Apple TV Video Signal Times Out

That's the best way I can describe it. Since installing the latest firmware (allowing rentals, new UI, etc.) if I turn off my TV (panasonic plasma) then turn it back on after a couple of hours the monitor reads "no signal". The only way to get it back (that I've found) is to reboot my Apple TV. I'm using HDMI out for the video connection (direct to monitor) and fiber for the audio (to receiver).
Anyone seeing this behavior and/or know a better solution than unplugging and plugging in the apple TV unit over and over?

Thanks for the reply. Neither switching the TV input nor the apple TV remote will 'wake up' the apple TV signal. The only thing that seems to work is power cycling the apple TV.
An example: Before this last SW update I could turn off my TV and receiver (say after watching a movie), come back in a couple of hours, turn the TV and receiver back on and there would be my apple TV screen saver and I could nav around etc. Now, when I turn everything back on I just get the 'no signal' indicator on my TV - nothing I've found short of power cycling will bring it back.
Any other thoughts?

  • Keynote video signal drops out

Keynote 4 video signal drops out during presentations where we are switching between two different Apple Computers (one G4 and one Intel). Both machines had previous versions of Keynote on them and over a period of time never had a signal drop out condition. Sounds like new version problem.
    Any input appreciated.

I have two laptops each with their video out adapter connected and then cabled to a switch box where the big monitors project the signal of the laptop that the swtich box is set to. Like channel selection. Previous versions of Keynote were never a problem and I mean never. The signal came right through but now with Keynote 4 the signal drops out even tho the laptop is still active and apparently sending a signal through its video out connection. I have to hit escape and get out of keynote and then go back to PLAY for keynote to once again send that signal.

  • After upgrading to mountain lion, my ip camera video feeds time out

I've been using my iMacs for a few years to monitor six ip Camera video feeds.  The cameras I use are both FOSCAM and AXIS brands.  I've used a few third party software solutions to do the monitoring, but I could also always use Safari to access a camera at a time by putting that camera's IP address in the address field and logging into the camera.
After upgrading to Mountain Lion, my video feeds started timing out when using DComplex's IP Camera Viewer, so I thought initially it was strictly an issue with that third party app.  However, I then logged into my cameras using Safari and they timed out as well.  Similarly, when using Axis Camera viewer, my video feeds would time out.  It seems as whatever the issue, it does not affect Firefox, because I can still login and monitor 1 feed at a time using that browser without any timeout issues, and for some odd reason, the FOSCAM only program uFoscam works, but the problem for me with that app is that it only works with Foscam, and not the Axis cameras (besides it's an inferior program to IP Camera Viewer in my opinion as well).
Has anyone encountered this problem and come up with a solution?  I'm thinking it's some sort of plugin or video codec problem, but it's well above my paygrade to figure it out.

I'm having the same problem with both my Vivotek wired network camera and Panasonic wireless network cameras. At first I thought this was an issue with the video framework in Mountain Lion, but if Firefox is working (I haven't tried it yet), it sounds like it may be an objective-c video library that has been changed. It's possible Firefox is using an objective-c interface that calls an objective-c function that isn't called by Safari or IP Camera Viewer, etc., (possibly a function that is on its way to be deprecated) or Firefox could use it's own library that directly calls the video framework.
Could be the Mountain Lion objective-c framework has a buffering issue.
Since this is occuring in both 3rd party software and Apple software, it sounds like it's an Apple issue. 3rd party applications typically utilize the Apple Developer objective-c frameworks to access video frameworks/libraries (for example, MJPEG). Thus, contacting 3rd party developers may not solve the situation (unless they can figure out a temporary bandaid--possibly figuring out the video framework call that Firefox uses and patching their software to do the same (not a simple task), but could still provide more feedback to Apple via their developer status.
Has anyone attempted to record from their cameras via iMovie or Final Cut Pro X HD? I will try mine later tonight to see if it records the hanging. If it does, then it's looking more and more like Apple's the culprit.
My suggestion is for everyone to file a bug report via http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html

  • Apple TV on display times out

Apple TV display times out after a period of time.

    Hi TonyWash,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
Is the Apple TV timing out while you are Home Sharing, using Airplay with a device, or working directly from the Apple TV menu?  Without knowing the specifics, I'll provide some basic troubleshooting for your Apple TV:
One of the first troubleshooting steps is on Page 26 of the Apple TV User Guide:
    manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1607/en_US/apple_tv_3rd_gen_setup.pdf
Try resetting your equipment by disconnecting Apple TV, your TV, your wireless networking equipment or base station, and your router
from the power outlet. Wait 30 seconds, and then reconnect everything.
Additional troubleshooting steps can be found here:

I hope this information helps ....

  • Quicktime Pro Video Recording Times Out

When I use the new Quicktime Pro video record feature, it times out after approx. 15 minutes.
    Anyway to extend this?
    Thanks!
    Bill

I haven't seen a time out like that, but perhaps it's related to reaching a 2 GB file size. You might try later QuickTime, or different compression settings to keep the file smaller.

