Apple TV2 purchases & Itunes

I have purchased TV shows directly from my apple tv (generation 2).  There seems to be some inconsistency in terms of how this content interacts with my Itunes account on my main computer hardrive.  Some shows seem to want to download into my Itunes account while others don't. All content is available to stream on Apple TV so this is not a problem but I prefer not to clog up my harddrive with any of this content.  What setting do I need to change either on my mac or my Apple TV (or both) in order to just have this content (purchased directly from Apple TV) show up only on Apple TV but not the main computer's Itunes account and harddrive?
Thanks!

Thanks,  B.   great help,  I didnt even think to look there.  i'm so used to my purchased music just showing up on all my devices that I didnt know what to do with video content. Thanks again.

  • Apple tv2 jams itunes

Hello, ever since I updated itunes to newest version it keeps jamming.
I would start my apple tv2 and click movie library, music, or whatever to join home sharing and apple tv2 would just sit there loading, I would have to come back to the computer and click on itunes and have to force quit it and restart itunes, this would go on for a few attempts and finally will work, but very frustrating.
Is anyone else having this problem?
Is there a way to fix this?
Or just wait for apple to come out with a fix?
I left windows because of problems like these, things just not working, hope apple isn't going in this direction.
Everything worked fine till I upgrade itunes about a month ago or so.
    thanks

This has been an issue for some since the days of AppleTV 1 - I see it less often with AppleTV 2, but still occasionally have to restart it or iTunes or both.
It's not necessarily straightforward and may be down to several factors not just the unit or itunes (eg network leases expiring, reassigned IP addreses), but both iTunes and AppleTV occasionally have problems re-establishing the connection after sleep - AppleTV seems to rememeber it was connected but then cannot access the library when it tries to refresh so no content appears or an error.
Does your computer sleep and take some time to wake during which it seems unresponsive to AppleTV?

  • Apple TV2 and iTunes Library

Hi.  I have just connected my iTV and when I try to shuffle songs from my iTunes Library album, a message appears stating there is no content.  I can see the song titles but they are greyed out.  I can play each song individually but this is a hassle having to keep going back to start the next song.  I copied a CD yesterday that I bought the other day and those songs can be shuffled.
    Cheers

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Check in iTunes that the skip when shuffling option is not checked on those tunes that won't play.

  • Itunes match and apple tv2

Everytime i want to playback music from apple tv2 via itunes match i have to login with id and password!
Why isi there no auto login?

    It should remember the credentials.
Have you unpowered and restarted the device?
May also be worth resetting the AppleTV settings and configuring from scratch.

  • Apple tv loses iTunes

I have a problem with my Apple TV2 and iTunes on my imac. Home sharing is on and I see my itunes on ATV2 but play a album and it cuts of after 3 tracks, play a movie and it cuts of after the film. Energy saver settings are set to never, the only way to get it started again is restart itunes. My iphone is fine play and choose ATV. does anybody know of a fix for this

    No devices near to interfere.
I have been happily renting on my ATV no problem before this. I have reset, etc., and Pineapple Express still says I'm not authorized to play on ATV. It's interesting that this is the first movie I rented through iTunes and then transferred to ATV.
    Any other ideas?
    Cheers

  • Cannot Access iTunes Store on Apple TV2 after purchase

    Hello,
I cannot access iTunes Store on apple TV2.  I purchased a movie, but when i got to watch it after it shows up as "Rented" it just sits at the screen "Accessing iTunes Store".  Never times, out or produces error message.  Internet is working fine, my account is fine.
If i launch an iTunes Store Trailer, it plays fine.  Just my rented material does not play.  Also, my Netflix account does the same thing from Apple TV2.  While accessing Netflix on my laptop there is no problem.  ***!

Having exactly the same problem.  I have completed a reset, rebooted all my equipment and completed a software update, but after I have purchased 2 movies, and have them appear as "rented", I cannot get them to load without waiting a hour.  Then, if I leave the movie, I have the same problem all over again.  I also cannot access the iTunes store.

  • How do I hide media in my iTunes library from Apple TV2?

I did a search for this topic and I was able to find the answer for the 1st gen Apple TV but no solution for Apple TV2.
For some of my movies in my iTunes library I have the main copy and an iPod version.  I want to hide the iPod version from the Apple TV2.  How do I accomplish this?  Unchecking the media simply shows it as gray in Apple TV2 lists.

