Apple TV Video Out To Native Possible?

Is there a way to get the Apple TV to output native resolution instead of upscaling it to the resolution of the TV?
If you have a mixe of 480P and 1080P movies to stream but prefer that the outboard preamp do the video scaling
instead of the Apple TV is that possible?

Not sure what you mean by "not possible with any device"?
I have a lot of devices that will pass thru native resolutions to an external scaler.
The Apple TV does have an auto setting to detect the full resolution of the display device you are using via HDMI.
What I am asking has nothing to do with black borders, I am asking about resolution despite the aspect ratio of the original image.  I do see a setting like I said that shows Auto or several other resolutions, what I was looking is simply a video pass thru so that an external scaler can handle it.

  • HD video out from Logic - possible?

I have been trying to find if there is a way to get HD video out to an external monitor from Logic. Tried a Decklink "Intensity" card, wouldn't output HD. I called Aja and Decklink, neither company could tell me if it's possible with any of their products.
Another alternative would be to use a second video card and convert DVI to HDMI (I have two 30" monitors so am already using the two DVI outputs on the main video card), I want to output to a 47" TV monitor for client presentations. In the old days, it was always recommended not to use a second video card with music DAWs because of slowing down the PCI buss - is this still the case with the latest Mac Pro's?

The other thing we've done in the studio when working on films is to use two separate machines. One machine is running ProTools HD and it's the on that plays the video. Use MTC to lock the machines together, you hit play in Logic and hey presto, the ProTools locks to it and plays your video. No reason why you couldn't do this with two machines running Logic. The advantage with using ProTools (HD) is that you can have all of your reels in the one session, one after the other. Then (if your Logic work is properly organized and all of your cues have start points at the correct TC, then you don't even need to change ProTools sessions even once. You can switch between Logic projects (for each music cue) and the ProTools session will happily jump to the right part of the video at all times. This way you eliminate the question of trying to get the one machine to handle everything. Yes it's more of the old-school sync'd up video deck concept, but once you set it up, it's much faster and it works great. You can even route all of your physical outputs from Logic directly into the ProTools inputs and do one-pass (or almost one-pass) striping of all your Logic work to prepare your ProTools sessions for the orchestral sessions. We've done this for a couple of films and it was a very effective way of working.

  • Video Out, is it possible?

i'd like to hook up my TouchSmart 600 to a digital projector (for large movie showings). Is there a video out option or connector on the TouchSmart? any suggestions?
    thanks,
    Idan

Generally speaking the 600xt series doesn't have any additional video outputs. It's really designed for the user to take advantage of the 1080p screen it ships with.
For the 1350 specifically , this http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02507381&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&lc=en&dlc=en... says under the I/O ports section that there aren't any video out ports.
I do have a second DVI monitor connected to my 600xt TouchSmart via a USB graphics adapter from IOGear. However, because it's connected via USB, it won't work well for video but is great for browsing, twitter, and the like.

  • Anyone have sucess to get S-Video out working on iSight iMac (20")

I used the Apple iMac-->Video Out adapter (composite and S) but no luck using S-Video cable (new Monster cable).
    Have not tried composite yet.
As soon as I plug the adapter in the iMac's resolution resets and I have the additional display options in preferences.
If anyone has been successful to get video out going, what settings did you use for the TV Display in preferences?
    TIA

Too bad one has to plug/unplug it to turn the TV on/off. Or am I missing something?
I tried the S-Video direct to the TV and it worked. Before I was trying it to input side of DVD recorder because it runs to an auto-switched input on the TV. Seems one just can't get all the eggs into one basket
Quality was good on my 50" Sony.

Is it possible to get itunes music videos to play or do I need to get new ipod.   It works on my iPad and iPhone, but not through iPod Classic.

Are these music videos located under Videos on your iPod?  Do it play other regular movies (if you have any on the device)?

I need to connect I-Mac G5 to HDMI TV, I think I need this: Video Out: mini-VGA (mirror only) to HDMI, where can I buy? Apple Bluewater no help.

VGA is an analog signal HDMI is digital. A simple cable would not work you would need something that converts the analog signal to digital.
A search of VGA to HDMI turned up a few possibilities but nothing specific. In any case the picture on the TV will not be very good given the source.
You should check to see if the TV has a VGA input. Some TV's have a computer connection port and this is usually VGA.

