Apple TV to VGA input video projector-what do I need

Please help.
My understanding is that the Apple TV has HDMI output.  I want to hook it up to a video projector that only has VGA in.  Someone told me that all I need is a simple inexpensive HDMI to VGA cable.  Then I read something that seems to comflict with this.
Please clarify.  Is the simple inexpensive cable all I need, or is there something else I need?
Thank you very much for your help.

There are hardware converters that will convert HDMI to various other types of output, however there are some issues with doing so that you should be aware of.
HDCP
HDCP compliant converters will not allow you to watch HDCP protected content such as that from the iTunes Store. Non compliant converters exist but we cannot discuss them under the Terms of Use for these communities.
Resolution and aspect ratio
I'm not aware of any converters that will scale the output from the Apple TV, any TV or projector which is used will need to be widescreen and support resolutions of 720p.

  • Terrible sales protocol on Apple TV - they don't tell you what you really need

When I bought my AppleTV I was NOT told:
    - that I needed  2011 or later manufactured Mac laptop, to be able to stream from internet.  My 2010 machine can't do it.
    - that I needed a micro USB cable, unless I wanted to find myself with a "dead" device on a Saturday night, after a failed update.
    - that I would never be able to read the serial #,  printed in miniscule black type, on black background on the device.  What happened to the famous Apple design brilliance, with this device?
Very unhappy about this product, will not recommend it to others.  Are there better places to spread the word to others, or provide actioned feedback to Apple?

The AppleTV does not require any computer to stream from the Internet.  I suspect what you really mean is that your old MAC is not support for AirPlay Mirroring.

Most people already have a microUSB cable, especially if they have other small portable electronic devices.

  • Apple TV on Video Projector?

I have a video projector in my classroom and want to get an Apple TV to keep all of the videos I show on it. Will the Apple TV work on a video projector?

I don't have the Red-Green-Blue component plugs in my projector - but I do have a monitor in - would it still work if I used a component to VGA cable converter?
    Thanks!

  • What do I need to set up a recording studio?

I am looking at purchasing Logic Pro 8 and installing it on the computer in the sound booth at my church. I basically would want to take the sound board channels and feed it into Logic so each of the instruments are in separate channels in Logic. I know it is not that simple, so does anyone know the steps in between those two? What do I need to go from the soundboard to the computer? Thanks for the input!

    Hi,
"What do I need to go from the soundboard to the computer?"
You need a sound card which has at least the number of planned outputs that you will want to record.
Say your soundboard (mixer) has 8 buss outputs, and that is what you are going to use to record with, then you would need a soundcard with at least 8 analogue inputs.
There are MANY brands to choose from, to fit almost any budget. Just stay away from M-Audio, they are not any good, IMHO.
As far as steps to recording your audio, well, you might benefit from buying a book on recording audio, it will be simpler to have one on hand when you're actually testing your equipemnt.
    Cheers

  • I want to switch from my wireless network to wired using ethernet. What do I need to do?

I am currently connected wirelessly, but plan to hard-wire the Apple TV to my Internet instead. What do I need to do to do that, just plug the ethernet cable in? The cable company is coming tomorrow.

Oh yes ... I will be using an ethernet cable too; I just wanted to know if I need to do anything in settings on the Apple TV, or whether it will automatically connect itself and I won't have to do anything else.

  • Is VGA a common input to a video projector?

What are common inputs on video projectors?  If I get a VGA adaptor for my iPad 2, can I feel confident that it will work with a projector at a meeting I will attend?

Yes, VGA is a common input.

  • I have an Apple TV, a sound system and a video projector. The videoprojector and the sound system are separated by 5 meters and I cannot have a wire. What would be the wireless possibilities?

Should I put the Apple TV next to the video proj and send the sound wirelessly to the sound system but how to do this from an optical output? Or I can put it next to the sound system and send wirelessly the HD video signal but I have not found a solution unde 100+$ and people seem to be complaining. Any ideas? Thanks in advance

It is pretty short so here is the entire text:
    Symptoms
A purplish or other colored flare, haze, or spot is imaged from out-of-scene bright light sources during still image or video capture.
    Resolution
Most small cameras, including those in every generation of iPhone, may exhibit some form of flare at the edge of the frame when capturing an image with out-of-scene light sources. This can happen when a light source is positioned at an angle (usually just outside the field of view) so that it causes a reflection off the surfaces inside the camera module and onto the camera sensor. Moving the camera slightly to change the position at which the bright light is entering the lens, or shielding the lens with your hand, should minimize or eliminate the effect.

  • HT3382 Does the Apple MiniDisplayPort to VGA adapter allow me to connect a VGA DLP projector as a display?

