Apple TV won't sync or stream from iTunes

Ok, I've seen numerous threads with numerous fixes for syncing issues. I just bought this unit, lightly used. It setup fine, it sees my wireless network and does show up in iTunes 8.1. It just gives me the old firewall 3689 apple tv not responding crap and doesn't sync or stream iTunes. I've tried all the fixes I seen listed; I've even tried turning off my firewall (Doorstop) and turning off the security in my wireless network. nothing has worked at all. What is going on with this Apple? I love the ability to download TV and movies and really love the quality and concept but I want to be able to stream and/or sync content from my iTunes as well. Anyone have any other solutions? I have the latest software updates in Leopard and iTunes, etc. Thanks. Jon

I believe so. Under Settings on the Apple TV I cancelled my computer and then readded it with a new passcode. It recognized the Apple TV in my iTunes right away and it says 'when you click ok it will automatically sync' but nothing happens.

iPad (Retina Display) (iOS 7.0.4) won't sync new music from iTunes (Windows).  Only solution found was to uncheck "Sync Music" under Music tab, apply, then recheck "Sync Music" and apply.  This is timely and aggravating.  Any other solution?
I have also tried a hard reset.  I have also gone into settings and checked "display all music".
Anyone know if the new update will have solutions to this problem?

If anyone is having the same problem, there's a chance it's an issue with the Mobile Device Manager for iTunes. The key is to ditch the old/corrupt file and replace it via clean iTunes installation.
Here's the fix that worked for me:
    1. Trash iTunes (uninstall); don't forget to trash it from your dock if you have it there.
    2. Head to /System/Library/Extensions/ and trash file AppleMobileDevice.kext
    3. Head to /Library/Receipts/ and trash AppleMobileDeviceSupport.pkg  ( * this may or may not be there * )
    4. Restart computer (& empty trash)
    5. Download fresh & clean iTunes and reinstall.
Voila! The content is now properly recognized by iTunes, the capacity bar registers the correct amount and type beyond "Other", and now I can put music back on the iPad.

  • Why doesn't/When will Apple TV support 24/192 audio streaming from iTunes???!  this is needed badly.

apple tv truncates and resamples all files from itunes to 16bit/48k.  this is losing a large amount of audio information and very unwelcome for even neophyte audiophiles, just those of us who enjoy good music.  as music lovers we are forced to hop skip and jump around itunes and use other audio interfaces that don't play well with airplay or itunes and aren't nearly as flexible.  (like sonos or naim, or similar)  all just to get our higher rez music files to play at their intended bit depth and sample rate.  i have tried many solutions for this issue and still the very best would be to have apple make apple tv (which many of us use to stream audio) and the airport express output digital audio at full rates, ie. 24/192.  even 24/96 would be a very very welcome upgrade.
SO, APPLE, PLEASE PLEASE.  LET'S DO THIS.  WITH THE VERY NEXT ITERATION OF ATV.  PLEASE!!!!
    thanks.

  • Apple TV Won't Sync or Stream

    Hi,
I'm having problems syncing or streaming to Apple TV from my new iMac. Once the setup number has been entered into iTunes to start streaming nothing happens. Every time you press sync, the button goes gray for a second and then goes back to normal.
I have just tried syncing the Apple TV to my MacBook Pro to see if the problem was with my Airport Extreme but that worked fine.
Both Macs have the same firewall settings: 'Allow All Incoming Connections', but one works, one doesn't.
Does anybody know how to fix this? Is there a setting on the iMac that I have overlooked that might be the cause of this?
It is strange how Apple TV shows up fine in iTunes but it cannot sync!
I have tried the usual things like restoring Apple TV, repairing permissions etc.. and the iMac networks wirelessly with the MacBook Pro fine.
    Any help much appreciated! Thanks

Review this article, it will answer your questions:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1143
If Apple TV shows up in the device list, in iTunes, then you don't have to do the connection thing again. Likely, you are not understanding the difference between "pairing" & "sharing".
You can only "pair" with one computer at a time (which syncs the Apple TV and computer- and options then show up for this in iTunes, when you click on the Apple TV)
You likely, have set up that particular computer to "share", that means you can only stream from that computer. If you turn on your laptop, and open iTunes, then go to your Apple TV, you will see a new option pops up, called "shared movies" & "shared Tv shows"... this is all being streamed from the laptop, if you are sharing (of course, computer has to be on & iTunes has to be open).
Everything from the "My Movies" & "My TV shows" is content from the computer that is "Paired"- likely your iMac, in this case.
Syncing and streaming are two completely different things, handled very differently in iTunes & on the Apple TV.
You can only "Pair" or sync one library at a time, where you can add or "share" up to an additional five libraries.
    Hope that helps...

