Apple TV to the interactive whiteboard I'm getting "snow"

When I hooked up the Apple TV to the interactive whiteboard I'm getting "snow" and intermittently see what I'm supposed to see with the Apple TV? I have set up 30 other Apple TVs exactly the same way without any issues. I have unhooked and rehooked but no difference. It worked previously in the school year; however I need to change WIFI code and it is not working properly now.

Welcome to the Apple community.
That sounds like the HDMI connection, are you able to test elsewhere with another cable.

  • Mirroring with Apple TV to an Interactive Whiteboard

I'm using the latest gen Apple TV and want to mirror my MacBook Pro to an Interactive Whiteboard. It mirrors okay but I want the display output to almost fill the entire screen. The 2 choices don't give me any better options, is there a work around sop as to increase output size?

not unless the board like most tv's support streghing the image or zoom with chop top and bottom

Unplug it and let unit go dead. Then hold your Home button down and plug the USB power cord back in. iTunes should see it and then restore.

  • Apple TV on Interactive Whiteboard with no sound?

Working in a school, iPads and Apple TV are a vital part of day to day lessons. We connect Apple TV to the HD projectors in each room for Airplaying purposes on the iPads. When it is mirroring on to the projector, and on to the Whiteboard, we can get a sound output from the audio of the projector itself, but not from the new speakers linked up to the Interactive Whiteboards. We have tried changing the audio output settings as there was no sound initially, and have been successful as far as getting sound coming from the projector. However the sound level is too low and quality is too poor compared to the new speakers attatced to the whiteboards.
I was wondering if there is any way to have the sound coming out of the new speakers rather than the projector so children can share their work they have created with good audio.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

When I connect the ATV to the receiver, (so the ATV is no longer connected to the tv), no matter what input setting I set for the receiver, the tv shows "No Signal" and of course, no sound of a movie track. The only way I see the movie is for the ATV to be connected to the HDMI3 jack on the tv, then I see the movie but no matter what I set the receiver input to I get no sound.  Perhaps the receiver should be set to "multi-ch" but then I don't know how to select one of the supposed multi-channels.  Does thaat make sense to you?  It's Greek to me!!!

  • My mac froze in an application so I shut it down by powering off with button, now when I try to turn it on I have a grey screen with Apple loge and the timer swirling but it doesn't get past this, please help!

I Shut down my Mac by holding in the power button after my iMac froze and now when I try to turn it back it on all I get is the grey screen with Apple loge and the timer and doesn't get any further.  I have tried the diagnostic test but nothing was found.

