Apple TV v2 - do photo smart albums autoupdate?

Hi gang,
I am displaying some photos on my Apple TV (new generation). They are selected from a smart album from iPhoto on my laptop. This smart album collects all of my highest rated photos. If I rate a picture as 5 stars in iPhoto, it will automatically appear in the smart album. Does this in turn get synchronized with the Apple TV, or do I have to do something on the Apple TV to ask it to check for new photos?
Cheers!

The new AppleTV does not synchronise as such as it has no storage, so I suspect it gets or is is given a list from iTunes every time you go into the Photos submenu.
Question is if iTunes updates this list dynamically and pushes it to AppleTV, or if iTunes only get the list on startup or when the photo section is entered.
Do you have an ATV2 and are having issues or is this a pre-purchase query?

  • Mac OS X 10.3 photos smart albums sync to iOS 8.3 Photos

Thinking about iCloud Photos are worthy or not, first thing I did was testing the consistency of the catalog structure syncing between Photos on my Mac and Photos on my iPhone/iPad and on iCloud Web Access.
Sadly I noticed that folders structure that I've created on Photos for Mac won't sync with iCloud on the web.
Even sadder, smart albums WON'T sync neither with iOS Photos app or iCloud Web.
Seeing this, iCloud seems to be useless for me. Specially when Flickr offers me 1TB for free, while Apple will charge me US$ 19,90 per month.
    Does anyone found something different?

    Hi
Re Statman and isync - this wont work with BlackBerry Storm. I tried that AND the latest version of Blackberry for Mac - on both Leopard and Tiger OS.
Anyone trying to backup contacts from Blackberry STorm to mac - it won't work. I'v read everywhere that Missing Sync is the way to go - however if you're looking for a freeware version - go for Google Sync - it'll sync your contacts with your Google Mail ( gmail) account so it's backed up online.
As I also found BB Storm doesn't have a function to backup Contacts to the SIM or a SD card - although you can download your contacts FROM the sim to the phone, it doesn't work the other way around.
Google Sync worked for me as a quick fix - and then I got an iphone to avoid having to deal with all of this schemozzle in the future.
Unfortunately Vodaphone does not publicise on their Australian website that Blackberry Storm WONT WORK WITH MAC. If you don't ask the question at point of purchase - you will end up on this forum trying to work it out.
Hope you find google Sync a helpful techfriendly option all

  • Can't delete photos in smart album view

Assuming we all know how smart albums work, let's jump to why I can't delete a photo from a smart album. In all other views, it seems, I can delete images. When I'm scanning through 500 pictures tagged with Christmas in my Christmas Smart Album and come across one I want to delete, I can't do so. What's worse, going back to Photos view and trying to find that picture to delete it is almost impossible when you're looking through a library of 6,000 images.
Am I missing something? Do I really have to find a work around for this? Why has Apple left out DELETE from Smart Albums?

To delete a photo that's in a smart album you need to use the CommandOptionDelete key combination to move it to the trash. If you just want to remove the photo from the album you will need to change on that photo the feature that the smart album is set to look for.

  • Smart Albums gone Dumb

After updating to iPhoto 6, some of my Smart Albums no longer update automatically. I've noticed the problem specifically with Smart Albums that use the rules "roll contains XYZ" or "roll does not contain XYZ"
The Smart Albums will only refresh with recently added photos if I choose "Edit Smart Album" and then click "OK."
Anyone else have this problem or know of a solution?

    erik:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Were those Smart Albums created in your V5 library? If so, you might delete the old one and create a new smart album and see if it will auto update.

  • Smart Album, and camera model?

My older camera Pentax K10D, no problem for the Photos Smart Album to find all pictures taken with that camera "Pentax K10D".
But when i have seen the picture info in picture (cmd+i) has the text "PENTAX K-5" and when i put that criteria in a Smart album (-as i have done with my Pentax K10D Smart Album) the "PENTAX K-5", Photos cant find a singel picture taken with "PENTAX K-5" info.
So i think the "Smart Album" is a little bit broken...?

    thanx :-)
Yes, notice it after i put this support-help on apple suport site, but anyhow Smart Album is a little bit broken and they should fix that little bug.
And yes it works better with "K-5" than "Pentax K-5" that is the original-name in picture info, on import.
Anyhow thanx for the answer and Photos is more likable every time i use it, it will most likely be a good "PRO" -picture editor at the end :-)