  • Apple TV won't play movie downloaded from iTunes

I have an Apple TV (1st gen) and recently I have downloaded a couple movies and tv show from itunes on my desktop.  I went to play them on my Apple TV and it load the movie and says "Your Apple TV is not authorized to play this".  I never had an issue before and it plays music just fine but not Movies and Shows.
Also another issue recently my Apple TV is losing connection from iTunes.  I goto my iTunes and it shows the Apple TV but isn't streaming.  Some times if I get iTunes and restart it fixes the issue.  Other times I have to unplug my Apple TV and reboot it.  This usually happens any time I let my Apple TV sit idle for more than a few hours or so.
    Any Ideas?

I was told by someone to try and purchase something directly from my Apple TV and that will help authorize my Apple TV.  So I picked something that was free and it downloaded.
Then I went back to the Movie that would not work and it played just fine.
So it seemed to work.  I will have to try it on other movies and TV shows later.

  • Movie won't sync to ipad from itunes- wrong format

I downloaded the new movie brave in HD, and it won't sync to my first generation Ipad. My settings were already set to download at 720p. It says the movie is in the wrong format? I have NEVEr had this problem

I've recenly had the same thing.  iPad 1, and as of about two weeks ago, it won't sync any TV videos downloaded from the iTunes store. I can download directly, but would really like to know why I can't sync the content across.  iTunes claims that the videos are in the wrong format. Movies seem to be ok, but TV shows won't go across.  I've made sure everything is checkmarked, and tried selecting directly, I've even wasted a day restoring the iPad and reinstalling all apps as new.  No joy...
    Any thoughts gratefully received!

  • Apps won`t sync to iPod from iTunes

My friend is trying to download Zombie Farm onto his iPod from iTunes on his PC, but it wouldn`t sync the app. He tried to download  another app and it is all apps not just the one. We have been trying to get answers for at least 30 minutes and still haven`t found anything on the subject. We don`t know what to do from here and we are getting sort of mad.

What account (Apple ID) did you originally purchase the app with?  iTunes will only sync over app's from the accounts that you have authorized iTunes for.
    See - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1420
If this app was originally purchased by a different apple ID, you must authorize iTunes to use that Apple ID.
If you purchased directly onto the iPod, check what apple ID is set on the iPod.  To do this, select the "home" button to get to the main screen, then select "settings", then "store".  The Apple ID that the iPod is set to use will be listed near the bottom

  • 30 GB Video iPOD won't sync purchased songs from iTUNES.

Previously, on the same computer, I have synced purchased songs from my Itunes library to my iPOD. Now, suddenly, an error message says that I'm not authorized to do so. I use my computer in two countries, the US and Taiwan, and wonder if this has anything to do with the problem. I've already restored the Ipod and reloaded all the songs. The purchased songs still appear in my library but will not sync.

Have you tried Deauthorizing then Authorizing your computer through the Store menu in iTunes?

  • Apple TV 2 stops playback while streaming from iTunes

ATV is wired connected to the same router as my Mac.  After my Apple TV 2 automatically updated to 6.1.1, I started having playback issues.  I store all of my movies in iTunes on my Mac Pro (10.9.2 Mavericks) and watch them on my TV using my Apple TV 2.  The ATV2 allows me to navigate to my computer, to movies, select a movie, and begin playing it.  But about 3-5 minutes into playback, it stops and goes back to the ATV home screen.  I can go back to the movie and resume playing and 3-5 minutes later, it does it again.   I can start a movie from my Mac and mirror it to my ATV and it will play no problem but I do not want to have to do that.  I have already disabled  ipv6 on my Mac (per other thread on here) but am still having the same issue.  I have restarted my modem, router, Mac, and ATV countless times with no improvement.   Ethernet settings are 'automatic'.  Any ideas of settings I should check/change?

In reply to my own question - I see that this is in fact possible because on one of my Apple TVs it does display the album artwork of the song playing from iTunes on my computer, but on my other two Apple TVs it doesn't, and I still can't figure out which setting determines this behavior.   Any help appreciated.   Thanks.