Take each of these steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved.
To restart an unresponsive computer, press and hold the power button for a few seconds until the power shuts off, then release, wait a few more seconds, and press it again briefly.
    Step 1
The first step in dealing with a startup failure is to secure the data. If you want to preserve the contents of the startup drive, and you don't already have at least one current backup, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data that has changed since the last backup, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to start. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
    a. Start up from the Recovery partition, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) When the OS X Utilities screen appears, launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.” The article refers to starting up from a DVD, but the procedure in Recovery mode is the same. You don't need a DVD if you're running OS X 10.7 or later.
    b. If Step 1a fails because of disk errors, and no other Mac is available, then you may be able to salvage some of your files by copying them in the Finder. If you already have an external drive with OS X installed, start up from it. Otherwise, if you have Internet access, follow the instructions on this page to prepare the external drive and install OS X on it. You'll use the Recovery installer, rather than downloading it from the App Store.
    c. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, start the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    d. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.
    Step 2
If the startup process stops at a blank gray screen with no Apple logo or spinning "daisy wheel," then the startup volume may be full. If you had previously seen warnings of low disk space, this is almost certainly the case. You might be able to start up in safe mode even though you can't start up normally. Otherwise, start up from an external drive, or else use the technique in Step 1b, 1c, or 1d to mount the internal drive and delete some files. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation.
    Step 3
Sometimes a startup failure can be resolved by resetting the NVRAM.
    Step 4
If a desktop Mac hangs at a plain gray screen with a movable cursor, the keyboard may not be recognized. Press and hold the button on the side of an Apple wireless keyboard to make it discoverable. If need be, replace or recharge the batteries. If you're using a USB keyboard connected to a hub, connect it to a built-in port.
    Step 5
If there's a built-in optical drive, a disc may be stuck in it. Follow these instructions to eject it.
    Step 6
Press and hold the power button until the power shuts off. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to start up, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Use a different keyboard and/or mouse, if those devices are wired. If you can start up now, one of the devices you disconnected, or a combination of them, is causing the problem. Finding out which one is a process of elimination.
    Step 7
If you've started from an external storage device, make sure that the internal startup volume is selected in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.
Start up in safe mode. Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know the login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
When you start up in safe mode, it's normal to see a dark gray progress bar on a light gray background. If the progress bar gets stuck for more than a few minutes, or if the system shuts down automatically while the progress bar is displayed, the startup volume is corrupt and the drive is probably malfunctioning. In that case, go to Step 11. If you ever have another problem with the drive, replace it immediately.
If you can start and log in in safe mode, empty the Trash, and then open the Finder Info window on the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) Check that you have at least 9 GB of available space, as shown in the window. If you don't, copy as many files as necessary to another volume (not another folder on the same volume) and delete the originals. Deletion isn't complete until you empty the Trash again. Do this until the available space is more than 9 GB. Then restart as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)
If the startup process hangs again, the problem is likely caused by a third-party system modification that you installed. Post for further instructions.
    Step 8
Launch Disk Utility in Recovery mode (see Step 1.) Select the startup volume, then run Repair Disk. If any problems are found, repeat until clear. If Disk Utility reports that the volume can't be repaired, the drive has malfunctioned and should be replaced. You might choose to tolerate one such malfunction in the life of the drive. In that case, erase the volume and restore from a backup. If the same thing ever happens again, replace the drive immediately.
This is one of the rare situations in which you should also run Repair Permissions, ignoring the false warnings it may produce. Look for the line "Permissions repair complete" at the end of the output. Then restart as usual.
    Step 9
If the startup device is an aftermarket SSD, it may need a firmware update and/or a forced "garbage collection." Instructions for doing this with a Crucial-branded SSD were posted here. Some of those instructions may apply to other brands of SSD, but you should check with the vendor's tech support.
    Step 10
Reinstall the OS. If the Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
    Step 11
Do as in Step 9, but this time erase the startup volume in Disk Utility before installing. The system should automatically restart into the Setup Assistant. Follow the prompts to transfer the data from a Time Machine or other backup.
    Step 12
This step applies only to models that have a logic-board ("PRAM") battery: all Mac Pro's and some others (not current models.) Both desktop and portable Macs used to have such a battery. The logic-board battery, if there is one, is separate from the main battery of a portable. A dead logic-board battery can cause a startup failure. Typically the failure will be preceded by loss of the settings for the startup disk and system clock. See the user manual for replacement instructions. You may have to take the machine to a service provider to have the battery replaced.
    Step 13
If you get this far, you're probably dealing with a hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.

  • Interactive Whiteboards and the Ipad

    Hi there sports fans.
I work in a special needs school and the iPad is the way of the future... but, I need to be able to visually demonstrate iPad use through and interactive Whiteboard... So this is the crux of the question:
How can I use my **Interactive Whiteboard* to* show my Ipad screen and *control my Ipad?*
*please note... I do not want to control the whiteboard... that I can do already.
Thanks friends. let the educational revolution begin!

There are a number of options available. You can use Apple's iPad to VGA adaptor to connect the iPad to your IWB via a VGA cable. This will display your iPad on your IWB to model the activities to your students. This doesn't transmit sound from the iPad, you would have to use a 3.5 audio jack to your amp or sound setup to get the full experience.
The VGA adaptor is limiting in length but works great. Your second option is Apple TV. This will mirror your iPad to your IWB wirelessly. This uses Apple's Bonjour to communicate across your wireless network. You may have to enable multicast on your controller for this to work. Apple TV require a HDMI connection to your display. If your IWB projector does not have a HDMI input, then you can get a HDMI to VGA convertor to get it to work. Depending on your audio setup, you may need a DAC convertor to transmit the audio across wireless as well.
This is great and enables you to walk throughout the school (depending on the strenght of your wirelss network) and mirror directly to your IWB. This only works with the iPad 2 and new iPad. The iPad 1 will not mirror. The real value comes when you can ask the children to display their iPads on the IWB wirelessly from their desks to showcase their work. You can put a passcode on Apple TV to prevent this from happening without permission, or if you have multiple ATV's in the school.
The alternative wirless option is to use some software such as Reflection or AirServer. This software is installed on the PC or Laptop connected to the IWB. The iPad then uses the same method for Apple TV but goes to the computer beofre diplaying on the IWB.
AirServer offers the ability for mirror of up to 16 iPads at the same time. Brilliant for comparing work the children have done. AirServer is available on both a PC and Mac, although at present, only the Mac version mirrors audio and visual. I understand that a PC version is in development and will be updated soon.

