Apple TV wireless problems
Right here goes...
I have an imac g5 with an internal Airport Extreme Card. I have been using it successfully to connect to apple tv using the internet sharing option. When it works, it works great, it syncs and streams with no problems.
Now here comes the problem, occasionally apple tv disappears from itunes even though internet sharing and airport is still turned on - this can happen when i put the imac to sleep over night or when i have to restart my computer. Sometimes I can get it work again by turning the internet sharing off and on and restarting itunes, other times whatever I try i cannot get it to reconnect to itunes.
I have a complete fully working backup on an external drive and when i start up that drive, itunes recognizes apple tv.
Anyone got any ideas what is happening or what i can do? - I can't keep using my backup to restore every week, it's driving me mad!! ....and no i cant go an buy a new airport extreme because i'm moving into my new house next week, so money is a bit tight!

I missed this point from my original post - When I try to reconnect to my network, ATV has disappeared from iTunes and although my ATV sees the wireless network, it is unable to reconnect.
Basically i use SuperDuper! to create a backup of my internal start up disk (when apple tv is working and connected to itunes) - this is saved on external firewire drive. If i lose my connection to ATV, and after trying everything i know to reconnect I have to restore my imac using the backup i have made. This process gets my ATV connected and working again.
I know its very long winded and unnecessary to restore but once i have lost my wireless connection I can't get it back even by factory resetting my ATV.
Surely my iMac and ATV should be able to reconnect and establish a network without me going through the above process, right? Or is the only way a Airport Extreme Base Station even though I have already installed in my iMac?

I am currently trying to use my Apple TV at school. We have one central network that you can connect to, but through that network you must go online and type in your user name and password to access the internet. Kind of like how you would use wireless internet at a starbucks or wifi-hotspot. I tried to use this way, but I can't get past the setting date and time screen. Can anyone help?
itunes libraries are visible from the other device (imac and mac book pro), and i am able to transfer songs, movies etc between the two.
its only the itunes library on the imac that isnt recognised on both the atv3's. everything else is working perfectly. -
Apple TV network problem continues to aunt me...
Last week, I updated firmware of my *D-Link DSL604T* ADSL wireless router and had a problem with Apple TV wireless connection. It was not really the wireless connection, because its internet connection to see movie trailers worked fine, but only iTunes library connection. After serveral days of trials and errors, I gave up abd bought a new *Linksys WAG200G* router.
At first, I thought the problem was over. I could stream my music wirelessly. Now I just realized that I was wrong, it still have problem. The problem is - if I play my streamed music for a long time (4-5 hours), music starts to stutter and the stops completely. The iTunes library is still active in Apple TV. If I choose to play my streamed music again, my music will stop at a shorter time, like 30-60 minutes. I think this time it's wireless problem by this router, again, doesn't have any trouble with my other Wifi-enabled devices.
Right now, I hooked up the *Airport Express* to my router and used it to connect to Apple TV. Apple TV now can see both Airport Express and the built-in Wifi of my Linksys router. Anytime I choose to stream from Airport Express I have no problem, and always have problem with the built-in Wifi of my Linksys.
So, is there any known compatibility between Apple TV and various Wifi access point?

4. Select "Test Connection"
5. Follow the on-screen instructions
6. If it fails to connect, go to "Choose Network".
7. Re-Connect to your network
8. If it does not work, then there is a problem with your router or your internet provider has failed to provide you with an internet connection. -
I just upgraded to iTunes version 10.6.0.40 and now I am having problems connecting to my Airport Express and I get an error message 15000. Does anyone know what that means? I am using an ethernet cable so it is not a wireless problem. Trying to find out if this is realated to the iTunes upgrade. Any ideas out there?

