Apple TV wifi connection to BT home hub 2 and Apple MacBook

Software update available when I switch on Apple TV tonight so I updated, TV restarted automatically and is only erratically connecting to router and when it does asks for network password.  I am quite new to Apple Mac but found my router details and put in the only password I have - an administrator password but that is not the one!!  I switched router off and on again - no result - looked at BT broadband help - no help.  Any ideas welcome please to a very new Apple Macbook user.

there are 3 passwords you can be asked for
wifi encryption password this is the password that make sure only people who you wish to can use your internet with your wifi this is set by you
appleID password this is to buy stuff using your apple account
shared itune lib password if you have a computer and share it's conetent then you can set a password (this is don in itunes on the computer)

  • Wifi connection issues with Home Hub 5

Hi can any body help because I am starting to get very frustrated with the Home Hub 5 and it's wireless connection.
infinity 2 was installed at my house in the beginning of September, everything worked Ok for three weeks then for no apparent reason the hub kicked out all of my wireless devices (phones, kids iPods, tablets etc) at 6:45 one morning. When I got home from work I rang BT and was told to perform a Pin reset. This seemed to work but less tham 48 hours later at exactly the same time in the morning the hub kicked out all of my devices again, this time I just pressed the restart button on the top of the hub and everything reconnected but the Wifi range within my house had dropped. A few days later the hub kicked all my devices out again (each time it has done this the light on the hub has remained blue showing it is supposedly working OK)
One evening this week the hub of its own accord cycled through all the colours of lights indicating problems and that it was restarting. Today at 10:15 the hub kicked all my Wifi devices out again. I have contacted BT every time this has happened and told them about the poor range of the Wifi signal.
I do not want to be restarting/resetting my Hub every couple of weeks i need a permanent solution.
One of the reasons I switched from TalkTalk to BT when fibre became available was the fact that the Home Hub 5 was supposed to be the best provided router by any of the networks, being the only one that is an AC class router. The thing costs £130 if you want to by one. Quite frankly the £60 TP-Link dual band router I bought when I was with TalkTalk had a better range and was more stable. I would switch back to that if I knew BT's router settings (but they like to keep that a secret)
I really am beginning to regret switching from TalkTalk. Please someone restore my faith in BT.
Sorry for the lengthy rant but I hope you can understand why I've ranted for so long.
    Nick

    Hi imjolly
Sorry its taken a while to reply to your post.
I wanted to try BT's latest attempt at a solution before i tried your idea.
Since your reply the Home Hub 5 has dropped the Wifi connection to my devices another three times.
The second time less than 30hours after BT's so called fix, which was to make sure the 5Ghz channel was not syncing with the 2.4Ghz channel. Tonight it went again and BT's response was to take the router out of smart channel selection and manually select channel 9,6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 36,40,44 or 48 on 5Ghz. Well I havent even bothered with that, if the prats at BT would look at their records they would see they have already suggested that.
This HH5 is the most unreliable piece of garbage i have ever had the misfortune to use. WHY OH WHY did I leave TalkTalk
I have tonight tried your solution. Fingers crossed that this works.

  • Problems with BT infinity Home hub and Apple TV

I've just changed over from Sky Broadband to BT Infinity. Broadband speed is about 37 which is fine and when using the Apple TV I have no problems connecting to the Internet for youtube or downloading films but I cannot access my music or films on my Computer in iTunes. It doesn't show up at all under Computer on the Apple TV. Homesharing is turned on and all worked perfectly OK before when using the Sky Router.
Are there some settings which I need to put in the home hub to allow access to my computer and/or iTunes ?

I has a similar problem recently with my Apple TV not picking up changes to my network until I had reset it by using the remote and pressing "menu" and "down" for 6 seconds described here.

    Thanks Ann

Do you have other mobile devices that can connect to your wifi with out issue?
    Try this:
Reboot ipad by pressing and holding both the home and sleep/wake buttons at the same time until the apple logo appears on the screen, then let go. Then try to connect to network.
Go to settings, Toggle airplane mode on/off. Make sure bluetooth is off. Turn on wif (airplane mode off). Try to connect.
    Reset Network Settings
Go to settings/general/reset/reset network settings. Then try to connect to network.
If its your home router, then reboot router by unplugging for 5-10min. (do this while you're resetting network settings).
If problem persists, then check for firmware updates on your router.(you check router manufacturer support website for downloads and instructions).

