i just bought a Denon AVR-x2000 reciever, pluged my Philips 46plf7007 tv to it, and connected my Apple tv gen 2, to the reciever with HDMI.
it just says "Not supported videoformat"
i rebooted it twice, the second time it worked 80% for a couple of hours (no airplay from phone or ipad, only from mac air)  but then i tried opening netflix an it turned blackscreen and popped up with the "not Supported Videoformat" sign.
anybody got a clue?

  • Apple TV and Denon Reciever

I am interested in getting the new Apple TV. I have a Denon receiver with an HDMI port. Is it simple enough as plugging the Apple TV into the HDMI port? Will the receiver and the TV figure out it is like a DVD player, or a Cable box, or do you have to connect it directly to the TV? Thanks!

You can connect it to the input HDMI of your denon receiver, it will work like a playstation 3, dvd player, or a cable box.
If your denon receiver has more than 1 HDMI input you can connect your DVD or cable box as well.

  • Apple TV2 and Denon ARV-1911

I would like to have step-by-step instructions on how to set up the ATV2 with the Denon ARV-1911 receiver. The TV is a Samsung 6500. I have been able to use it for Netfix. Can stream photos from my computer. But not able to stream music. Shows it is playing, but no sound. Thanks.

  • Apple TV2 connectivity.

I have connected my ATV2 via hdmi through Pioneer VSX-920. I can find my itunes shared library, Internet radio, MobileMe BUT, no You Tube, iTunes store, Flickr etc. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
I too have issues with connectivity.  My AppleTV2 is hooked up to my server that has all the video content with good wifi signal.
Lately, seems the first time every day I have to relaunch my iTunes on my server so that streaming from my server will work.  I can see the server library, I can see some of the movie/show covers on the top of the main menu, but as soon as I click on the library sub menu like Movies or TV shows, I get the spinning circle saying it's trying to connect to the server library, what seems like forever.  Thats when I have to just relaunch the iTunes on the server (all the way downstairs).
This is problemactic when I am out of town and my wife and kids are trying to do this.
    Help.

  • Apple TV2 slow to play

I hate to add to this chorus of compaints regarding the Apple TV2, but I too just purchased an Apple TV2 for Christmas.  All my movies are already loaded on my Mac Pro and exist in iTunes.  It is not a problem with downloading or streaming from Apple.  They play fine on the MacPro.  The regular definition movies play almost instantly on my Apple TV2.
The Problem is that I cannot get it to play an HD movie.  I purchased my first HD movie from the iTunes store last night.  It downloaded from the iTunes store to my Mac Pro  in approximately 20 minutes along with what appears as a regular definition version of the movie and "extras".  I have been watching over 20 minutes of spinning beachballs waiting for it to begin playing on the Apple TV2.  The Airport Utility says that Apple TV2 connection to my Airport Extreme is "Excellent" with a data rate of 65 MB/s, an RSSI (whatever that is) of -49, and a Mode of 802.11 b/g/n
Can anyone help?  Otherwise this device is useless for me to watch HD video.  My Mac Pro is running the latest version of Snow Leapord (10.6.8) and all other software is up to date with the latest version.
Is there a reset that I need to push?  Anything?

Just got off the phone with Apple Support.  There procedure was the following:
    1.  Go to the Apple TV, select settings, general and scroll down to reset.
    2.  Select reset and then select reset all
Apple TV will go through a restart after the reset and you will have to select your network then log in with your network or Airport Express password.  You will then have to turn on home sharing and It will then ask you for your Apple ID for the iTunes store and then the password.  At this point you may not see your library, because the Apple TV wants you to turn on home sharing on your home computer that is hosting the movie library.  Turn off home sharing on that computer, restart iTunes and turn on home sharing again.  After this is done you should be able to see you library listed under the computer.
After going through these steps, when I select an HD movie from my iTunes library the movie comes up after about a 5 second delay.
Hope this helps!  I am back up for business.

