Apple TV Vista?

I'm thinking about getting an Apple TV, but it's still not clear to me if it will work fine on Vista Business. Anyone have experience?

My short answer: Not for me. I've been using appleTV for about a year now with it sync'd to a XP machine and all was well.
Over the holiday vacation I purchased a new Airport Express to compliment my older Airport Express unit. I set up my new network using the older "G" APE as my main unit and the "N" unit as a client. (Note: I wanted to use the new AE as the main unit but the airport utility does not allow for that) After the new network everything work great. I was able to see both AE's and my Apple TV in iTunes and could use them as AirTunes speakers. I even was able to sync up my AppleTV. And best of all, I downloaded the "Remote" app for my iPod Touch and was able to control my XP machine and my ATV over my wireless network. Life was great.
Then I purched VISTA. The absolute only problem I'm having with vista is with iTunes. Other than that the OS works great.
Here's my Vista/iTunes problems:
(1) To date my ATV has not appered in iTunes so that I can sync.
(2) Only after reinstalling Bonjour does my remote speakers show up in iTunes. Only the APE's show, my ATV does not show as a remote speaker.
(3) iPod Touch Remote app only works intermitently with vista. I have to deselect "Look for iphone/touchs as remotes" in options, close iTunes, then open iTunes and reselect option. Then only sometimes does it show. I use to have to do this to get iTunes to see my remote speakers but after Bonjour reinstall all is well (keeping fingers crossed).
I've been trying to get it to work and reading posts nonstop, it doesn't seem to be a Firewall thing, I've tried running without it, that didn't help. iTunes is selected as an allowed program in the firewall app.
But I'm still not giving up on Vista.
Also Apple TV rocks. Although not the best for video, it is great for audio and that's all I really need it for. Viva Apple TV.
BTW: I'm running Vista Bussiness

  • Apple's Vista Repair Tool

I downloaded the "iTunes Repair Tool" that Apple put out for us Vista folks ... but nothing happens. Anyone else getting this?
Here's the drill: I downloaded it, ran it, and I got the "I agree to the licence" thing, and then it says "This tool for Windows Vista will repair permissions for important files required by iTunes to play your iTunes Store purchases. Click OK to continue."
I clicked OK, the hard drive churned for a second or two, then ... nothing. No confirmation that it's been installed, nothing. And there's no change in the performance of iTunes (only problem I'm getting is that the video doesn't work - it's choppy, stalls and stutters)
    Anyone else getting this?

I don't have Vista but I understand the repair tool is just to fix a problem some people have with authorising their computers. It isn't designed to fix anything else AFIK, certainly not performance issues such as poor quality playback.

  • Lion... Apple's Vista. More crashes then my other Mac's together

I'm getting seriously fed up with this piece of crap. Apple don't give a toss (no replies to emails) and errors that have been around for months are being completey ignored. Right, now that's off my chest...
A couple of months back, my Macbook Air began reporting crashes every few minutes. With hind sight, I realised that the errors began with the well known 'Preview' error. It began with "Core Services UI Agent" crashing unexpectedly. The Preview error involved having deleted an image, if I went past where the image had been, Preview crashed. For example, If I was viewing Picture1 & Picture2 in Preview, if I deleted Picture2 while looking at Picture1, when I tried to move to Picture3, it crashed. It was after a few crashes in quick succesion, the 'Core Services' started to appear, then "UnmountAssistantAgent" began quiting frequently.
A few minutes later, the whole machine crashed and refused to re-boot.
Lion had to be rebuilt at an Apple store.
Today, I tried to open a PDF. Preview crashed. I tried again, crashed again.
Then along came the Core Services and now UnmountAssistantAgent quit unexpectedly. I feel like it is only a matter of time before the machine goes down again. This Air has crashed more than my ancient Macbook did in five years, and my Snow Leopard iMac has never crashed. Any ideas, other than back it up, send it back, and buy a PC that works and costs a quarter of the amount? (Can you tell I'm frustrated?)