  • BT Home Hub and Airport Express Issues

    Hello all
I am having major issues setting up my airport express to my home hub and also setting up Time Capsule to join my wireless network...
I really need a step by step guide if possible.
    Can anyone help please?
    Thanks
    PC

    Welcome to the discussions!
You told us that you were having "major issues", but did not tell us specifically how you are trying to configure the AirPort Express, or what service you want it to perfrom on your Home Hub network, so providing a step by step guide is not possible without a bit more information.
Can you clarify on this, please?
In regards to configuring your Time Capsule to "join" the Home Hub wireless network, do you understand that the ethernet ports on the Time Capsule are not enabled in this type of configuration, so you will not have the option to back up large files or make initial backups using an ethernet connection?
In order for the Time Capsule to "join" the wireless network provided by the Home Hub router, you willl need to know (or be able to locate) the exact type of wireless security settings that your Home Hub is using. The Time Capsule must be provided with this information in order for it to "join" the wireless network successfully.
Can you provide this information, or if you do not know, check with your service provider to obtain this information? We cannot proceed with the configuration until we have this information.
If you are able to locate the Time Capule near your Home Hub and establish a permanent ethernet connection between the Home Hub and Time Capsule, you will be able to backup using the Home Hub wireless network and also have the option to backup using ethernet if you wish. In addition, this type of installation is much simpler to configure (and more reliable in operation in my experience) and we would not need to know the type of wireless security that the Home Hub uses if you choose this setup option.
Please post back when you have an opportunity.

  • I cant get my macbook (2008 model running 10.6.8) to connect to the home hub 5

to connect to the home hub 5 it connects eventually but is extremely tempermental... does anyone have a fix that doesnt involve messing around with the home hub settings...
for further notes, my dads macbook (same model but running 10.7) connects and works fine, as does the 2 windows desktop computers and laptops we have, my xbox and play station 3 consoles, my iphone 5c, ipad mini, my mums iphone 5, and my dads and sisters samsung galaxy note phones.... even as i type this i can kind of see the problem being with my macbook rather than anything else.... but if someone could give a solution that would be great =]

    Howdy there SwipeatronSparks,
If your MacBook Pro still has issues when connecting to your hub, I would recommend the troubleshooting for the symptoms you are seeing in the following article, named:

I have the new iOS 6.1.2 on my iPad.  My wifi connects to my home network but keeps dropping it and won't reconnect.  Did not have this problem with previous iOS.  Apple, you have a quality assurance issue.  Don't be like Microsoft where they send out pieces of junk with testing it.

Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

I can not send email from my iPad .  Have been using it for over a year, all of a sudden I can only receive email.  I have a wifi connection in my home and have a A T &T cellular data plan?

I have a 1st gen iPhone that I just updated the software to 2.0.2
Now whenever I press the mail icon it goes to the mail app for about 4 seconds, does nothing, no loading of folders, old messages, nothing.
Then it reverts back to the home screen. Tried restarting, haven't tried restoring, thought I'd look here first.
    Anyone???

If you only want the free apps, take a look here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2534
Read the steps carefully as the order in which you follow them is  critical. Note that you can do this only when creating a new Apple ID. You cannot use an existing ID.
You will of course not be able to get anything other than the free apps without entering in some sort of payment method (credit card, prepaid iTunes card, gift certificate, etc.)

  • Unknown users connecting to BT home hub

So I was poking around on the home hub and on the DHCP page I can found:
    Unkown Host
    a8:e3:ee:94:f4:0b
    192.168.1.5
    00:23:48:45
Exactly as this - which is very odd as we have no devices with this MAC address. It is definately connected as I can ping it:
    Macintosh:~ graeme$ ping 192.168.1.5

But I can't find where it is or how to kick it off. I have the network "secured" as much as the hume hub will allow so am not happy to find interlopers there. Also noticed that the number of MB downloaded the other day was rather high (~ 1GB/day) considering no one had been here.
Very odd. Any home hub experts out there who can tell me how to disconnect people? The odd thing is that there is no entry in the "Devices" section of the page. Any suggestions or insight will be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Graeme

Funny thing that - I do. After rummaging through the network settings on the PS3 it seems that it is by default in 'lurk mode' where it does not register itself with the DNS hence could not get to it from the home hub. It was switched off. Odd.
Also seems that the amount of bandwidth used according to BT on viewYourBroadbandUsage is *much* lower than that reported by the router. Odd indeed. Hmm...
Anyhow, thanks DS for the pointer!
    No probs
You could always disconnect the PS3 from the hub when online gaming isn't needed...
(And when you do, name the device via the hub manager, fix it to the issued DHCP address and no more 'who is this on my system')

  • Why is my ipad mini disconnecting my netbooks wifi connection to my home router?