Apple Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard not Connecting to iPad
Hey, I try to connect my Apple Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard is not connecting to my iPad. I tap Bluetooth "On" and it searches for devices. Then I slide the switch on the back of my keyboard to the green light and the iPad picks it up and says "Not Paired." So I tap the keyboard and it just spins and spins and spins until the keyboard times out and powers off. Then it disappears and my iPad can't find any devices. I repeated the process several times and I got the same result.
Any help would be appreciated!
ThanksI had a very similar problem, with a new model wireless keyboard. The set-up is not very intuitive (and the instructions for both the iPad and the keyboard are not particularly helpful). Here's how I got it to work:
1. If the keyboard has already been paired with another object -- e.g., I was testing out my iMac keyboard -- you should be completely out of range of that other object (more than 30 feet away).
2. Make sure Bluetooth on the iPad is disabled.
3. The keyboard should not be "on" -- i.e., no solid green light.
4. Press and hold the power button on the keyboard until you get a blinking green light. This should take just a few seconds.
5. Turn on Bluetooth on the iPad.
6. At this point, it should detect the keyboard and instruct you to enter a combination of keys to pair the two devices.
I found that you have to follow this sequence or it won't work. For example, if you have Bluetooth on on the iPad before holding the power button on the keyboard, it won't work.

More on wireless problems with 10.4.8+
There has been much said and discussed about wireless problems with the Macbook's with 10.4.8+ updates, both the C1D and the C2D macbooks have seen problems with a number of units.
Unfortunately, it is very hard to find real information on this website, because the forum is drowned in "wireless problems!" posts from people that have not read the previous posts.
Since there may be several unrelated wireless problems around, I'll try to specify my particular problem and add in solid information, so others can check if their system behaves like mine.
First. The symptoms:
1. The Macbook does not connect to WEP or WPA networks after sleep or being shut down.
2. The Wireless icon blinks between black and grey.
3. The Apple support information about deleting all networks and keychains WORKS, but only until next sleep or shut down. Afterwards the procedure has to be done again to connect (very annoying).
4. This may be unrelated, but Keychain Access crashes on startup and can only be run in Rosetta.
First, we need to establish a few things
1. The problem is real and is not limited to a particular Access Point (I have had problems with both a D-link 624+ and now a Netgear DG834GT from Sky Broadband.
2. The problem exists with 10.4.8 and 10.4.9 but not with 10.4.6 or 10.4.7. This I have tested multiple times.
3. It really does not matter if I use WEP or WPA.
Now. /var/log/system.log does actually output an awful lot of stuff during this.

For me, resetting the router does not work, only removing network from Airport preferences and re-adding it. Have you confirmed that this is indeed the same issue by looking what gets printed to /var/log/system.log?
To show the output, do the following from the terminal
sudo cat /var/log/system.log
This prints the contents of the log-file to the terminal window. -
My new apple bluetooth wireless keyboard types a "j" when I hit "k" and a "k" when i hit "j". Any ideas?

I would not waste time trying to troubleshoot the problem. Since it is new, call Applecare with a warranty problem. I had a similar problem with a new KB some time ago and it was replaced at no cost (shipping included).

JBL wireless subwoofer signal now interferes with my Apple TV wireless signal.
Ever since the newest software update, my Apple TV wireless signal interferes with my wireless subwoofer signal, immediately shutting off the music I am playing via Apple TV. I have had my Apple TV since December 2011 with the same exact speaker set up and wireless internet and it worked fine - everything was compatible. Ever since the latest software update (I updated my ATV software around the time when Apple released the 1080 HD Apple TV last month) my wireless subwoofer's signal interferes with the streaming wireless signal, immediately shutting down the music that's playing through ATV.
It is obviously the subwoofer because everything works fine when I switch the subwoofer off. I have tried changing the channel of my woofer and the frequency of my wireless internet, but the problem persists.
My biggest frustration is that everything worked fine and was compatible up until the last few weeks. Has anyone else experienced this? Any solutions or advice?
Thanks!It's actually your subwoofers fault. I have a Samsung wireless subwoofer and it uses 2.4 and 5ghz the same frequencies WiFi use, it is supposed to pick a channel that isn't used. It occasionally goes out for a split second.
2.4 has channels like 1-12
5 has like 5 channels something like 145-150 or something
Your subwoofer is picking the same channel your wifi router is using. Wait I just say you said you checked your WiFi channel. Was your router on "Auto" channel selection before you changed it? Does your router support 2.4 and 5ghz? if so are both set to broadcast same network name and password?
On a computer go to http://tools.meraki.com/stumbler and see how many routers are near you and what channels they are using. What kind of router do you use? -

So I'm yet another victim of the mysterious Macbook wifi problem. Have been for several months.
Anyway, I dropped into console, narrowed the search to 'airportd' and tried to activate AirPort from a problem spot in the house.