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. First, disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard, mouse, and monitor, if applicable. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During startup, you will see "Safe Boot" on the login screen, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is slower than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including your login items.
Launch the application(s) and test. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)

  • Mountain Lion must be Apple's Vista

I'm reinstalling this gawd awful beta of an OS on my iMac yet again because I can only hope it was a bad install.  iTunes has audio stream issues, cursor jumps on screen, don't even try and multitask with sharing windows on another computer through share screen.  My amazing iMac is reduced to a stuttering mess now.  And apple is being mum on the details.  One of apple's 3500 dollar computers that I still the top of the line shouldn't perform like a 5 year old machine.   I even have a SSD.   Absolute disappointment.   Here's hoping a reinstall is worthwhile.
Others getting any difference by reinstalling?

As I mention above, have you try a clean install to see how it goes or you simply perform a reinstall over the faulity system?
As long as you have your TimeMachine backup, you have nothing to loose. I've done a clean install in less time you took complaining about Apple's quality.  Until you try this, you cannot state for sure that you issue is between your iMac and ML.
We are all agree that when something goes wrong during a OS update, it is frustrating.   Again, if 3millions copy were already sold last week, I would assume that your issue isn't generalized and that you are facing an exception.
Again, I don't want to minimize your deception but at this point, try this process: http://osxdaily.com/2012/07/25/how-to-clean-install-os-x-mountain-lion/
Remember, there always a risk in upgrading an OS.  That's why we need backup and that's also why some will wait a first upgrade to reduce the risk.

  • Mavericks is to Apple as Vista was to Microsoft

This OS is a major step back.  It is so slow and nothing is done without a beachball.  I guess you get what you pay for.  If I could easily go back to Mountain Lion, I would.  I use nothing that is new other than the finder tabs.  I hope this year they come out with something better even if you have to pay for it.

I have been running now for about a month with my clean install.  I do not see any improvement.  I am probably 5/6 months removed from running ML, but This just seems much slower.  I have been toying with upgrading memory from my 8GB to 16GB and thought about SSD.  This system should be capable of better performance.  Any other suggestions would be appreciated.  Mid 2012 Macbook Pro running 10.9.2.

  • I could not get my iPhone 5 which purchased in Australia repaired by apple in the US. Guys from apple retail store verified a replacement for me and asked to call apple care. However, apple care said they cannot get it fixed nor repaired.

My iPhone 5 got some defects and I went to a apple reatil store yesterday. The guy from the genius bar told me that he verified a replacement for me. And I need to call 1-800-apple care to finish that process. I called apple care and one of the senior supervisors told me that I have to send it back to Australia (where I bought this iPhone) to get it repaired. Turns out I could not solve the problem after a apple store vist and several calls. I just want to know if there any way to solve this. This iPhone is a factory unlocked one that purchased in an apple retail store in Melbourne at the day it was first released. And my experience today is not what I can tell as fair. I will be really appreciate for any helps and advices. Thanks.

Warranty on iPhone is not international, but valid only in country of
original sale. Since you purchased the iPhone in Australia, your warranty
is valid only in Australia. You must either personally return the iPhone
to Australia for evaluation and possible replacement or sent it to someone
in Australia to take into Apple for the evaluation. Apple will not accept
international shipments for repair nor will Apple ship out of the country
    after replacement.
Sorry to be the bearer of this news, but it is the way iPhone warranty and
    replacement has always worked.

  • Windows Vista 64:  iTunes configured everytime it is opens

Looking for help. Since downloading iTunes 9.0.3.15, everytime I start iTunes I get an iTunes window that says Widnows needs to configure iTUnes.
Anyone else having this issue? Any suggestions? Is the previous version of iTunes still available?

