So i am not able to press the menu button to enter the apple tv and use it.
Not able to reset it also, since remote is not workin.
Is the only option getting micro usb cable and factory restore ???
    Please help guys... Cheers..

    Hi, Katie.
I had this same issue and what worked for me was power cycling my wireless network and the Apple TV.  However, if the issue persists, here are a couple articles that will walk you through troubleshooting this issue.

    Apple TV: Troubleshooting wireless connections

If the steps in the article above do not resolve the issue, then a restore may be needed.

  • Won't set date/time - still....

I have a second generation Apple TV.  I have never had a problem with it.  Until today.
I've read through a.l the forums and looked through the net.
I just came in today and the only icons on the screen were computer and settings.
Have tried to restart, reset, and powered everything off and reset my router.
I've check the IP address and it is correct.
I tried the solution of pressing the remote menu button and the back arrow to get the broken chain - - it gave me the broken chain and I pushed the forward button and got the connected chain.  - no difference.
If I try to restart or reset it gets to the activation screen and just spins and spins, then goes to set date and time and spins and spins.  It will never go anywhere (left it while we went to Wal-Mart.  If you hit menu on the remote it "skips" it.  You can't troubleshoot or anything because it tells you that it cannot connect to the internet, or the itunes store, or to your computer, until you have set date and time.
I would appreciate any fixes anyone has for this.  I have set up a $19.00 phone call with Apple for tomorrow night at 7 pm.  Would love to have it fixed before I have to call them.
    Thanks in advance.

I had the same issue. Seemed the apple tv broke.
The answer is the apple TV update to 5.1 messed it up. Here's the solution:
    1. Download the previous version of your apple TV software here depending on your model:
    Apple TV 2:
    http://appldnld.apple.com/AppleTV/041-4362.20120605.t8i4U/AppleTV2,1_5.0.2_9B830 _Restore.ipsw
    Apple TV 3:
    http://appldnld.apple.com/AppleTV/041-4361.20120605.grjot/AppleTV3,1_5.0.2_9B830 _Restore.ipsw
    2. When I downloaded it, it came as a compressed ZIP file. You need to change its extension to IPSW. (just replace zip by ipsw, no need to uncompress its contents)
    3. You will need a MicroUSB to USB cable, in order to connect your Apple TV to your PC in diagnostics mode. Once you get it connected, open iTunes.
    4. Wait til you see Apple TV on devices. Once you see it click on it.
    5. Press and Hold the "Shift" key (PC) and hit the button "Restore". That way, instead of searching Apple's servers, you'll select the local file you just downloaded.
    6. Wait til is restored and a message pops telling you to unplug the USB cable, then do so. In my case The Apple TV kept blinking a while and couldn't power it off with the remote. Just unplug the power cord and replug it after 10 secs.
    7. Turn on Apple TV, select language. It'll try activate it. In my case it couldn't connect through Ethernet to the server. I unplugged ethernet cable and went to Network settings and set the Wifi password of my network. Then Restarted on Settings->General.
    8. After Restarting it activated itself and everything is working as before. Hope it works for everyone affected. Cheers!

  • Trying to setup my new ATV and it won't set date and time, and won't allow me to log in with my apple ID.

Trying to setup my new ATV and it won't set date and time, and won't allow me to log in with my apple ID to homeshare OR to test te network, which I know is correct since I changed it. I live in an apartment complex and the router is in my roommates room. ANY suggestions? I'm at the point where I may return this because it has been nothing but a hassle. I'm very annoyed and just want the product that I paid for to actually work.
The ABOUT section says Network Time: Skipped (reachable) and Activation: Failed (skipped)
I'm also using my MacBook Pro as the homesharing with iTunes up to date.

I had a similar issue wuth my new Apple TV.  If you (or your roommate) are able to change the router firewall settings, do that first.  I don't know the ports that you need, except that 123 is one of them (to set the time).  Then restart the Apple TV.  See if that will get you through the activation process.  I actually ended up restoring mine to factory settings, but I'm not sure if that step was really necessary.
I understand your frustration, though.  Getting the Apple TV to work was such a pain -- it almost feels like it is not really an Apple product.

  • My Apple TV won't set the date and time! What can I do???

My Apple TV won't set the date and time! What can I do???

That means it's having trouble connecting to the network. Make sure location is set correctly. DNS should be set to automatic. Ensure router is up to date, reboot all devices. If on wifi try ethernet.

  • HT1595 My apple tv stuck at setting date and time. Also when connecting yo network doesn't ask for network password

My apple tv stuck at setting date and time. Also when connecting yo network doesn't ask for network password

I just went through this last night. (Aug 15, 2013)
What I did to get back up and running. This is not the first time I have lost the network connection with my Apple TV 3
Products effected: Apple TV 3 and Home Sharing (My Apple TV 1 was not effected)
Power down (unplug) the Apple TV and power down your router ( in my case, it is a FIOS router, flipping the on/off works fine).
    Power both items back up.
At this point, I usually can reenter my Apple ID and PW. and reconnect Home Sharing.  But for some reason I was unable to reconnect last night but was able to get it reconnected in the morning. I was jut to tired to deal with it last night.
A new issue that is was able to fix after a good nights sleep.
I did figure out, (after trying to reenter my ID and PW many times and having it tell me that my ID and PW was wrong), that when using the Apple TV on screen keypad to type in the user ID. DO NOT use the ".com" keypad button. Instead type out each character for .com. ( or what ever ending you use for your ID account.)
Once I typed out my full ID and PW. everything is back to 100%

