Apple TV2. black screen

I have a magnavox 42"tv. When I plug in Apple TV2 it shows Apple home screen and in 10 sec. the screen goes black. Any ideas?

Welcome to the Apple Community.
Check that the HDMI cable is correctly seated at both ends.
Try disconnecting the cable and connecting it again.
Try another HDMI cable.
Make sure your TV supports 720p

Ipad 2 ios 5.0.1 stuck at apple logo black screen, subsequently cannot restore, face error 16XX in itunes.

i have encountered this problem even after 10 hours of troubleshooting various methods, when i turned off my ipad and when turning it back on, it would just hang during the white apple logo on the black screen and remain there with no sign of activity till i hold the lock + home button till it shuts down.
after several attempts, i tried to put it into recovery and restore firmware, it would get stuck at stage "preparing ipad for restore" after i click on restore ipad.
i have attempted:
dfu and restore, 1600 error
recovery and restore, 21 error
my ipad 2 is wi-fi only model running ios 5.0.1.
i can't think of anything else other than sending it to applecare. my ipad 2 was recently purchased in jan this year. any input would be greatly welcomed!

Try holding down the option/alt key during a restart and see if you can see/select your boot drive there.

it could be a faulty HDMI cable, or faulty connection with TV.

I bought an ipad mini from John Lewis in February. On Saturday the ipad suddenly stopped working. I tried charging it but all it done was go to the start up apple page (black screen with white apple) then shut down and constantly repeat this process.

I took it back to John Lewis today to get fixed as its still under warranty. Because there was scratches on the back of it.... Which is hard to avoid with the slate back!!! I got told apple will probably not fix it as it looks as if I've done it! I couldn't believe it!! If I honestly dropped it that bad to have caused a technical fault inside I would of smashed the screen as the same time!! Absolutely ridiculous as I know it isn't through any fault of my own.

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

Apple TV Black Screen Unless I Reset

Hi,
I've been using a Gen2 apple tv for years and got a Gen3 for my parents for Christmas. I set it up on their TV and everything worked fine. After turning it off so I could show my parents how to use it, the light lit up on the front (stayed lit) and there was nothing on the screen. Unplugging and plugging it in fixed this issue, but it still persists whenever it's turned off or is left idle for a long period of time so it shuts down automatically. I'm not sure what's causing this, so any suggestions would be helpful.

SImilar situation here with my new Apple TV Gen 3. While it is working perfectly in streaming movies, iTunes, etc., the unit doesn't stay ON when it's idle. I've had to unplug and replug the power cord to get the status light to come back on. Then everything is fine. Seems like a little problem, but it's not exactly an elegant way to access this cutting edge technology. I spoke with an Apple support rep who suggested switching HDMI inputs on my tv (there are three that are unused). I've tried them all, but the same thing happens—after about an hour of not using the Apple TV box, the status light goes off and it is undiscoverable on the assigned HDMI input screen, until I unplug and replug the power.

cannot start Apple TV. Have tried different HDMI cables, and different HDMI inputs. Also, tried to configure TV channel as well. No success. Cable TV, Blue-Ray home theater, everything works but apple TV. My TV is: Philips flat HDTV 42PFL7432D 42'' LCD integrated digital with Perfect Pixel HD Engine and Ambilight 2 channel
Is my TV suitable??

After Apple service black screen, white words

My MBP was recently in the Apple service center for work and returned in perfect condition... except that I am now seeing some form of diagnosis feature at power on and power down. I believe something was not "switched off" after they got done doing the magic they do in the Apple offices. What I am seeing is the actual line by line boot-up and line by line power-down.
Is there a way I can turn this feature off? Just a little annoying, is all.

You might try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for a 30 seconds. If that doesn't help try using another HDMI cable.

But now, there is a processing circle on top of the logo, but the circle spins once, and stops at about halfway to the bottom. It just stays there, and about every half to one hour it becomes a white screen and starts all over again. (not the loading bar part, just the circle). okay so just as i was typing this the problem resolved itself, but when i went to charge my ipod i noticed ot stayed on the black screen with the apple for a good 10 minutes, so i pressed buttons furiously (!!) and the screen went white and then back on to the screen with apple again. this contiinued for a good 4 tries then eventually went on to my lock screen (which is the very beautiful dom howard not that you know who that is and i dont even know any of you so i dont know why im typing all of this out but i really enjoy typing it's an incredibly exciting past time of mine but unfortunately i havent used capital letters) just wondering if it will happen again
