Apple TV2 and WEP Encryption

Apple TV, won't connect to my Linksys WRT350N router when WEP enabled. Will connect when encryption off. Was working for 8 months with no issue prior to 6 days ago.

Thanks. I followed a suggestion to hold down menu and down on the apple tv2 remote for 6 seconds and the problem seems resolved.

i don't have any experience with DLNA TV's but i recently moved my iTunes library to a NAS. streaming content to airport express remote speakers and TV2 works great. however, i have all my gear hardwired to my time capsule (except the airport express) so i'm not sure how well streaming e.g. HD movies to TV over wifi works.

The Apple TV is in the Harmony database. I'm using a Harmony 670 to play music through mine, as I write this. I created an Activity that includes the Apple TV, my receiver and my TV. I don't remember what category of device the Apple TV is listed under. Browse around the categories on the Harmony software or the web site and you'll probably find it eventually.

Thank you so, so much for this answer. I did go into my Apple ID account through iTunes store and associated my devices to my Apple ID account. I did this by working on my computers (a mac mini and a mac air) and my two devices (iPhone and iPad). Thus there is a statemente saying "4 devices are associated with this apple ID and can download your purchases from iTunes in the iCloud". So whenever I use them to purchase anything, iCloud knows it is me through my devices so I do not get no e-mail warming me my account might be being used by a stranger.
So, how do I associate my apple Tv2 to my apple ID account? I went to its settings and could not find any way of doing it. Can you continue helpling me? Please.

Ipad makes network/home sharing available for Apple TV2 and iphone

I've always had issues using home sharing on my Apple TV2; it would often tell me i needed to turn on home sharing on my desktop even though it was on. Ususally restting the router and restarting iTunes would resolve the issue. I would have to do this everytime i tried to play something on my Apple TV2 from my desktop. THen i got an iPad 1 and it could find the shared folder instantly, when it would find it, it would all of a sudden make the Apple TV2 find my desktop (sometimes the Appl TV2 would hang there for 15 minutes searching for the desktop, i would go to videos on the iPad, and then "bang" the Apple TV would work). I just got an iphone 3gs and upgraded to iOS 6 (had the following issue with iOS 5, too) and when i go to the video app it is blank and says there are no videos on my iphone with a button for the store at the bottom. One time i hit the header reading "Videos" at the top and all of a sudden it listed which libraries i wanted to access, iPhone or Shared. Couldn't get that to happen again until just now i started the trusty old iPad and pointed it to the shared folder and all of a sudden my iPhone showed me the shared location again. Is there a way to access the home sharing network consistently without having to bot up the iPad everytime, especially on tyhe iPhone where there isnt a real location for doing this as far a I can tell. Everyone always refers to the old "iPod" app before they switched it to "Music" and would say you go to "More" and selected "Shared" but those options arent avaiable anymore. Thanks.

Follow up: It appears to have been caused by the Bose system. We have multiple areas that can be controlled by the Bose console. Playing another area (outdoor speakers) via one source (satellite) was interfering with playing the Apple TV in the den on the television. Apparently.

Apple tv2 and external hard drive

I have old videobands that I'm going to put it on an external hard drive, but how can I watch it then on the apple tv? Do I have to buy an time capsule to let ithe external haddrive synchronisize with the apple tv2. I want also to see my macbook air screen on my tv (wireless).
And my last question is how to work with ipad safari on a flashplayer site?

You, as of yet, can not stream your Mac to your ATV2. You can send audio and video to it if it's in iTunes or QuickTime 10.
No to the external drive, TimeCapsule options. Your external drive with the videos would need to be part of your iTunes library.

Hacked and wep encrypted - help!

Hi, I just moved in with my friend who used to have no problem with his wireless, but now when I try to get on wirelessly, the name is changed and it has a wep key on it - which my friend did not put in place. His network was wide open, and someone hacked it and locked us out. What can we do?

