Apple TV unable to connect to Netflix (ATV-ui31)

As of Friday, 9/13 (yes, Friday the 13th) my Apple TV started showing an error when connecting to Netflix.  More specifically, it occurs after selecting a user profile:
We're unable to connect you to Netflix. Please try again later. (ATV-ui31)
I've spent hours on the support line with both Netflix and my ISP, both of which indicated it was a problem with my Apple TV unit.  I've tried logging out and in of Netflix, restarting the Apple TV by unplugging the power and waiting for 30 seconds, restoring the unit to factory settings, and the same for my router - nothing worked.  My Netflix account is in good standing and can be accessed via the internet on a laptop, iPhone and iPad - just the Apple TV continues to give errors.  I've even tried logging into a separate/new Netflix account and STILL got the error.
I am very frustarted at the moment and am on the verge of tossing my Apple TV and getting a Roku player since our family, esp. my kids, rely on it to stream Netflix.
Any assistance, ideally from Apple direct, would be helpful.

This was the very first time I've ever posted in the Apple Discussion group.
I posted this a couple days ago in a different user's question. Hopefully it will help one of you too.

I just got off the phone with Netflix. The fix they gave me was to remove the & symbol in one of our sub accounts. I removed the & and its working just fine now. Hope it stays that way and this helps someone else!

    Hi, i do have a similar situation. Everytime I try to synchronise itunes with my ATV (also version 2.3), it synchronise between 4 and 10 songs and then automatically disconnect the wireless connection on my computer (my ibook and other notebook stays connected at the same time). regards, Erik

    yep many of us are. Search around the Apple TV secton of the forums, you'll find many threads discussing the issue, and some workarounds for local content playback. Rest assured you're not the only one.

    I can connect to Netflix through my iMac but unable to connect via ATV, any suggestions? I've done both hard and soft resets of ATV to no avail and rebooted router. I have a 3rd Generation ATV.

    I have the same issue, but I'm not using a VPN. I can also watch netflix on my Macbook Pro or on my iPad Air. If I try to Airplay netflix from my iPad to the AppleTV (2d gen) it will pop up a message saying an error has occurred, I can though,  Airplay through my Macbook but only because I'm using the browser to stream the Netflix content.
    Maybe it is the Geographical thing.
    Any help is appreciated.

    I'm in need of HELP!
    I few weeks ago I reset my ATV because Netflix wasn't streaming properly. When it reset, the screen to sign into home sharing came up. I am unable to sign into home sharing and get this message "Unable to connect to server at this time, please try again later". Its been doing this for weeks... I've tried using my husband's apple ID and mine several times. I've reset to factory settings... un plugged wifi and tv... my wifi is working perfectly fine with all other apple products.
    I am able to stream netflix over airplay, but I am not able to get any farther than the inition screen that has the "Homesharing" or "settings" button.
    What can I do??

    Last night I was watching programs on Apple TV with only one problem: I was not able to purchase the entire season of "Homeland" but could purchase and watch individual episodes. Today I am able to watch only previews and trailers from iTunes. After attempting to purchase a program I keep getting the message: "Apple TV is. Unable to connect to the server at this time. Please try again later." I am able to watch programs on Hulu, Netflix, etc. without problems.
    Any suggestions?

    I have a similar problem. After a recent update I cannot access the iTunes Store to resubscribe to Hulu. "Cannot access iTunes Store at this time." Dunno what to do.

  • Apple TV unable to connect to wireless internet.

    Many people seen to have this same connection problem of Apple TV with the internet.  I have to unplug the power cord to restart.  When it powers back up, I am unable to open "settings" which seems to be the only way to check or change things.  All other equipment using same wireless network are working fine.  I have not tried the steps where you connect your Apple TV to your computer and do a restore in iTunes.  Has that worked for anybody?

  • Apple TV unable to connect to hidden network

    In have a new third generation AppleTV.  My router is set ordinarily not to broadcast the SSID.  Despite many attempts to enter the details manually, my AppleTV is unable to connect to the router whilst the SSID is hidden.  Once I change the settings on the router to broadcast the SSID, the Apple TV connects and all is fine.  I have tried restarting both the router and the AppleTV, which makes no difference.  All other Apple devices are fine with the SSID hidden.  Any ideas please? 

    That is a pretty common issue when selecting to hide your SSID.  The solution is to not hide it.  That is not really giving you any real extra security anyway.  If you really feel you need extra security just enable MAC address filtering.  That plus encryption will keep out anyone that is trying to brute force their way in.

    Do you have any geographical restrictions?  I cannot get Netflix as it is not supported where I live so basically get the same problem as you.  If you can get netflix on your computer then it is not an issue.  This is what I get when I open the netflix web page.

  • Apple devices unable to connect to wifi aboard a boat

    Ran into a problem connecting to my verizon mifi wifi aboard my boat. Contaced verizon no problem on there end. My wifes windows machine connected just fine. My iphone and macbook pro could not connect, the connection message was "connection time out". When I got home to my home on land my iphone and macbook connected just fine. Anyone have an idea why this would be happening? Thanks for your help.

    Similar issue. Just activated new iPad and instantly a of my devices cannot connect. MacBook times out. And iPhone/iPad are "unable to connect" pls help

  • Apple TV is not connecting to Netflix and is acting buggy.

    After the recent Vimeo update.  I can access iTunes Movies, TV Shows, etc. but I can't sign into iTunes, I get a message saying "Can't sign into iTunes because Apple TV can't get the network time."  Further AppleTV keeps flashing back and forth from being connected to Wifi and not connected, it's not our network, 5-10 other devices are working rock solid.
    Any ideas if there is a known bug with the latest update?

    Yes I've rebooted the device several times.  I'm not able to try Ethernet where it's located, but I would be surprised if it were interferrence because it has been working flawlessly in the same location for weeks.  Plus I can access other content in the device without issue, previews of movies, TV shows, etc. but I can't purchase them because it won't accept my Apple ID... throws an error message about the Time.  Can't access Youtube, Vimeo, Netflix, etc.
    I'm a software developer and this feels like a buggy roll out of an update...

    Hello Everyone,
    I have a 1 week old Apple tv and I was never able to watch netflix.
    In the beginning i thought that it had something to do with the account I was using.
    I made a new Netflix account and still nothing.
    All other apps do work Youtube, pbs etc. Trailers in HD also work but takes some time to load.
    I have tried everthing I think, Did a Reset, Restore, unplug everything for more than 5 mins tried with another account nothing works.
    After RESET i can at least get to the point where it lets me sign in or sign up, after that i only get the ATV-U31 error.
    The Most i have seen of Netflix before this error was the search screen an categories but never saw a tumbnail of whatsoever.
    Any Help will be apreciated

    I am not sure what your problem is, but you must know that facetime and whatsapp only connect to othere apple users with facetime or whatsapp. It is not the same as "general"  apps as Skype.