If the HDMI input to the Samsung is not compatible, does it have a VGA or composite input?  I have both the HDMI and VGA adapters for the iPad, which work with the small Vizio HDTV I tried.  I understand a composite video adapter is also available.

  • IPod Touch 2nd Gen Video Out Problem with Apple Component Cable

I'm trying to get video out working with my iPod touch connected to my TV. Here's the information.
32 GB iPod Touch 2nd Gen
    Apple Universal Dock (current version.)
Apple Component Out cable for iPod (current version that connects with a dock connector.
I've connected the component cables into the component video input on my TV. When I start playing any video (purchased off iTunes store in Standard Def,) I get a scrambled picture that appears to be the video, and no sound. I purchased the TV in South Korea and haven't gotten to test it yet on a TV back in the US. I have my video out settings with wide screen turned off and set to NTSC (South Korea uses NTSC.) I've also tried every setting combination, and switching the cable connections with the same or similar results. Sorry if a similar problem has been posted elsewhere, but after searching, I couldn't find any similar behavior. Any ideas on what might be the cause? I don't have any other component devices to check if the component on the TV is bad.

I've got that same problem: iPod Touch 2nd Gen, Apple Component Cables, and an HD TV.
The funny thing is, the cable works fine with an iPod Classic (160 GB) but not for the iPod Touch. Can anyone explain why that is?

  • Is there a way to make a video call from my iPhone 4 to a non apple phone? Also is it possible to transfer pics using bluetooth from iPhone to other company mobiles? Its a great phone but sometimes I feel struck inside it.

Is there a way to make a video call from my iPhone 4 to a non apple phone? Also is it possible to transfer pics using bluetooth from iPhone to other company mobiles? Its a great phone but sometimes I feel struck inside it.

You'd need an app like Skype to video call with other phones.
Data transfer is not supported via bluetooth and iphone to iphone is not supported at all.

can someone link me to a website with what i need?
or am i even able to buy the older cable?
    thanks,

This Apple mini-DVI to Video adapter should work for you.
    http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=7E4 EB91E&nplm=M9319G/A
It has an S-Video connector and a Yellow RCA composite video connector on it. With these 2, you should be able to hook up to any tv.

Firstly restart router and AppleTv after unpowering to see if that helps - may or may not but quick and easy to try.
Connection via ethernet or wifi?  If wifi are there any new devices in the house which may be causing interference or new neighbouring networks?  If feasible try to eliminate wifi issues by using an ethernet connection.

  • I need to stream video from itunes to apple tv with out using my 40gb hd.

i need to stream video from itunes to apple tv with out using my 40gb apple tv can it be done you see i have a 40gb apple tv and it's full and i still have lots more video (movies) in my itunes can i stream movies from itunes to apple tv with my memory full in apple tv??????????

Select the iTunes library on your computer from the Sources menu in Apple TV and then you can stream. If streaming is not smooth and your router has a multicast setting, try increasing the multicast bit rate. To return to the synced content on your Apple TV, select the Apple TV logo at the top of the Sources menu.

  • Possible to charge iPod while using Video out option?

I've read that you can use video out while maintaining its charge by simply 'ejecting' the iPod from Windows (but maintaining the physical cable connection).
But what about using a generic wall charger? Such as this one:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009T81YE/qid=1146811575/sr=8-1/ref=pdbbs1/103-4014541-7815810?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=301185
Or even using apple's official wall charger? With one of these pieces of equipment is the iPod locked in "do not disconnect" mode? Or is it free to be used?
I hope someone can get back to me soon! Thanx
      Windows XP Pro

using the wall charger does not put up the "do not disconnect" screen. thats only wen its connected to a computer. so yes u can keep ur ipod on charge while using the video out.

  • Adding a PCI graphics card to a G5 to get S-Video out - ???

    Hello!
    I have a G5 and a Radeon 9650...everything is fine except:
I would like to have S-Video out to preview my video scenes on a preview monitor!
Unfortunately the Readeon 9650 has no video out and because I'm using two display, the Apple DVI-to-Video adapter is not an option for me.
Ok! What about sticking an old Radeon 7000/9200/9250 PCI in my G5, so I will get video out and I could even attache a third display to it:-) ???
As usual, PC graphic cards are way cheaper as the Apple ones, so is it possible to use a PC card WITHOUT flashing it???
(I mean, the system just uses my 9650 for normal operation and the PCI card will just be used after OSX is running)
Has anybody any experience with using two graphic cards in there G5??? Are there any problems with OSX?
    Cheers
    Balrock