Just for a recap... This problem happens anywhere I go, basically when I'm not in the same room as the access point. I've tried dropping AirPort from the configuration pane, I've changed the MTU, I've flashed the PRAM more times than I can really count.
I'm not that great with the internals of these things but maybe one of you knows what exactly the error codes mean.
I've also tried using the wireless under bootcamp in Windows XP, I have the same problems. Last night I tried the latest Ubuntu Live-CD installer and the wireless problems persisted, so I'm guessing something in one of the updates messed up the hardware.
Can anyone else try to replicate this?
I called the nearest Apple store and the Genius I talked to said that I was the first time he had heard of this problem. Anyway I figure it might be useless but I'm going to make an appointment with them and try to replicate the problem in-store.Don't pay any attention to anything you see here or on the rest of the Internet, especially when it concerns Apple. What looks like "a ton" is really only a handful of people. And you have no idea what they have done to their machines. There are several million other people who have no problem at all or are smart enough to diagnose a hardware problem on their own and take it in to Apple.
What you have already done in this thread is much, much better information than the average "me too" post you will find. No one posts diagnostics. No one makes an attempt to diagnose the problem. No one make an appointment to have Apple look at the machine. I've seen it over and over again. They just want to rant.
I suspect you will be up and running while all the "others" are still ranting. -
I used my apple tv wirelessly and it worked fine,then I plugged an Ethernet wire into the Apple TV to move it and could not it to connect. When I unplugged Ethernet wire it will not give me a wireless option. How do I get that back?
If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
1. Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
2. Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
3. Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
4. Open iTunes.
5. Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.
(You may already have a micro USB cable if you have a camera or other digital device) -
FiOS, Actiontec, MBP, and 10.5.5 wireless problems

Your $1000 router, is probably only worth $10 today, if it doesn't meet today's current standards. Apple makes an effort to follow the standards of present day. If you spent $1000 on your router, I sure hope the company that makes it has a good support system. If it doesn't, it sounds like you made an unwise purchase then, and should sell it and get a better router. Apple's Airport Extreme base stations are only $179. You can setup a wireless distribution system with them, and Airport Express base stations which are only $99 that probably will cover just as many machines as your $1000 router.

