Apple TV2 Software Update

Just updated (Sunday, 3/13) the software on my Apple TV 2nd Gen. Is anyone else having problems with their Apple Infrared Remote. Mine no long works. I can use the Apple Remote program on my iPhone fine, but the infrared remote does not work at all. The white light on the front of the Apple TV just flashed off and on continuously. I have rebooted the Apple TV twice since upgrading, but with no success. This remote worked perfectly before the software update. Any ideas? Thanks.

I have 2 Apple TV's one works fine on 4.1.1 software. The other I updated and now any of my video files that have 6 channels of audio, play no sound. And All the movie categories are appearing all wrong. In comparison the other apple tv still plays the audio fine and the categories appear normal.
Is anyone having this issue, if your not streaming video files from you peronal library with multi channel audio, you might not know you have a problem. My simple 2 channel audio files play fine.

  • Will Apple issue software updates to 10.7.4 Lion ?

I have an early 2008 MacBook running 10.7.4 Lion.  4.5 years old and running perfectly.  It is too old to run Mountain Lion, so am am concerned that Apple won't produce software updates to Lion.
    1. Based on past experience, will Apple issue software updates?
    2. If the answer to 1 is negative, then I am very surprised at the lack of outcry on this and other forums and from the bloggers about this situation, where faithful users of Macs are effectively being forced to buy a new one to get a supported OS.  Am I missing something here?

Yes, every OSX ever released in the past has reached a point of no further update support. Security update carry on a little longer, but eventually no further support is given. Snow Leopard is in that catagorie at present. Lion may well have further updates, only Apple knows that. It would not surprise to see a 10.7.5 update but then maybe not. The 12 monthly OSX releases that Apple seems to be leaning towards may well change the pattern of support we have come to know in the past. Lion may be supported for some time in regards to security updates, but then again it may be on it's last legs. Time will tell.
    Cheers

That is the link for the same topic. The fix for this issue is to perform a system factory restore in "settings"...scroll down until you see restore & choose factory system restore...The Apple TV will restore itself with all icons in the menu & will be running the latest software 5.1.
I did this yesterday & it worked perfectly.
I think the issue is happening from apple TV's which have received older updates that are not compatible with the latest update or it is just a glitch that happens...

  • HT201413 Has anyone ever been able to contact the apple ipod software update server?

  • Cannot delete old apple device software update file from trash

I restored a new iPad from an old one and now there is an .ipsw file with the is08 8.0.2 update and I cannot delete it even tried command secure delete and option secure delete. The file is grayed out and says it is in use by another application. Please help me get rid of this.
Oh and not sure this is related but I cannot sync my iPad now, it says error 1723.
    Thanks.

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Software Update entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Ever since the update to OS 5 software I haven't been able to sign in with the new apple id or sign in with the former apple id (software update made me change the id and password). I've also lost ability to update apps on computer. ARGH

I can't sign into itunes on my ipad (original) since the software update. Genius can't help-says its Itunes support I need, but they don't help either (tell me to reset password) which I've done several times. Can't update apps on my home computer either. Update made me change Apple id, so now it thinks I have two ids, but won't let me sign in for old one. I pad won't work at all. Frustrated beyond belief and get NO HELP from apple.
if they want us to buy their product they better start supporting them. Oh yeah, everything worked FINE before the update.
    Anyone have ideas?

No. The problem is that when you changed Apple IDs you did not update your Apple ID to reflect the change, so your phone is still associated with the old ID. You will need to un-associate it. The process is the same as what you would do if you sold the phone. See: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5661

  • Problem with most recent apple combo software update

So about a month ago I posted here about a problem I'd been having for a while that others seemed to have as well, with safari crashing and for me dashboard as well. Looking at my crash report, I was advised that most likely this was a javascript error and I did an archive install of Leopard and this did fix the problem.
However, of course the Leopard from my install disk was a little old, so today when I did all the updates again, lo and behold, my problem is back. Looking at the date that the last combo update pack came out (mid June) I'm pretty sure this is when my problem started, and now its back again because I know that's one of the updates that I just did on my computer.
So my question is, has anyone else experienced problems with this recent update, and secondly, what can I do? Should I re- archive/install and not do the update, and then just wait until the next combo update? I did the updates in order to get my itunes back in order, but I don't know if it would be detrimental to my other programs to not do this last combo update... And is there anyway I can go into my system and fix this while keeping up the update? Its just strange to me that no one else I know is having this problem, even though they keep up-to-date on all the software updates.
    Any help appreciated!

