Apple TV vs. YouTube

Earlier today, I tried to view videos from my YouTube channel using my Apple TV. This had worked flawlessly before. I went to watch my videos, and discovered that I wasn't logged in to YouTube, so I tried to login to YouTube. I thought I was using the correct credentials, but I kept getting the dreaded "This account cannot be used with Apple TV" error message. I double checked my login/pass, and I was using the correct ones.
No dice.
I made sure I was using a Google+ Channel for my content (I am)
Checked for available software updates (there were, and I installed them)
Double checked my login/pass, tried some other login/pass combinations
Enabled 2-factor authentication on YouTube, and authenticated
Searched both here and elsewhere on the web for answers. Folks were recommending setting up an Application Specific Password. Tried that twice.
Tried disabling 2-factor authentication
Tried revoking both of the ASPs
Tried to login again using login/pass instead of ASPs.
No dice.
What am I missing?
Apple TV 2nd Gen
Software v6.2.1
Airport Extreme v7.6.4
Comcast/Xfinity broadband
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Hey, same problem here. You may already have found the answer to your question, if you haven't, then let me break the bad news to you.... Have a read of the article below, but in brief, ATV 2nd Gen have lost support. There is NO way to view YouTube on these devices any more.

  • Will Apple reintroduce the Youtube app for iOS 6??

    Hi,
I have recently updated the iOS software on my iPad 2... I was surprised to find that the YouTube app had been completely removed and that there was no good alternative on the App Store :( does anyone know whether Apple plan to reintroduce their YouTube app again or are we stuck with having to use Web browsers from now on??!!
I use youtube a lot and I'm sure many other people are wondering about this?!
    Thanks

YouTube is  not now part of iOS 6. However, you can download the YouTube app at http://itunes.apple.com/app/youtube/id544007664.

  • Apple TV and YouTube - Not working

Is anybody else having trouble with YouTube through their Apple TV? It worked fine for the first 4 days last week when it was launched but now it's just "stuck" trying to connect with YouTube. Everything else with my network connection works fine so it's definitely a YouTube issue.
    Any suggestions?

I've seen quite a few similar issues posted on this forum, in most but not all cases, restarting the tv has resolved the issue. Have you tried doing this ?

  • Apple TV and Youtube Log in

I was using Youtube on my Apple TV very easily for a year. Recently, I accidentaly logged out. When I try logging in it is giving me error for Username / Password incorrect.
    I tried several things including
    - Changing password
    - Log in using other Google / Youtube account
    - Creating new account and log in
    - Creating Youtube Channel
    - Logging in with Google Plus user name
    - Creating Two Step verification
I ran out of ideas now, can anyone help me finding right solution so that I can log into Youtube account on Apple TV.

    Hi
In addition to K_Shah's list I tried google's application specific logging. With no luck.
I've got a 3 rd gen Apple TV
    Thanks million for help.

  • When will Apple TV support YouTube subtitles???

I noticed while using the Apple TV, that most of the videos I try to watch that have English subtitles will play the video but not the subtitles. So I was wondering if anyone knows when Apple TV will support YouTube subtitles because a lot of videos I watch speak in another language and therefore I need the subtitles to understand what they are saying.

Most of the YouTube video subtitles are inserted by flash. Unfortunately, ios OS products don't support flash. If you do want to play them with subtitle, maybe you can use a video converter to help you convert YouTube videos to Apple TV. The only thing you should make sure before the conversion is that the videos that you download is bearing the subtitle, then the converted files would have the substitles as well. Hope that would help.

  • Why did apple take out YouTube in the new iOS update!!!

I am so mad that apple took out their YouTube I don't even want this phone anymore I'm not even kidding when I say this if apple brings back theirs I will be very happy but as of right now I do not want to own this phone

Yeah, Apple is distancing themselves from Google (you may have noticed the maps app in iOS 6 is now an Apple product, no longer Google). But Google does have their own YouTube app available in the app store, which you can download for free. Don't think there's any reason to trash your phone.

  • Whenever I play youtube videos on my apple tv the youtube logo and menus are superimposed on the image.  Any suggestions how to see just the video?