Yes. I have had this since I got my Vista 64 bit machine about1.5 years ago. One night I searched for hours and finally found a thread that fixed it -- then I bought a new iPod and it wanted to download the "Latest Version of iTunes", and now I can't stop it from happening again. I'll give you verbatim what worked with an earlier version and maybe it will help you, BUT I am so ticked off that neither Apple or Vista people care enough to have a fix for this. Oh -- and let me add this -- I tried to go back to an earlier version of iTunes and it couldn't find my library because it had been messed with by a "More recent version of iTunes".
Here is what used to work, and maybe you or someone else can figure it out from here, and post the answer:
    "Itunes configuring problem
RE: new iTunes start always configuring again
This issue can be fixed by following these steps. IT worked for me!!
go to start menu --> run
    type regedit, press enter
    go to computer/hkeyclassesroot/
find pcast and right click it
    click permissions
during the course of this you may get a message saying you cant change
anything, but you can change who can change things. click ok on it.
    click advanced, then owner tab
change the owner from administrator to whatever name you are using
click ok twice to get out of the pop-ups completely
    right click pcast again
    click permissions
    click OWNER RIGHTS
by full control and read click the allow boxes.
    click ok
    all set!"
    Good luck

  • Is iTunes 8 still incompatible with Windows Vista?

When I updated my computer to Windows Vista, iTunes always crashed the computer. I know this is a common problem. So I just downloaded iTunes 6 and have been using that for a couple of weeks. But when I try to load CDs onto iTunes now, as soon as I press the import button a Windows message comes up saying "iTunes has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." Then it tries to get me to download the new version of itunes.
I would like to know either of two things:
    1. Are Vista and the newest iTunes version still having problems? Should I be ok to download the new version?
    And if not,
    2. How do i fix the problem with iTunes 6, to get it to load my CDs?
    any help, guys? thanks.

ITunes 8 runs fine on my Vista laptop. So did version 7. I think Apple announced Vista compatibility many months ago, and you should have nothing to fear.
Be sure to search for NOD32 fixes if you happen to run that antivirus program. Many of us NOD32 users were blaming Vista for crashes that turned out to be security conflicts with NOD32. The maker, Eset, has a page on the fix.

  • Nvidia Networking Controller Drivers in Vista BootCamp ????

I have installed Vista 32bit in BootCamp 3 on my new 13" Macbook Pro, all seemed fine but for some reason, Vista does not recognise the Nvidia Networking Controller driver installed from the bootcamp drivers, it says it failed to load the driver when checked in Device Manager.
Also, I have problems which I think relate to the Broadcom Wireless driver too. Signal strength when running in Snow Leopard is full bars, no problems. But when booted into Windows the wireless signal strength is one bar and oh so poor.
I have to move within a couple of meters of the router to get a good signal.
What is wrong with these drivers ???? i thought Apple supported Vista ????
I have read elsewhere of people suffering at the hands of the poor Broadcom driver, is there any update from Apple for this, or does anyone know of a new version of the drivers from Broadcom at all that give better performance ???
Same with the Nvidia driver, anyone know what to do about that, Apparetnly you can't just go to Nvidia and download the Nforce from there as the Apple OEM drivers are different and I dont even know which Nforce version the laptop uses anyway.
Please Help - Going Insane - Grey - And VERY bald!!!

Anyone have any ideas about this at all ????
I have updated bootcamp to 3.1 now but nothings changed. I did switch on Afterburner, disabled low power consumption and also changed the driver to use b/g/n auto which has helped slightly but not dramatically. As I have said OSX runs full signal so I know theres no router signal issue.

  • Itunes videos and vista

    hi,
since upgrading to vista, my video play choppy and in less quality.
is this the norm now ?
    any help would be great.
    mike

Same problem here sence February as well. My Vista runs great and I'm loving the new OS but sad that I can't add video's to my iPod on my own PC but have to use a friends at work. And that means I haven't been able to buy any music or video's off iTunes for 4 months now. (And trust me I want to). I don't understand why apple won't make a public post about this issue, throw us Vista users a bone here and let us know you're at least working on a fix for iTunes. I won't blame vista for it since all the programs I run under vista work great; the only exception being iTunes.
Please Apple, post something. I was browsing the Zune page today. (I know, I feel dirty also) but it might be my only alternative if Apple forsakes Vista users.

