Apple TV "view options" or sorting issues..

Hi all,
I've posted this on the macrumors forum as they're all very helpful there but I'll post it here too in case it may get to apple's dev team:
I am gradually filling up my iTunes library with films and TV shows to watch on my two Apple TV 3's.
I have a lot of TV shows and it is driving me nuts having to scroll through every season from every show when browsing with the remote:
TV Shows->"TV Show A Season1", "TV Show A Season 2".... 3..4..15
OK when you've got two seasons of a show but not so cool with 16 seasons of the same show.
I remember having Front Row on an old iMac and when browsing through it would go a little like this:
TV Shows->"TV Show A"->Season 1..2..3.. etc
Much handier. When selecting music to listen to you get this method (Artist->list of albums etc) so it seems odd that this isn't implemented for TV Shows.
The concensus of opinion is that this is a feature that apple simply removed with ATV2.
Considering how much more video content people are downloading from iTunes (and presumedly apple would like to see that go up and up!), it's going to get pretty annoying continuing to scroll through dozens and dozens of the same show alphabetically to get to the one they want to watch ie. If I wanted to watch an episode from season 1 of Black Books and I'd just finished an episode from season 3 of True Blood (not that I would... it's the wife's), I've got to scroll through 22 other TV shows each averaging out at about 10 seasons to get to it.
The more I fill it up, the more it's gonna be like using the "Albums" filter rather than the "Artists" in music... don't fancy scrolling through 800+ lol
Anyway... just thought I'd put it out there in case it got to Apple or even if anyone else finds it annoying and wishes to comment.

Yes the upgrade does appear to have affected the tv/itunes but not perhaps in the way you thing.
All that seems to occurred by upgrading is that syncing got turned off and your library became streaming only, all you needed to do was turn syncing back on again, but not to worry.
You should be able to upgrade again knowing that even if syncing gets turned off again, you can at least turn it back on.

  • "Allow fast web view" Option in Adobe Reader

    Hi Experts,
Is there any chance "Allow fast web view" option in Adobe Reader can be controlled through Documaker settings? Documaker version is 11.1.
(Adobe Reader, go to Edit --> Preference ---> Internet ---> check/uncheck the option "Allow fast web view". )
In our case, Documaker generated PDFs are being downloaded by users using browser (IE 7/8/9). "Allow fast web view" option is causing issues in some IE versions. As of now we are manually un-checking the Adobe Reader option in every signle machine as and when issue occurs.
    Regards,
    Sruthi

    Thank you for the reply..
I have tried the option in 11.1, 11.3 & 12.1 versions. As specified in printer reference, SortBatches option is not included in INI. Still no luck. PDF is by default taking the property from Adobe reader (version XI in my case). Any other INI changes will be required?

If you dont have none option then you must own itunes some money. So you have to enter the payment like a itunes giftcard. you can contact itunes by email by going to expresslane.apple.com

  • Is it possible for Apple to add "key" to the view options selection?

Is it possible for Apple to add "key" to the view options selection?

DJ1970,  Unfortunately no.  iTunes does not have the key in the database.
People who want to know the key of a song can use (unless they already have perfect pitch!) key detection software such as Mixmeister.
Once you know the key, iTunes does not even have a field to store it, although you could stick it into Comments or some other unused text field such as Grouping.  These fields are indeed viewable in iTunes.

  • When will Apple TV improve its viewing options?

I just bought Apple TV, and I am dissapointed by the lack of viewing options for the on-screen movie, tv show, and music browser. There should be a cover flow available for all three categories similar to what is available on your iTunes interface. I think if enough people show their frustration over the current menu, which consists of a long list of items without any visual aid such as an album or movie cover, then Apple should respond and include this in the next Apple TV update. Come on Apple, let's rise above this inferiority!

It used to be a LOT better, with AppleTV v1.1, you got the full FrontRow experience. To see what this was like, use the FrontRow application on your Mac (in the Applications folder).
I can understand your frustration, but the only choice we have is to send feedback. It could be a really WOW product, rather than an expensive power-hungry iTunes movie rentals advertising white good.