  • My apple tv keeps saying setting date and time

My apple tv keeps saying setting date and time

This vexed me for a long time. Now we finally have a fix!
All credit goes to Ed Gainer, our Network Admin.
Version update 5.2.1 (6025) seems to have changed the way its searches for time. According to the Apple website’s list of ports used by Apple, the time protocol NTP would normally communicate via TCP or UDP. This was the case in previous versions, but when the update for 5.2.1 was introduced, the Apple TV displayed a “Searching for Time and Date” indicator upon restart. The only remedy was to select “Menu” on the Apple Remote. At that point, the main menu now only displayed “Computers” and “Settings” options. All the icons for other online content options such as YouTube, HuluPlus, Vimeo, etc. were missing.
After running a packet trace the ports, NTP (123), DNS (53) and ports 49152 – 65535 were used in booting the Apple TV. After some trial and error it appears that the Apple TV is searching for the time via the NTP protocol through UDP. When port 123 was opened in the firewall over TCP/UDP it still did not communicate. The solution was to specifically indicate the NTP protocol over UDP. Keeping the NTP protocol specified via TCP is also recommended.
The resolution to this problem was to create a service group for Apple including the following services.
    Name
    Protocol
    Source Ports
    Destination Ports
    NTP
    UDP
    Default (0-65535)
    123
    http
    TCP
    49152-65535
    80
    https
    TCP
    49152-65535
    443
Additionally, it is recommended to include these services in the group to encompass all of the Apple products in your environment.
    Name
    Protocol
    Source Ports
    Destination Ports
    NTP
    TCP
    Default (0-65535)
    123
    3689 (iTunes Library)
    TCP
    Default (0-65535)
    3689
    5353 (Apple TV iTunes)
    UDP
    Default (0-65535)
    5353
    Domain (DNS)
    TCP
    Default (0-65535)

  • Set Date & Time Automatically

I have an Airport Extreme tied to a cable modem. I also have an Airport Express setup using WDS (remote base station). On both the Exteme and the Express I have checked "Set Data & Time Automatically" and selected "time.apple.com".
The Extreme finally has the correct date and time. (And I assume year.) However, the Express keeps loggin this error; "No address for NTP server time.apple.com." (I am using the "AirPort Management Utility" to view the logs for each Airport.)
I tried typing in the raw ip address for time.apple.com but it didn't change anything. Other then this minor issue both Airports are working fine.
    What am I doing wrong?
      Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Your setup is similar to mine but my Express is in Client Mode not WDS. Here are some of the log entries I see. After it powers up the time is wrong and it reports the same as you of "No address for NTP server time.apple.com." but after a short time it does!

  • "Set date & time automatically" not staying checked

I don't know if this has already been discussed (searched and found nothing) but I just noticed tonight that on both my black MacBook and my new MacBook Pro will not retain the "Set date & time automatically" function. I check the box, close the window, open the date & time settings pane again and it's unclicked. I have no idea when this began happening but it's getting pretty annoying. I believe this could also be contributing to the older MacBook not working with Back to my Mac anymore.
    Anyone else having this problem?

    HI,
Open System Preferences/Date & Time. Make sure the box is checked for automatic. Now click the gold padlock icon so it's closed. You will be prompted for your admin password. Quit System Preferences and restart your Mac.
    See if that helps.
If not... Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Set Date Time Computer with Java in Linux OS

    Dear All,
How to set date time computer with Java in linux OS?
    Rgds,

There is no API for this you'd have to run an external command using Process.exec.

  • RT set date/time error

    Hi all,
I have noticed that whe I use the "RT set date/time" vi to set the time on my cFP-2010 the result is 12 hours out. i.e. If it is 2:00PM, I write 14:00 to the vi, and when I read it back, it reads 2:00 AM.
Can anyone please suggest why this is occurring, and a solution?
    Thanks
    David

What time zone are you in and how are you reading back out the time?  I believe FieldPoint
keeps GMT and if you read its time directly, i.e. view an indicator running on the controller,
it will display GMT.  If you bring the timestamp back to the pc and display it there it should
be tz adjusted according to the settings on the pc.

  • APPLE TV 2 HD model and updated to latest version 6.1.1 since doing that it won't set date and time and tells me my Apple ID and password are incorrect and I know there not. What do I do?

It connects to internet fine. I have tried restoring back to factory condition and hard wire update by connecting it to my Mac mini .
The date and time won't set. And won't acknowledge my Apple ID and password......... I am usually tech savy but this has caused me grief .
Do I need to downgrade my update....
But can't get any menus until I log in my apple account...
It can't log into my iTunes account until time and date have been set.
When I did the hard wire restore connected to Mac mini it wouldn't go past the date and time screen as it wouldn't when I did the wifi update too.
it just would get past that screen.
    Anyone help!!

This is the result of a network issue.  Ensure port 123 on the router is open.