    Hi Edwin,
    thanks for your answer!
I thought that I will have to flash the card, but that should not be so much of a problem.
Will a flashed (or nativ Mac) card in the PCI slot work without any problems together with my AGP 9650?
Or will it confuse OSX and slow down the G5?
There is also the problem of flashing a Radeon 9250(they are quite cheap!). Only Club3D cards are flashable as far as I know, but they are only tested when beeing the main/only graphics card in the computer.
So, is it possible that flashed cards, not able to handle the boot process/be the main card, will still work with video out after OSX is up and running?
I won't let my camera run all the time as a Firewire/S-Video converter.
    Cheers

  • Apple tv video quality vs hd tv and high def dvd's

ok...i know it supports 1080i, but does the video quality of video in itunes really look good compared against say a blu-ray disc, or hdtv signals? i'm sure it will get better (with a hardware or software upgrade?) if its not close to high def quality but want to know what i'm in store for if i buy appletv now...thanks. PS: i currently have directv HD and a ps3 for blu-ray, and my tv's are all HD...

Based on my own testing, the distinctions between an HD-DVD movie (which are true 1080) and an Apple TV video converted as its own maximum settings (which is 720) is actually quite noticeable if you have a 1080 TV set, but at the same I don't consider it a show-stopper. I watch a lot of HD broadcast content that's only 720p, and it's still very good.
An HD-DVD or Blu-Ray DVD will normally be in 1920 x 1080 resolution (1080p or 1080i, generally depending on your equipment). The Apple TV's maximum resolution is 1280 x 720 (basically 720p). Therefore, even an original HD-DVD or Blu-Ray DVD converted to Apple TV will need to be scaled down to 720p for display on the Apple TV.
Further, Elgato EyeTV actually scales these down somewhat lower, so HDTV recorded content could be even worse-off, depending on the original source. The standard Apple TV export settings use a 960 x 540 frame in order to keep the bit-rate and frame rate within tolerances (since a 720p signal is approximately 60fps, and the bitrates will generally exceed 5-6 mbps, which pushes the limits of the Apple TV).
Even more interestingly, Elgato's new turbo.264 dongle will only encode in "Apple TV" format at a maximum resolution of 800 x 600 (and if you do the math you will realize that this will be considerably less for a 16:9 aspect ratio video).
The result is that videos converted from an EyeTV Hybrid are technically much worse off on the Apple TV than viewing the original source material. Whether this is significant enough to be noticeable will depend on your output medium, but on my 62" DLP, the difference is quite apparent (although still far superior to an SDTV signal).
You can get 1280 x 720 content to play back at 60fps at 5mbps bit-rates on the Apple TV by using ffmpeg-based encoders and manually selecting higher settings, although it's been hit-and-miss in my own testing, and of course it creates gargantuan files. Elgato and others have obviously tried to stay with the more conservative settings to ensure that they can guarantee the broadcast possible range of support.
In fact, although most of the standard encoder settings max out at 2.5-3.0 mbps, I've successfully pushed up to 6 mbps through the Apple TV, although such content has to be synced rather than streamed, since even an 802.11n network has a hard time keeping up (it worked, but there were some drop-outs and glitches in the process). Of course, 6mbps content is going to fill up the Apple TV hard drive pretty quickly as well (you'd only be able to fit around 11 hours on the internal 40GB hard drive).
The other thing to keep in mind with DVD movies is that they come from film, which is a 24fps source (based on the physical nature of film). As a result, the distinctions between a 720p and 1080i signal are less prevalant when dealing with film content, since you won't get the full 60fps HDTV capabilities anyway. Interlacing can still create some nasty side-effects, but it's far less of an issue when you're dealing with less than half of the normal frames.
In my own experiences, I have an Apple TV that is connected to a 1080p upscaling DLP TV (native 1080i input, internalized de-interlacing), and a second Apple TV that is connected to a 720p LCD TV. With the first Apple TV, I can notice the difference between 720p and 1080i output settings only when viewing photos, since the remainder of the standard content doesn't exceed 720p anyway. Further, because my TV de-interlaces a 1080i signal to 1080p, I don't get the flicker that is normally associated with a 1080i signal.
On the second Apple TV, I leave the setting to 720p, since that's the native resolution of the second TV, and I get noticeable interlacing-based flickering on the 1080i, particularly with photo slideshows (mostly in the transitions).