  • Smart Album "Referenced" doesn't behave as expected

    Hello,
I'm a little confused and hope someone can explain.
I've decided upon a purely referenced model, keeping my master files on an external drive. I have setup a few smart albums that display: managed, referenced, and missing images.
I am under the impression that all my images are referenced. So the following surprises me and I'd like to better understand what it means:
When I select "All Photos", I see a total of 645 images.
When I select my "Managed Photos" smart album, I see zero images (as expected).
When I select "Referenced Photos" smart album, I see 35 images (not expected!).
For the latter, the smart album is setup with: Include if ALL the following match: Rating >= Unrated; File Status = Referenced.
When I go back to "All Photos", select them all, right-click and bring up the "Manage Referenced Files" dialog, it shows 630 files on my external hard drive and no other files identified. This suggests to me that 15 images are NOT referenced, but that doesn't jive with the smart album views above.
Any help interpreting this would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Tony.

OK, I've found out my error.
I didn't realize that when you create a smart folder, the 'smarts' only apply to the images in your current context. I.e., if you happen to have an album selected, then the smart album is created to only work on that album.
I deleted my smart folders and started again by selecting "All Photos", then creating the smart folders.
Now things are working as expected.
    Tony.

  • A single photo in Aperture smart album shows multiple times on Apple TV2.

Sometimes a random photo in my Aperture smart albums displays on my ATV2 multiple times..can I fix this? For example, currently a single picture shows up on the Apple TV in the photos taken "in the past week" smart album 124 times, and the same picture shows up in the "in the past month" smart album 15 times.
When I double check the picture in the original smart album on the computer, it appears correctly, i.e. only one time.
    Suggestions?

I'm having the same problem.  I deleted all the photos in the photostream then tried to drag a couple new ones in to see if they'd synch.  Nothing is happening.  I recently installed aperture (have about 125 gb in the library).  If anyone has an idea what to do, i'm open to try something.

  • ITunes\Apple TV 2 Not Updating Aperture 3 Smart Album Photos

    Hi,
Even after both updating the Preview photos in the Aperture 3 Smart Album and waiting for several hours, my iTunes photo link to the Apple TV 2  still shows the OLD pictures (and the photo count) from when I first linked the album. The link is off by scores of photos that have since been added.
In attempting to remedy the out-of-date Album link, I have:
    closed all programs,
    restarted the computer,
linked and unlinked the photo album.
The photos on the Apple TV still show old versions of the pix, since revised. I don't know where these are coming from since they have been updated. They must reside in the ATV's memory. I'd like to flush that out and replace with the new versions!
    QUESTIONS:
--> Is there a way to get iTunes to see the updated Smart Album that resides in Aperture 3?
--> Can I force an update of the Smart Album photos to the Apple TV?
Perhaps there is a secret incantation and dance?
    Thanks for your help!
    Don

I figured it out. The Aperture Smart Folder was actually being updated in iPhoto!
    The story...
I recently upgraded to the new commonly shared Aperture \ iPhoto file format and imported all my iPhoto photos into my Aperture library.
Unknown to me, Aperture was saving changes made in Aperture to the old iPhoto file (package)  -- with no notice, advisory, or infornation to this effect!
Mind-numbingly confusing, but once I deduced that my Aperture Library was now kinda fronting for some data stored in iPhoto, I could link to the Smart Folder stored there.
I intend to export the whole mess to an entirely new Aperture Library to be entirely (I hope!) in an Aperture environment.
If you lose information in Aperture, try looking in iPhoto!

  • I have uploaded photos from the past and they are grouped by dates.  How do I seperate those photos into their own folder/album so that I can easily identify the contents.  Also, what is the difference between Album, Smart Album and folders?

I have uploaded photos from the past and they are automatically arranged by date.  As a result, there are many events grouped into one library/event/folder/album (not sure of the proper terminology) I'd like to separate them into folders/albums/smart albums so that I can easily identify the contents.  How do I do that and do I delete the originals?

