Apple TV will not transfer all movies from computer

I have a new iMac and have transferred every movie, TV show, iPhone application and all my music to the new computer from my Mac Book Pro laptop. Everything works perfectly on both computers. I then purchased an Apple TV and connected it through HDMI to a high-end projector.
Everything was going well until I synced the device to the iMac. Once completed, it only synced 18 of my 47 movies and all of my TV shows except one. I have tried several times to get the files to transfer, but no luck. I have 2 separate iTune accounts... one from a PC I owed years ago, and a newer account when I bought the Macbook Pro. Both computers are 'authorized' on both accounts, so I don't think that is the issue.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated... thanks.

You said everything was going well until you synced to the iMac. Do you mean that you were able to sync successfully from your MacBook Pro to the ATV, all 47 movies? If this is the case, then I'm at a loss.
If you never tried syncing from the MacBook, then it's possible that some movies and TV shows are not in the proper format for the ATV. If a video works on a computer via iTunes, that doesn't mean it will work on ATV. However, if you purchased the video content from the iTunes store to the computer (intended for the ATV), then there's a problem here. We need more information.

  • Apple Tv will not sync some movies from Itunes.

    Hello,
I have had some issues with syncing my apple tv with itunes. I have overcome the initial issue of incomplete syncs etc. I now have an issue where only some of my movies in itunes are syncing. All movies to date have been ripped from DVDs using the Handbrake application. I have always set it to Apple TV which default to MP4. Has anyone had any experience with this. Is there a setting I am missing, or a better way to rip movies than Handbrake.
I am using an Imac running Leopard and all software is up to date.
    Cheers

My Apple TV will not upload a movie   What is wrong

1st of all ripping DVDs is illegal in the US (where this forum is hosted) so i would suggest you not talk directly about ripping DVDs and speak in just general terms of you files if you don't want to get your post deleted..
there might be few reasons why you get that message
    1) there is more to the file than just it's format.. it must also be within certain parameters to be played on appleTV... to facilitate streaming appleTV limits the size of the file and it data rate, frame rate, resolution, codec, codec profiles etc(see below). software usually have an appleTV setting.. it is usually best just to use that setting and not futz around with your own custom settings unless you know what you're doing
    *Video formats supported*
*H.264 and protected H.264 (from iTunes Store):* Up to 5 Mbps, Progressive Main Profile (CAVLC) with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps (maximum resolution: 1280 by 720 pixels at 24 fps, 960 by 540 pixels at 30 fps) in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
*iTunes Store purchased video:* 320 by 240 pixels, 640 by 480 pixels, 720 by 480 pixels (anamorphic), or high-definition 720p
MPEG-4: Up to 3 Mbps, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps (maximum resolution: 720 by 432 pixels at 30 fps) in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
    2) that message also appears if you are streaming for some reason you have lost connectivity to your computer.. network interference, computer goes to sleep or turned off, iTunes is closed etc.
    3) could be caused by the file becoming corrupted, HDD corruption etc..

Apple TV will not play rented movies. Says it is being played on another device, which it is not. Downloaded movie via iTunes on my iMac.
I've tried restoring the TV, updating my iTunes - nothing is working. It is definitely not playing on my computer.

Sign in to your iTunes account settings on the computer (click on the AppleID top right if you're actually signed in).
In your purchase list find the purchase and use the 'Report a problem' link to tell the store.
Assume you've not moved the rental to another device where it resides but is not being played.

If the 2 computers have the correct cable connections, try the Target Disk Mode. Then copy them over or use an external drive to transfer them.

  • ITunes will not transfer my purchases from phone to computer?

I had to restore my computer just to get itunes working on my new computer, and while i did this, I lost over 300 songs that i had purchased from itunes. Some songs were from my moms account, and some were from mine. but it says only 300 and something songs were on her account and i KNOW for a **** fact that i had 1252 songs on her account for me alone. And when i go to transfer purchases from my phone to my computer it will not transfer. Please fix this or else i will never use itunes again and i will bash this companys name. Never in my life have i had such a **** experiance with this company. you should be ashamed of all of these problems. I cant uninstall itunes unless i want to restore my computer again. so DO NOT offer me that suggestion because i WILL NOT restore this computer a 6th time because of your screw ups

We are fellow users here on these user-to-user forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support nor Apple.
You should be able to copy them back onto your computer from your backup of your library that you've been keeping. Both accounts are authorised on your computer's iTunes and the music was purchased from iTunes, and File > Devices > Transfer Purchases doesn't copy them ? That won't copy music bought from other sources and/or copied from CDs.
Depending upon what country that you are in and if they are still in your country's store, then you might be able to redownload your purchases on your computer via the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the store home page on your computer's iTunes, though redownloading an account's purchases may tie the computer to that account for 90 days : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4627

  • Apple TV will not load NetFlix movies using wireless connection.

I recently purchased an Apple TV and tried to use it wireless with NetFlix.  It simply will not load the movie.  It starts to buffer and will not complete.  Eventually I will get an error message after maybe 5 minutes.  Completely unusable.  I can run the AppleTV with ethernet and it works fine.  I can also go to other content sites wireless and it works ok, although slow for things like Youtube. I can also run NetFlix from my ipad around the house without any problems.  So it is definitely the AppleTV working wireless and most likely something specific to NetFlix.  I get very good wireless download speeds in my house of between 30 and 60 Mbps. If I can't get this problem resolved I will be returning my AppleTV and try a different route because having to go ethernet is not practical for me.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

  • My Ipod will not transfer all of its songs to purchased Itunes song transfer.  My last pv crashed, I dont have access to it any more.  I want my library back on Itunes.  ANy help?

My Ipod will not transfer songs.  my old PC crashed and could not recover anything from it.  When I purchased my new Dell, when I loaded Itunes back on to it my content library will only transfer over purchased Itune songs.  I have tons of songs I downloaded from the old "CD" onto my new Itunes account from my Ipod.  Any help?

so then technically I can't transfer the songs off my ipod to my itunes library?  since it is one 1 transfer from pc to ipod...correct?  So when I synch my ipod the warning screen comes up and says "there are content not in the library, erase and synch library to Itunes, only purchased songs can transfer."   Can I leave the songs on my ipod and when I purchase new songs to itunes I can still transfer those correct?  while having the others on there that wont transfer?

After I had purchase movies, and TV shows, they just stay on the Apple TV. I was not able to transfer them into the iTunes.
I tried to transfer these movie or TV shows purchase by Selecting from iTunes File->Transfer Files from Apple TV, but it failed

try un-authorising and the re-authorising your itunes library.
that's what fixed it for me when mine started not auto-syncing content back to itunes.

  • Apple TV1 will NOT transfer purchases back to iMac

    Hi All,
Last night I purchased two videos on my Apple TV (1st Gen). When I tried to transfer purchases back to my iMac, they did not transfer. I tried rebooting my ATV, then tried re-syncing, then I tried de-authorizing and authorizing my iMac, still no resolution. All the devices have the latest software updates as well as my iTunes. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for the response WC. I will do what you suggested when I get home. So was I NOT supposed to buy those videos on ATV? And going forward, am I supposed to buy from iTunes only and stream it to watch it? Seems to be an inconvenient way of buying, if you're using ATV and you see something you like and you want to buy it and watch it immediately.