  • Apple Mail fetch repeatedly times out

This is not a specific Lion problem but has continued under Lion, it's related to Apple Mail. On each of our 4 Macs our mail fetch from our ISP frequently times out  on all POP email accounts, repeatedly asking for a password even though the password is clearly stored in Mail preferences and Keychain. Sometimes I find that the POP email passwords are deleted from Mail, although they are always there in the Keychain. It only happens with POP, not IMAP etc. Needless to say our ISP has been vague and unhelpful. Any suggestions?

Even if it happens from outside their network, your mail still uses the same settings for servers and ports as to what you put into the settings. So, it's still routed through them regardless of the network your on. That why I suggested it may be the cause. Like I said, the same problem went on with ATT for many months.
There were many thoughts also on how mac mail was talking to the ISP, but in my case wasn't the problem. If you open up connection doctor in mail and test the connections from time to time, it failed in many cases. Sometimes, it failed constantly.
And since you've said it happens outside your network, that should eliminate your router.
So, you may want to talk with your ISP support group and ask them if they are making any changes to ports or servers. And if you haven't, check their website and search for mail server and port settings for mac to make sure you have the latest.
And I do understand that it's probably a wasted effort because most of the time they won't know what's going on.
    I feel your pain.

  • Ichat times out when trying to sign in

I am in Europe for the year and haven't been able to get my ichat to sign on in my new apartment. I am not good with computers and do not know where to begin with trouble shooting this problem. I have done a lot of reading on sign in problems, but I don't know enough about my internet/computer configuration to make changes. iChat does work when I try to sign on at a different location (university), so I don't think the problem is with the program itself.
    This is what I know:
I am using built-in Ethernet TCP/IP that I have configured manually. Other than iChat (or my apple mail which also times out before succesfully signing in), my internet works without problems. Following iChat help, I tried to ports on my firewall, but the firewall wasn't activated.
Any help you can give me is most appreciated. This is really driving me crazy.
    Thanks!

    Hi!
Thank you so much for your help! Changing the port on iChat did the trick. Perhaps that is the problem that is happening with my mail as well. You don't happen to have another suggestion about which port I should use to correct that problem, do you? Thanks again for the help, it is much appreciated!

  • Downloading 2.2.1 update times out and error message

Trying to download 2.2.1 update. It says it will take 2 hours (about 220 MB). Then about 45 minutes into download it says session has timed out. Check network connection or try again later.
Anyone know how I can remedy this and complete download?
    Thanks!
    Charlie

Another question. When it says "try again later". Would the download be faster if I tried in the middle of the night when/if the apple site is not so busy? Or am I totally off the mark and that has nothing to do with the time issue?
Is 2 hours normal for the 220 mg 2.2.1 download? Is there a reason the connection times out after 45 minutes of a 2 hr. download? Is that the apple site doing the time out or my ISP?
Sorry for all the questions. There are apps I want to download that need the 2.2.1 and I am only at my buddies house with WiFi on the weekends.
    Thanks,
    Charlie

  • Cost effective video signal analysis

Is it possible to get LabView to perform analysis on a video signal (NTSC) and if so, what devices (DAQ cards, video capture cards, etc.) do I need to look at. We are looking at options to improve our video quality testing at our factory and are looking for a cost effective soultion. There are video signal analyzers out there, but I would like a PC based soultion since the factory is beginning to use LabView for other testing. Any advice would be helpful.
    Troy

Troy. National Instruments has an entire line of machine vision and image processing hardware and software. If you're processing an NTSC signal, I recommend an NI-1411 color frame grabber. From there, you can use the NI-Vision software for LabVIEW to analyze your NTSC signal. Along with NI-Vision for LabVIEW, I recommend using a product called Vision Builder, which is a prototyping environment that lets you play with most of the Vision fuctions before even openning LabVIEW. Then once you're done prototyping, Vision Builder will create your LabVIEW VI for you!

  • Video signaling problem caused by 1.9, 2.0 BIOS (pointing out a BIOS problem)

Hi, i have a problem with the video signal. At random times when i boot up my computer, the computer would power up but there is no signal to the monitor. there is no hdd activity (via the hdd led) and nothing seems to be happening just that the fans are whirring. i have to unplug the computer then plug it again then turn it up again which sometimes repeats the problem. This is very irritating! So i did a little bit of troubleshooting:
    1. I changed video cards. I used a SAPPHIRE ati radeon 9600XT fireblade and a LEADTEK GF4 ti4200. Both cards were causing the same problem and when i used both cards to another computer, there is no problem. = NOT A video card problem
    2. used differnt kinds of drivers Cat 3.10, 4.10, 4.20 (omega and official) does not seem to do anything (which also i believe the drivers are OS dependent and its the bios of the vid card that starts up the vid card)
    3. upgraded from 1.9 to 2.0 BIOS. still the same problem
    4. reverted from 2.0 to 1.7 BIOS. the problem ended.
    BTW, the board is 865PE-Neo2 - S. on a Intel 2.6Ghz C, 512MB TwinMos ram with m-tec chips, 80gb hdd, enermax 300w psu
so ive' solved the problem, and i just wanted to point out that there is a problem with 1.9, 2.0 BIOS. (havnt tried the 1.8 tho)

Wish I had seen this thread 2 weeks ago, but you did save me from buying a new graphics card.  That was the last step (before chucking this mobo completely) in my attempts to fix the same problem.  It didn't bother me too much, except I also couldn't get any DVD player (tried 3) to work.  Would boot sometimes and at others gave a blue screen video error.
Flashing to bios 1.7 was the only thing that fixed it.  Tried different memory, updating software, various combinations of drives, etc.  For the record I tried bios 1.8, 1.9, 2.0, and 2.1.  Not sure what about those updates causes problems but there definitely is something wrong.
    Thanks.