  • Itunes view options - multiple Apple IDs

Itunes view options - can I see the 'account' that purchased a song / app / movie?  We have a central iMac that Home Shares among multiple (5) Apple IDs but no way to see which 'asset' is associated with which Apple ID in the iTunes view .

    this script will help:
    Track Down Purchases
This script will examine each track in a selection of tracks or a selected playlist to determine if it was purchased from the iTunes Store and then copies it to a discrete playlist named for the person who purchased it, eg: "Steve Ballmer's Purchased Music". Recognizes song, video, and audiobook purchases. Purchaser information is gleaned by examining the track's file, which, depending on file location and access speed, can take as long a second per track.

  • Screen resolution or view options issue?

I have my LED Cinema Display set to the highest resolution available (1920x1200), but something looks off. Icons look too big as do the list of favorites, devices etc. in the left column of Finder Windows. Is there a view option somewhere that I am missing to increase resolution or make desktop icons etc. smaller? Everything looks bigger than it was in SL.

Check in System Preferences that Zoom isn't turned on:

  • How do I adjust finder 'view' options to scroll up/down NOT side to side

Using finder/download I like to see my files/photos, apps, music.... for easier filing/deletion, so I use icon view.
I was thinking that way back when in icon view/kind/date added I would see a page of icon files that I could scroll up/down and enlarge w/ slider bar - (if it decided to work, if not- once again turn off/ turn on.... that's a whole-nother issue)
Anyway, now in icon view I have this never ending line of icons/files that scrolls side to side - what a pain to file.
Is there anyway to set back to a page view instead of the line view?
    thanks for any insight!

    Turn off the Arrangement.
Arrangements are groupings of like items. It is not sorting.
You have set your arrangement such that all of the icons fall into the same group and are listed horizontally in that group.
    View menu, Arrange By, None.
If you want to sort, hold down the option key and Arrange By will change to Sort by.
You can also set both from the View Options dialog (cmd-j).

  • Finder Window Sizes and View Options

In an earlier message under Mac OS X Panther it was recommended that I post a new message in the AppleScript forum.
I'm looking for a way to automate the repetitive task of resizing Finder windows and resetting view options. For example resetting a hundred folders to the same window size and screen position with the same view options. This requires manually adjusting each window one by one.
A solution could be an AppleScript that would automate this task.
The following is the earlier message:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=1283081#1283081
I mistakenly deleted all the preference files for the Finder window options on my 17 inch PowerBook (.DS_Store Files).
This has returned all Finder windows to default settings for window sizes and view options.
I use custom widow sizes for all my folders that nicely fit the 17 inch screen on my PowerBook, leaving enough desktop space on the right for the hard drive icons and the Dock that I always keep vertical on the right.
I have a 12 inch PowerBook as well. And it has it's own custom window size that fits it's much smaller screen. It has always been a complaint of mine to have to manually reset windows whenever I needed to transfer folders with Bluetooth file exchange.
Resetting Finder window sizes and view option has always been a time consuming problem. Now to have to do it over again for hundreds of windows is a huge task that is way to manual.
The Finder is customizable. There must be a way to set the options for one window and be able to use those adjustments for other windows without having to re adjust each setting manually.
There was an application called Finder Window Manager. Maybe someone knows of another application that can do this of task or another way around this issue.

    Photoscene,
I think if you repost this to the AppleScript link, someone there will have a solution for you (in the form of an applescript that you can run)...

Give it a shot (I'm not clever enough to give you a good script yet, but someone there will be!)

  • View Options Don't Stay Changed

I can change my view options just fine. But if I exit LR and return, the View Options are back to where they started prior to my changing them.
How do I make them sticky so they remain static between closing and opening LR?
    I use V1.4 and WinXP
    Thanks in advance,
    Christopher

I remember experiencing the same thing you are - it would lose track of what you were previously viewing. If I recall, it would take you back to Album view at the very top.
I just tried to reproduce the issue by clicking Songs, scrolling down and clicking a song, clicking iTunes Store, then clicking Library to go back. It took me right back to Songs and showed the song I selected, as expected.
If you aren't running iTunes 11.0.2 (26) - check iTunes > About iTunes and make sure it does NOT say (25). If it does, install build 26 overtop by downloading iTunes at itunes.com. If you are running bulid 26 and you're still experiencing this issue, let me know and I'll try to reproduce it on my machine! Then we can file a bug report and encourage Apple to fix it.
But it appears to be working as expected from my experience with build 26.