  • Publish Windows Vista Calendar to ,Mac

My Apple MacBook crashed and I got a PC Laptop (bad mistake but cheaper than Apple) running Vista Home Premium. I recreated my lost iCal to Windows Calendar. There is a Publish function in Windows Calendar but I can not get the right .Mac server address for publishing the Windows Calendar. I do not have iWeb which would make life easier. I tried uploading the Calendar to my iDisk but got the calendar.exe file rather than the calendar with data.
How do I publish the Windows Calendar to my .Mac web pages?

  • Does anyone have a fix for "iTunes has stopped working" error, using Vista?

When I try to start up iTunes I get an error message "iTunes has stopped working" and I have to close the program. I have performed a complete uninstall of all things Apple and reinstalled iTunes but no joy.

Did you after uninstalling iTunes (and before reinstalling) checked if the following directories where also deleted ?
(These directories store your iTunes and also other Apple Products settings...)
    For XP:
    Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\Apple Computer
    Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\Apple
    Documents And Settings\<user>\Application Data\Apple Computer
    Documents And Settings\<user>\Application Data\Apple
    For Vista:
    Users\Public\Apple Computer
    Users\Public\Apple
    Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer
    Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Apple
Note: Deleting these directories also deletes the settings for other Apple Programs
Ps: Always make a backup before deleting.

  • Does 32-bit itunes work with Vista 64-bit ?

will the latest 32-bit version of itunes install and run properly on the Vista 64-bit OS ?
this is my last attempt to get itunes to work on my machine, tried everything else and frankly disgusted thus far with the freezing, etc.

i'm curious....if previous versions of itunes were installed, and i run the updater or do a full uninstall of apple software on my machine, does that completely wipe everything that was installed ? for example, the Gear drivers, USB drivers, etc ?
after numerous times trying to use itunes, it binds up (randomly), and eventually binds up windows. i can't shut down itunes, even with taskman. only option is to hard shut down my machine. up until yesterday i had not had a problem doing this, windows booted up fine. but last night i corrupted my OS, i finally got it back up and running, but there were problems after the repair. so i chose to wipe the raid array and start from scratch.
if a fresh, first time install of itunes 8 x64 will work fine, i will do it, but before i load any apple apps on my machine, this time around i'm backing up the entire partition just in case.
if i still get the problems i had before, i am reverting back to the pre-apple state, and going with wmp.
the logic here is: if a company goes on tv and bashes it's competition (Apple bashing Vista), then it's a no brainer that the problems inherit to windows users are 'seeded' by Apple. I cannot accept that Apple doesn't know what they are doing when they write software, because they are bright enough to write such software that does so many fantastic things for Macs, how is doing the same for windows that much more complicated ?

  • 64-Bit Vista and iTunes 8

    Hi!
Just a simple question: I have 64-Bit Vista Home Premium. I downloaded the 64-Bit version of iTunes, and when I choose to install it says that it will install into the x86 Program Files folder (64 Bit Vista is backwards compatible with 32-Bit programs). This might seem like an odd question, but do you think that I should install it into the 64-Bit Program Files folder? I just don't want anything going wrong, as I just got this computer a few days ago
    Thanks!

You'll find this has been an question from others ever since Apple put out the 64-bit version. [This thread|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8115760] gives you some background.
Apple's vista 64-bit version of iTunes seems to be a partial 64-bit version of unown degree. It does work fine though.

  • Boot camp and Vista home basic

everything seems to be working well with BC and Vista. Vista has this tool that automatically checks for problems, and then tries to find solutions, this is all done in the background. When I check to see if I had any problems, well I do. It states that there are missing Apple drivers and these drivers can be found on the apple website or by using Apple software update. Well Software update says all is up to date, and that goes for Apple and Vista. Is there anyone else experiencing this with Vista Home Basic?
    Thanks.

you may need to re insert leopard and re download the drivers. There is also an option to "fix" the drivers when doing this. That's what I had to do.