Normally iTunes purchased movies/shows that are HD have SD and HD versions and only the HD one shows automatically on AppleTV 2.
Are these therefore HD/SD files you've created yourself ?  If so suspect they are not tagged correctly to differentiate them so they are sorted correctly.
There is a catalogue ID (cnID) tag which is set the same for both copies and allows only the HD copy to be automatically used on the HD capable device.  Do some Googling.

  • How manage to get my apple TV2 working with a nas like buffalo live with iTunes server?

i will probably buy a buffalo nas.
does this solution work with my atv2 as a mass storage?
can i stream films from the nas to my hdtv via teh atv2?
how manage to get my apple TV2 working with a nas like buffalo...

ATV2 should browse shared iTunes libraries in the same network.
Problem started when ATV only supports Apple home sharing.
I agree it would be nice if it worked with these NAS based iTunes servers but it doesn't, so if that's a necessity you would be better off looking at a media player from someone else and not purchasing DRM protected incompatible content from iTunes.
AppleTv 1 did not use home sharing and it didn't work with NAS itunes either.
We really need an Apple branded NAS that could home share, either that or they need to license the technology to 3rd parties, but frankly I can't see either happening.
Running a computer 24/7 is not ideal and one area where AppleTV1 was better in that you could store content on it's internal drive.

  • Apple TV2 using bandwidth while streaming from iTunes

I am wondering if anyone has solved the elusive issue as to why my recently purchased Apple TV2 is using my ISP bandwidth when using home sharing from iTunes on my MB.  I am using an Airport Extreme (less than 2 years old) with the latest firmware, and this issue is still occurring.  I do not have iCloud, or iTunes Match enabled.  I have never had this issue when using my Airport Express running to my home stereo, but suddenly i've used 1.46G of bandwidth on Saturday night while streaming 3 hours of music using Apple TV2.
While I am a self admitted Apple junkie, this issue causes me great concern and not what I would expect from an Apple product.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Okay, try this simple test. Disconnect your modem/router from the internet (i.e. unplug the coax cable or phone line) and then see if you can access your music on the Apple TV (under the "Computers" menu). If the music and videos still work then that indicates that you aren't streaming that content using iCloud or iTunes Match.
However, if it doesn't work (can't access content) then that proves that you are indeed (somehow) streaming from the internet. In this case I'd check to make certain that ALL of the content you are trying to access is PHYSICALLY stored on you local Mac/PC and that the content is reachable via the iTunes app running on that same Mac/PC. If it is then next I'd do a factory restore on the Apple TV and then see what happens.

  • Can not get shows "Purchased on Apple TV" in iTunes to show up on Apple TV

Hi - Ugg! To try and make this all work I deleted and re-added Apple TV to iTunes. I now can not get any of the shows that have been transferred to my laptop (which I did not want in the first place) to show up on the Apple TV.
All the shows that I bought now live in iTunes under "Purchased on Apple TV" but are not showing up on my Apple TV.
When I go to sync it wants to move the few shows I have left on my Apple TV over and I can't get it to not do this.
    Thanks

Control-click the movies in iTunes, reveal them in the Finder, move them over as you would any other file, and drag them into the open iTunes application window. Rented movies won't play if moved this way.

  • Windows Vista iTunes Home Share Not showing up on Apple tv2 through LAN

I have 2 new Apple TV's and I'm having the same problem on both, so I think it is an issue with my network or the Vista Laptop. I'm hoping for helpful suggestions here.
    My setup:
2 Apple TV2's connected with wifi
    D-Link DIR655 Router
MacbookPro, iPad, And iPhones all connected with wifi.
iTunes Home Sharing and Airplay all work fine with all of the above.
    The Problem:
I have an old Vista Laptop I want to use as an iTunes Server to store movies on and such, for use on the Apple TV's.
If I connect the laptop to the network with wifi the Apple tv's find the Vista iTunes Homeshare just fine. But when I connect the laptop via Lan Wire to the router the Apple tv's don't seem to find the laptop. This is a problem because i want to just connect it wired and tuck the laptop away in a closet, so it is not a waste of wifi spectrum, but no joy so far. I have checked firewalls and things like that but no luck. Any ideas out there?

I was also having this problem but in my case it was not caused by the D Link router. My problem was caused by mcafee firewall. To get itunes sharing to work I needed to add an itunes firewall/port rule to enable TCP=3689 UDP=5353 and enable this for ALL PCs. Setting this for PCs in Home/Work networks did not work.

  • HT201272 How do I download purchased movies from Apple TV to iTunes program on computer.

How do I download purchased movies from Apple TV to iTunes program on computer.

You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.