I am unable to figure out how to view a youtube video without the youtube logo and the menus superimposed over the image.  Any suggestions?

Found the answer on my own; restart apple TV and menus no longer appear over videos and while playing music.  However, viewing streaming video on airplay is not ideal.  Sometimes the image freezes on the TV while it continues on my macbook.  Also, sometimes the sound comes from the tv speakers; other times it comes only from the computer.  Never know what will happen when I watch a streaming video.

  • Apple TV hiding YouTube search results

I just got my AppleTV 2 weeks ago, I am so frustrated, I wish it worked as seamless as my MacBook and my iPhone. I always have to reboot it and sometimes it just stops working!
Anyways I wanted to ask if anyone else is having issues with AppleTV hiding YouTube search results.
For example if I search La Roux - Bulletproof on YouTube (online, web browser) I get the official video, on AppleTV I get whole bunch of other videos BUT the official. And this is not the only one. A lot of my YouTube favourites do not appear either.
I am under the impression that they hide the videos that are for sale on the iTunes store. If that is the case it makes me feel extremely deceived. They shouldn't market the YouTube functionality then. I hope I am the one not operating it properly.
Is there a way around this?

Hi and welcome to the forum.
I've noticed this same issue myself but believe that it's driven not by Apple or YouTube as companies but instead by the unique YouTube user and whether or not they elect to have that video available on mobile devices, etc. at the time of upload.
Case in point, I've got some YT vids in which I declined upon upload to make them available on mobile devices which resulted in their not being available(or even visible) on aTV.
There's a wealth of info on this forum with all the savvy members. I'm sure someone else will chime-in and shed some more light on the subject.

  • Original Apple TV and YouTube HD

Does the original Apple TV stream HD content from YouTube?

from what i understand, the appletv displays the best possible version of the youtube video.
however i've yet to be convinced that it does actually show the 720p HD version.
there is no user selectable option on the appletv.
    TechIssues wrote:
And no. It is not a difference in screen size because youtube videos that can stream all the way up to 720pHD look worse on my tv than even the worst of non-hd channels.
that's not a good comparison to make to be honest.
the bitrate of tv channels will be much higher than most HD content on youtube.
bitrate is more important than resolution.

  • When will Apple update the YouTube app?

I have been waiting for an update for the YouTube app but after seeing ios 6 it doesn't seem like they are going to update the YouTube. App anymore. So is apple ever gonna update it?

  • Since I upgraded to IOs 6, can't use my apple tv neither youtube can you help me?

I have problems with my apple tv since i haved downloaded IOS 6

People who need to SCAN & PRINT without a compatible driver from their manufacturer can use Apple's very basic "PRINT & SCAN" utility in System Preferences:
Click the Apple menu ( ), and then click System Preferences .
    Click Print & Scan ( ).
Click Scan , and then click Open Scanner .
Click Show Details . The details of the scan display, including options to modify scan settings such as output type.Figure 2: Example of the Show Details scanning screen
Change any settings as necessary, and then click Scan .
The next window looks like this:
    Hope this helps

  • Apple tv and youtube

Can i sutup the size of the screen? It automaticly fill the screen but cut the corners i would prefer to see the whole video xD

it'll be your TV that is cropping the image, not the appletv.
check your overscan settings on the TV.

  • Is Apple going to make Safari compatible with Youtube again?

Like many others, I have tried every fix to be able to watch Youtube videos on Safari. I have a 2007 Mac book. I get sound, but no video just a black screen. Works in 32 bit mode but I made this fix, not Apple. Youtube works fine on Camino, Chrome and Firefox. One would think Apple would want Youtube to work on their browser which used to be my favorite. Has Apple even addressed this incompatibility issue? Until they do I suggest Camino. It is pretty cool.

You're welcome. And Extensions aren't the issue.
If you still have problems with Flash, repair permissions.
Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
If you see any warnings re: SUID messages, they can be safely ignored, information here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448?viewlocale=en_US

When you are finished, restart your Mac.
Just in case, check ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins. If you have ClickToFlash installed, try moving the plugin to the Trash. Relaunch Safari.
