Apple TV won't turn off after 2.2 update

I was just wondering if anyone else has this problem after the new update.
After updating to the new 2.2 software......I am now unable to turn the device off. I used to just hold the center button down for 5-6 seconds and it would turn off. I didn't want to leave it on all the time since I only use it once or twice a week. But now.......doing the same thing has no effect on it at all. Is this happening to anyone else ? I know a lot of people just leave it on all the time, and I guess I could do that as well. Hahaha.......... seems I don't have any choice now. Is this a new feature that comes with the 2.2 software ?

Because of Genius and another feature, the ability to put the AppleTV into standby has changed. Either you can go to the main menu and press Play/Pause for 6 seconds (like you used to, but only works from main menu), or you can go into Settings where there is a new StandBy option that can be selected.

And when you held them neither the red Off slider nor the Apple logo appeared?
If not then your sleep button is broken, you will need to get it serviced.

  • Apple TV won't turn off

Yesterday I did the latest update for Apple TV and know it won't turn off.

    CowboyDon wrote:
I am at a loss for why this was done. I have never accidentally turned off my Apple TV. I use mine a lot for playing music through my stereo. After selecting my playlist, I press play and turn the TV off. I do not turn the TV back on before trying to turn the unit off. With this new 'feature', I have taken to just hitting pause and pulling the plug. The unit generates too much heat to leave in standby.
it has been done as pressing and holding play/pause whilst playing media will bring up the playlist sub-menu.
pulling the plug all the time will most likely result in your appletv having a shorter life-span, and may even trash your HDD if it doing something at the time when you pull the plug.

you should definitely get a decent UPS to protect your investment.
something like the APC Back-UPS ES 700 should suffice.

  • Help!  Ipod won't turn off after disconnecting

Okay I've had my Ipod nano for like 3 weeks. I've used it once. It worked fine when I first got it and after my battery ran out I haven't used it for about a week. When I got it back I hooked it up to my computer and updated the stuff on it as well as let it charge. After is says to safely disconnect, I disconnect it but it automatically turns off and won't turn back on. I've tried resetting it and nothing works. I thought the battery was dead but I've left it plugged in (not only USB on my computer but also tried an outlet) and it never completely charged. I've even left it plugged in overnight (well over the 4 hours it's supposed to charge). I have no idea what to do (It also took like at least a full day to completely charge the first time I've had it)

  • Golf Radio won't turn off after reinstalling CK-10...

For some time I've been using my CK-100 but without a switched 12v supply which means that the unit remained on after turning off the ignition but otherwise with no problems.  I've recently bought a new loom and fed the switched 12v from the cig lighter so the CK-100 switches off/on and with the radio being fed from the big multipin plug rather than the speaker outlet with no problems but the radio often doesn't switch off when I remove the key.  During normal operation there is no indication that there might be a loose connection and I have checked them all.  The only thing I can think of is that I also updated the software to v4.5 so I'm wondering if that is causing any problems, does it think that there is a call outstanding although it doesn't mute the radio.
    Any help appreciated
    Phil

    Sorry about the delay, Alan.
It's a possibility, although I'm used to seeing it more with older Symantec security suites rather than just the Antivirus. (For example, NIS 2005.)
The mechanism is two-part. The first part is that if there's an issue with iTunes rules in the firewall, sometimes the iTunes.exe process doesn't shut down after you "close" iTunes. Sometimes it can't even be ended in Task manager.
The second part is that security suites often try to have a component being the last item running in memory before the PC shuts down (because some malware attacks during the shut down procedure. Because the iTunes.exe can't be stopped, it tries to "outlast" that process ... and you get spectacularly slow shutdowns on the PC.
... So we'd better check to see if something like that is afoot ...
Restart the PC (power off?) And launch iTunes. Quit iTunes. Bring up your Task manager. Go to the processes tab. Click the "Image name" header to sort the processes alphabetically.
Is iTunes.exe still running even though iTunes has supposedly been shut down?

  • Display won't turn off after locking.

My 701 running on belle fp1 doesn't turn off the display after locking the phone?
It's just keeps the display always on.
Restarting solves the problem but this is happening again and again.
    Please solve this Nokia.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    No,
I noticed that popclock at the top left yesterday when I pressed the menu key after lock.
Actually I have lot of apps installed on the memory card like games and apps.
After firmware reinstall at Nokia care, I inserted back my memory card and copied all mass memory backup from my pc.
After stating the phone after inserting memory card, phone started to display installing without cancel button and I got back almost all of the apps.
Maybe this is caused the popclock or Nokia bubbles to show and turn the display always on.
Today I had no problem at all.