Your WEP encryption will certainly prevent anyone from accidently logging into your wireless network. However, if you really want your data and network protected from intentional intrusions, you should be using WPA2, or at least WPA.
The FBI has demonstrated that WEP can be cracked in just a few minutes using software tools that are readily available over the Internet. Even a long random character password will not protect you with WEP. You should be using WPA or preferably WPA2 encryption.
Here are some guidelines for setting up wireless security:
To set up wireless security, you must use a computer that is wired to the router.
Where to find the router settings: The router's login password is usually on one of the "Administration" pages. The other settings are all found in the "Wireless" section of the router's setup pages, located at 192.168.1.1
First, give your router a unique SSID. Don't use "linksys".
Make sure "SSID Broadcast" is set to "enabled".
Next, leave the router at its default settings (except for the unique SSID), and then use your pc to connect wirelessly to the router. Test your wireless Internet connection and make sure it is working correctly. You must have a properly working wireless connection before setting up wireless security.
To implement wireless security, you need to do one step at a time, then verify that you can still connect your wireless computer to the router.
Next, encrypt your wireless system using the highest level of encryption that all of your wireless devices will support. Common encryption methods are:
WEP - poor (see note above)
WPA (sometimes called PSK, or WPA with TKIP) - good
WPA2 (sometimes called PSK2, or WPA with AES) - best
WPA and WPA2 sometimes come in versions of "personal" and "enterprise". Most home users should use "personal". Also, if you have a choice between AES and TKIP, and your wireless equipment is capable of both, choose AES. With any encryption method, you will need to supply a key (sometimes called a "password" ).
The wireless devices (computers, printers, etc.) that you have will need to be set up with the SSID, encryption method, and key that matches what you entered in the router.
Retest your system and verify that your wireless Internet connection is still working correctly.
And don't forget to give your router a new login password.
Picking Passwords (keys): You should never use a dictionary word as a password. If you use a dictionary word as a password, even WPA2 can be cracked in a few minutes. When you pick your login password and encryption key (or password or passphrase) you should use a random combination of capital letters, small letters, and numbers, but no spaces. A login password, should be 12 characters or more. WPA and WPA2 passwords should be at least 24 characters. Note: Your key, password, or passphrase must not have any spaces in it.
Most home users should have their routers set so that "remote management" of the router is disabled. If you must have this option enabled, then your login password must be increased to a minumum of 24 random characters.
One additional issue is that Windows XP requires a patch to run WPA2. Go to Microsoft Knowledge base, article ID=893357 and it will direct you to the patch.
Sadly, the patch is not part of the automatic Windows XP updates, so lots of people are missing the patch.

Apple TV2 and Denon ARV-1911

I would like to have step-by-step instructions on how to set up the ATV2 with the Denon ARV-1911 receiver. The TV is a Samsung 6500. I have been able to use it for Netfix. Can stream photos from my computer. But not able to stream music. Shows it is playing, but no sound. Thanks.

Apple TV2 and a Mini

I have both an Apple TV and a Mac Mini... and on HDTV that I use for a monitor. What benefits are there to keeping both of them hooked up as opposed to just using the Mini? Is there any way to use the two of them in conjunction with each other so that between them, they only use a single HDMI connection to the television? Am I missing some obvious way that the two work together that makes it worth keeping them both?

They are complementary - AppleTV will do things the Mini can't do as simply whilst the Mini will do things AppleTV can't do at all.
They each need an HDMI socket (unless you do not intend to veiw the Mini's display and use it as a server).
What are you trying to use them for?

Apple devices and WEP

In advance, a disclaimer: Please don't lecture me about how we shouldn't be using WEP...I'm fully aware how just how bad WEP is from a network security standpoint. Unfortunately, I'm not in a position to change it at the moment.
I wasn't really sure where to post this, as it's not specific to any one device and could very well be a software problem. That being said: why is it that NONE of the Apple devices I've used have ever worked correctly on the WEP network here? Where I work, we've got all Cisco equipment, but unfortunately, we're still on WEP. We've got hundreds of Windows devices that operate just fine with it.
On the other hand, on every Mac portable device I've had since I started working here 7 years ago, it's been an issue. I enter all the information correctly when I try to add the network as an Airport profile, and one of two things happens:
1. It prompts me for the password over and over.
or
2. It takes the information like everything is ok, but then it doesn't connect (no "bars")
Every once in a while I will get a device to connect and work, but it's usually only temporary...it'll just stop working all of a sudden. It doesn't have to do with proximity to the access points; believe me, I checked. I'm positive I'm entering everything correctly, as I actually work for the IT Department here. I've had numerous portables through the years including various MacBook/PowerBook Pros, iMacs, and now an iPad which also doesn't want to work on our WEP network. We have four buildings here, which are technically four separate networks, all configured with the same type of access points, and Apple devices don't connect properly in any of them. Being that we have plenty of Windows-based devices, as well as Android portable devices that work on our WEP network, it would appear that the problem is isolated to Apple.
Is anyone else here still stuck using WEP (perhaps at your workplace), and has anyone else had similar problems to what I'm having here? What did you do to resolve them? I'm dying to get my iPad on the wireless here, but it just won't cooperate.