How can I make my Apple tv remote stop interacting with my MacBook and my iMac? Everytime I press the reote, the sound will go up or down on my computers or they will wake up.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
If you don't want to use a remote with your computer the easiest thing to do is just to turn the IR off. (System Preferences/Security/General)
If you still want to use your computer remote then you must pair your computers remote with the computer AND the Apple TV remote with the Apple TV.
To pair a remote with a device hold down the menu and FF buttons together for six seconds or until you see a chain icon on screen (best take the computer into another room, or turn it off, when you do this)

    hi!
create a variable window and write this code there
/: POSITION XORIGIN '2' CM YORIGIN '10' CM
/: SIZE WIDTH '18.05' CM HEIGHT '18' CM
    /: BOX FRAME 10 TW
/: POSITION XORIGIN '2.05' CM YORIGIN '10.05' CM
/: BOX WIDTH '18' CM HEIGHT '1' CM INTENSITY 15
/: POSITION XORIGIN '3.5' CM YORIGIN '10' CM
/: BOX FRAME 10 TW WIDTH '0' TW HEIGHT '18' CM
/: POSITION XORIGIN '9.2' CM YORIGIN '10' CM
/: BOX FRAME 10 TW WIDTH '0' TW HEIGHT '18' CM
/: POSITION XORIGIN '11.5' CM YORIGIN '10' CM
/: BOX FRAME 10 TW WIDTH '0' TW HEIGHT '18' CM
then create a main window with same height and width as that of the varaible window (overlapping the variable window on to it).
now on looping in the main table and displaying the data boxes will come it self....
here the main window dimensions are
    MAIN 00 Main Window 2,00 CM 10,00 CM 18,00 CM 18,00 CM
[then with the help of data element call the box
/: BOX WIDTH '18' CM HEIGHT '1' CM FRAME 10 TW
in loop where write_form is called....]
u will get the box with the data printed in the form......
keeping same for the variable window....
    and try it....
    this will be done....

I created a book in iBooks Author using the Photo Book template. When I rotate to portrait orientation, the photo or widget disappears and a table of contents appears with only the interactive media showing.

Thanx for the prompt response, KT. I have indeed seen that thread, only just after I posted the question.
I have spent hours on the phone with what I now know is a call center in Texas on this question.
I think Apple could be a little more "hands on" with iBooks Author users, and it should also be pointed out that landscape photos will not display in portrait mode.
In my case, I used gallery widgets to display vertical photos, since they look better in portrait mode.
But instead of simply rotating, the page disappears and a TOC of interactive media appears. The gallery behaves as expected when tapped. This is not what I expected, but since the gallery works, I can live with it.
Right now I have "tickets" telling me to "fix" this "problem or to disable portrait mode.
I don't want to disable portrait mode.
Will Apple accept the books if I tell them this is not an "error?"

  • Does Safari support a interactive PDF with hidden layers? I'm on version  5.0.3 and the interactive PDF displays just fine, but our web development team tells me all the layers display when they view the same PDF on Safari.

Does Safari support interactive PDFs with layers? Through the use of hidden layers and buttons we built in interactivity that allows the viewers to click on buttons to display different content. When I view the PDF in Safari 5.0.3 on my Mac OS 10.5.8 the PDF displays fine and the interactivity works. However our web design firm tell me the PDF displays all the hidden layers when they view it in Safari. Who's right?

Try updating your Safari to the latest version, 5.0.5.
Also check whether the rest of your system is up to date by going to Software Update in the Apple menu.

  • Can garageband be used with interactive whiteboards?

    Hi:)
Does anyone know if the garageband software program can be used with an interactive whiteboard? I am doing an assignment on the use of interactive whiteboards in classrooms and was hoping to include garageband as an example of a motivational software program that could become an even more effective learning tool when projected onto an interactive whiteboard for whole class input and discussion. I am having a lot of trouble however finding any evidence that garageband is compatible to use with interactive whiteboards, and would be very appreciative if anyone could refer me to websites or other resources that provide proof of compatibility (providing they are compatible of course!)
Thanks so much if anyone can help!!
    Ariana

It's actually a hypothetical situation so there is no actual interactive whiteboard. If you know of evidence that shows that garageband can be used with a "smartboard" (if it is an interactive whiteboard), then that would be helpful as I could then reference it from that source to explain how it would be in reality. I just need concrete evidence that it is possible - it doesn't matter what brand of IWB it is.
    Thanks