It would be good to take the tutorials and learn iPhoto - these are for the previous version but the concepts are the same and much of the command is the same - and it would be a worthwhile investment of time to take the iphoto tutorials - http://www.apple.com/findouthow/photos/ - they are very helpful and will save you a lot of time and frustration. - also the tutorials in iPhoto Help will be helpful - while iPhoto is easy and intuitive it does have a learning curve and it will save you time and pain if you spend a few minutes learning the basics
as to organization - events are generally time based and are the basic automatic organization - you can merge and split them to make them work better for you but they are not a good way to do detailed organization - best to leave them time based
albums are logical things that contain photos and are just pointers to the photo in the event so they take no extra space and all changes to a photo anywhere are reflected everywhere
Smart albums are the same except they are automatically filled based on the criteria you set when you create them
Folders are containers that you create and a folder can contain albums, smart albums or other folders so they are a big help in organization - like a vacation folder that holds folders for France, USA, China with each of thos folders holding albums of photos from the country

  • Deleting photos from main library while in Smart Album.

anyone know of a key sequence to delete a photo from the library when viewing the photo in a smart album?
I have over 1700 photos. Sometimes I want to delete all photos within a smart album but you can not do that by just selecting delete; that only deletes it from the album and not the library. as of right now the easies way I have found to do this is to perform a batch change and rename all files the same name, then perform a search within the main library for those files and then delete them. I refuse to think Apple didn't think about creating a "delete from main library" shortcut.

Option Command Delete works for Smart albums also. At least that is what it says in the iPhoto Help/iPhoto keyboard shortcuts in the menu bar.

  • Screensaver not showing all photos in an iPhoto smart album

Got a weird problem here, done some searching around but can't find a fix.
I have created a smart album in iPhoto 11. This correctly displays 95 photos across multiple events, based on a string match to the event name.
However, if I use this smart album for a desktop or screensaver, it only displays 8 photos, all from the oldest event that is in the smart folder.
Anyone have an idea how I can fix this?

Is Aperture the only app being affected? How does your desktop look? Have you rebooted your systems since this started happening? What is your display setting in System Preferences?
If it's only affecting Aperture its most likely the plist file ~/Library/Preference/com.apple.Aperture.plist.
You should move that to the desktop and restart Aperture. Not sure what file you deleted but moving the plist file won't remove any images from the library. Also take a look at the rest o the troubleshooting tips in [Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3805]

  • Smart Albums don't display in Photos App, only when edit Contacts Photo

I created a Smart Photo Album on my Macbook Pro and synced it to my iPhone4. When I open the Photos App, the smart album isn't listed but when I edit a Contact's photo by clicking on the Choose Photo button, the Smart Album is listed along with all the other albums.
But when I just go to the Photos App on it's own, the Smart Album is still not there.
    Anyone have a similar problem?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. That sounds like an iPhoto or iPhone issue and not an iWeb one. Post your question in the Installing and using iPhoto '09 or iPhone forum.

  • IPhoto 11 - Photos From Option-Selected Smart Albums Not Included in Slideshow

Running iPhoto 11 on an Spring 2013 iMac (new thin bezel; hard state drive).  I have multiple "smart" albums in my library, based upon keywords.  When I try to select a subset of those smart albums for inclusion in a slideshow (i.e. clicking the play button at the bottom of the iPhoto interface), iPhoto only includes the photos I select from the given albums about 50% of the time.
For example, I may select albums 1, 3 and 5 for the slideshow, out of 10 albums total.  iPhoto will only include photos from albums 1 and 5 in the working "selection" of photos, despite my explicit inclusion of the photos from album 3 in what I selected.
This is such a terrible and obviously preventable bug I am pretty furious.
    <Edited by Host>

    Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Lion and Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE 1: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If there's no improvement as a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?

  • Smart album for non-album photos in library

    I haven't found this posted but I'll bet it's a common question.
How do I make a smart album for 'library photos not yet in any album' ?
I have a couple thousand images and it's year-end clean up time!
I haven't mastered the search criteria and am poor at logic anyway.

  • Smart album duplicates flickr photos

I have a smart album set up with a condition "keyword contains ... ". The trouble is it also includes any photos uploaded to Flickr with the same tag. Is there any way to avoid this duplication?
    Thanks

When you e-mail a photo you could assign a keyword of e-mailed to it - as far as I know iPhoto does not do anything like this - suggest to APPLE - iPhoto menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback
