Apple tv will not fully sync then disappear.

I work with a young man who has special needs and we have been able to use an apple tv for about the six months with no problems. It was working very well for him and he loves it.
Problem is that one day another person came into his home and unplugged the apple tv and it would not sync again. I tried everything that I could think of. I updated itunes and apple tv. I reset router and made sure all the ports and router settings were good.
I can't get the apple tv to sync, I can get as far as getting itunes to find the apple tv, but it never syncs all the way and does not transfer any data before disappearing again.
The young mans mother had a geek squad person come out to see if the router settings were okay and to see if they could get the apple tv to sync, he was here about an hour and could not get it to transfer data.
Notes:
*He uses windows vista, but i tried using my macbook and it did not work.
*He has a linksys router g.
* Has itunes 8.2 now and the latest apple tv update.
* He has norton but the settings were made sure to let apple tv stream?
* He owns two apple tv's and both are not able to sync, I only try syncing one at a time with the other unplugged.
* When I try to steam it will for about 10 mins then connection is lost.
Any advice would be a big help!

Sounds suspiciously as though something is interrupting the network frequently stopping the sync. Microwaves, cordless landline phones and various other devices including neighbouring wireless setups can cause issues.
AppleTv and iTunes are not that resilient if the connection is broken - one or other seems to refuse to reconnect unless one/other/both are restarted.
I think for troubleshooting I would try a wired sync.
This will hopefully let you work out if it's a wireless problem stopping the sync or something else eg corrupted iTunes library that gets so far then fails.
Connecting an AppleTv direct to the router with an ethernet cable - it doesn't need to be connected to the TV at this stage, but unplug an HDMI lead if there's one connected to it (leave it all connected if you have a long enough network cable of course).
Then try a sync - if it's a wireless thing it should complete the sync. If not the problem could be in itunes/AppleTv or the network environment settings.
My guess is that it's the wireless setup.
Also I assume the computer isn't set to hibrnate/sleep after 10 mins of inactivity which could abort a sync.

  • Apple TV will not complete syncing

Got an apple TV and netgear wirless router with i-mac.
    Am running i-tunes 7.1.1
I have to unplug everything and re-plug it again before i-tunes sees the apple tv as a device. It slowly starts syncing and then stops. I have to repeat this procedure over and over again. After 2 days i ave finally synced 1GB and have 15GB to go.
Does anyone know how to help me?

You say that you "disconnecting my ATV from all of my iTunes shares, and reconnecting them again." What do you mean "iTunes shares"...what specifically did you disconnect...where, what, and how? I am almost 70 years old and know just enough about computers to be dangerous. LOL
Steve Gartside suggested I try setting up my ATV configuration from scratch after ensuring that ALL library links have been properly removed from both iTunes and from the the ATV. Problem: I need specific step-by-Step instructions for doing this. I did a complete factory reset on one of my ATVs and I understand that removed all of the ATV Library Links. What does ALL Library links mean in iTunes? Where do I find them to remove them on iTunes.

  • Apple TV will not stop syncing.

I have three AppleTVs that are use with iTunes on a PC. Since the last iTunes update 8.1.1, none of the AppleTVs sync properly. The SYNC NEVER STOPS. I do custom syncing that includes, movies, music, and picture from "My Pictures" folder. I note that others have had this problem but I have not seen a solution. I have reinstalled iTunes and the recent update. I have reintalled the software on the AppleTVs. I have made sure that the firewall allows communication on port 3689. All other functions of the AppleTV work. I have rebooted the wireless router. I can rent movies, etc. Does anyone really know what the problem is? When I talk with ATV support they act like they have not heard of this issue before. What should I do to correct this issue or do we have to wait for Apple to fix it with a future iTunes update?

  • IPhone 3GS will not fully sync with iTunes 9.2

Just installed iTunes 9.2 (twice) and I cannot complete a sync of my iPhone 3GS. It seemingly stalls at Contacts or Calendar (varies on each attempt). Prior to this, my syncs would be speedy fast (less than 5 minutes.
Any ideas of what I can do to fix?
    Thanks in advance

I was sync'ing fine with iTunes version 9.1.2 and then I allowed Software Update to download and install 9.2.
Then iTunes downloaded iOS4 and did the install/restore process on the iPhone. Somewhere after that I get the message during the sync process "The iPhone (my name) cannot be synced. A duplicate file name was specified".
I deleted all the backups listed in iTunes, I unchecked the Sync box for everything so that the phone is basically empty, no Apps, music, movies.
    It still won't sync.
    Any ideas?

