Apple TV2 & iTunes 10 video streaming

Hi all,
I have difficulties streaming video's from iTunes to my Apple TV2. Before i import them to iTunes they have a format of 1920x1080 from my video camera. After the Import they have 3413x1080. Any Idea's?

I finally got Apple TV showing on my iTunes left menu. (Updated Apple TV, rebooted it; went to settings on Apple TV, gave it the library I wanted it to link to; it gave me 5 digit code to enter on my computer which I did). So now ATV is there in the left menu of iTunes.
However, it is not appearing on my devices in the iTunes preference panel and (I guess consequently) it is not syncing. I brought ATV up separately, went to music settings (say), and had it play my library and shared libraries, which it will do I could do the same with movies etc.
However, it is not syncing as it was before i updated to iTunes 10. And iTunes sees it enough to list it on the left menu but not to list it in the preferences under devices. Any suggestions? -

  • Apple TV2 using bandwidth while streaming from iTunes

I am wondering if anyone has solved the elusive issue as to why my recently purchased Apple TV2 is using my ISP bandwidth when using home sharing from iTunes on my MB.  I am using an Airport Extreme (less than 2 years old) with the latest firmware, and this issue is still occurring.  I do not have iCloud, or iTunes Match enabled.  I have never had this issue when using my Airport Express running to my home stereo, but suddenly i've used 1.46G of bandwidth on Saturday night while streaming 3 hours of music using Apple TV2.
While I am a self admitted Apple junkie, this issue causes me great concern and not what I would expect from an Apple product.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Okay, try this simple test. Disconnect your modem/router from the internet (i.e. unplug the coax cable or phone line) and then see if you can access your music on the Apple TV (under the "Computers" menu). If the music and videos still work then that indicates that you aren't streaming that content using iCloud or iTunes Match.
However, if it doesn't work (can't access content) then that proves that you are indeed (somehow) streaming from the internet. In this case I'd check to make certain that ALL of the content you are trying to access is PHYSICALLY stored on you local Mac/PC and that the content is reachable via the iTunes app running on that same Mac/PC. If it is then next I'd do a factory restore on the Apple TV and then see what happens.

  • Video choppy in Apple TV2, iTunes, RealPlayer and QT - but perfect in VLC

I have some videos that are really choppy when I play then on iTunes on my iMac (OS X with the latest updates). I have rebooted and nothing else is running except iTunes and it is still choppy.
Tried RealPlayer and Quicktime (standalone) and its choppy with both of them.
Playing on my Apple TV is also choppy. Apple TV is on wired network.
All of my video files are on USB SATA drive connected to my iMac.
Note that I can bring up VLC on my iMac, navigate to the video file (mp4) and it plays flawlessly, off of the same USB SATA drive.
Video file is 720x398, H.246 AAC, color profile SD (6-1-6), total bit rate 1,628, frame rate 29.97.
Could be how it is encoded?

Yes, encoding could likely be the culprit. May have more luck posing in the quicktime section

  • HT202157 Will Apple add Amazon Prime Video Streaming to Apple TV

I am trying to find out if you can use Apple TV to stream Amazon Prime directly with out going through another device - ie Ipad Iphone - Computer - etc

    Hi Cameron,
It doesn't appear that Apple TV is currently supported for Amazon Prime streaming. From the Amazon site:

  • Cannot stream iPhone music to Apple TV2

I have an Apple TV2 and I cannot stream music to it from my iPhone 3GS via the iPod app. The ATV icon appears in the iPod app but nothing streams. The music plays again when reselecting the iPhone audio output. Movies from the iPod app work fine however with good video and audio streaming when streamed to ATV.
The ATV works fine with all other functions from my laptop and MacMini.

    Fixed it!!
Just unplugged the ATV2 and rebooted it.

  • BBC content on Apple TV2?

In the last-but-one update to Apple TV2, the BBC radio streams became available on the radio player.  For UK users, that was a plus, as otherwise we have very little UK-based content (no 'local' film rental, no TV streaming like iPlayer, 4OD etc.).
However, I have just updated my TV to OS 4.2.2. and although the channels still appear in the available radio stations list, I cannot access their content (I either get 'error loading' message or 'cannot access Internet Radio stations').  The commercial radio stations seem unaffected.
Does anyone have any idea as to whether there's an issue for Apple to connec to the BBC streams, or there is something in the update that now prevents this?  Are the BBC using dome DRM that is incompatible with Apple?
    Jonathan

No, I am asking about the Radio function built into the Apple TV2.  Before the recent update, you could access the BBC radio streams in the Radio player, but after the recent update, they still appear in the list of channels, but cannot be listened to.
To listen to BBC radio on your computer, try:
    www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/
This works fine for me on my various Macs at home and the office.

  • Apple TV2 audio won't work on my Samsung LN26a450?

    Hey folks,
Just bought an apple TV2 and the video shows up on the screen, but no audio.  I have it hooked up via HDMI to my Samsung LN26A450 which is a 720p HD LCD TV.  I also own a Sharp LC42D64U 1080p LCD TV and BOTH the video AND audio works on that tv.  I'm confused as to why it is not playing audio on my Samsung TV.  Anyone have any ideas, solutions, or similar problems??
I have a feeling if I bring it in to the apple store, it would work on their tvs, tell me there's nothing they can do and send me on my way.  I don't want to have to carry my Samsung in to get it to work either.  The HDMI is a brand new cable that is audio compatible.  It works on the Toshiba, not the Samsung, so I don't think it's an issue with the cable.
    Thanks!!