WEP password may not work for all computers in a multiplatform environment.
For a 40 bit WEP network, always choose a 5-character password.
For a 128 bit WEP network, always choose a 13-character password.
For example, Nintendo DS supports only WEP so when I wanted to use it, I defined a 13 character WEP password and it worked on the DS, on my Macs and on the Nokia cellphone.

HT1595 Help w/Apple TV2 and home network--going crazy!

This is maddening. i have Apple TV 2nd Gen and it CONSTANTLY does this: my network appears, shows strong signal, but it is not connected to internet. OVER and OVER again. Please help!
Other facts--we have a Bose Surround Sound system that has all compenents plugged into it. I can see my network when I hit network, but if I go to configure WiFi, it has to search, then shows mine (sometimes) and I have to select it, type in u/n and password, and then it says "cannot connect to server". meanwhile, my macbook, ipad, pc, etc are all happily connected to my WiFi. And again, back to network and it shows my home net with strong signal. This is the most irritating, irrational maddening process and I can't seem to figure it out!!!! Can't see movies, can't test network because can't connect to iTunes, can't even see my home sharing to show pictures from my macbook. ARGH.
I have tried restarting my Apple TV, restarting my wireless router, typing in my credentials, trying to run test network (since it shows it's connected but isn't), all to no avail. My partner wants me to pitch it out the window. I want to love it but it's making me crazy.
Can anyone help me??

Finally Sweden Apple released Apple TV2 and movies.

But, the movies didnot include subtitles. Even if we are in dvd region 2. That was dissapointing.
Further Appletv2 worked for 15 minutes.
I have iMac with updated Lion, an updated itune.
Appletv updated.

Found the streaming shut off depedent on time capsule. Had to enter port 123 at shsring on time capsule.

After having audio background noise so loud you cannot hear the audio on Apple TV using iTunes movies and Netflix television programs, but no noise problem on Netflix movies or on Apple TV iTunes movie previews, Apple Care solved the problem by telling me to go to "settings" in the menu, select "audio and video", then select "dolby". Turn "dolby" to off. For me, this not only solved all noise problems, but also enabled the closed captioning on the Netflix movies, which were not showing before!!! You must be sure closed captioning is enabled in the "settings" section in the Apple TV menu, and the movie must be closed captioned (noted on the preview page for all movies, etc.) - for ITunes movies or Netflix. Netflix is closed captioned just by turning off the dolby on the Apple TV. Netflix doesn't seem to know this solution. Apple Care is finding that the dolby fix also seems to fix a "no audio" problem.

Apple TV2 and iTunes Library

Hi. I have just connected my iTV and when I try to shuffle songs from my iTunes Library album, a message appears stating there is no content. I can see the song titles but they are greyed out. I can play each song individually but this is a hassle having to keep going back to start the next song. I copied a CD yesterday that I bought the other day and those songs can be shuffled.

Check in iTunes that the skip when shuffling option is not checked on those tunes that won't play.

my apple tv 2 aluminum has stopped working for it....please help i dont have an ipod touch to use for the remote but i do have a galaxy nexus, is there an app for droid users in the same way itunes users have?

You might also try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.

Arrgh!! Apple TV2 and new iMac

I have a new iMac - it's lovely but my ATV2 just won't work any more. When I go into "computers" it just can't see it, although youtube etc works just fibe.
I've restarted everything and I did manage to get it working briefly - but why won't it 'just work'?

anyhoo, for the iMac and TV to play nicely, you need to set up home sharing on both devices. if you've done that, verify you did so correctly by following the instructions in the following support article:
