Apple TV2 starts up iTunes on iMac

On occassion when I wake Apple TV with the remote, iTunes on my iMac will start playing. This has been happening both in Lion & ML.
I've searched through System, iTunes Preferences and Apple TV Settings and don't see anything that would cause it.

If you don't want to use a remote with your computer the easiest thing to do is just to turn the IR off. (System Preferences/Security/General)
If you still want to use your computer remote then you must pair your computers remote with the computer AND the Apple TV remote with the Apple TV.
To pair a remote with a device hold down the menu and FF buttons together for six seconds or until you see a chain icon on screen (best take the computer into another room, or turn it off, when you do this)

Apple should start offering iTunes or App-store cards in India !

It seems that Apple has stopped accepting debit card as a payment option in India. So what happens to the existing users in India who does not have a credit card ? The idea of a free apple id without any payment card attached does not make sense as it limits customer`s freedom to purchase music or paid apps. Apple does not offer iTunes card or App-store cards in India and neither accepts debit card as a payment option then what is the way around ? If we feel safe to attach our debit cards as a payment option then it should not have a problem or Apple should start offering iTunes card in India. People does not put all their money in one single debit card which they attach as a payment option for relaxation so security risk should not be a concern, cheers !

Multiple apple tvs to one iTunes and iMac

I installed 10 apple tvs in my office all linked to 1 iMac.
I just found out that I can only access the iTunes on only 5 of the apple tvs.
Is there a way to access all ten from one iMac using 2 iTunes accounts at the same time?. and how canister de authorize some of the apple tvs from the iTunes account ?

Apple tv's always sync through itunes. you can either transfer content to a computer that you would have at each residence or sync content in Saskatoon and then move the apple tv to each residence. you could not add to the connect if you usually buy through itunes, but if you buy content on the apple tv itself then it should pose no problem, however if you buy content on the apple tv it will only be on that individual apple tv.

Apple TV rentals and iTunes on iMac

I have rented movies on Apple TV. I want to download to watch on iMac but the rentals do not show up on my iTunes on iMac. How do I 'see' these rentals in iTunes on iMac?

Movies rented on Apple TV can only be viewed on Apple TV. If you want to move between devices then you need to rent via computer.
If you download a rented movie on your computer: You can transfer it to a device such as your Apple TV (1st generation), iPhone, iPad, or iPod if it’s a standard-definition film (movies in HD can only be watched on your computer, iPad, iPhone 4 or later, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV). Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only exist on one device at a time.
If you download a rented movie on your iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV: It is not transferable to any other device or computer.

I get an "unknown error" message using Apple ID password on iTunes on iMac

I am unable to sign in to iTunes to download iPhone apps or purchase from iTunes Store. No problem signing in until today. I think I signed in during the preceding 5 days. But today, each time I typed my Apple ID password I got a red "unknown error," with NO error number. I changed my password but no luck. Problem persisted. I contacted Apple Support which walked me through many steps but, again, to no avail. I am able to use Apple ID with new password on my iPhone 5 and on my iMac for the App Store and other programs, but NOT to sign in to iTunes. I noticed a separate posting by someone describing these same symptoms for iTunes for Windows. So this may not be an Mac issue. Anyone have some thoughts?! THANKS.

I am having the same issues. My apple ID works from everywhere else (icloud, appstore, iphone, ipad), just does not work in iTunes.

How do I Play videos from external hard drive on Apple TV2? Can I just move the iTunes Library to the External Hard Drive?

I have several HD videos stored on an external hard drive and would like to bring them into iTunes and play them via iTunes on my Apple TV2, but I am not sure how to go about it. I don't want to store the movies on my iMac hard drive because it would eat up to much space...so do I just move the iTunes Library to the external hard drive? And, if so...will the Apple TV2 find the iTunes Library on the external hard drive? Thanks for any help anyone can suggest.

iTunes content on an external drive isn't a problem.
The simplest method is to just move your library to an external drive.
If you wanted to keep just movies on an external drive, that's a little more difficult. You'd need to put the movies where you want them to reside on the external drive and add drag and drop them onto iTunes while holding down the option key. Obviously any movies already in iTunes would need moving from their current location and removing from iTunes first.

How do I hide media in my iTunes library from Apple TV2?

I did a search for this topic and I was able to find the answer for the 1st gen Apple TV but no solution for Apple TV2.
For some of my movies in my iTunes library I have the main copy and an iPod version. I want to hide the iPod version from the Apple TV2. How do I accomplish this? Unchecking the media simply shows it as gray in Apple TV2 lists.

Normally iTunes purchased movies/shows that are HD have SD and HD versions and only the HD one shows automatically on AppleTV 2.
Are these therefore HD/SD files you've created yourself ? If so suspect they are not tagged correctly to differentiate them so they are sorted correctly.
There is a catalogue ID (cnID) tag which is set the same for both copies and allows only the HD copy to be automatically used on the HD capable device. Do some Googling.

Lost connection to itunes using Apple TV2

My issue is that my Apple TV2 often loses it's connection to my iTunes on the iMac while using homesharing. I can be watching something from my iTunes and suddenly ATV2 jumps back to the main screen and there's no info above "computers". The only work around I have is to quit iTunes on my iMac and restart it. This sometimes works, other times I must restart the ATV2. The ATV2 still shows it's main screen and everything except homesharing works.
Sometimes the problem will not happen for days and other times 5 times during one movie!.. As you can imagine, this is very frustrating and takes that gorgeous shine right of that little black box.

I have a iMac OSX Lion 10.7.1 (latest updates) in my study and an Apple TV 2 (latest updates) plugged into the the Sony Bravia in the living room. The distance is circa 3.5 meters. My Netgear Wireless N router lives in a cupboard about half way between the two.

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel.

How manage to get my apple TV2 working with a nas like buffalo live with iTunes server?

does this solution work with my atv2 as a mass storage?

Apple tv2 jams itunes

Hello, ever since I updated itunes to newest version it keeps jamming.

I left windows because of problems like these, things just not working, hope apple isn't going in this direction.
Everything worked fine till I upgrade itunes about a month ago or so.

This has been an issue for some since the days of AppleTV 1 - I see it less often with AppleTV 2, but still occasionally have to restart it or iTunes or both.
It's not necessarily straightforward and may be down to several factors not just the unit or itunes (eg network leases expiring, reassigned IP addreses), but both iTunes and AppleTV occasionally have problems re-establishing the connection after sleep - AppleTV seems to rememeber it was connected but then cannot access the library when it tries to refresh so no content appears or an error.
Does your computer sleep and take some time to wake during which it seems unresponsive to AppleTV?

Itunes jams with Apple TV2

It should remember the credentials.
Have you unpowered and restarted the device?
May also be worth resetting the AppleTV settings and configuring from scratch.

Streaming movie rented in iTunes to Apple TV2

Hi
I have a home network set up, and from our iMac stream movies, music etc to Apple TV2. Wireless router is Airport Extreme, with a Time Capsule acting as an extender. All hardware is running the latest version of software. Sharing of movies and music, photos from the mac's library is working flawlessly, but I cannot get movies rented from iTunes store to stream to the Apple TV. In iTunes on the mac Rentals is a seperate folder in the library to movies I have copied to the iTunes library. I cannot see the rented movie in my shared library on ATV2 or a section for rentals. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

When you launch the iTunes Application, down in the lower right hand corner, you see an icon and "Speakers". Select the Apple TV device and iTunes will then use the Apple TV as an external speaker.
You can also access your iTunes music and movies from the Apple TV menu. With your iTunes Application open on your computer, select "Computers" from the Apple TV Menu.
You'll also need to turn ON "Home Sharing" in the iTunes Application. You can find that setting in the "Advanced" menu option in iTunes.

There is no problem about using one ID for iTunes, iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match, and another for iCloud and its email and syncing facilities. This way you can all use the same iTunes account but have separate emails and calendars etc.