  • Apple TV2 is not working property

    Hi Guys.
I have just two weeks with my apple TV 2 and it drives me crazy.
I have my apple TV2 connected via wi-fi with a Base Station Apple Router. When I'm trying to watch some movies (HD) it worked perfect but in many cases it doesn't, and some, times gives me an error that suggest that I have to try to connect to my Mac later.
I made all the updates: for my Itunes, my Mac, the Base Station and the Apple TV2. Other thing that I tried was connect my Apple TV directly to my Base Station and nothing.
Can anybody tell me what to do? Is there a specific configuration that could be recommended for de Base Station and de AppTV2?
    Regards,

Ok... this is the answer for the moment!!!
Everyone has the same problem as I do. The only way I found to solve it was to restart my "Base Station" router and then remake the wireless router connection with the Apple TV 2.
It's a shame, but in my case it worked. I guess that would be the procedure from de moment until APPLE make some important update to the software of the APPLE tv.

  • How do I connect Apple TV2 to an older TV?

    Hi Apple Community
I just bought 2 Apple TV2s, one for my family room and one for my bedroom. My family room TV is a late generation Sony WEGA (Trinitron/CRT) with a YPbPr (RGB RCA) port in the back of it. I knew that AppleTV2 did not have a component video connection, so I bought a cheap HDMI to component signal converter to connect to the YPbPr port.
Well, when i connected everything up all I get are crazy lines on the screen (clearly there is a signal translation issue). In theory everything should have worked. I am sure this issue has come up for others in the community - is there an HDMI converter box that you would recommend that will work in this situation? I looked online and there seem to be half a dozen candidates, but I'd like to get an opinion from this forum. Any thoughts?
    Dude

I'm not really willing to recommend any converters since most of them will run into an issue with HDCP which is included in iTunes content purchased and rented from the iTMS since component doesn't support HDCP. Any conversion device that circumvents such copy protection cannot be discussed in these forums under it's terms of Use.
I have one thought about the converter you have purchased, check that your TV is YPbPr and not YCbCr.

  • Problem connecting Apple TV2 to projector when passing through Sony Sound Bar

I'm having problems getting my Apple TV2 to work now that I'm passing it through my new Sony HT-CT150 Sound Bar to my Epson Megaplex Projector MG-850 (720p) Projector. I keep getting a "Not Supported" error on my projector - as opposed to a "No Signal" error which is what happens if I was to unplug the Apple TV.
My HDMI cables are all new and latest specs. I can connect the Apple TV directly to projector with either cable and it works fine. I have a 6 ft HDMI connecting the Apple TV to one of the Sony Sound Bar's 3 HDMI inputs and then a 40 ft. HDMI running from the sound bar's HDMI out to the projector's single HDMI input. Oddly, if I reverse the cables, it seems to work. Same two cables - just switching which one is connected to the Apple TV and which is connected to the projector. (I need the length to get to where my projector is positioned. Though I might be able to get by with a 30 ft. cable if length might be the issue.)
Anyway I think it must have something to do with the HDMI handshake or the lenth of the cables but don't know enough about it and have no idea why switching which cable comes first would fix the problem.

Ok,  I will ask the question in another way... My apple tv has one hdmi, and it goes to my hd projecter.. But projecter has no speakers, and as a result I've no sound at the moment. I am looking for a clear direction to go in, to solve lack the of any sound.. My only option seems to be, using the optical out from the apple tv.. I don't have  any equipment with this conecter. And I've never used optical before..   If i buy an, optical to twin phono converter and then I can plug into a large powered speaker I've got in my living room. And I will have big sound easily..?? Do I have any other reasonable options for optical enabled speakers, or AirPlay speakers or something simple I'm not aware of that will give me sound easily.. I don't want a messy 5:1 system, my house is very tidy, and I want to keep it that way. .  Only having this optical out is frustrating, and I need to get my head round the options I have.   Anyone understand from experience how to use the optical apple tv out.  Also, not  using anything but apple tv, no dvds, or tv , just apple tv and my ipad.. Is very quiet in my home right now though.  Ric

  • Can I make apple tv2 work on an HDTV with component connections using an HDMI to component converter?

I bought an apple tv2 and hooked it up through an HDMI to component converter then to my HDTV as it does not have an HDMI connection. When I turned it on, I got the start up screen x3. Three of the start up screen all across the display. Is there any way to make it work? Thanks

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
I'd strat by restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for a 30 seconds. It may however be the converter, compliant converters won't let you watch HDCP protected content and probably won't support scaling either.

  • TS4479 Apple TV2 cannot connect to Netflix .. message on tv screen always say "Netflix currently unavailable."

