Apple tv wont connect to my library

My Apple TV won't connect to my itunes library.  I've done just about every trouble shooting tip listed.

Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds, or resetting it using the reset option under general. You should also try restarting your router.

my apple tv wont connect to i tunes, but it will connect to netflix

Youtube is a different service and server.
    Check the network
What is the current connection, use speedtest.net
    If on wifi try ethernet
Make sure router is up to date. DNS should be set to automatic (settings - general - network)
Go to istumbler (Mac) or netstumbler (PC) to get a report of the network, look for signal strength and noise.

  • Apple TV Cannot Connect To This Library Problem

Hope someone can help... I had AppleTV and iTunes working just fine for months streaming from my PC to the AppleTV via a wireless connection.
I am able to see the AppleTV icon in iTunes and my AppleTV shows my iTunes library by name just fine... as it always did... even if I restart AppleTV and remove the apple tv connection from itunes, they always seem to be able to "find" each other requiring me to enter that 6 (or 5?) digit passcode.
So, I guess, I am saying that from at least an initial handshake between my AppleTV and my PC running iTunes, I think they talk just fine.
HOWEVER, the problem is every time I try to CLICK on my streaming library, for instance, I go to Movies -> Shared Videos, I get a constant spinning "Loading library" followed by a:
"Apple TV Cannot Connect to This Library" followed by a "Check your network configuration and connection".
So I am confused how the initial handshake can work, that they can see each other, but the loading of the library just dies?
I am running, as of today, the last software updates for both iTunes and AppleTV.
What caused it to break? My assumption is one (or both) of the following:
1.) I upgraded, at the same time, both the Apple TV and iTunes (for PC) at the same time.
2.) I upgraded my wireless router to the D-Link DIR-665.
Am I missing some ports that need to opened on the router?

I have the same issue, and it sounds like others may have similar. What's weird is I watched a streamed video on the 22nd with no issues with 10.5.5, iTunes 8.0.1, and AppleTV 2.1. I went to watch something on Monday night and had the same issue you did. I checked my Software Update.log and these were the only updates (changes) to my MBP since I had it working on the 22nd:
    2008-10-27 17:32:45 -0400: Installed "Migration and DVD ⁄ CD Sharing Update" (1.1)
    2008-10-27 17:32:51 -0400: Installed "AirPort Extreme Update 2008-004" (1.0)
    2008-10-27 17:33:58 -0400: Installed "iPhoto Update" (7.1.5)
I did installed Boxee on Friday, but in troubleshooting this week I factory defaulted my AppleTV to 1.0, then did an upgrade to 2.2 and have the same issue.
I troubleshoot technology for a living, and this makes no sense to me--you can always find something that changed to cause and issue, and I can't find anything.
One more note, I did a sniffer (Wireshark) capture, and it reported malformed packets from the AppleTV to my MBP...now I accidentally deleted the capture and didn't dig further. Wireshark sometimes misrepresents normal things as issues. I will try and re-do the capture and see if I can did deeper.
    Apple please fix this!

  • Apple tv wont connect to wireless

Hi bought an apple tv 6th may this year. Followed all instructions etc and worked perfectly.. Could access all packages etc, picked up from all our devices, iphones, ipad and imac.. Now 4 weeks later and wont connect to wireless at all. Also cant be found on any of our devices. Have tried to reset, restore factory settings etc but nothing. Its like the thing doesn't exist.. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks

I had the same problem. I tried the Express Lane and they couldn't help, so they sent me to the Apple Store. The Genius Bar checked it out and gave me a new Apple TV. Now it works. The one issue with setting up again was that I had to manually turn on sharing on the Apple TV (Settings/Computer).

  • My apple tv wont connect to my computer or itunes account although all the correct info has been applied

i have recently moved house and changed internet provider. i have had trouble getting my imac to stay connected to the wifi but this problem has now been solved after a lot of tech support from apple. however my apple tv still wont talk to my computer and itunes account. when i hit the computer icon on apple tv it comes up with "could not connect to J.... B..... library" "make sure the computer is on the same network as your apple tv, the itunes version is up to date, and itunes is running" all of this is correct and i have tried resetting, restoring, reloading, deleting the account and adding again, restarting the modem and all of the same on the imac. still cant get it to work.

Maybe it is putting the hard drive to sleep and not waking for network access.

  • My apple TV2 wont connect to the internet?

I have my apple tv connected via Ethernet cable to a CISCO hub which is connected to the internet. My laptop is connected to the hub and the internet works great. But the apple TV is running really SLOW, it cant even access netflix and when i tried to play a TV show on I tunes it said it would take 3 hours. I tried switching Ethernet cords and it still wont work. does anyone know what the problem could be? I'm in my college dorm and there's only 1 Ethernet port which is why I have to use a hub.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Many colleges and university have restrictions on their Internet service, contact your administrator to ask if the network provided will support the Apple TV.

  • Remote app wont connect to my library

On my ipad, i have installed app called "remote". it is correctly set up, according to Apple support tech, but i can't get it to work. It won't connect to my itunes library on my Sony laptop (win7). Get message that it cannot connect, and to check my network settings. Can't find anything wrong with network. i can connect to internet just fine using the safari browser. I am definitely on the network. Have tried disabling the firewall, no luck. Have reset router, and modem: no luck.

Please ensure that home sharing is enabled on your iTunes PC/Mac and your Apple TV if you have one.  To do this simply click on the "Advanced" menu on the top menu bar in iTunes, then select "Turn on home sharing"

  • Apple apps wont connect to internet

A couple of days ago I found that Safari would no longer connect to the internet. Luckily I had a backup browser that i could use in the meantime. I use Camino now because it works and Safari doesn't. I also found that iTunes cannot connect to the iTunes store. I checked software update and that couldn't connect either...The rest of the macs in the house all connect to the wireless G network just fine. I have read forums and still cant find an answer to this issue. Right now I am downloading the 10.4.10 Intel COMBO update to see if this will help. I have ran an archive and install with no results. The funny thing is, all the apple apps work when i am connected directly to my router.

Not if you chose to preserve network settings and user accounts. You've reduced the possibility that it's a problem within separate user accounts, since the new user also has this problem. So perhaps it's in the network settings (corrupted or set incorrectly somehow). Network settings are set uniformly across all accounts; that would make sense. However, I don't know what network settings will allow Camino to work, but not Safari and iTunes.