I get the error when I try…downloading it from the Support pages
That's very strange. Can you download anything from http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ ?
Launch Keychain Access, select Keychain First Aid from its left-hand menu, enter your password, select verify, and click on start. If that shows any problems, then select repair. If not, select X509Anchors, click on the top item, and then click the down arrow key until you find a bad/invalid certificate.

  • I just installed the latest Apple TV software update today. I can still play music from my iPhone 4 to th eATV but purchased movies don't seem to start playing now - or else the buffering time is huge compared with the previous software version.  Any fix

I installed the latest software update on our Apple TV - this allows us to access VIMEO.  However, although we can still play music from an iPhone 4 we can no longer play purchased tv shows - unless the buffering process has been extended to be glacially slow!  It just shows it is loading but under the previous software release a show would start in a minute or two, nothing is happening afer 4 or 5 minutes with this one.

Thank you BDAua. This is what I typed and the reply from Terminal
    java -version

Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.45-b01-451, mixed mode)
BTW - this application does NOT show up in the Applications folder and I consider that a bit odd.
I also  tried typing Java for my computer to search for and this is what I got under

  • Ipad stuck at apple during software update

my iPad is stuck at apple logo during software update … what to do i have important date stored in it

If the reset doesn't work, you will have to force iPad into Recovery Mode.
    1. Turn off iPad
    2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
    3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
    4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
    5. Release Home button.
    ON COMPUTER
    6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
    7. Select "Restore iPad"...
    Note:
    1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
    2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.
    3. Repeat the process if necessary.

  • Airport Extreme Update via Apple's Software Update

Apple just released an AE(n) update via Software Update.
Maybe this will fix some of these problems!

Okay, dummy me actually loaded the update twice. On iMac #1 I ran the "update s/w" from the upper left apple icon and had no updates available. Thinking security update 2007-002 was for the base station also I downloaded and installed. On iMac #2 I also ran "update s/w" and noticed 3 updates needed (iTunes, something else, and security update 2007-002). Led me to think, yikes, on the first machine I must've "double banged" the security update on it. In the aforementioned MS world, that can lead to problems, what doesn't. Any thoughts on impact of loading this (or any) update twice on a Mac?
Thanks (and you can stop laughing now too )

  • Revert to apple for software updates

    Hello,
I set a Leopard Macbook to look at our Tiger server for updates not realizing that Tiger does not pull down Leopard specific updates. I set this with Software Update Enabler, and have tried to restore defaults but it still attempts to pull from our server instead. Is there a way to revert back to the Apple Servers for this?
    Thanks,
    JerLaw

You need to remove all traces of the third party app "Software Update Enabler". If this information is not contained in any documentation, you will need to contact the developer.
Always beware of any third party software that does not have enough documentation to allow you to remove it.

  • HT1338 Apple's software update doesn't find any updates?

Since updating to OS 10.8.3 the software update does not seem to work anymore. Recently iTunes came up with a message saying that a new version was available but clicking on the update option it re-directed to the App Store and a notification appeared stating that no updates were available. Doesn't make sense to me, especially if I search online on the Apple website I find plenty updates!
Is this a known glitch or am I doing something wrong here? This problem has occured on both my iMac and MacBook Pro. Bye the way, an update to 10.8.4 hasn't changed a thing.

    Maybe this?
Software Update fails to find updates unless logged in as an Administrator

  • Why Does Apple Store Software Updates in the Windows 7 'Roam' folder?

I noticed that the Software Updates are being stored in the 'Roam' folder for the Windows 7 user profile. Any comments on why that may be?  And is there any way to change it so that these updates live in the 'local' folder, to prevent long login/logoff times?

  • Software Update never finds Apple/OS software updates

    Running Mountain Lion 10.8.2.
I read about OS updates online, and I get system notifications for various software updates (iPhoto, iMovie, 3rd party applications, etc).  However, when the software update utility runs, it never actually finds any updates.  The only way I've been able to update the OS is through manual OS patch downloads.
Just minutes ago, iPhoto told me there was a new update.  I click the download update button, the Mac App Store update panel opens, and after a few moments says "No updates available," like always.  Why is software update so broken?

Go to system preferences > Software Update and make sure update options are all allowed. Then try again to run software update. Also check your network settings. Do you use proxy...? Are you using an Admin user account?
test running software update on a different user account.