Apple TV2 cannot connect to Netflix .. message on tv screen always say "Netflix currently unavailable.  Please try again later."   I have tried both wifi and ethernet connection but to no avail.  ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED.

    ..hi, Diesel.
..after resetting, and for the first time ever, ATV2 is able to access Netflix and that I was able to log in for the first time too!  It stayed on processing for the longest time getting in into Netflix.  However, the same message "Netflix is currently unavailable.  Try again later."  had reappeared on tv screen after.  Resetted and restarted ATV2 again but the same message had reappeared.

  • Lost connection to itunes using Apple TV2

My issue is that my Apple TV2 often loses it's connection to my iTunes on the iMac while using homesharing. I can be watching something from my iTunes and suddenly ATV2 jumps back to the main screen and there's no info above "computers". The only work around I have is to quit iTunes on my iMac and restart it. This sometimes works, other times I must restart the ATV2. The ATV2 still shows it's main screen and everything except homesharing works.
Sometimes the problem will not happen for days and other times 5 times during one movie!.. As you can imagine, this is very frustrating and takes that gorgeous shine right of that little black box.
    Background:
I have a iMac OSX Lion 10.7.1 (latest updates) in my study and an Apple TV 2 (latest updates) plugged into the the Sony Bravia in the living room. The distance is circa 3.5 meters. My Netgear Wireless N router lives in a cupboard about half way between the two.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel.

  • It appears since my Windows PC McAfee AV subscription expired my PC's iTunes doesn't see my two Apple TV2's.  My computer has internet connection thru router and my ATV has internet connection thru same router.  My iPad can see the ATV but it can't see iT

My Windows PC iTunes doesn't see my two Apple TV2's (in the speaker button in lower right of iTunes), I believe this problem began when my PC's McAfee AV subscription expired.  My computer has internet connection thru router and my ATVs have internet connection thru same router so it's not a networking issue.  My iPad can see the ATVs but it can't see iTunes so the problem appears to be PC/iTunes related.  I turned the PC's firewall off but no joy.  I uninstalled the expired McAfee and still no joy.  Reboot = no joy.  Glass of scotch = no joy.  Need help!!

Wanted to add that I turned on Home Sharing w/the same account in iTunes and ATVs.  And I've successfully streamed music/photos to my ATVs for over a year.

  • I connected my apple tv2 to my dvi port and all I see is the apple logo

I connected my Apple TV2 to my dvi port on my HDTV and all I see is the apple logo on the screen. I keep pushing menu on the apple remote and i see a white led turn on and off but the apple logo continues to be the only thing on the screen. I expect to see a menu as the apple manual indicates should appear on the screen. What's it gonna take for the menu to appear and the product to operate as expected?

Use the search function here to look at DVI problems.  Even IF a HDMI --> DVI cable worked, there still won't be any sound.  Apple doesn't seem to want to make the ATV2 work with anything less than HDMI.  And it's pretty clear on their Apple store that the ONLY output is HDMI.  IF your HDTV has limited HDMI ports, you might want to thing about switching one of your other inputs.

  • Apple tv2 movie rental cache drops off and won't finish downloading (not related to internet connection)

I'm having an issue with my apple tv2 when renting movies.  This isn't with home-sharing but just renting movies only with the apple tv.  We've done this with 10 or so movies up until the issue so it has worked in the past.
What happens is that the movie downloads to a certain point and then the cache bar goes immediately to the end of the progress bar like the whole movie is downloaded.  The movie will play to a certain point, say the 9 minute mark, and then the picture just freezes with no more sound but the progress bar tracker continues along like it's still playing.  This has happened on multiple movies now.
We've spoken to support about this and tried a variety of troubleshooting ideas.  Unplugged, reset, restored, updated firmware, etc. with no luck.  The download will restart but freezes at the exact second that it did before while showing that the cached download is complete.  We've checked the internet connection with other devices and there's no connection problem at all.  Reset the router as well for good measure but no change.
I know we can try renting and downloading on the computer first and then sharing with the apple tv but I would prefer to know why it's not working on the apple tv itself.
    Any ideas would be great.
    Thanks

Yeah, that's what we thought too so we got a refund (by using the report a problem link and explaining what happened) and tried a different movie with the same result.  Used the link again after the second movie didn't work and went through pretty much the same troubleshooting steps with them.
Basically the only solution offered so far has been to take it to a licensed apple retailer for them to take a look.