  • Iphone won't turn on after a failed update

i have a brand new 5s its not even a year old, in a life proof case so its as good as new!
i had installed the iOS 8.01 and it was working fine, tonight i decided to install 8.02 and my phone is completely unresponsive
The upgrade failed to install and now my iPhone keeps turning off and back on..
but only to the APPLE screen and then it goes bright blue for a quick second and turns off completely.
and then starts doing that over and over again!
Naturally i thought id try hooking it up to my Mac but iTunes can't even detect my phone since its not completely ON...
    PLEASE HELP

    Hi val0891,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
To help resolve this issue I'd like you to please put your device into recovery mode, and restore it using iTunes.  After restoring, you can then restore from your backup.

  • Ipad 3 won't turn on after ios 6 update

    Hi everyone,
I'm at a loss!  My Ipad 3 was working fine, and while fully charged I updated to ios 6.  Everything worked fine and I was thrilled.  While at work, I turned the Ipad off, and now it won't turn back on.  I've tried resetting, I've tried holding down the power and home buttons (repeatedly, and for long time periods), and I've tried to restore it using my itunes but my computer now doesn't recognize the device when I plug in the USB. but I never see any reaction by the device. No icons on the screen, no apple logo, no nothing... I updated itunes, still the same problem.  So, for the life of me, this fully charged relatively new working fine 64G Gen 3 Ipad just won't turn on.   Any additional ideas before I dare to go in the crowded apple store for assistance?
    Thanks, Hollie

    Try this...
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)
    Release the Buttons...

If no joy... Try a Restore...
1: Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
2: If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane.
3: If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try using the steps in this article to force the device into recovery mode.

  • IPhone 4 bricked and won't turn on after 4.1 update!

    Hey guys
    Hoping someone has any tips.
Last night I update from 4.02 to 4.1. The update installed just fine. As soon as I unplugged my phone from the computer, the screen went black, as if it was turned off.
Nothing I have done turns it back on. Neither the power or the Home buttons do anything. I've tried doing a hard reset and nothing. I even held the buttons for over a minute.
So I tried connecting it to the wall charger as well as back on the computer. It still doesn't turn on at all.
Do I just need to get it replaced?

Ok, so I went to try that and run the program it said I needed .Net Framework 4.0 installed, so I was on my way to update that so I could try to run the program.
Anyway, before I did that, a coworker comes by and I show her that my phone is dead. I unplug it from my computer (it's not charging or anything) and I start pressing the power button rapidly to show her it's dead. All of a sudden the screen turns on and shows me that the battery is drained and needs to be recharged. I quickly connect my phone back to the computer and it begins charging. After a few minutes the Apple logo appear and it is detected on my computer! It is currently charging and is seen in iTunes. All is well again.
What's weird is that I know for a FACT that the battery was not dead when the update was done. In fact the phone showed FULL battery right before I unplugged it the first time.
I don't know if it was a combination of the steps above or what, but whatever it was, I appreciate everyone's input.

  • MacBook (Mid 2009) won't turn on after installing software updates.

My macbook white (mid 2009) won't turn on. I was going to install mountain lion so I performed a software update. I click install and reboot. It installed within a few minutes, but when it was rebooting the apple logo and the buffering sign popped up, and that went on over night. So I held down the power button to turn it off. It did the same thing, what should I do?

Not the right time to update and go to sleep. What updates? How much free space was on the hard drive?
Try inserting the OS installer disk in the optical drive and powering up holding down the c key.

  • My MacBook Pro won't turn on after the new update.

I left my MacBook Pro out and open for it to update and install the new software. When it finished, I connected my iPhone 5s with the laptop via the USB cable. And it completely shut down. And it won't turn on, restart, nor charge.

    Did you try this?
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Iphone 5 won't turn on after 8.3 update

I just updated to the 8.3 and now my phone won't turn on. I've tried holding the buttons down and nothing. I don't want to do a factory restart!!! So what are my options now?

    Hello PyroTheRedBean,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • My Imac (OS X 10.7.4) doesn't turn off after last software update.

The problem is this: when I try to turn off my IMac, the desktop disappears and the display becomes white, without anything else. It may stay in this way for several hours, maybe days.
I only can turn it off by pushing the on/off button for ten seconds.
The start up is also very slow.
    Any suggestions?

Try an SMC Reset and a PRAM Reset:
    SMC Reset
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and disconnect attached devices.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
    Reset PRAM
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P and R.
You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