All HDMI cables are "audio compatible". The painfully obvious thing to check is the audio settings on the Samsung. Make sure the TV speakers aren't disabled, as they might be if you had been using a receiver. And if you have any other HDMI devices, see if they work with the Samsung.

i don't have any experience with DLNA TV's but i recently moved my iTunes library to a NAS. streaming content to airport express remote speakers and TV2 works great. however, i have all my gear hardwired to my time capsule (except the airport express) so i'm not sure how well streaming e.g. HD movies to TV over wifi works.
i have a Synology DiskStation 411j and am very happy with it.

  • How do I Play videos from external hard drive on Apple TV2?  Can I just move the iTunes Library to the External Hard Drive?

I have several HD videos stored on an external hard drive and would like to bring them into iTunes and play them via iTunes on my Apple TV2, but I am not sure how to go about it.  I don't want to store the movies on my iMac hard drive because it would eat up to much space...so do I just move the iTunes Library to the external hard drive?  And, if so...will the Apple TV2 find the iTunes Library on the external hard drive?  Thanks for any help anyone can suggest.

iTunes content on an external drive isn't a problem.
The simplest method is to just move your library to an external drive.
If you wanted to keep just movies on an external drive, that's a little more difficult. You'd need to put the movies where you want them to reside on the external drive and add drag and drop them onto iTunes while holding down the option key. Obviously any movies already in iTunes would need moving from their current location and removing from iTunes first.

  • Is it Possible to stream video off of my macbook pro to my apple tv2 but stream the audio to my airport express?

I know you can play music over multiple speakers but is it possible to play video on an apple tv and the audio that goes with that video on an airport express  at the same time? It would be nice to have some better sound then my tv speakers while watching movies.

i haven't used Airfoil (or Airfoil Video Player for that matter) to stream movies but it ought to work with TV - at least that's what the developers claim. and you are able to select multiple remote speakers so the audio can be sent to TV and AX simultaneously (mute TV to have sound via AX only).
the only problem is content from the iTS:
Because it is impossible to control playback of DRMed iTunes Store videos, they can't be played with Airfoil Video Player
anyways, there is a (albeit limited) trial version available so it won't hurt giving the app a go.

  • Streaming Audio/Video/Pictures to Apple TV2

I just updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 4.2.1 and have ordered an Apple TV2. Can or will the phone stream audio/video and pictures directly to the ATV2 or do I have to set the ATV2 up with my wifi router? I just downloaded the ATV2 manual, it doesn't say that the phone will stream directly to the ATV2. It does show how to connect with a wifi router though.
    Thanks,

Thanks for the info guys. If video and/or pictures are moved from the Camera Roll to the Photo app they should stream with AirPlay then, correct?
photos can be streamed whilst in the camera roll.
videos would need to be in the ipod section (ie like a movie or tv show).

  • Streaming movie rented in iTunes to Apple TV2

    Hi
I have a home network set up, and from our iMac stream movies, music etc to Apple TV2. Wireless router is Airport Extreme, with a Time Capsule acting as an extender. All hardware is running the latest version of software.   Sharing of movies and music, photos from the mac's library is working flawlessly, but I cannot get movies rented from iTunes store to stream to the Apple TV. In iTunes on the mac Rentals is a seperate folder in the library to movies I have copied to the iTunes library.  I cannot see the rented movie in my shared library on ATV2 or a section for rentals.  Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Then you did not rent the movie on the AppleTV.

  • Streaming photos through Apple TV2

Hi,I am able to get audio from Macbook through Apple TV but not photos. Whilst audio will go through and play, the ATV2 will not recognise photo or audio library even though both Macbook and AppleTV are addressed alike. I have selected photo albums and all appears ok -- any ideas??s .

All used to work well but not I cannot see any photos from iphoto on my Apple tv 2.  I have home sharing on in both devices and as well I have selected "photos to share" in my imac itunes; interestingly enough is only iphotos that would not show; if i select "aperture" as the source then those will appear.  Also of interest is that I can stream from itunes on my imac, music and videos but not photos!
I have restored my apple tv2 to try and solve the problem but it sound like maybe iphoto is the problem?

After applying update my apple tv2 will randomly go to a black screen that lasts for a few seconds. When it gets back to normal after a few seconds it acts like the video never stopped since its farther along in the timeline. This happens with all video content wether its from Netflix or streaming from my iTunes library

You might try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for a 30 seconds. If that doesn't help try using another HDMI cable.

  • Podcast videos don't play on Apple TV2

I have had this issue for awhile and can't find a solution so I am hoping that someone can give me some ideas on what is going on and how to fix this issue.
I have an Apple TV2 and a MBP running Lion. This issue also cropped up when I was running Snow Leopard. When I select podcast videos to play them the sound is fine but the video doesn't play. It stays stuck on the introductory frame. I can play it on my MBP but it doesn't play on my Apple TV. The latest episode was trying to play the extras that came with the movie, Rio. Could hear the sound just fine but the video didn't play. Very frustrating! And it appears to only be the video podcasts, not videos I shot with my camera nor movies or tv shows, just video podcasts. Any ideas anyone??? I am stumped. Thanks for the help, Judy

There is an easy fix for you.
    1) Select the video / podcast / etc that is not working properly for Apple TV
    2) In iTunes select Advanced -> Create iPad or Apple TV Version
iTunes will make an optimized copy ready to stream to your Apple TV.