  • Brand new iPod will not fully sync with iTunes

Howdy! My issue seems to be similar to the other thread "new 5G iPOd formatted for windows, no Movies tab????"
I purchased a new 30GB iPod yesterday and plugged it into my iTunes (7.0.2). After naming the iPod I set it to upload all my iTunes content to the iPod. Then the registration process comes up. Once I tried to complete it I got an error saying that the iTunes Store was having a problem and I should try again later. So, I waited until the upload was done and checked my iPod. None of my videos, audiobooks or any purchased content had been uploaded.
Having only owned a first generation iPod I was ignorant of what I should see in my iTunes window with this new one. I only have four tabs: Summary, Music, Podcasts and Contacts. On my Summary page the "Update" and "Restore" buttons are grayed out and the Software Version and Serial Number display as n/a. AND it was formatted for Windows (what's up with that?).
I went to the wife's computer and did a restore and a software upgrade (Version 1.2) and saw all these tabs that my iTunes didn't have! I was elated! Plug it back into my computer and I still have the same problem, nothing has changed. At least now I'm past the registration problem as I completed that on the wife's computer. When I try to manually move purchased content to the new iPod I get an error saying my software needs to be upgraded.
So, I believe that iTunes is confusing my new iPod with the old one. But, at least on the old one I was able to upload purchased content, if not video and photos. I did name them differently, so there shouldn't be any confusion there. One thing I find odd is that my old 5GB iPod has software version 1.5 where my new 30GB iPod has version 1.2. This must be the root of the problem.
Any information would be helpful. Thanks!

  • Apple TV Shows Up, Tries To Sync, Then Disappears

Well I've spent a couple hours reading threads and searching because I knew I've seen other people having issues with Apple TV showing up in iTunes, but I haven't read about quite the same problem nor have I found an answer.
This isn't a problem with mine. My dad recently got an Apple TV. Two weeks ago I went over, got it set up, copied their entire music and photo library plus about 60GB of movies. No problems. Last week when I was there, I was trying to copy one more movie but was having problems getting iTunes to see the Apple TV. I finally gave up and streamed the movie to show him and my mother. I forgot about the problem, but my dad called me yesterday saying he couldn't get music he purchased from the Apple TV over to the computer. Figures. Apple TV is still not showing up in iTunes. Apple TV has no problem connecting to the internet though and no problem streaming from iTunes.
Between what I was trying last weekend and what I've had him do, I can't think of anything else. Restarting either the Mac or the Apple TV allows for iTunes to see the Apple TV for a moment or two. It appears to attempt a sync, then disappears from the Devices list.
The Apple TV is connecting to the network via WiFi. He doesn't have a dedicated router though. The Mac is connected to DSL via Ethernet and Sharing is on to computers via WiFi. Again Apple TV has no problems streaming or connecting to the outside world. Laptops and iPods have no problem on this shared network either.
Can anyone think of anything I could try, or maybe point me to a thread I might not have found?
    Thanks!

Sorry for starting this thread now - hours too late. The thread I knew was here somewhere popped up. I'll keep this all over there and shut this down. Thanks.

My mac book pro will not fully boot up. I have the grey background with the apple sign and the timer going round...but 20 minutes later still no desktop

You could try doing a hard shut down (holding the power button or yanking the battery) and then doing a safe boot by holding the shift key at startup:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455
Also, not sure if this applies in your case, but I've had that happen when there's a USB drive inserted either in the computer or a connected external keyboard.  I did a hard shut down, removed the drive and it went through a normal start up.

My iTunes library will not completely sync to neither my iPad nor my iPhone -- both are completely updated with the latest software. What do I have to do?? When I try to do the "autofill" option when connected to iTunes it says "no songs can be copied"...I literally bought some of these songs yesterday on my iPhone and now I can't sync them to my iPad. What is this issue? Usually I would just have to plug either device into iTunes and everything would sync, now nothing new syncs.