  • IPad times out when trying to play shared video (solution)

Problem description: This problem has plagued me for months.  I have a series of home videos and purchased movies on my Mac that I had home shared with my other Apple devices using iTunes 11.  Sometimes everything would work smoothly, but some other times one or more devices would refuse to play videos.  Over the last few days, both my iPads had refused to play any home shared videos ("The request timed out." would pop after a long wait).  On the other hand, my Apple TV and iPhone would play these nicely.  Also, all music shared via home sharing would play on all devices.
Cause identified: I am using a BELKIN Wireless Dual-Band N+ Router.  I had it set up with the same SSID for both the 2.4GHz and the 5GHz bands in the hope that my streaming devices would automatically choose the highest performing configuration.  It turns out they did not.  While troubleshooting the time out issue, I configured the two wireless bands with separate SSID's which allowed me to observe that both iPads had trouble using the 5 GHz band (N mode only).  I could not even get them to validate the pre-shared keys on this band.  When switching all devices to the 2.4 GHz band (B+G+N mode), boom! everything started working nicely!  The iPads seem to have an issue with the N WiFi mode on the 5 GHz band.
Solution: If using a dual band wireless router, try each band separately with unique SSID's/pre-shared keys.  Choose the best performing one, and make sure your devices "forget" any wireless configuration that seems to be causing trouble so they won't later on decide to switch back to them.

You need to set the band on the wireless router.  Depending on your router model, do that either from your browser, or using the software that came on a CD-ROM.
To use your browser, you need to enter the router's IP address, usually http://192.168.2.1/.   This may me different for different router manufacturers.  Check the WiFi settings once you are able to log on.  The browser-based interface may require an admin password.  In most cases the default password is blank, but, again, different manufacturers use different defaults.  It is best to use a computer that is hard wired to the router using an ethernet cable.  That way the wireless changes will not affect your connection to the router.
Once the band is set in the router, your iPad or AppleTV should be able to detect your wireless network.  Once you change the band, the devices may ask you for your wireless password again.

  • Video Chat works for a few seconds... then times out - agian

OK, this is not a knee-jerk reaction post - I have read through the discussions here, and I still don't see what's wrong.
2 computers, the one with the issue is a G4MDD with 10.4.2 installed, updated QT, updated 3.0.1 iChat, updated security updates. It is behind a single router, configured to direct traffic on the 16000 series of iChat ports. I am using a sony camcorder through the firewire port.
The error message is relatively familiar to these boards:
Audio channel info: local machine using 192.168.1.2:16386, expecting remote machine to send to 68.58.46.244:16386
Video channel info: local machine using 192.168.1.2:16384, expecting remote machine to send to 68.58.46.244:16384
Notice however, that the ports match (not strange ports) and the IPs are not double NATed. These seem pretty standard.
When we chat, the video and audio work for both of us for a relatively random period of time, then the frame freezes, and 10 seconds later it times out - giving an error and shutting down.
Once it has shut down, the good chatting computer sees the green video icon of the other as greyed out - "this user is already in another chat" until the offending computer restarts iChat.
"goodness" was determined with apple's test AV accounts. It works fine with one computer, and the problem is replicated with the offending computer.
    Any help would be wonderful.
    68.58.46.244

    Hi Thomas,
Ok this does seem to say that the ports are set up and iChat is connecting properly.
iChat also thinks there is enough bandwidth at the start and makes the connection.
Is this to a PC ? Video freezes have been seen here when connecting to faster PCs.
What you describe though sounds more like a PC that has not "Tuned" their cammera or Mic to the AIM Application.

How do I "send a video signal out to my tv" on an iPhone?

I tried exactly this but it didn't work.  I was able to get to the TV out and set it but no video came out.  I have an iPhone 4 with IOS 6 and bought the cables from Apple.  Any other ideas?  I can plug a vcr or dvd into the same video inputs on the tv and that works fine.

  • How can I get my 2010 mac book pro to send signal out through the mini display port?                      end signal out through the end video signal out through the

How can I get my 2010 macbook pro to send signal out through the mini display port?

First, what you said is contradictory. You say "can't get a video signal", then say"the Mac wallpaper is broadcast, the mouse pointer is visible". "No video signal" means an absolutely black, blank screen. It sounds like you have plenty of signal.
I am supposing what you are seeing is actually a blank desktop, which is to be expected if your settings are such that you are extending the desktop, instead of mirroring it.
Within the preference panes is a setting that allows you to change this. Open System Preferences, click Displays, and then click Arrangement. You will see that you are extending the desktop. Change that setting.