I recently recieved my new g500S this last week. I was finally able to get it out of the box and up and running yesterday. To my surprise, I was unable to get my wireless to detect any wireless access points. Several hours were spent troubleshooting including several driver reinstalls, wireless router setting changes, and internet searchs. All of which were unsuccessful.
This morning, I attempted one last attempt to troubleshoot the problem. I had found through a search that some lenovo laptops had been shipped with the wireless wiring reversed. When I opened the case, I found not one, but two immediate problems. First, I noticed that the wire sheath on one of the wires(the black wire) connecting to the wireless had been rubbed bare. Second, the two wires(black and white) had been reversed on their connection to the card. After that was fixed, I powered up the laptop and found that the wireless was able to detect all nearby access points and connect to my router without difficulty.
I have been pleased with the quality of Lenovo in the past but this has been the latest purchase in several years from Lenovo and I am very disappointed. This lack of quality control is unacceptable and I will reconsider any further personal purchases or recommendations to my customers. Sleep function = wireless problem?
I have an Intel iMac 2.4 GHz/OS 10.5.2 (the earlier version of Leopard came pre-installed) and a lynksis router.
Like many others I experienced an unstable wireless connection from day 1 with this computer. The other two Macs in the house, both running Tiger had and have no such problem.
Changing the router channel from 6 to 3 seemed to help somewhat, but the problem persisted.
I noticed it was worse when the computer had just been wakened from sleep. That is, the wireless signal would start strong then quickly fade away. I found that putting the computer back to sleep, then immediately waking it up would restore the signal, but I often had to do this a dozen times during a session of an hour or so.
Since there seemed to be some connection between the sleep function and the wireless connectivity I decided to experiment. I went to System Preferences/Energy Saver and set the sleep function to Never. The screen is still set to black out after fifteen minutes. So now the computer is awake all the time, only the screen darkens after some inactivity.
For three days now the wireless signal has been extremely robust - no fading out whatsoever and the bars have remained at full strength. This certainly doesn't explain the cause of the problem, but it does seem to be an effective work-around, at least so far.
Has anyone else had a similar experience? And can anyone explain why the sleep function would affect wireless connectivity?That a graphics update would fix the sleep function (not to mention the associated wireless issues) seemed odd to me too. I'm just reporting what the Apple tech said. I do have the impression that if they really can't solve your problem their next objective is to get the caller off the line as pleasantly as possible. That may possibly be the case here.
I would certainly be interested to know if anyone else has a similar problem. The two necessary conditions seem to be:
1. Sleep function (as set from System Preferences) unreliable, e.g. doesn't always put the computer to sleep, sometimes invokes such a deep sleep that the computer must be unplugged to restart, sometimes wakes up by itself;and
2. Wireless signal slows to a crawl shortly after awakening from sleep (and in my case, remains unstable, requiring toggling sleep on/off or airport card on/off to resume strong signal.)
As long as I have the sleep function set to Never the wireless problem disappears. It's been almost two weeks now, so I'm pretty sure there's some link between the two conditions. After the last software update from Apple a couple of days ago I reset the sleep function back to 15 minutes and the wireless fade immediately started up again. Reset it to Never, and, voila!, no problem since.
I hope anyone else who has both sleep and wireless problems will try this. So far it's the first reliable clue I've found regarding the issue of unstable wireless. -
How do you clean the battery tube for the Apple aluminum wireless keyboard
We have an Apple aluminum Wireless keyboard. My daughter said the weak battery signal came on and then while later the keyboard stopped working. I had a difficult time loosening the endcap whre the batteries are stored. When I finally got it open, it was appearant that one of the batteries had leaked. Now the keyboard does not work when I insert new batteries. The corrosion is in the area of the last battery (closest to the opening)and on the cap. What is the best way to clean this up?
I just had this same problem. I had much difficulty getting the third battery out of the keyboard battery tube due to corrosion. Despite a rubber mallet and some careful tapping of the keyboard on a hard surface, I resorted to a few drops of vinegar.....after a minute or so I was able to pop the last battery out.
There was light corrosion along the inside of the tube which made putting new batteries in difficult, and besides if I were to force the new batteries in - I would be facing the same problem next time. So, I ended up using a shotgun cleaning kit to clean the tube. I attached a 20 GA bore brush to the cleaning rod and ran it through the battery tube a few times. Blew the tube out with compressed air, and inserted the new batteries. The wire bore brush worked like a charm as I am typing this reply on the keyboard. Just thought I'd mention the idea. -

I think I may have the 10.4.10 problem -- here are my symptoms:
Wireless icon in toolbar shows full strength
Network control panel shows that I'm pulling a valid IP from the wireless router (in my case, 192.168.1.2)
'Network Diagnostics' initially reports problems sometimes, but then figures out that everything is OK
Router admin shows that internet is working, and indeed can connect through ethernet from router, and router is pulling a 'real' ip address from modem
Firefox, Safari, Mail, Software update, etc can not connect to the internet.
If Network Diagnostics can see that the settings are valid, why can't TCP/IP apps work? Is there some kind of bindings thing I can run that would work?
I'm currently typing this with an ethernet cord hooked in, which is SO late 90's.
This all happened when I updated to 10.4.10.
a) How do you downgrade to 10.4.9?
b) How do we notify Apple of this problem?
c) Is it MacBooks only, or everyone?

Thanks for the response D, but actually the 192.168.1.x range is what my router gives -- my 'real' IP address goes to the router (a cheap netgear, but it's never given me any trouble) and the router assigns an internal IP to the wireless devices.
So my 'real' (external) IP shows up in the router control panel (68.160.x.x @ last check) or via whatismyip.com etc, but the router also gives 192.168 addresses via DHCP. (In my experience, if the computer is truly not pulling an IP, it assigns itself one in the 169.254.x.x range.)
That's what confuses me about this -- everything is working as it should... even Network Diagnostics (or whatever it's called) reports a working connection... and yet the connection somehow isn't working for any internet services.
For a minute I thought maybe it was a binding type thing, where the TCP/IP request didn't know where to go, but it happens with mail and FTP as well, so that means that all the ports are blocked, right?
I'm completely befuddled. Anyone know how to reinstall 10.4.9 just in case it's that? I downloaded the updater, but the installer won't let me downgrade...