On your iPad tap Settings > Store
Switch Books off then back on then reset your iPad.
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

The way I did it was I got the free app sync:stream from the App Store and then added my ipod to my ps3's Bluetooth devices. Then went to audio settings and set output and input to 'Skaggs iPod' you then open the app and it will be listed under music as a media service. You then go to all tracks and click copy (press triangle) it will then begin to copy all of your songs onto your ps3 via Bluetooth. I haven't tried but I assume the same can be done with photos. I hope this was helpful reply if you have any questions :) good luck

I had trouble with a iTunes download.  Two songs of an album were not complete.  I contacted iTunes and they redownloaded the tunes.  My iTunes now has the complete copies.  The trouble is my iPhone will not accept/sync the complete copies.  It will only play the original incomplete copies of these songs.  I've made new playlists and made sure I had the correct items checked to backup/sync.  Still only the incomplete copies are played via the iPhone.  What's up?  What can I do to get to the iPhone to sync the correct version?

    - Are you saying that they are not listed in your Purchased section?
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    - Are they listed in your Puchases history when you log into your account on your computer?
    - Are they still available now for purchase? If not then you are out of luck
If they are still available and listed in your Puchase History then contact iTunes

  • TS4118 Ever since I got the iphone 5  my phone/icloud calender and contacts will not remain synced with Outlook.  I am constantly having to sign in and sign out and  unlink and re link to Outlook.

Ever since I got the iphone 5  my phone/icloud calender and contacts will not remain synced with Outlook.  I am constantly having to sign in and sign out and  unlink and re link to Outlook.  this creates multiple categories of contacts and calenders and I have no idea which is syncing with my phone, ipad, outlook.  Help.  thanks.

Sounds like the Outlook plugin isn't working properly.  You could try a couple of things:
Go to Start>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs, uninstall iCloud, the download and install the iCloud contol panel for Windows again from here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1455.  Then sign back into your iCloud account and check your syncing settings again.
Uninstall iTunes and all of its components as by following this guide exactly: Windows XP or Windows Vista/7, then reinstall iTunes.  You must follow this guide exactly or it will not be successful.  (Uninstalling iTunes will only remove the application; it will not touch your iTunes library or data.)  This will replace the Outlook plugin.
Then try your calendar again and see if it will sync properly now.

  • My iMovie keeps crashing and will not fully load. What do you think is the problem?

What would be the reason why my iMovie keeps crashing and will not fully load?

I don't know what version of iMovie you are using, nor the Mac OS X version (that's always helpful when posting questions).
However, usually when iMovie has the type of problem you mention, it's advisable to firstly trash the preference file. Here's how to go about it for iMovie '11 on Mountain Lion (similar methods apply for other versions):
Go to your Home folder <your user name>/Library/Preferences (NOT the Library folder at the top level in Macintosh HD). Similar to Lion, on Mountain Lion (10.8.3), the Home Library folder will be hidden (unlike pre-Lion OS X versions). To access it, click and hold down Go in the Finder menu bar, then press and hold down the Option key on the keyboard - the Library folder will appear in the drop down list. Slide the pointer down to Library and, as you release the pointer, the folder will open in Finder. Now you can navigate to the Preferences folder.
In your user Library/Preferences folder, locate a file named "com.apple.iMovieApp.plist". With iMovie closed, drag this file to the Desktop. When next opened, iMovie will create a fresh preference file with the default settings (this happens in the background as iMovie is loading).
If iMovie now opens and appears to be working properly, you can change the default settings in the menu item "IMovie > Preferences", as desired. Also, it's now safe to drag the old preference file to the Trash. Trashing the file will not harm any existing Events or Projects.
Note that these instructions are for iMovie '11 (currently version 9.0.9). For users on earlier versions, the preference file has a different but similar name. For example, for iMovie '09 (that's version 8.0.6) the file is named "com.apple.iMovie8.plist". Earlier versions may or may not have a number in the name, for example, "com.apple.iMovie.plist"
If this doesn't fix the problem with iMovie crashing, please come back as I have another possible solution to offer.

  • My apple TV will not show my iPhotos travel photos in sequence. I set up a sequence of photos that STAY in sequence when viewing in iPhoto on my iMac, but they do not show in sequence when my Apple TV shows them on my TV screen. My Apple TV is MC 572C/A

My Apple TV will not show my photos in iPhoto on my iMac in the same sequence of images that I can see when viewing the iPhoto photos on my iMac. This is especially frustrating when I try to show my travel pictures in sequence on my TV. I have to resort to showing them on my iMac which defeats the principle purpose for purchasing my MacTV. Does anyone have a solution?
My Apple TV is Model MC 572C/A and the software is 5.2.1 (6025)
My iMac is Mac OSX version 10.7.5

I can't recall whether slideshows are ordered by title or date, but you can manually re-arrange the albums in iPhoto, then batch change them once you have the order you want.

