: Data will be lost.

  • Apple TV not syncing purchases back to iTunes

My Apple TV is not syncing purchases back to iTunes. All music and TV shows I've purchased through Apple TV since the upgrade to ATV 2.0 is still not showing up in iTunes.
In iTunes, when I click on Apple TV in the left pane I see only the "Summary" and "Photos" tabs. On the main Summary window there is no button to "Sync" Apple TV. Neither are there any options for setting this up in iTunes Preferences, or in any of the on-screen settings in Apple TV itself. I can stream content just fine, I just don't see how to enable syncing back and forth. Am I missing something?
    Many thanks for your input!
    Tom

Any idea how to get ATV to sync with iTunes? Is there some way to enable syncing to move purchased ATV content over to iTunes? I was under the assumption that this should happen automatically with 2.0. I also recall with ATV 1.0 that I DID at one point disable syncing in favor of streaming, and perhaps this setting somehow transferred over to ATV 2.0 ?
Funny, others on this forum are trying to disable the automatic transfer of ATV content to iTunes, while I'm trying to get it to work!

  • Apple TV movie purchase doesn't sync back to iTunes

I'd recently purchased a movie directly from within Apple TV but it is not synchronizing back to iTunes. The content on my computer synchronizes correctly to the Apple TV but my purchases and rentals are not synchronizing back the other way.
I've tried removing the synchronization settings from both the computer and the Apple TV and then setting it back up again. My music synchronizes over but -- again -- my movie sits happily on the Apple TV but not in iTunes.
When I look at the movie on the Apple TV, it has the little trash can indicator next to it.
I'm using Apple TV 2.1 and iTunes 7.7.1 (on a MacBook Pro).
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

I have a similar issue. Just got an Apple TV and synced it to iTunes on MacBook Pro and everything worked fine - got about 7gb of photo and music content synced to ATV without any issues.
However, when I purchased a TV episode on ATV, the whole setup is stuck. Every time I start a sync on iTunes, it tries to sync the purchased file (about 500mb) from ATV to iTunes first, before getting to the photos and music sync in the other direction. The problem is that iTunes completely hangs in about 20-30% into the copy process, with the coloured wheel mouse cursor running infinitely.
I've now upgraded the software components (ATV to 2.2, iTunes to 8.0.1), tried removing the ATV relationship to computer and adding it back again, restarting both ATV and MBP in the process, also removed com.apple.itunes.plist as some forum suggested. Nothing, it ends still in the same place. I am yet to do a full reset to ATV, as I'd prefer not to loose the purchased file, which I do not have any copies of outside the ATV.
Through the attempts the ATV now is empty of any photos/music that were synced to there before, there is just the one sad little purchased episode. And I can not add anything back, as iTunes always starts with the purchase sync... which fails.
One thing some sites are hinting to but I haven't quite understood is the notion of primary and secondary iTunes Store authorizations. The iTunes account I use was created on a separate PC version of iTunes. However, the MBP is authorized too and I've used it to add credit, etc.
    Any thoughts?

  • All Purchase made from Apple TV will not transfer back to iTunes

After I had purchase movies, and TV shows, they just stay on the Apple TV. I was not able to transfer them into the iTunes.
I tried to transfer these movie or TV shows purchase by Selecting from iTunes File->Transfer Files from Apple TV, but it failed

try un-authorising and the re-authorising your itunes library.
that's what fixed it for me when mine started not auto-syncing content back to itunes.

  • Ive deleted movies from itunes which has removed them from apple tv, i still have them on my ipad, is there any way i can get them back into itunes?

ive deleted movies from itunes which has removed them from apple tv, i still have them on my ipad, is there any way i can get them back into itunes?

If the movies were rentals then no.
If the movies are purchases and you have the iTunes 10.4 then you should be able to access the 'cloud' option from in the main iTunes page  - purchases - (upper right corner) and go from there.
You should also have the option to transfer purchases from the iPad back into iTunes. I don't have an iPad but you can transfer purchases from the iPod/iPhone back to iTunes.

  • Apple TV doesn't synch back purchases

There are literally thousands of people out there who are having the same problem as I am. If you've purchased any content from the iTunes store via Apple TV, you may wonder why some of these purchases are not syncing back to your computer. If you open up the iTunes application on your computer, go down to the second section entitled "STORE." It is there you will find a few folders, and one is entitled "Purchased on Apple TV." The problem starts here. Any and all of the content that you purchased via Apple TV should be listed here. However, the fact is, your purchases that are not syncing back are not listed here.
I have searched high and low on the Apple Discussions boards for answers. Many, many people are struggling with this issue. To date, the only thing I've seen that is legit on how to fix the problem is to do a hard reset on Apple TV. This is unacceptable in my opinion, because you will loose all the content/data on your Apple TV. And one of the reasons we are all here -- reading this post right now -- is because we want the content to reside on our computer as a backup.
You can try all the suggestions out there, like re-authorizing your computer via iTunes, messing around with the ports on your firewall, etc., etc. But, if your content is not showing up in the folder mentioned above, you're pretty much screwed.
I'm hoping that someone from Apple will read this post. I'm challenging Apple to step up to the plate and admit that this is a known bug. And by acknowledging this, they should give us an ETA on a fix. We all love Apple products, that's why we own them and are here. But, we are paying customers who are having a serious problem that needs to be fixed asap!
Anyone else who wants to share their thoughts and experiences, please do so....

Some months ago I purchasewd a couple of albums via AppleTV - the next day nearly all my content on AppleTv had gone - the recent purchases were not on AppleTV.
Fortunately they seemed to have synced back to iTunes before this event, but had this not been the case I would have lost the purchases. It's not happened since but I now almost exclusively buy via iTunes as I don't trust Apple TV with directly purchased content. I have to rent HD via AppleTv, but for other things I just feel more comfortable purchasing via iTunes as I know I can directly access the files for backup.
I've no idea what caused my 'glitch' but had I lost the purchases I'd have been quite annoyed as there's no guarantee Apple would let you download again.
I think if your issue happened to me I would contact itunes store support and explain the issue and ask them to re-enable the download but via iTunes not AppleTv. iTunes support are sometimes very helpful, but don't always seem to grasp the problem!
Have you sent feedback on your issue directly to:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/appletv.html
which is the official feedback mechanism?
Relevant Apple people may or may not read posts in the forum so it's always best to use the link above for formal feedback.