almost every time that I connect my Ipad mini to the charger, my netbook connection drops out and I have to go to my ipad mini and browse something like facebook before the netbook will work again.  (Netbook is an Asus Aspire One with XP)
So I have an aspire one netbook, a home wireless router (which supports our households 3 laptops, 2 ipad mini's, an iphone, samsung, and nokia, plus occasionally the playstation.)
Everything is fine, all the connections work ok usually.  But whenever I connect my ipad to the charger, instantly the netbook drops out and no longer can connect to the wifi network - until I browse facebook on the ipad mini on the charger, then the netbook can connect to the internet again.
    It's the most bizarre thing.
I haven't done anything particular to setup anything on my ipad - just the usual apps and games.   My netbook works fine if the ipad is turned off etc, but as soon as I connect it to the charger and it turns on bam out goes my netbook connection.  Doesn't happen with my wifes Ipad mini when she charges it, or with any of the other devices as far as I can tell.  It also happens if my netbook is on and working and the ipad is on and working, both connected to the internet fine, I connect to top up the charge on the ipad, and then when the ipad goes to sleep the netbook instantly stops working and I have to go wake it up and connect to facebook and then I can carry on working on the netbook until it goes to sleep again.  The netbook definitely reports a connection to my home router and my ipad doesn't have any "be a wireless server" capabilities on it.  Must be some sort of interference but I don't know what to do about it.
Happens a lot.  Hasn't changed since upgrading the OS on the ipad to 7, still happens.  Been happening for months now.

update - it seems to happen when the ipad goes to sleep - so I connect the ipad to the charger and I can still browse the internet on the netbook (asus aspire one), but as soon as the ipad decides that nothing's happened for a while and goes to sleep, it takes out the Wifi connection at that instant - and the netbook no longer can see the internet, and I have to go and wake up the ipad and open facebook to get internet back.
    What can I try?

  • I have recently changed my bt home hub and now my airport express won't connect to it? Any suggestions?

I have recently changed my bt home hub and now my airport express won't connect to it? Any suggestions?

Anytime you change out a modem or modem router like the HomeHub, the AirPort Express needs to be reset back to factory default settings and then set up again.
The reason for this is that the Express is retaining some or all of the settings to connect to your "old" modem or hub, so it will not work correctly with a new device unless you start over again from factory default settings on the Express.
Power up the Express for a few minutes
Hold in the reset button on the side of the Exprsss for 8-10 seconds, then release and allow a full minute for the Express to restart to a slow, blinking amber light
Now, set up the Express again, like you did originally with the "old" modem or hub that you had previously.

  • I am using BT Broadband home hub and want to use my time machine - Can I turn the wireless router off in TM?

    Hi,
I have BT home hub which is now my main router in the house.  I also have Apple TV which works off the router and a network adapter around the house which is perfect for all my needs.  However, I also have a time machine but haven't used it for a while now as it's internal router overrides my current network which causes problems.
Being that i'm not very 'technical' I was hoping someone could give me a  'guide for dummies' instruction on how to turn off the wireless signal inside my time capsule without messing up the BT router?
    Many thanks in advance
    Alex

    Thanks guys,
Sorry, just to clarify, I need to connect the ethernet cable to my home hub and my TC first before i can do this?
And once i've done this will my stuff be backed up via the cable or wireless?
I know these are probably very stupid questions but like I said, i'm a div when it comes to this stuff!

  • My Apple tv is stuck on the home sharing and settings screen

For some reason my apple tv is stuck on the home sharing and settings screen. Ive already unplugged it and let it reset but its not even giving me the option to go to the home scene..HELP!!?

That is the main menu, however you are not properly connected to the network so that is why the other apps are not appearing.
Make sure DNS is set to auto (settings - general - network)
Check that location is set correctly via settings
    If on wifi try ethernet
Make sure router is up to date and has port 123 open (refer to manual if unsure)

  • Airport Express with BT Home Hub and Xbox 360

    Hi,
I know this is kind of an out there question, but im looking into buying an airport express and i was wondering if there was a way that the Airport express could connect to my existing wireless network (BT Home Hub) and share that internet connection over ethernet to my xbox 360.
My xbox is in another room and i cannot connect it to the router. I have been reading about WDS and client mode but it all goes over my head. can anyone explain if this is possible with the airport express even though i dont have an apple base station?
Im also wondering if Airtunes would work for my speaker system. Any help is appreciated!

    Welcome to the discussions!
"i was wondering if there was a way that the Airport express could connect to my existing wireless network (BT Home Hub) and share that internet connection over ethernet to my xbox 360."
Possibly. You would need to check to see if the BT Home Hub was compatible with what is called ProxySTA. Otherwise, the ethernet port on the Express will not function.
WDS would not be compatible with your BT. Even if it were, the wireless network bandwidth would be reduced by 50%. Not what you want for gaming.
Assuming your BT is a router with ethernet ports, you absolute best connection for any application, but especially gaming is an ethernet cable.
If this is not feasible, look at ethernet power line adapters. One adapter plugs into the AC socket at the router end and the other plugs into an AC socket near the 360. The adapters use the AC wiring in your home to transport the ethernet signal. This is almost as good as a straight ethernet cable and far better than wireless for gaming.
The Express would be able to join the wireless network of the BT router for use with AirTunes.