  • Finder View options, won't stay set after restart or log out

I like to have my application and utility folders (in the finder side bar) open in icon view and arranged by name and my Home and Movies folder open in list view with files arranged by name.
Each time i log out of my computor or restart the view options i have mentioned are reset, which is extreamly frustrating.
I have also noticed that the finder window now opens in a small size in the middle of the screen rather than being aligned to the left hand side as like to have it set.
This problem has only occoured recently, i think after deleting some "relic" files using Cleanapp.
Any ideas on how i can sort this out greatly appreciated

I finally know what causes folders to lose their view settings - even if you have set them to "Always open in..." a particular view (but I do not know how to fix it).
The trigger is setting any window to "column" view. Try it.
    (1) Create a new folder, and set it to your preferred view (but not column view). Close the folder and re-open it to verify that it is in the view you have set. You can even set it to "Always open in..." that view, if you like (it doesn't matter).
    (2) Now open up any other finder window or folder, and switch it to column view. If it is already in column view, switch it to some other view and then back to column view.
    (3) Now go back to the folder you created in step 1 and open it. Presto: column view. (Aargh!)
I confirmed this with a helpful and sympathetic Apple support staffer at the Genius Bar in my local Apple Store. Unfortunately, he had no solution, but noted it as an apparent bug in the 10.7 finder.
This is an extremely reliable behavior, that I have confirmed on 5 different machines all running 10.7.2. It is also an extremely frustrating behavior that I hope Apple fixes soon.
    -Barry
P.S. I will copy this to similar threads where this is being discussed, in hopes that it is helpful. Sometimes understanding why something happens can make it a little less frustrating, even if you don't know how to fix it.

  • Smart folder view options

When is apple going to fix Smart Folder List View Options so that we can sort by Size etc.....?

Yeah, when is Apple going to fix this? Right now, smart folders have the name of the item, which is great. They have the kind of the item, which is great. Unfortunately, the ONLY other column is Last Opened, and I have never found a use for that. It tells me nothing about the file in question.
When I try to change the columns using Command-J, the Finder says that there are no options. The interface is almost there, but for now, smart folders are useless.
Also, why won't the Open/Save dialog show the smart folders? It has those weird "media" searches, but I can't use the useful searches that I already have, even in an Open Dialog.

  • Looking for "label" in view options

This seems like such a no-brainer that I must be missing something, but is there no way to have "label" as one of the view options? For a lot of music, particularly older stuff, or 50's and 60's soul stuff, even modern indie, really everything, being able to sort by label (record label) should be an everyday option.
Maybe I want to listen to just Dial records today, or King, or Fame, or Norton or Ace...
Can this feature be added, post-haste? Or have I missed it?

Personally, I never think about the record label and can't understand why it would matter. But that's just me.
You can have more than one thing in the comments field and still use Smart Playlists to select items that have the name of the record label in the comments field.
You might want to submit your suggestions to Apple:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html
    Best of luck.

  • Re: Desktop view option with Mac OS X 10.7 Lion

After clean istall Lion and back up from time machine I had an issue with my viewing option on the destop files! After setting up the way I want my desktop files (Snap to Grid etc..) although they stay where they are while I am working, however, when log out, shut down or restart the computer back again, I find my destop files (eccept the hard drives)  repalced/moved around by themself on the desktop. I thougth the clean install Lion will clear the proplem, but did not. Is there someone who can help with this issue? Thanks

Sorry I can't help with the jumping around, but having lots of desktop icons causes the system to slow down.
Although, maybe they've improved that process a bit.
I think Snap to Grid maybe causing the issue, though. With Snap To Grid off, holding down the command key while dropping will cause the icon to snap to the nearest grid. That may be a workaround until it is fixed.
Hoping that Apple notices the issue will fail. Try providing feedback or using the Bug Reporter in the Apple Developer connection (I think you can still set up a free account to do this).