  • IPod Classic will not properly sync

Hey everybody. I'm really hoping that somebody could help me out with this, as I am getting rather frustrated with it.
My iPod Classic 120GB will not properly sync with iTunes on Windows 7. When I plug my iPod into my computer, I get the typical "Scan & Fix" message from Windows, and I generally just close the window without selecting an option (to Scan & Fix or Ignore), as neither option has ever seemed to change anything.
I used to have over 100GB of music on my iPod, collected from various sources over the past 5 years or so, but a few months ago I plugged my iPod in to add new music to it, and iTunes did not recognize any of the files on my iPod. When I ejected it, there was no music on my iPod, but it still had 100GB of space filled. I decided to just bite the bullet and reformat my iPod, even though I would be losing most of my music, in hopes that I could make it work correctly.
However, after I reformatted it, I have continued to have problems. I have reformatted using both iTunes and the Windows reformatting tool. Every time I plug my iPod in to add new music, the same things happen. I'm not automatically syncing iTunes to my iPod, because I like to be able to manage my music manually. I can add some music to it, but certain files will not copy and then nothing alphabetically after those files will copy either. I eject my iPod and use it normally throughout the day, but then when I plug it back into my computer again to try to add the rest of my music, iTunes says that my iPod has no music on it (even though space is being used). When this happens, I just restore the iPod and try again, and this is getting extremely aggravating.
My music is all in MP3 format, and I am not trying to add movies, pictures, or any other files to my iPod (other than cover art). I have run anti-virus checks and stuff on all of my music files, and everything has come up clean. Should I try converting all of my music to AAC, or will this just take forever and not actually fix anything? I have already tried downgrading to an older version of iTunes, and I have still been having the same issues. I don't know what else I could do, and I really don't have the money to buy a new iPod.
Thanks in advance for any help or advice!

There may be some hardware fault on the iPod's hard drive, which is causing this problem.  Your use of manual loading may be agravating the problem, because you are making the iPod apply many small incremental disk access updates.  If you used automatic syncing, iTunes makes all changes at once, with one disk access, then dismounts the iPod's disk and spins down until the next sync, when it again makes all updates at once.
I understand why you want to use the manual method, but here's a way to "replicate" what you do manually using automatic syncing.
Create a new playlist in iTunes.  Load this playlist with ALL the songs you want on the iPod.
Select the iPod in iTunes.  There is a row of "tabs" (starting with Summary).  Click on Music there.  On the Music tab, set it to Sync music using Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  Below that, keep it simple by checkmarking ONLY that new playlist with the songs you want on the iPod.  When you click Apply, the songs on that playlist sync to the iPod.
Going forward, to update the iPod's songs, just update that playlist (add and remove songs).  Basically, instead of manually updating the iPod, you are manually updating the playlist.  It's the same work, but with several key advantages:
    - The iPod does not need to be connected to make updates, increasing flexibility and reducing wear-and-tear on iPod.  Just connect the iPod once after you are done making all changes to the playlist.
    - Updates to a playlist are instantaneous.  Updates made directly to an iPod (especially one with a hard drive that may need to spin up) takes a few seconds to a few minutes, depending on data size.  You're just waiting.
    - Many small updates to the iPod's hard drive is more wear-and-tear, compared to iTunes applying all of your changes with one consolidated disk access.
    - iTunes keeps the iPod's "disk" NOT mounted, except when syncing.  This reduces wear-and-tear, and the chance of data corruption occuring.  The manual method requires the iPod's disk to be mounted at all times (until ejected).
    - Because the iPod's disk is not mounted most of the time, you don't need to eject before disconnecting.
    - You have a backup of all of your iPod songs on the computer's hard drive.
    - If you do a Restore, or if you get a new iPod, all you do is go to the Music tab and select that one playlist again, and click Apply.  Everything back to the way it was before, with a few mouse clicks (and 20-30 minutes or so of syncing).
If you want multiple playlists on the iPod, just create those playlists in the iTunes library.  Name them so that they all appear grouped together in the iTunes sidebar.  Checkmark those playlists on the Music tab.  Do your "song maintenance" in iTunes using those playlists, and let iTunes automatically sync all changes at once the next time you connect the iPod (or click the Sync button).
Try setting it up to use automatic syncing, to see if there is any improvement.