I want to connect my MacBook Pro i7 that has a mini Dsiplay Port/Thunderbolt port. I want to connect it to my VGA NEC LT20 DLP Projector.
I have the Apple MiniDisplayPort to VGA adapter, MB5727Z/A, Model Number A1307 and the computer does not recognize the NEC LT20, nor does the LT20 recieve the MacBook Pro as a computer or other source.
My previous MacBook Pro core duo with DVI to VGA adapter worked fine with the projector.
Is this because the Apple  MiniDisplayPort to VGA adapter is only for computer to VGA video displays?
Is there another adapter that will allow me to use my particular VGA proejctor with my MacBook Pro?
Has my replacing the old computer with the newer one forced me to shell out big bucks to for another projector, thereby making my ability to give educational lectures for free to audiences impossible?

When you plug the projector into the computer, with the projector on, dose the computer reconize a second a 2nd display is connected?
ie: Menu bar, click on the Apple menu, chose System Preferences, click on displays, do you see an arragment tab?
if you do see an arragment tab, try clicking gather display windows. a window should pop up for the projector. What resolution is it set to? is there a lower resolution you could set?

  • No signal via DVI to VGA adapter on my video projector Sharp PGM 15X

    Hi there!
I have a big problem with my video projector. It´s connected via mini DVI to VGA adapter to
the projector. The problem is, Mac OSX decect the projector but there is no picture.
To resize the solution on both, or one of them doesn´t help.
When I use my Bootcamp and reboot with Windows XP there is a picture on the video projector.
    I cant believe this.
What should I do to fix this problem?

I got my Mac Mini yesterday and I am having the exact same problem as you are having.
I've tried on two different TV's but it is just not sending a signal. Is it faulty?

  • Mini DVi to VGA :  impossible to display to a video projector

    hello !!!
I bought a MINI DVI to VGA adaptor and i as soon as i connect my videoprojector (Sanyo) to my Imac with the mini DVI-VGA adaptor, my Imac screen freezes and nothing appears on the video projector screen.
    What can I do ?
    Thanks

Not exactly, though you can reset the PMU of an iMac flat panel machine with a PowerPC G4 processor, reset the SMU of a G5 PowerPC-equipped platform, or reset the SMC of one driven by an intel processor.
Any corrupted settings stored which might affect your external video will be dealt with by those processes. Have you attached the adapter alone and seen this same outcome, or does it occur only when a VGA projector is attached to the adapter?

  • Is there a way to predict which video projectors will not work with the 2012 MacBook Air using the Mini-display to VGA adapter?

I recently upgraded from a 2011 MBA to a 2012 MBA due to the larger capacity SSD.  The 2011 MBA running Lion and Mountain Lion worked with every video projector for lectures.  The new 2012 MBA is hit or miss with video projectors.  It is not an adapter problem.  I have multiple Apple mini-display to VGA adapters with the latest firmware.  They all work just fine with the 2011 MBA. Re-starting the 2012 MBA with the adapter and projector connected has not helped.
It it not acceptable to have a laptop that works with projectors some of the time.  Apple is aware of the problem.  Is the only choice to go back to the 2011 MBA?
    RC

I installed 10.8.2 update today with my 2012 MBA.  The details of the update include:  Resolves a video issue with some VGA projectors when connected to certain Mac notebooks.
I tried using the MBA with a video projector and it found the correct resolution and connected with the projector automatically.  Using detect displays in the disoplay preference pane wasn't even necessary.
I hope this is the fix I have been waiting for with the 2012 MBA.
    Thank you Apple.

  • Splitting Mini VGA signal between monitor and video projector??

    Hello there,
I'm trying to develop an inexpensive tech setup for a classroom/lecture environment involving a mac mini. However, since the mini has only 1 DVI/VGA port, I am wondering how possible it is to split the VGA output and send it to both a VGA monitor (so the teacher can see what they're doing) and a video projector (so the students can see it) simultaneously.
In other words, the same screen content is sent to both display sources.
Can anyone recommend a reliable solution? I've researched 3rd-party VGA splitters to some extent, but am looking for some actual 'on the ground' experience doing this successfully.
    Many thanks,
    Richard

Thank you for your suggestion. I will look in to this.
I should haven mentioned that the video projector is ceiling-mounted at the back of the room while the Mini and monitor are positioned at the front of the classroom, so I am also concerned about lengthy cable-runs.
    Thanks
    Richard

  • Apple TV + facetime + video projector?

    Hye,
there's a few posts out there concerning apple tv and facetime, but this one is different.
I would like to know whether it's possible to initiate a facetime call from an ipod touch 5G to an apple tv, which is hooked up to a video projector. If I'm not mistaking, apple TV has VGA output, so I shouldn't need any adapter for the projector.
    Is this possible?
    Thanks.

AppleTV has HDMI video out only on current models.
I'm tempted to get one of these for work to do presentations from iPad.