  • My iPod won't sync some songs from iTunes?

It is't on manually manage music and it used to sync every song but now it won't sync any at all?

Of course it will not sync at all.  You have it set to manually manage music.
You can manually manage ( drag and drop) OR sync, but NOT both.

  • New iPod Touch, won't sync purchased songs from iTunes library on new "authorized" laptop.

I must have missed a step.  My old windows laptop died.  Tried syncing iTunes library from old laptop to new iPod touch.  Didn't work.  Downloaded iTunes to new windows laptop.  Logged into iTunes from new laptop and Authorized new windows laptop.  Uploaded a few CDs into new laptop's iTunes library.  Old purchased songs appeared on new laptop, however only uploaded songs from CDs will sync to new iPod touch.

  • Apple Tv will not sync some movies from Itunes.

    Hello,
I have had some issues with syncing my apple tv with itunes. I have overcome the initial issue of incomplete syncs etc. I now have an issue where only some of my movies in itunes are syncing. All movies to date have been ripped from DVDs using the Handbrake application. I have always set it to Apple TV which default to MP4. Has anyone had any experience with this. Is there a setting I am missing, or a better way to rip movies than Handbrake.
I am using an Imac running Leopard and all software is up to date.
    Cheers

  • 160 GB iPod Won't Sync All Songs From iTunes

I have a 160 GB iPod and barring the normal song-skipping issues everyone seems to have, I've had no problems out of it. That is until a couple of days ago. I would attempt to listen to a song and it would skip to the next one during the middle of it. It would run sluggishly, skip nearly every song, and at times, freeze. So I decided to exercise the restore option. After that, when I tried to sync it to my library, it only synced 330 (out of 14,000 plus)songs, all of them artists starting with A. I've tried rebooting and restoring the iPod to no avail. I even did a system restore for my entire computer. Nothing works; it insists on giving me only a fraction of my music library. Any suggestions?

    *Hard Drive Diagnostics*
Take your iPod and place your right thumb on the centre SELECT button and your left on the top MENU button. Press down both thumbs for about 6 seconds until your iPod reboots. Immediately move your left thumb around to the rewind button |<< on the left and hold this down together with SELECT for a further 6 seconds. Your iPod should now switch into Diagnostic Boot mode. Press MENU for *Manual Test*, then select *IO > HardDrive > HDSMARTData* to reveal your stats. For comparison here are mine for my 2 year old 6th Generation Classic:
    Retracts: 889
    Reallocs: 12
    Pending Sectors: 0
    PowerOn Hours: 2202
    Start/Stops: 894
    Temp: Current 24c
    Temp: Min 10c
    Temp: Max 50c
Take a note of your results. When finished press *SELECT & MENU* for 6 seconds to reset the iPod again.
With modern disc drives sectors are no longer marked bad by a disc scan, if the SMART firmware detects a sector it has trouble accessing it will attempt to invisibly reallocate it to a spare area of the disc.
Note that I've only 12 remapped sectors and none pending. To help explain what the numbers mean here is an extract from the Wikipedia S.M.A.R.T. article:
    *Reallocated Sectors Count*
Count of reallocated sectors. When the hard drive finds a read/write/verification error, it marks this sector as "reallocated" and transfers data to a special reserved area (spare area). This process is also known as remapping, and "reallocated" sectors are called remaps. This is why, on modern hard disks, "bad blocks" cannot be found while testing the surface – all bad blocks are hidden in reallocated sectors. However, as the number of reallocated sectors increases, the read/write speed tends to decrease. The raw value normally represents a count of the number of bad sectors that have been found and remapped. Thus, the higher the attribute value, the more sectors the drive has had to reallocate.
    *Pending sector count*
Number of "unstable" sectors (waiting to be remapped, because of read errors). If an unstable sector is subsequently written or read successfully, this value is decreased and the sector is not remapped. Read errors on a sector will not remap the sector (since it might be readable later); instead, the drive firmware remembers that the sector needs to be remapped, and remaps it the next time it's written.
Large numbers of Reallocs or Pending Sectors would suggest your drive is failing and that you may need to repair or replace your iPod. Check your stats after another attempt to update your iPod. If the numbers increase that again points to hard drive failure. While it won't be good news at least you'll know it isn't some random software problem and you can decide what to do next.
